Just got a letter from the hospital saying I have a high MCV - do I need to panic?

LouLou030783 · 09/03/2017 07:48

Frilly is that all they have said I'd contact could be a b12 issue or something else that's hugely unhelpful just sending a letter

Frillyhorseyknickers · 09/03/2017 08:55

It says your bloods have shown you have high MCV which will require you to have a check up six weeks after your baby is born, we will notify your GP.

I am going in anyway today so will ask as I have no idea what the implications are, and I refuse to google symptoms as it doesn't help my anxious disposition!

LouLou030783 · 09/03/2017 09:37

You would think they would call to discuss things like that, letters like that would have me freaked out, I think sometimes they like to see how anxious they can make u

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 09/03/2017 10:28

Been absent for a few days - sorry. Having DD during the day and working evenings means time gets away from me.
Had booking in appointment on Monday at 11+2. Was there for over an hr going over stuff. Have got to be referred to a consultant at antenatal clinic, and a dietician because my booking in weight is too high. And have to go to my gp to get a prescription for higher dose folic acid as my bmi is higher than 30. I didn't have that with DD but things change. Looking at what you guys have said about booking all of your appointments makes me realise how efficient it is in my area. You normally see the same midwife throughout pregnancy including booking in, and they book your next appointment when you're with them. Midwife appointments are all in the local sure start centres and are nothing to do with gp.
Feeling a bit better at the moment though I had a massive headache last night.
Have 12 week scan on Tuesday morning - I really can't wait. So many people are guessing at work I just want to get it out there!!!

LouLou030783 · 09/03/2017 10:44

I can't wait for scan however I'll be keeping my pregnancy under wraps until I'm back at work (I'm on maternity leave) 🙈🙈🙈

That's odd about seeing a dietician re ur bmi they don't do that here x

Tilly2017 · 09/03/2017 13:25

Been for 12 week scan. Baby ok wriggling round sucking fingers/thumb. Good size and growing well but too far gone for tests so now need to have a quad test done... booked for April.

What even is that, frilly??
dont I can relate to the funky Asian smells!!! I can't set foot in the market here! Not looking forward to durian season Confused

Travelgeek · 09/03/2017 18:23

I'm 14 weeks tomorrow so why oh why am I still throwing up. I shouldn't complain, I know some get HG. But every other day and usually late afternoon I am full on vomiting. Not nauseous as much unless I don't eat regularly. I thought this would have subsided by now :(

LouLou030783 · 09/03/2017 19:18

Travelgeek it's murder when it lasts longer than u expect I think with my now 8 month old I was sick until 24 weeks 😭😭😭😭

Carolina80 · 09/03/2017 21:38

Travelgeek I'm also 14 weeks tomorrow and am the same. O can't even eat before 4pm without vomitting and even after that it's a gamble. I'm on medication too. I'm hoping it will go by 16 weeks. If not I might need to accept that this is my life now until September!

Frillyhorseyknickers · 10/03/2017 06:40

Morning. Scan yesterday - everything was well and baby was wriggling around - everything seems a lot more real now. They put me a couple of days behind my calculations so I'm back to 11+6.

I asked the midwife doing my bloods re the high MCV and she was very dismissive and said it's nothing to worry about, lots of women have it - why write to me then?

Would I be neurotic batshit to call my midwife this morning to ask her what it actually is?! No one has answered that question.

sherbertlemon17 · 10/03/2017 06:50

I would definitely phone Frilly. After all, no one has actually explained what it means to you, even if it is common and nothing to worry about.

12 week scan is fast approaching! It's finally One Tuesday! There's a few of us with scans Tuesday isn't there?

LouLou030783 · 10/03/2017 06:54

I would defo phone frilly I don't think saying that to u is really good enough x

Fluffywallow · 10/03/2017 08:33

Fell off this thread as haven't posted in a while - things have been a bit chaotic as DD has tonsillitis and I'm still not great with sickness. Been feeling a bit blue. Realised the other day I've not been out in the evening this year!! A bit depressing Confused

Glad to hear scans are going well and good luck to all who have them coming up. Three weeks today until our gender scan!

londonfeather · 10/03/2017 08:59

I've started wearing my bob badge on mornings I don't feel 100% on the tube - I'm amazed at the response from people, I think it's really quite sad how the majority of people will do whatever it takes to completely ignore you. obviously I don't expect everyone to give up their seat for me and there are a host of reasons why someone might also be feeling like they need a seat but on the whole I think people just don't want to give up their seat, even though they would be able to stand. I've also experienced some kind and considerate people that have gone out of their way to offer their seat but those have been very far and few between.

As someone who always offers my seat to badge wearers (the other day I gave my seat to someone more pregnant that me as everyone else just ignored her) or those who may need it more on the tube, I'm really struggling to understand why people act this way. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

LouLou030783 · 10/03/2017 08:59

How many on the thread plan to find out what baby is?

MrsK8541 · 10/03/2017 09:12

Hello, a quiet few days from me again! lou We will definitely be finding out, I can't wait!!!

n0ne · 10/03/2017 09:54

Hi all, been quiet a few days as nothing much to report, except I finally told everyone at work on Tuesday so I can wear all my clothes again - yay! MS still kicking my arse at 14+2 - I actually threw up an entire apple at work yesterday which is the first food I've upchucked. So things seem to be getting worse, not better Sad And insomnia and headaches, bleurgh.

Next mw appt is on Mon, not sure what they'll do. Probably blood pressure and doppler, hopefully full blood test results (iron and protein and stuff, oh and HIV result! But I was tested for that with DD so not expecting any surprises there).

EssentialHummus · 10/03/2017 10:08

n0ne I'm sorry to hear you're still suffering with MS, fingers crossed it passes very soon.

I've bought a few clothes Blush. Gap had a sale on, and I saw a few really cute unisex things, and couldn't resist. No more shopping for a while yet.

oliversmummy26 · 10/03/2017 10:12

Lou we're having a private gender scan on Mother's Day and taking DS with us, so excited!

Ditto the insomnia and headaches here, though exhausted and in bed at 9.30pm still most nights. Some nausea still, though it's definitely lessening, it's usually late afternoon/evening and I can't have a late dinner like I used to, need to eat about 6ish or I feel awful.

Doppler arrived yesterday and after lots of tries and youtube videos, finally found baby's heartbeat which was lovely. It was very quiet and the doppler couldn't pick it up to count it, but was definitely baby Smile

LouLou030783 · 10/03/2017 11:18

I will defo find out this time just for practicality reasons it doesn't really affect ds1 and dd as they are 14 and almost 11 but it means that ds2s clothes etc can be kept if it's another boy x

Heyitsholly · 10/03/2017 13:10

Sherbert my scans on tuesday too!

sugarplumfairy2010 · 10/03/2017 17:25

We have booked a private gender scan for the 24th was only £23 off groupon. Think we will start telling people after as its getting hard to hide. Cant wait to tell the kids.x

Lules · 10/03/2017 18:39

I have a scan on Tuesday too. I look massive already. Very few of my clothes fit me. I might be feeling a bit less sick - this would be the first day I haven't been sick if I manage it!
