hi, i think this is the thread my sister sparklygothkat posts on. i belive she is currently in hospital due to a pain in her side and they are looking at possible appendicitus?

Pheebe · 04/05/2007 20:28

Misdee, thanks so much for letting us know. I'm sure I speak for everyone, please give our love we'll be thinking of her and hope she's back posting again soon

purplepants · 05/05/2007 08:45

hi there everyone. Finally got our pc working again so have been trying to catch up with all the news (I've namechanged by the way - I got bored with being iris )

I had my scan yesterday - sooooooooo lovely - and all seems to be of so far. I'm still in awe every time at how a whole, virtually fully formed human being can grow in such a short time. We got some fab piccies too. LO was covering it's ears and DS kept pointing and saying wowo (ie dog) at the screen, it was so funny.

looks like I got back just in time for the big update too! Here goes...

purplepants - 13+6, due 5 Nov, DD 18yrs, DS 15mths. In Wilts.

RGPargy - good to see another big age gap you'll love it (though I did find it abit of a challenge to manage teenage needs with a new baby for a while!!) Our local hospital did a second timers refresher Antenatal session along with the hospital visit. I found it quite useful because things have changes quite a bit - especially policy wise.

SparklyGothKat - Sending lots of postive vibes to you honey - get well soon!

SparklyGothKat · 05/05/2007 10:59

hi all!! I ended up in hospital till 2am!! I'm tired and still in pain now. I was taken to gyne. ward where they made me wait along with 5 other women, to see a doctor. When I was finally seen at 1:30am, they said I could either be admitted and given pain relief or go home with painkillers, I choose to come home. They are booking a scan on tuesday for me to check the cyst or to rule out any other problems. They dont think its apendicitis (sp??)

Pheebe · 05/05/2007 15:24

Hi Sparkly
Glad you're home and its not apendiwosit anyway. Take it easy

Glimmer · 06/05/2007 19:37

Hi Sparkly,
so sorry to hear about your pain. Sounds quite daramatic, I hope you feel better? I know that fibroids (quite common) can be very painful. I hope you'll get chekec out throughly on Tuesday and are not too miserable until then.

apeainapod · 07/05/2007 10:26

Sparkly - Good luck for tomorrow. I hope you find out the problem without too much intrusion.

To make you laugh - when I was 11 wks PG with DS1 I had the most excrutiating pain adn also ended up, rather dramatically, in hospital. Awful I thought - my worst nightmare, foreign country operations etc. But no - I had ummmmmmm excess wind!!! 10 hours it bloody well took to get out. How embarassing.

RGPargy · 07/05/2007 11:49

Purplepants - I am really looking forward to when this LO comes along as i know my DS1 will enjoy participating etc.

i'll have to check to see whether my hospital does refresher courses - there really is no need for me to go along to a first timer's course!

SparklyGothKat · 07/05/2007 12:16

lol at peainapod! Pian is still there, and I can't do a lot as it makes it worse. I just keep cuddling up on the sofa with my kids.

apeainapod · 07/05/2007 12:53

Sparkly - sorry for the pain. On the other hand good excuse for lying on the sofa avec les enfants!! [smile

GermanGal · 07/05/2007 14:48

Hi everyone, hope all is well
I have a probably very stupid question.... but I'm going to ask it anyway .... I have just had a very detailed scan at 14 weeks and the doctor is 100% convinced that it is a little boy!!!! Of course I'm over the moon that he seems fit and healthy so far and that the first scary 3 months are over, but since I'm from a "girls only" family and have no experience with little boys whatsoever, I'm all of a sudden a little worried and scared.... all you mummies out there.... can you tell me what it'll be like???? Sorry if that sounds stupid.... I didn't even wish for a girl, I just want the baby to be healthy, but all of a sudden I feel concerned....is that normal????

Pheebe · 07/05/2007 15:53

Of course thats normal german, its the unknown and thats what makes it wonderful and exciting

Have to say my ds has been an absolute pleasure. He's 2+8 now and compared to his girl cousins (and he has lots) has been a little angel. Eats well, sleeps well, very loving, very accepting nature and very caring. Thats not to say he's always an angel, he has his devilment too and has had DH and I tearing our hair out just like any normal child. But our experience has been that compared to girls, boys are much more placid and accepting. Although I'm sure I'll be throughly contradicted

We're hoping for a girl this time, won't find out for a few more weeks, although a boy will be equally fab

GermanGal · 07/05/2007 16:14

Thanks Pheebe - that really helps!!!! Your DS sounds wonderful....
I know DH has been a little devil when he was a child, maybe that's why I'm scared
But I'm glad you say it's normal to have the "fear of the unknown"
Anyway.... seeing all these cute little boy clothes in the stores just makes me want to go shopping NOW!!!! Bit early at 14 weeks I guess....????

apeainapod · 07/05/2007 16:30

GermanGal, Congratulations!

I have 2 boys and 1.5 girls!! I have to say that when my boys were babies they were both very very good - eating sleeping and the rest just as the book said. Having said that DS1 was very difficult to get to sleep but that also could be something to do with the fact that we never put him down!!! . He was so cuddly....

DS2 - we learned our lesson and DH did the whole control crying thing quite early and now they are both really good at bedtime (aged 3 adn 4). DD - brilliant at sleeping from 3 weeks, and even now at 20 months she knows that when she sees her Grobag that's it for the night.

The boys are a lot more laid back generally although we have the age thing going on right now so actually they are being little buggers. They are both very happy to entertain themselves catching bugs, getting dirty etc and being little boys and always have been. DD already has tantrums choosing clothes, sharing with her toys/babies etc..and already we can see her at the age of 15!

I come from a family of girls too and it was quite daunting when the mdiwife said 'it's a boy', the whole willy thing etc but when you see him for the first time all of your fears disappear. That relationship with your son is magical, and it will be the strongest relationship with a male that you will have. Obviosuly DH relationship is ENTIRELY different.

Also in the Winter boys are so much easier to dress!!!!!!!

That is MY experience and I am sure that a lot of other Mum's will have their own opinion.

Good Luck

nykate · 07/05/2007 16:42

Sparkly- good luck tomorrow!

Thanks for the thoughts on antenatal classes. I may see if there's a refresher course. It would maybe be helpful to brush up on the labor part so I know what to expect here. The nappies I'm WELL practiced at .

Vomited for the first time in days today , but still hopefull that I won't be sick for as long as I was in previous pgs because it hasn't been as intense this time around (she says over and over to will it to be true). Yeah to those who are over it!

GermanGal · 07/05/2007 16:45

apeainthepod - thanks so much for sharing your experiences!! The more stories I'm hearing, the better I'm feeling about everything....I'm actually getting really excited now
Also, we are about to move to a new place at the river .... so I can just see him playing with boats, cycling, skateboarding, etc.... I just might have to pack up my old Barbies again

LucyK1978 · 07/05/2007 17:15

German Gal - wow sounds like your 14 week scan was really detailed, if they could tell it was a boy so early - I didn't think they could tell until 16-17 weeks. Fantastic!

I know how you feel about it being a boy though, I also come from a large family of girls and have somehow always imagined myself having a daughter and all things pink. That's not to say a boy wouldn't be wonderful too (there are very few girls in DH family) as you say as long as it's healthy. But somehow I htink I'd need to get used to the idea of a boy and have lots of silly 'is that normal' questions to ask DH!! Hey ho, guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

Incidentally, my mum has decided that she would rather not know the sex of the baby until it arrives, to which DH said 'tough, we want to know and we're not keeping secrets about it'. Oops!

RGPargy · 07/05/2007 20:28

Boys are really easy to look after, from my experience!

When my DS was young, i also looked after my niece for a few months, who was 10 weeks younger than my DS. However she tended to be much more "winey" than my DS! I dont know if that's the generalisation with girls or not, or whether that was just my experience with my particularly winey niece lol.

So erm..... boys win hands down!

SparklyGothKat · 07/05/2007 20:30

I want a boy this time, DS is the easiest child I have, he is laidback, and just gets on with life, the 2 dds however, fight, scream, winge, and moan all day...

GermanGal · 08/05/2007 08:21

Morning all
LucyK - I was extremely surprised about the detailed scan too - it was amazing though. No idea what it's called, but the doctor basically coloured the organs of the baby, i.e. he was able to see if the heart is functioning ("red" blood going in, "blue" blood going out, that kind of thing).... checked the stomach, etc etc... and yes, he then finally discovered something else as well

So amazing to read about all your experiences with DSs .... my mum just assumed it would be a girl and was a bit shocked when I told her it'll be a boy.... but all of a sudden even she has changed her mind....

ROLL ON NOVEMBER!!!!

Has anyone thought about names yet???? Or is that too early????

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2007 13:01

HAve just phoned the hospital, apparently they have been trying to phone me anyway have a scan tomorrow morning at 9:30am!! They said 9:10am at first but I have a school run to do and can't make that time. Hopefully they will find out what is causing the pain.
