My last day is 16th June too! 😬 ...I'm due on 23rd june! Hopefully I'm not early as I'll be at work! 🙈

The movements I feel are amazing now, absolutely massive and belly moves so much with them, I love it!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 13/03/2017 16:37

Another one with a last date of 16th July (hopefully!), due 30th July so I'm hoping this gives me enough time for a bit of a rest before baby makes an appearance. Although I'll go earlier if I'm struggling with work as it gets closer.

Anybody else still having periods of fatigue? I'm getting really tired in the post lunch slump again and wanting to go to sleep, I'm a tiny bit concerned it could be gestational diabetes as I'm so tired after eating.

Seahawk80 · 13/03/2017 16:45

Glad to help not! My last day at work is 16th June too! I'm due 2nd July. I was going to finish a week later but my work is 9 hour days with not much chance to leave early and I thought I'd be knackered!

DrewOB0 · 13/03/2017 16:52

I'm due 29th and finishing on the 10th as I can face a standing up commute in the heat of July.

LuciBee231015 · 13/03/2017 16:53

I'm doing a handover with one of the girls here that is covering my maternity 3 weeks before I leave, so I won't be doing a lot to be honest, plus I'm only a 20 min drive from home.

mcnics · 13/03/2017 16:59

We're still in the process of looking for my maternity cover, and maternity cover for my assistant too as we're both pregnant at the same time!!

Getting a little stressful trying to find both, and then I will need to train up my replacement and oversee the training of my assistant's cover too. with only 56 working days, well 55 really not counting today, left that's a bit scary!

How is everyone else managing their maternity cover? How are your employers behaving? Would be interesting to know how many of you are on the SMP and who get additional pay from their employers as I am tempted to make a case to my MD about the benefits of paying staff on maternity (makes it easier to return to work after, doesn't put so much strain on the mum etc). Any tips?

DrewOB0 · 13/03/2017 17:32

SMP here. One of my previous employer did 52 weeks full pay. If I had known at the time how rare that is!
Cover is done by my colleagues and juniors.

Notyetthere · 13/03/2017 17:41

Wow there is a lot of us on 16th June. I wanted to work later to have more maternity leave but because we doing SPL(6 months for dh), dh really wanted to have xmas week at home with baby as he has had to work (retail) almost every xmas/boxing day for the last 7yrs so I brought my leave forward by a week. I am looking forward to some me time in that time. If baby doesn't arrive earlier.

I am lucky that my company gives 6 months full pay. I am also the main bread winner so I plan to take maternity leave for the 1st 6 months, then dh's parental leave starts just before Xmas. I will also tag all my leftover annual leave to the end of mat leave, giving me 7 months of full pay, so that dh and I have atleast 4wks overlap at home together to handover (hate this word-sounds like work). I am assuming that dh will have 3 months stat pay and 3 months none.

Spindelina · 13/03/2017 18:29

NHS here, so 8 weeks full pay, then 18 weeks of (what works out on my salary as) 2/3 ish pay, then 13 weeks SMP only.

My last day will be 7th July, but my work is really flexible about taking annual leave at no notice so that's an option. But hoping I can get away with taking very little - the plan is to go back on 1/2/18, but use my annual leave then so I only work two days a week until Easter 2018.

natienka · 13/03/2017 18:29

My company does 5 months full pay, and they offer phased return (first 8 weeks after mat leave, I work 3 days a week and am paid in full) which is awesome for an easy way to get back.

I'm lost in calculations already, have lots of AL left from this year still, so I've put my mat leave as 16th July (my due date) but taking 3 weeks AL before so effectively 23rd June will be my last day. I'm selling 5 days, putting 5 days for next year, and then still have a few spare days, so it might be even 16th June if I don't manage to use up some other ones ;)

My mat cover is almost sorted - half of my projects go to my manager, and the other half to a freelancer who's almost contracted; so should even get some handover time which is luxurious as normally my company wakes up too late!

FINALLY not feeling sick or sleeping for 10h a day... feeling a surge of energy since Sat, did so much at home which is strange as hubs is away! Maybe it made me realise I have to be self sufficient ;)

wildone81 · 13/03/2017 18:35

I'm due 11th July, but looks like I'll be having a section the week before, so plan to finish up on 9th June and use two weeks leave before starting maternity. Did email HR today though to find out if I can change date and work on for another week if I'm not too shattered by then..

I get 27 weeks full pay, then 12 SMP, so I'll tack any leave on to the end of the SMP and Go back April time next year, hopefully to do 3 days a week

glitterglitters · 13/03/2017 18:46

I'm working right up until I pop. I'm going to put in for my maternity allowance from my due date though, which is the 3rd July.

Being self employed means I'm working from home so no commute and that I can start scaling back now. Thankfully I've just had a huge amount of work on so I've got a nice buffer saved up.

I can use ten Keep In Touch days without affecting my MA so I'm going to do one day a month work for my biggest client and that means I'll be able to bump up my MA. I'll actually end up better off than when I was working full time which is brilliant 😙 but definitely had to put the work in to be in this position. Means I don't have to worry about any money related stuff until at least Easter next year which is fab.

glitterglitters · 13/03/2017 18:47

When I say till I pop I mean till my dd and better off than when I was full time was in my old job which I hated. lol I wasn't very clear with that 🙊

Flappergirl86 · 13/03/2017 19:06

mynameisntlinda that's so sweet of you! Thank you but we're all kitted out with most things now thanks to the generosity of other people and lots of bargain hunting!

My maternity pay is pretty dire! 6 weeks at 90% then statutory for the rest of it. Tight buggers. I'm in a union but I think it might be a bit late in the game for pushing for a better maternity package...

And I'm having a girl! Xx

rhodes2015 · 13/03/2017 19:37

I'm another finishing 16 June! (Due 4th july)
I maybe could have done longer.... I live on the same stretch of road as my work place, literally a 5 min drive, and If I carry on driving another 3 mins on the same road there is the maternity block of our hospital. So no long drives. I also just sit down all day at computer. But I'm set on 16 June now.
I get 22wks full pay/ 17weeks smp/ then will tag 5weeks holiday on the end.

I was thinking about kit days and would like to use mine in the 3 months up to my return but does anyone know if you get paid for kit days on top of your smp?

Kitsandkids · 13/03/2017 19:49

My mum said, back in the day, women used to have to finish work when they were 6 months pregnant. That seems so early now! Mind, in those days they weren't allowed to go back to most jobs.

I don't know whether I'll be entitled to any sort of maternity pay? I'm a self employed foster carer and have had the same kids for almost 3 years. Obviously I'm not going to turf them out now so I'll still be getting an allowance for them so does that mean I won't get any maternity pay? I'm not bothered really I would just like to know for sure and my fostering officer doesn't know!

bluebird1235 · 13/03/2017 20:00

Another one self employed so my commute is about 5 metres! But I've told my clients that I have to see in person to plan for me to be unavailable from late may as twins are so often early (and I'm going to be as big as a house and completely immobile!!)

Kits - that's an interesting question and possibly worth asking on another thread somewhere as I'm sure someone will have been in the same position as you before. 2"when I looked at SMP the big thing seemed to be that you were giving up work in order to be eligible. You get the keeping in touch days (10 I think?) but obviously your situation is rather different!

glitterglitters · 13/03/2017 20:04

@rhodes2015 yes you do get paid for them but it's at the discretion of you and your employers. :)

CatRash · 13/03/2017 20:34

I'm another one in the crappy SMP-only boat Sad I'm the main earner too and DH is self employed so I'm the only one who'll get any paid time off.

At present I'm planning on taking a year off. I'm not sure how we'll afford or if i will actually be able to have an entire year off. It will mean hard saving now, making cut backs where possible (I changed our internet provider at the weekend and got it practically half price) and just making it work because we have too.

Imaginarymenagerie · 13/03/2017 20:38

Starting Maternity leave 20th June (due 3rd July) but I've got 3 weeks holiday that I have to use up before that (apparently not allowed to carry over to 2018?) so will be finishing up at end of May. Wish I could take it at the end and have more time home with baby.

I get 12 weeks full pay, then SMP plus approx 20% of my usual salary for 27 weeks, then 20% salary for remaining 13 weeks. (But reckon that won't be enough to cover bills etc so I will have to go back earlier).

Seems like we have a whole range here in terms of what people are getting. I have family in Sweden and they are horrified that we don't get more time on full pay. They get a whole year I think, plus 3 months full pay that can only be used by the father.

LuciBee231015 · 13/03/2017 21:17

I get 6 weeks at 90% pay and then Amp for 7 months. I plan to take that and add a months holiday on the end. I'm the bread winner too so will be a struggle.

Notyetthere · 13/03/2017 21:35

Imaginary I think you might be able to tag your annual leave at the end. I remember a discussion on another thread where somebody mentioned that it is protected by law somehow. Our annual leave yr runs Jan - Dec, so I wonder how those due late Jan/Feb would be able to take 2 days before due date.

OP posts:
Imaginarymenagerie · 13/03/2017 21:52

Thank you for telling me Not, that sounds a bit fairer, I was a bit Hmmwhen she told me but it didn't occur to me to double check. I'm going to have another read of the maternity policy at work tomorrow. I'm the first pregnant employee my manager has ever had so I think she might be guessing on a lot of things, or relying on a quick scan through of the policy. My maternity risk assessment was only done a few weeks ago when I printed the form and put it on her desk.

That said, talking with DH, I might keep it as it is, he's got a week off in early June so will be nice to have a week off together before baby arrives. But I would like to know what my options actually are, rather than my manager's version!! Smile

mynameisntLinda · 13/03/2017 22:19

Lmao sea not a good place for me to typical, yes I meant week lol. Last time I got £154 a week because they owed me tax or something. That was nice lol
not that would be handy if they can do that. My mw isn't at a doctors, I see her at the sure start centre. I'll be 27 and a half weeks at my next appointment (if I've worked it our right), can't see a rush in needing the matb1 before then so I'm not making a special trip.

Which reminds me I need a fit to fly note from my gp..any idea how long before hand I can request it? Not found any helpful info on Google.

I only get smp too. Due date 16th July but mat leave starting on the 17th July because math leave has to start on a Monday. If I pop before then they can either move my mate leave and roll my holidays over or use my hols and keep mat leave the same. Gonna work till I pop coz I want more time off the other end. I finished 2 weeks before my due date last time using holidays and then went 8 days over due and was completely bored shitless in those 3 weeks. Would rather have been at work (makes me sound like I love my job doesn't it hahaha)
