OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

SGK- Hope things go well and they find out why you're having pain.

BIG RELIEF today as I had my nuchal scan and finally got to see the little one. Everything looked fine . My due date was changed to 1 week earlier, so am 13+4 -due Nov 9. Wasn't too sure about my dates (which is how I guess I got into this situation in the first place ), so feel relieved to have had the scan.

Good luck to those still waiting!

RGPargy · 08/05/2007 16:33

nykate - Glad to hear things are ok with your scan! I have my scan next Monday and i just cannot wait!! I'll be so relieved to find out that everything is ok with the baby (fingers crossed). I also want to know the sex too, but my DP doesn't so i'll have to get the sonographer to whisper in my ear lol.

Sparkly - good luck with your scan! Hope they find out what's giving you grief.

GermanGal - It's never too early to think about names! We've decided that if we have a boy, it'll be called Charlie (officially Charles tho) and if it's a girl, we quite like the name Crystal.

Glimmer · 08/05/2007 18:39

Hi. My bloods came back and have reduced my risk for Downs and Edwards syndrome. I am very happy.
How do you get on with morning sickness?
Mine was better from week 10.0 to 11.5 but since then I am sicker than I ever was. I am now continuously nauseated and it doesn't go away if I eat or not. I read that the placenta takes on the hormone production now -- are they different and I react to the new hormones?

Glimmer · 08/05/2007 18:41

nykate - congratulations to your scan -- you must be relieved.

SparklyGothKat -- good luck for your scan. I hope you get some resolution,

Everybody else who is still awaiting scans. Good luck to you. It's a demanding time.

Glimmer · 08/05/2007 18:44

Oh, about adjustment of due dates. It's one thing when you do not know. It's another if you do. I know exactly the earliest I could have conceived but they insist it was 5 days earlier. If they are right its a proof of immaculate conception IYKWIM. But no reasononing on my side helps. They keep insisting I am 5 days ahead. Whatever, LO wil be 5 days late ....

aikigypsy · 08/05/2007 19:15

Glimmer -- I have a bit of that problem, too. They keep dating my pregnancy 3-4 days ahead of what it could possibly be. I discussed it with the doctor who did the 11.5 week scan, and he basically said that it's all plus or minus five (or so) days, anyway. I figure it's good to have one that's a little big for gestational age, since small for age is a bit worrying at this stage, right?

choudru · 09/05/2007 08:32

Glimmer how is the nausea now? I must admit after proclaiming to the world (well you lot anyway!) that my MS was over the other week, I went on to have 2-3 really sick days. That was a few days ago and since then I have not had it.

Although I have developed a rotton cold so DH has taken DS off to his gran's so I can rest. Only the 2nd night I have ever spent away from DS in his 2 years. Adapted to it pretty well actually - if he were here he'd be trying to bash the keyboard he he.

About finding out sex of baby - I will find out even though DH doesn't want to. I would love a girl - have thought about the name Amani if it is a girl. Means 'hopes/aspirations' in Arabic.

Scary fact though - just read on t'internet that father's of sons are 75% less likely to leave!!!!!!!!!!!

Germangal - I only have a boy so can't compare but he is about 10x more hyper than any girl of his age I know. Runs around CONSTANTLY and has to be physically active pretty much all day. Is very draining.

However he gives me tons of spontaneous kisses and knows how to charm the pants off people - very typical male. Gets away with murder with a cheeky smile and a kiss

Sparkly - good luck with your scan. Hope you're not worrying too much.

Good luck to everyone else with scans as well, in a couple of weeks we'll all have our 3 month scans out of the way.

No twins on the group so far?!

apeainapod · 09/05/2007 10:45

Hi to all - glad to hear all scans are coming through positively. I'm having another one next week, it will be good to see how little ne is growing etc.

I have always had 'early movers' (DS1 was 15 weeks) but this one is ridiculous! Yesterday she was squishing around so much even DH could feel. It started last Saturday so 13+4. Very happy though I love that feeling.

Sparkly - Good Luck with the scan - however I think it's contagious, via the internet!!! I could NOT sleep last night, I was in so much agony and this mornign too - ouch - BUT then guess what?????????? Yep same bloody thing as last time. Damn!!

Germangal - what to expect with little boys - an update.

Yesterday it was DH's birthday - how nice. After having a lovely morning preparing a birthday lunch of prawn sandwiches, cheese and ham (no pickle)s/w and tuna and cucumber s/w, sausages and crisps and a Bob the Builder cake, I spent a wonderful morning with friends, having a Sushi lesson and also a green tea cake lesson (yum by the way). I picked the kids up from school - hooray Dady's home for lunch. DS2 gets naked - no change there then. He plays the fool as always, laughing joking - we have a lovely time. Daddy goes back to work, DS1 is happy, DD is being a very terrible two, and DS2 is playing in DD's cot - naked! He tries to get out, screams, arrrrghhhhhh blood everywhere............. he has RIPPED HIS WILLY 1.5 CMS AWAY FROM HIS BODY!!!!!!!!

Bllody bloody bloody hell. Not the right country to have this happen. My driver had taken my car out and was 45 minutes away, DH was 30 minutes away, so I called a friend to collect us to take us to the hospital - which is not quite what we're used to IYKWIM. It was horrible. We had no idea who was who and they made us wait to fill out forms before he was seen to - which actually we refused to do.. my friend then called an emergency service run by a German who was super quick and came and helped to sort us out. Anyway 2 hours later with butterfly stitches and a huge dressing and a very sorry little boy we were at home. DH cancelled his birthday dinner out - so we sat eating leftovers

Anyway the moral of the story is - NEVER let your DS in a cot naked, just in case......

Also names - yes we have for boys, such a shame we're having a girl - we have NO IDEA!!!!!

purplepants · 09/05/2007 11:48

hi all

apeainapod - at DS's willy!!!!!!! I often wonder how mine doesn't yank his off - but have taken a mental note in CAPITAL LETTERS!! lol. Hope it heals ok for him - it must be soo uncomfortable, poor thing.

choudru - I've had a cold on & off for about 6 weeks now (think it's the same one that keeps mutating as it's passed between me & DS)
aikigypsy - it seems to be the norm for the scans to not quite match the dates. my DH was out of the country so I'm totally sure when I concieved but LO is measuring a week bigger. As you said, it can only be a good sign of a healthy baby
Glimmer - you must be so relieved now you have the full results of your tests. I wimped out this time as we knew we wouldn't do anything about the results and if they indicated anything and it would just mean a very stressful pg. Don't know about the hormones/sickness thing. Mine seemed to clear around the time I developed a taste for ginger ale (sooooo many empty bottles to recycle )
SparklyGothKat - hope your scan went well. Have been thinking of you.

We're not going to find out what flavour this LO is unless it's anything like DS, who was thrusting his crotch at the screen so much it was impossible not to see (boys eh!) We've no names either. Last time was a nightmare as we couldn't agree on any we liked until about 2 weeks before, and that was just deciding on one name! Agreeing a boy's and girl's name is going to be interesting I'm sure.

GermanGal · 09/05/2007 12:38

apeainthepod....OMG.... I don't know what to say!!!!
Just about when I was beginning to think that boys are charming little angels
Poor little baby though.... is he ok???? He must have been in so much pain

RGPargy · 09/05/2007 13:06

apeainapod - OOUUUCCHHH!!! Poor little mite!! Hope he's ok very soon!!

As regards to knowing the sex of the baby - do you think it's wrong to want to know the sex so that you can mentally prepare? E.G. I'm secretly hoping for a boy (although a healthy baby of any sex is fine) but I would like to know the sex of the baby so that if it turns out i am having a girl, i can mentally prepare myself for that. I think it's the fear of the unknown really as I already have DS so boys are all i've known!

GermanGal · 09/05/2007 13:17

RGPargy.... for me it was the other way around....secretly hoping for a girl, but now having a boy (LOTS of fear of the unknown!!!!) .... feeling much better though since I know.... I think NOT knowing is like having twice the fear of the unknown if that makes any sense?

SparklyGothKat · 09/05/2007 13:20

Hi all, scan went well, saw baby jumping and stretching about. Still laying on its back, lazy one. They couldn't see anything that would have caused the pain, the cyst has disappeared, and my kidneys look ok. She said it might have be stretching pain

RGPargy · 09/05/2007 13:48

GermanGal - glad i'm not the only one then!! (Boys are GREAT!!).

SGC - Glad everything was ok with your scan! Damn those stretching pains!! lol! Pleased for you

purplepants · 09/05/2007 14:29

SparklyGothKat - that's brilliant news Stretching pains though! - what a PITA

RGPargy - I was convinced I was having a boy with my first and was really shocked and more than a bit gutted when DD popped out (not for long though) I remember asking if we could have another baby whilst I was being stitched up . I wouldn't change her for the world though. She's been an absolute angel.
As a result, I was a bit worried when we found out DS was DS (I even shrieked "OMG I have a son!" when he came out - it obviously hadn't sunk in properly) I don't mind which flavour we have now. I'm just really excited and can't wait to meet him/her

choudru · 09/05/2007 15:03

SGK - what a relief! Sounds like LO is chilling out in there!

I want to find out sex of baby for same reasons as you two, Germangal and RGBargy.

I really want a girl and don't want baby's birth to be marred by niggling disappointment if it is a boy. But if I find out in advance it's a boy I can, like you say, mentally prepare myself and within a few days I will have already gotten used to the idea of having 2 boys.

But at the end of the day I'll be grateful if we all have healthy babies.

Don't have fear of the unknown though. I see having a girl as a wonderful new adventure. But if it's a boy, it will kind of feel like 'more of the same'. Mind you, babies vary so much I'm sure it will be a new adventure anyway.

If it is a boy, at least I will save a fortune on clothes since I have so many left over from DS and 2 young nephews!

choudru · 09/05/2007 15:04

Brainwave!

If those wanting boys get girls and vice versa we could always do swapsies!

GermanGal · 09/05/2007 15:17

Choudru - BRILLIANT idea!!!!
Do you think our DHs would mind???? (Mine desperately wanted a boy.... errrmmmm)....

I agree on the saving money bit though.... even though this is my first, I still think boys will be much cheaper (please tell me I'm right!!) .... girls want skirts, dresses, trousers, shorts, mini skirt, T-Shirts, blouses, jumpers, jewellry, etc etc etc .... boys just want jeans and trainers and a bicycle - I guess?

RGPargy · 09/05/2007 15:58

GermanGal - hahaha!! Yes that's pretty much it for boys' needs! Give them a toy truck and a bike and they're well happy!

Girls however, wont be happy until they've got a 3 carat diamond ring on their finger!

GermanGal · 09/05/2007 16:16

V true
AND you'll have to pay for their wedding!

RGPargy · 09/05/2007 16:56

Fat chance lol

littleoldme · 09/05/2007 16:58

Hi all.Mind if I join in I know it's a bit late but I figured the more the merrier. I'm due Nov 25th with no.1 . I'm feeling v rough and rather excited. Scan next week.

RGPargy · 09/05/2007 17:03

Hello littleoldme and welcome!

You are due 2 days before me - i'm due on 27th November. I also have a scan next week (Monday). Let us know how it goes!

Where abouts are you based?

purplepants · 09/05/2007 17:03

welcome, and congratulations There are quite a few other first timers on the thread. It's a lovely adventure isn't it.

choudru · 09/05/2007 17:07

Hi littleoldme - welcome. Bet you can't wait till the scan. Hopefully you'll be feeling less rough soon!

Germangal - boys are cheaper - it's a fact that has been researched apparently. Can see why - boys clothes can be cute sometimes but mainly are just functional. How many variations of dungarees can you get?!

About our DHs minding if we swap - maybe they won't notice?
