New thread before the old one explodes!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Piffle · 04/03/2007 12:47

Doubt it, I have the longest and most exciting pre labours known.
Maybe at 38 wks (this friday coming) I'll start contemplating

I know baby is wk or 2 up on dates size wise, I had dd at 38 wks so who knows

I know one thing though
I am bloody ready!

Had a good sleep last night, some folks say that when they used clary sage they slept like logs, app, some "narcotic effect"
But we bliss - only woke once!!!! Got 4 hrs straight sleep!

Piffle · 04/03/2007 12:48

foxy do a search on clary sage on thread titles and have a read, tis what I did and it's quite interesting.

sazzybee · 04/03/2007 13:07

wow piffle - 4 hours straight sleep - once I would have laughed at how rubbish that was and now I am . Sounds like you're ready to go too.
Still cramping pretty much continually here. I'm assuming I'll be able to tell the difference between cramps and contractions? Or is that a very dim question? I'm not going to tell my mum or she'll be up on the next train fussing over me and she could do with a bit of a rest before labour actually starts.
Must be a bit frustrating for you foxy so hope it all kicks off again soon.
Blimey - this thread's all going to get very quiet pretty soon isn't it?

Piffle · 04/03/2007 13:17

lol sazzy I thought that I'd know
With ds (my first) I sat at home with these vaguely regular period cramps and contractions, doing a cross word with my mum thinking, oh this can't be it, it's not nearly painful enough... Had no show, no waters nothing.
Then I started shaking and threw up, mum realised it was serious and called the m/w (we had independent m/w in NZ)
she came by in 5 mins, told me to get in the car and we raced across town (10 mins) to natural birth unit.
Started pushing in the elevator
Arrived at 3.22
Had him at 3.34

Not to scare you or anything honey

rosylonginglily · 04/03/2007 13:23

Piffle you are scaring me never mind Sazzy Sazzy maybe you should time how long they last and how long between contractions/cramps for a bit?????

sazzybee · 04/03/2007 13:31

Okay I'm officially scared now piffle! I'll time them then.
My mum will be very upset if it all kicks off and she's not here but I don't want her up here if it all tails off, given that I'm not booked in for the induction until Thursday evening. It's going to take her about 2 hours to get here. Hmmm ...

rosylonginglily · 04/03/2007 14:05

Sazzy you could post a thread in childbirth. It's really hard to know about labour especially the first time as everyone is different.

sazzybee · 04/03/2007 14:15

Good idea rosy although I think I've scared them off by getting out my running watch. They've entirely stopped now.
If they kick off again, I will do. I'm going to make a cake instead now

Mossie · 04/03/2007 14:39

Gracious! Is everyone going off having their baby then?

I had settled in my head that at the end of the month it could well just be Kitty & me, but a few days in? That's ridiculous!

Foxy I really hope you get your birth with the disco balls and lava lamps! Still even if not at least you know that one way or the other it won't be long before little Monti makes his appearance!!

Muppet / Sazzy good luck sounds like you two are on the way too!

Booboo sorry you're having to wait... kwym about dog walking - I think mine're getting fed up of going on a "stroll" rather than a "walk"!

Have just had a nice sleep for an hour but couldn't stay in bed any longer because I needed the loo so much! I feel like I'm constantly on that bloody loo!

bethoo · 04/03/2007 14:53

Hi everyone and congrats to those who have since had their new arrivals. i had my baby on 26 Feb as induced. the labour was 2.5 hours long and after 6 pushes in ten minutes he was out. he weighed 7 lbs and 15 ounces and was 51.5cm in length. he is absolutley gorgeous if i do say so myself.
dp is suddenly the perfect partner! he absolutley dotes on lo.
curently at my parents house and already my mother has been in tears!
well i am off to try and sneak in a nap though i cant drag myself away from him long enough to do so!
do we go to a new thread once we have our babies?

Booboobedoo · 04/03/2007 14:55

CONGRATULATIONS Bethoo! 10 minute 2nd stage - wow.

I think Callie started a March Post-natal thread.

rosylonginglily · 04/03/2007 15:12

Bethoo brilliant news! Congratulations!!We were all wondering how you were. Have you a name yet?

morocco · 04/03/2007 15:18

wow - congrats bethoo - that sounds a pretty fast labour!! glad it all went so smoothly for you

sazzybee · 04/03/2007 15:21

Hurrah bethoo - congratulations!
What a fab sounding labour too. Did you have an epidural or just tough it out?
Really glad your DP has come through too - great news.
I am not having my baby - nothing, nada, zip going on now. Phew!

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 04/03/2007 16:00

{smile] Many, many congrats Bethoo, well done

evenhope · 04/03/2007 17:21

congratulations Bethoo and magpie, and fingers crossed for all of you who seem to be on the move. I've been trying to kneel with bum in the air but a) it hurts and b) DH keeps taking really unflattering photos of me!

DH worrying that the ECV procedure will damage/ stress the baby. I need to ring MW tomorrow to see what she says.

bethoo · 04/03/2007 18:41

His name is Hayden. I had half dosage of pethidin as the midwives did not think i was in labour and then for the pushes i had gas and air. my sister filmed the end with me and the baby and boy i look and sound stoned!
it was all so fast as they used the gel at 9 in the morning and i started getting cramps at 12 but them idwives said it was tightenings and the baby getting into position. then at about 3 i had an internal and my cervix had not dilated but because i was in pain they said not to put the gel anymore gel in, 10 minutes after they went my waters broke then i vomited! lovely, something else they forget to tell you about in the books! by 4 i was in agony but they said very unlikely i had dilated but my friend persisted and they put me in my own room. at about 5 they said we will discuss pain relief at 5.30. i said i was in bloody agony and so they gave me half dosage of pethidin to take the edge off. it made me chatty! anyhoo by 5.30 i was demanding an epidural and they decided to give me an internal saying i would probably be dilated 3 cm! turned out i was fuly and the babies head was already at the cervix so i was told to push. had a few swigs of gas and pushed regardless of where i was in my contractions! so that was my labour and it surprised us all! when he came out it was hard to believe he was inside me 10 minutes earlier as so alert with his little eyes flitting all over the faces!
hope i have not put any other first timers off!

muppetisacat · 04/03/2007 18:42

Still here ladies GAAARRRGGGHHH

Nothing but extreme bh's for me - enough to take breath away but doesn't exactly have me reaching for the tens machine. What I am reaching for are handtowels to save the carpet as sanitary pads are just not up to the job!

In my heart i think i will be joining Foxy on the old induction tomorrow morning - ho hum... there's a lot to be said for a drip and an epidural!

Whatever happens it will be a wonderful feeling to get this lo out safe and sound and come back on here with some good news

Congrats to bethoo - so glad it all worked out well for you... here's to your dp getting his act together for your little one!

Will post later ladies if anything should develop... believe i'm having curry tonight! (no saveloy though...shhh...my parents are in the house )

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 04/03/2007 19:02

Well done bethoo, how are you feeling now?

Muppet, good luck at least you know it won't be long whatever happens.

Sorry I'm not more chatty today, bit tired and grumpy.

bethoo · 04/03/2007 19:17

Kitty - mixed feelings really, still euphoric though i know i should be having a nap since my dad is currently playing his role of grandaddy! at the mo Hayden is hungriest at night as he can go for long periods without demanding food! he fed for three hours last night from 9 til midnight and every time i put him in his mosey he screamed so he ended up in bed with me! i know babies should not sleep in the bed but i was exhausted. ust cant stop staring at him and believing he is mine!
dp calls to check that we are both ok and i am resting properly! currently surviving on three hours a night! starting to catch up on me though i love it.

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 04/03/2007 19:58

You sound like you're doing reall well bethoo. For what it's worth I sleep with mine when they are tiny babies. I find we both get a better night's sleep and it is so much easier to feed them when you're both snuggled up in bed together. If you think about it they have been used to being with you all the time and want to stay snuggled up to you. . Hey at least you can bend over now

bethoo · 04/03/2007 20:05

kitty - did you not worry about rolling onto them? or them getting too hot? i think he did not settle as first night at parents house and his mosey is low down so could not see me. it was cute though waking up with his little head next to me

foxabout2pop · 04/03/2007 20:22

Bethoo - congratulations on your beautiful boy!!! IKWYM abnout keeping staring at him - did that with both of mine. I slept with thme in the bed too, I just gave them their own blanket and I don't think you're likely to squish them unless you've been on the booze or drugs. Its normal for baby animals to want to sleep with their Mums and means you can get a better sleep.

Sazzy/muppet - I've had no bloody contractions all day. I think the difference between false and real is that the real ones really take your breath away and build up momentum, whereas the others just carry on and don't get any longer/closer together.

Ho hum - I think I'm going to cancel the induction tomorrow and hold out for the birthing centre - troubls is I am not a naturally patient person!

Hope everyone else is OK - specially those cuddling their newborns

TheBlonde · 04/03/2007 20:45

Muppet - hope all goes well with your induction tomorrow (if you don't go naturally before then)

Bethoo - Many congrats on your new arrival. I didn't cosleep but as Foxy & Kitty have said it is perfectly normal, natural and safe. I just like my space!!

I am hoping our bed will be free of toddler tonight, DS is in his full size bed for the first time and hopefully will stay there for the duration

Hope everyone has had a good weekend

AmieR · 04/03/2007 21:19
