Rustler - don't think there's such a thing as wrong ones. I brought both bamboo and disposable ones, disposable I used during the day, and bamboo at night once she was in a routine.
1004 - we brought that, although I ebf, I also expressed for mum/hubby to feed. She fed beautifully within the first 6 weeks, then I didn't bottle feed again until around 5m where she flatly refused those, and every other bottle going. I tried to get hubby to feed her so she wouldn't smell I was near and would take the bottle, but she was having none of it. At nursery at 5.5-6m she fed fine out of them and we still use them now without issue.

Bean - thank you for the tip 😊 I will deffo remember that! Anything to help out the poor old fanjo!!!!!

Adventuregame · 25/02/2017 22:11

Ordered the car seat today ! Most of the things now checked off my list !

Autumnsweater · 26/02/2017 00:23

Thanks everyone re movement advice/reassurance. Went in this morning in the end as didn't feel any movement when I woke up and normally I get loads of kicks then - they were so nice at triage and all is fine. Baby kicking lots today even though just as mad busy in work Hmm.

Freaked the hell out of DH though, I think it suddenly all felt really real for him.. he handled it well on the outside but you just know don't you when your DH is quietly freaking out in the corner there Grin.

RasperryInAMelon · 26/02/2017 03:39

Wow... some serious chat ladies!

We had friends come to visit yesterday and to entertain their 2YO DD, we took her upto London... big mistake at 7 months pregnant! 13000+ steps later, my body is fooked! 😳

Spent all day worrying about not feeling movement, seems it was that I was being crazy over active. As soon as I relaxed when they left little bean turned into a total fidget monster which was so relieving!

Just woken up and she's kicking away, but I'm insane amounts of sore now 😩

KLane the dads session sounds brilliant, I'm surprised they don't do that here as we're part of the same trust I think.

Rise we got given the Tommee Tippee kit and while I intend on BF, like you - I know I'll want a break and DH to help. I've got the express set too so will see how we get on, but I do hear good things about the closer to nature stuff.

Rustler I'm with you on the bag front, I've got Barcelona in 2 weeks and a weekend away with DH at the end of April that I want to use my bag for. At the moment I'm stockpiling a bunch of stuff on top of the changer table 🙈

Re breast pads, last time i tried little lambs reusable ones at first, one leaked and i freaked out and went onto disposables for about 6 months. In hindsight i think I'd put it on backwards (oops). Used them fine from 6 months. I'll try again from the start this time the right way around! The best disposable ones imo are lansinoh. Some of the others are scented (urgh). I think naturacare might do some now too, i like their stuff as there are less nasties (their maternity pads are good).

KLane · 26/02/2017 08:09

Raspberry Are you at QE in Greenwich? If so, it is offered there as well as Croydon and also St George's. It's free and sign up is online. It's a shame that the midwifes don't seem to know much about it- I found it online by chance. DH thought it was really beneficial and said it should be compulsory! The website implies it's more for "hard to reach" fathers but apparently this is completely misleading so disregard that bit. DH said it was basically NCT for dads only :)

KLane we are indeed! Just about to book him onto either March or April! Seems like a long old day! 10-4! But will be worth it! He keeps saying he's got all the gear but no idea! Thank you x

Hey Londoners, anyone got any thoughts/experience on NCT classes vs rival Bump and Baby club? Other than the latter being a bit eye watering price wise.
Are NCT free?
I'm smarting from the realisation thanks to this thread yesterday that we have to buy a car seat before he arrives. £££ ouch!!

KLane · 26/02/2017 08:54

Raspberry So glad that's worked out! It seemed long to me as well but I can't believe how much they covered- including a separate tour of the birth centre and a Q&A with a midwife (also changing a marmite filled nappy on a plastic doll haha). Your DH will come home an expert!

RasperryInAMelon · 26/02/2017 08:54

KLane Tried to book at Lewisham or QE but all fully booked for the rest of the year 😔 shame he seemed really up for it.

Mighty we're doing NCT and paid just short of £300 for it I believe.

OP posts:
savagehk · 26/02/2017 08:55

Mighty nct aren't free. I'm looking at the £119 britax shr ii.

KLane · 26/02/2017 09:06

Raspberry Oh shame! DH said he thought they had a few extra on the course over the number of original tickets, so might be worth giving them a ring and pleading!

Autumnsweater · 26/02/2017 09:24

Ooh savage it didn't occur to me you'd be able to get reuseable breast pads. I'm up for that. How many would you need?
I've bought a pack of lansinoh disposable ones to get me started, how often do they need replacing? Just to give me an idea on a cost comparison.

mightymouse76 · 26/02/2017 09:27

Thanks raspberry and savage. I'm off to weep over my bank balance!

peasandquiet · 26/02/2017 09:39

Autumn will depend how much you leak, maybe get 1 set of re-usable and try both then decide once you know what you like and what you'll need. If feeding works out this time and I'm still leaking then I'll get some re-usable as in the early days I have no intention of adding to the washing pile 😂

MissMooMoo · 26/02/2017 10:43

mighty our NCT classes start in Stratford on Tuesday (if I remember you are in FG like me? If its not you I will feel silly now)
They were £200 and we paid in installments.
The local hospital offer free ones if you are delivering there, they keep emailing me about daytime ones that I keep saying I can't attend! If you want I can give you the lady's contact details.

Rustler74 · 26/02/2017 11:02

Just paid last instalment for our nct course in march. Was 3X £79 so not free. Curious what the bump and baby classes would be like then...

Sah1987 · 26/02/2017 11:38

Wow I can tell I haven't been on for 2 days!!!

Cinnamon I have** sent you a PM for Facebook!

My conversation obviously worked on Thursday as I started at 6am Saturday and when my boss came in he asked if I was ok. I said no and that I was in pain. And he offered for me to go home - which I didn't just told him I wasn't moving for the day.
So did PA work - answered the phones was in a good spot for staff to come ask me for authorisation etc - did tannoys etc etc was good but by time I got home I needed to sleep.

So sent my DP and DD off to his mums overnight! Feeling very rested however because my partner wasn't in bed I wasn't propped up so hips hurting more!!

However did order my pram, car seat and isofix base last night! £350, luckily my mum & her partner paid for the pram & my dad for the isofix base.
The £250 limit is easy to stick to for second baby if you keep everything from 1st. I'm only buying nappies this time. Everything else is reuse or lent from friends or gifts from family. Where as first we paid for loads probs £750ish - so evens out!!

To whomever was asking about knickers. Trust us, you want to buy big and cheap so you can throw away if you bleed badly. Last time I threw away 10 pairs. I got a 6 pack from Sainsbury's on Friday which I will start using now and put all my old ones which still fit but are a bit Hmm in my hospital bag.

I've got 16 days left at work then I'll start packing hospital bag etc etc. If I get in before that point - 1. My baby will be REALLY early and 2. I don't think I'll care about a hospital bag! But once I'm off I'll start packing.

I've also got to make a date to collect clothes from my sisters loft and 3 friends houses whom have brought or are lending me stuff.

So think I'll be busy washing my first few weeks of leave x

mightymouse76 · 26/02/2017 12:06

Aha, thanks missmoo!
That is me, and it looks like they've got spaces. I'll likely be alone for some as dp won't always finish in time, but I think I'll go for it. Hopefully meet you then!

Bump and baby club is £250 for those interested (two full day sessions) but locations are a bit more limited.

MrsJW15 · 26/02/2017 12:39

I'm doing the hypnobirthing offered by Bump and Baby Club, although they get quite booked up. The NCT regular ante-natal classes are closer to us.

Might just order a car seat today, I've seen a few on offer. Alternative is waiting for the baby show (I'm going to the April one) to look for offers.

coxsorangepippin · 26/02/2017 12:58

It's lovely to hear about everyone starting courses! What are the nct ones like so far?

We'be booked the short nct course instead of the 20 hour one in order to fit in the hospital's own classes too. And a whole weekend hypnobirthing course. It's probably overkill but it makes me feel like I'm doing something to be in control!

MissMooMoo · 26/02/2017 13:30

DH and I built the baby's cot today and took the next 2 me out of the box (it stinks! Def needs an air out)
I can't figure out how to drop the side of it though Blush feel like idiot first time parents.
Manual was no help at all, in the end I said I would have a look on youtube for a video demo.

Sah1987 · 26/02/2017 14:39

Missmoomoo don't feel like an idiot - so many new things when you're a parent, I got a free pram to keep at my mums with nunber 1 and couldn't work out how to fold it down, so always left it up til it looted hard one day and I just pushed it down and bent it out of shape, only then did I see the catch my mum had told me was there REPEATEDLY so broken pram & smug mother! X

Sah1987 · 26/02/2017 14:39

Pelted down not looted....
