olivers mine offered it at the 8-week appointment (and I turned it down because I have one for thyroid stuff). I'll be asking for it next time Blush.

WhiteLily86 · 07/03/2017 16:50

What is an exemption certificate? I haven't been offered one.

I liked the look of the bugaboos but I had a play about with it, and I didn't like it as much as the icandy or silver cross, there were too many clips to adjust things. They do look better imo though.

Lules · 07/03/2017 17:33

It gets you free prescriptions and dental treatment. I got mine from the GP - just asked at reception.

Lules · 07/03/2017 17:35

I had my booking in appt today. All fairly straightforward. I count as high risk atm because of my previous birth but I'll hopefully be downgraded. I'll have a consultant appointment at some point to discuss it.

londonfeather · 07/03/2017 18:44

I'm thinking of getting the new bugaboo bee as live in central London and am likely to travel more by tube/bus than car. Plus I'm really small and I think it is too... need to go test it out. Think I'll start buying after the 20 week scan. Since I found out I was pregnant DH and I been transferring a fiver over to an account every time I would have had an aloholic drink but ordered a lemonaid instead - turns out this is a good way to save! Almost have enough for the bugaboo bee already! It's all soon adds up (if you had previous form of being a bit of a lush, like me that is!)

Travelgeek · 07/03/2017 18:56

I've not got mine, planned on asking for it at 16 week appointment as that is with midwife at gp surgery. I wasn't bothered as I don't have any prescriptions, but then realised I've got a check up at the dentists in April.

My head is exploding with all the pram/ pushchair stuff! My biggest problem is that I just dont know what features I will really need. Lovely MIL has offered to buy one for us, and I think my mum probably will too, but I don't want either of them to spend good money on something that isn't right.

So here is a challenge for you buggy aficionados...

We have an active Labrador that I'm looking forward to walking lots with on mat leave. We go muddy places with stiles so I'm planning on getting a good carrier for baby - looking at the Ergobaby but have found a local sling meet to go to.

Do I need to pay more for something that I can clip a car seat to when you aren't meant to leave them in it for long? And then I am restricted to car seats that only last up to a year/15 months rather than getting a newborn to 4 years one from the start. However, I totally get that if baby is napping I will be reluctant to take them out of the car seat!

I do my grocery shopping online already and am not one to get the bus to town and go round the shops. Online ordering already rules.

We on the edge of the suburbs not in a city so limited getting on public transport, lots of driving.

However, our suburb does have a centre with shops, coffee shops, yoga studio and I can see myself wanting something to push baby there to meet up for cake, go to baby yoga, etc.

My sister had a lovely pram with her first but they bought and used a more basic umbrella pushchair as soon as he was old enough for it as it was smaller and lighter to chuck in the boot of the car.

But my mum is of the walk them miles in a proper pram (carrycot type) and then leave them by the back door in the fresh air to nap school of thought.

I dont know what I'll be like yet! I do love the look of the Bugaboo Buffalo online but it is pricey!

Your thoughts and suggestions are most welcome. Sorry that ended up being a rather long post.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 07/03/2017 19:17

12 weeks today, scan on Thursday. Driving myself mad with anxiety. 😫

Travelgeek · 07/03/2017 19:32

Not long now frilly and nothing you can do to make any difference so might as well not worry. I'm sure it'll be confirmation of all well soon enough.

puttingourhoodupdown · 07/03/2017 19:46

I'm not getting a new pram but currently at centerparcs & eyeing up all the lovely prams and carry cots! No way will DH go for a new one!!

flymo79 · 08/03/2017 01:56

Feeling bleurgh today. Normally I feel better when I eat but yesterday and today have felt more sick after eating and struggling to keep food down... 13+4... Grrrr

flymo79 · 08/03/2017 05:13

Sheeeeeeeet!! Also just realised I shouldn't have been taking cod liver oil!! Oh well. What's done is done. Gulp.

oliversmummy26 · 08/03/2017 10:22

Travel I think if you're doing lots of driving anyway, does that mean that the driving you're doing will about limit the time baby is in the car seat anyway? So once you get to your destination, baby shouldn't be in car seat, particularly as there'll then be the drive back afterwards?

I've been umming and ahhing over car seats this week, but am still leaning towards a 0-4 seat as it will save me a good £300-400 in car seat and isofix base for something which will only get used for a few months. Then more than likely will be moving into a 0-4 seat anyway, so what's the point?! I'm like you, hoping to do lots of walking, and will be using a carrycot as much as possible and although I won't leave the pram outside with a sleeping baby, I'd be happier leaving it in the carrycot in the kitchen than bringing the car seat in and letting it sleep longer in that...

I would pop down to mothercare/mamas and papas or somewhere and have a chat with them..but take a look at the ocarro in mamas and papas, it's sturdy and suitable for tarmac and "off roading" and at a great price with carrycot on www.pramcentre.co.uk Smile

I'd also like to get a carrier, but my concern with that is where do I put all the baby essentials then? Do I have to have baby on the front and a rucksack on the back??

Travelgeek · 08/03/2017 11:17

Ooh, I will definitely take a look at the ocarro. Thanks olivers.

Yes, driving times will mean that baby will be due to come out of the car seat once we arrive somewhere or back home so not much point in one that can clip onto a pram. I think a 0-4 car seat is the way we will go.

You make a good point about having a carry cot thay can come straight in to the kitchen from a walk and baby can be left napping in that.

Yes! I'm going to look like a pack horse! Baby on the front and rucksack of stuff on my back! I have a trusty north face day sack I reckon has a few more years life in it.

oliversmummy26 · 08/03/2017 13:41

Boss has just asked me if I would be willing to go to a trade show in Germany in May when I'll be 23 weeks...we will probably be exhibiting, so would be primarily based on a stand rather than walking around halls for 3 days.

I can't remember what I was like with DS at that stage, but not really sure that I want to go. Other issue is childcare for DS who is at school now, and DH works away during the week. So would mean getting my mum or someone to stay at our house and get him to school and back every day. Up until now for these types of things he'd have stayed at their house but can't now..

I'm not keen on going, but don't know that I have a valid excuse, other than childcare for DS, I don't think the pregnancy itself would be enough to stop me going..

ClaireAnneBumbleBee · 08/03/2017 13:54

Good afternoon, I would like to join the Facebook group, how do I do this.

Travelgeek · 08/03/2017 14:05

Does your work's insurance policy for foreign travel cover pregnant workers for any emergency medical attention needed olivers? You're in Europe so will have your EHIC but might be enough of a reason to say no.

calimommy · 08/03/2017 14:36

clairann email me [email protected]

olivers other than childcare is there another reason you don't want to go?

oliversmummy26 · 08/03/2017 16:30

cali I know it will be long days and late nights and I'm still so tired now and worry that it will just be too much. I expect DH will be deadset against me going too.
Also I hate flying without DS, I get terribly anxious that something will happen and I won't come home Confused.

oliversmummy26 · 08/03/2017 16:32

Boss has said as we'd be exhibiting rather than just visiting, I can just sit on the stand all day, but it won't just be that. I'll probably end up perched on a high stool, smiling and chatting and explaining products to people all day and there will be more standing around than he's saying there will be. I can't stay sitting down if I have a potential customer to speak to.
I won't get proper hour long lunch breaks, and it will be early starts and late finishes. We'll have to be at the show all day for 3 days, visiting would almost be better as we could disappear at 3ish and it would only be 1 night away rather than 4-5.

Heyitsholly · 08/03/2017 19:05

Im a big sling fan but yeah you need a backpack. But i mainly used it for washing up. Getting a tired baby to sleep. Walking to the local shops etc. Anymore than that i used the pram so rarely needed a backpack.
Ive reccomended slings/bought them for friends with babies since and they love them. For the newborns you can get a stretchy sling on ebay £15 hushbaby which is perfect for newborn sleepy cuddles while you eat etc

calimommy · 08/03/2017 20:08

olivers sounds like usual nurse shift stuff to me 😂 but other than preference do you think you can get away with not going? As in will it be taken well if you refuse? It's really not far enough along to complain of physical stuff. I'm just wondering if you will be given a hard time for declining.

LouLou030783 · 08/03/2017 20:15

Hi thought I'd join this group EDD 28/9 but 12 week scan next Thursday, I was on a group for my last pregnancy last year and found it really helpful, these woman are still a huge support now my son is 8 months..anyways hi everyone

puttingourhoodupdown · 08/03/2017 20:37

I didn't have a sling with DD from the start but will be getting one this time.

What are the car seat time length details nowadays?

LouLou030783 · 08/03/2017 20:54

Think they are generally suitable until 12mo ths/13kg not sure on length tho

DontBeBlueBeARainbow · 09/03/2017 06:17

I'm a total amateur and cheapo on the pram front. I used a 2nd hand 90s pram from the charity shop until 4 months, then used a 2nd hand brandless umbrella pushchair since then which cost £1.20 on eBay and has probably travelled 40,000 miles so far. I have owned 3 slings though, a stretchy for newborn, a soft-structured carrier, then toddler Tula.

Car seat wise, I'm hoping to borrow from friends but first time around i loved having a base which stayed in the car (but not isofix) so will try and track one down again. But are newborn carseats meant to have a 5 point harness too, as i don't think it did?

I got back to Beijing this week and the flight went well, but since then it's all gone a bit wrong, lack of sleep, DH truly the most useless on the planet, and D+V yesterday from nowhere for me. Plus Chinese smells seem to have brought the nausea back. I feel like i need a week at a spa to recover!
