Omg I'm so bad at typing ...I think I should go to sleep now 🙈

Seahawk80 · 14/03/2017 06:06

imaginary I think not is right. My work are so inflexible and will only ever do the legal minimum and they said I can carry holiday over as a period of maternity leave is preventing me from taking it - so it must be the law.

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 07:59

I had a load of hooha at my last employers. They wouldn't let me take my maternity leave as I'd not "accrued it" (though my contract stated I only accrued in the first year and not subsequent years of employment). Then I never had a risk assessment. I got quite savvy on the maternity law because they went out of their way to screw me. I think if they allow you take it prior to the maternity leave they can ask you to take it and then they must let you carry over a certain percentage to the next year. Also you'll be accruing holiday during maternity so you can request that after you maternity is due to finish (in 2018).

As for SMP I panicked so badly about money but you really do just make it work. As long as you can pay your mortgage/rent bills and groceries you'll be ok Smile I really struggled with being reliant on my husband as I've had a job since I was 13.

Child benefit is really helpful for using on nappies and groups for baby. There's always more than enough there for them. And babies don't actually cost a lot initially.

There are tonnes of free groups too at the children's centres. We have stay and plays, bf support groups, new mum groups and you get free tea and coffee as well. Plus the weather will be good so lots of walks etc

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 08:03

Oops. Typed too quickly. They wouldn't let me take my annual leave or plan my maternity leave (apparently you have to accrue that 😒🤦🏻‍♀️)

danigrace · 14/03/2017 08:17

Hi ladies Smile
Firstly, so sorry to have 'ditched' you all, I was here for the first few weeks then disappeared. With it taking such a long time to get pg and health issues etc. and being told it would be 50/50 until 2nd trimester I just felt I needed to back off from talking about things so much, but now at 21 weeks I'm feeling much happier and more confident! It's lovely to recognise some names here and see so many of you doing so well Star

I'm self employed but asked for my mat b1 regardless last week so that I can get my virgin trains mummy pass! I get on a busy train for work once a week and often stand crammed in a doorway and this beauty should hopefully get me a seat in 1st class Smile

Great to hear about the free baby sure start classes - I'll have to look into those!

I started with a baaad pelvis/lower back from only 7 weeks (apparently due to a previous coccyx injury) and the preg classes I've been doing have certainly helped sooo much. I do preggo yoga on a mon, aquanatal on a tue, & preggo pilates on a thur. Are you doing/tried any classes and how are they?

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 08:22

Hi @danigrace I'm a Dani too 😁

I've done some aquanatal which I love. It's great to take the pressure off your joints. Though getting out the pool you feel like you weigh a ton 🙊

I'm dying to try yoga and Pilates but the classes are these huge blocks at dd1's bedtime 😣

Mawita · 14/03/2017 08:23

Hi all!

Most of the big ticket items are hand me downs from my Sil. She kept everything in case we had children! So I am super grateful for her hoarding ways. :) if for some reason they don't work then we will look for alternatives. My best friend spent a ton of money buying a state of the art buggy and her baby hated it as it was too warm. She ended up buying a £15 from Argos that her baby loved!

I am off to a baby moon too, just Spain wish I had thought of the Maldives.... but we are planing to travel the second six months of the maternity so will make up for it then.

I love all the nursery pics and ideas, currently in the planning stages but it has all been put off until after the babymoon.

I have a few artistic friends whom I have enlisted for the decor. Will be paying them in homemade food.

My mum is knitting, she has made the most lovely blanket and baby shoes!

On Sunday my mum and I read through her letters to me when I was a baby. They were so cute, my parents really had nothing when I was born, and I was premature. One Xmas letter she writes they just went to sleep as they had no money for presents, they cooked a meal and the 3 of us went to sleep. It made me remember and realise how fortunate we are. So second hand bargain hunting all the way no need to break the bank as long as you have a loving space for that baby nothing else matters, life changes and my dad swears that babies come with a cheque under their arms. Grin

danigrace · 14/03/2017 08:38

Hi glitterdani Grin I love how being in the pool feels too, I try and hop in the pool 2 min before class starts to have gentle swim bc it feels so amazing haha. I did some filming for aptaclub's active for 2 last week and spent a minimum of 6 hours in the pool in split up bits across 2 days and still didn't get sick if it (went to my aquanatal class in the evening of one of the filming days lol).
Do you have someone who could help with bedtime? I think atm our yoga online has 1st timers in but pilates atm has a few mummies with other babies (one on her 4th!) who are sometimes [often] 5-15 mins late and nobody ever bats an eyelid, they just slip in and join in where we're up to!

That's such a lovely attitude Mawita, & how lovely about the letters!! I agree totally about all the 'stuff', we've also been lucky to get lots of practically new hand-me-downs from family and friends, and haven't done too badly at collecting freebies and entering baby stuff competitions too lol. It will definitely help us save miney to be able to spend more time with baby and "do" more stuff. Enjoy your holiday!!

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 08:42

@danigrace oh I could live in the pool if given the chance. I was a big swimmer when I was a kid and i love it.

Sadly not. Apart from the fact dh is useless at it 😂 I'm usually so knackered by that point the thought of driving to a class is exhausting. I do get Wednesdays free a p

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 08:42

Oops! A lot of the time so might see if there's a day class I could take.

danigrace · 14/03/2017 08:42

*yoga class (not sure where the word 'online' came from... prob clicked the wrong predictive guess text word, will teach me to proof read!!)

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 08:45

@danigrace lol don't worry about it. I end up having to do about 78 posts because I press post or don't check them. I'm a writer by trade as well 😂👌🏼🙊

danigrace · 14/03/2017 08:46

@glitterglitters that would be nice, I hope there's something available in your area at a time that suits. It must be soo much harder with a little one already. (also, not necessarily via a class, but maybe now is a good time for your dh to train his confidence/usefulness with one DC before you might need him to have 2 sometimes! Eek, it's all so scary/exciting)

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 09:02

@danigrace it's not a bad shout. He is good with her but she gets a bit mummified in the evenings. He's been left with her once overnight and nobody died 😁 I can be a bit of a control freak 🙊

Seahawk80 · 14/03/2017 09:04

Just found out my sister is pregnant and due 3.5 months after me so might not have as many hand me downs as she might need them. My other sister just had a baby so while it will be nice that there will only be 8 months between the 3 of them it will be a tight turnaround!

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 09:09

Aww that's lovely news @Seahawk80 ❤❤❤ all those cousins! My dc's cousins are either in the North East (we're as far south as you can get) or in their 20s!

Seahawk80 · 14/03/2017 09:59

Thanks @glitterglitters - it's exciting! They already have 3 girls between them and the new baby is a boy so would be nice if all these babies were boys, they can have their own gang! My sister hasn't told me yet but my mum let it slip as she was asking me me about changing the dates of her holiday!

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 10:26

Awww that'd be awesome! Even if there's just the one boy all the girls will end up clucking over him like mother hens. Haha bless your mum. My sister guessed before I'd even seen her. I turned up to meet her and she just blurted "Your pregnant" 😂 families are funny

LuciBee231015 · 14/03/2017 10:37

Does anyone know what we have to do to claim child allowance and when you need to do it?

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 10:51

@LuciBee231015 you'll need their birth certificate after you register their birth and it takes about 14 days. They'll back date it as well but only up to 12 weeks. You can dl a form from their website x

rhodes2015 · 14/03/2017 11:43

www.gov.uk/child-benefit/how-to-claim

I printed the form off here luci

LuciBee231015 · 14/03/2017 12:40

Oh thank you!

Seahawk80 · 14/03/2017 13:54

Ha ha @glitterglitters - I had my suspicions when she sort of withdrew her offer of a car seat!

Had a really interesting chat with my mum, was talking about my best friend who is TTC and it's been over a year, I always want to be sensitive but also not go on about the pregnancy. My mum was saying it's the same for her now with some of her friends who are desperate for grandchildren and their children don't want kids or haven't had them. She feels quite guilty having 3 already and now getting another 3 this year. I'd never really thought of that.

Still she's really happy and she deserves it, my sister was very ill as a child and I was a horrible teenager so I'm glad we're make g it up to her now. My stepdad has 7 grandchildren so they are going to be overrun!

glitterglitters · 14/03/2017 13:58

@Seahawk80 I know what you mean. I've got a few friends who have fertility issues. Most of the time it's fine but there's one couple who have suddenly got a bit of a vendetta against us. It's an incredibly sad and tricky situation and is causing all sorts of problems 😣

ButterflyFree · 14/03/2017 14:37

@danigrace Welcome! I started prenatal Pilates three times a week from 14 weeks onwards and I love it. Great way to feel you are activating your muscles without going too overboard. I'm also swimming a lot as we have a lovely pool at our building but no aquanatal classes specifically.

@Mawita The Maldives is amazing for a babymoon - writing to you from there right now as we're in the middle of a little rainstorm. We had never been here before but have fallen in love with it, and DH (who was reticent about a beach/island holiday) has now said we are 'definitely' coming back next year for a family holiday with the baby. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in Spain too, and make the most of your plans for maternity leave.

@Seahawk80 How funny about finding out that your sister is pregnant at the same time - congratulations to her and it'll be fun having 3 new additions to the family in quick succession. As it happens, my only first cousin is @mcnics, who is 4 months older than me, and we are both due our first babies in July - we even broke the news to our grandparents on the exact same day, without knowing it!! How crazy is that. My brother-in-law's wife is also due her first baby in July too, so we will be having a sudden burst of baby activity on both sides of the family this summer.
