We had first NCT class this week - it was good. Very friendly and relaxed and learnt lots already !

PowerofThree · 26/02/2017 15:04

MissMooMoo we also got a next2me. The side is just tubes slotted together. I think there is a small catch on the underside you need to press to release (it looked like it in the manual but as dh actually dropped the side I didn't check in real life). But basically it is just really stiff! Dh had to wiggle and tug quite hard to get it out and one side came out easier than the other.

peasandquiet · 26/02/2017 15:30

Have any of you see the littlebird nursery range that Joolz Oliver has done for mother care? It's so lovely thinking about splashing out!

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 26/02/2017 15:54

Ahh just went to go and visit friends and their little New Forest pony that I used to ride for them sometimes (advantage of being short!) when their daughter was young and not so confident. He was super interested in sniffing the bump and kept resting his head on the side of it. One of my pregnancy highlights Smile

mrspage1985 · 26/02/2017 16:03

Hi all
Been away for a few days and lots to catch up on.
I've been bridesmaid at the weekend, Che lots of running around, a dress that has been taken out so much it lost its original shape and I felt like a right heffer Blush
However wedding went like a dream, bride looked lovely and am now sat on my sofa where I don't plan on moving for the rest of the day! SPD really flared up due to being on my feet so much and wearing heels for the ceremony
Hope all are well x

1004Rise · 26/02/2017 16:55

Peas that's a good point about clear counter tops, I like long open expanse of space (just so I can make piles of mess)! Thanks everyone for your thoughts on that kit, I've seen others on Amazon that come with pump and dummies and no heater thing or steriliser, thinking they might be more useful (and take up less space) also off to look for microwave sterilising bags.... Grin

Miss when I bought the next2me the woman I bought it from showed me how it all worked, got it home and tried to do the same things and couldn't work it out... had to resort to YouTube, I think I just wasn't being hard enough on it.... too worried about breaking it!

What are people paying for hypnobirthing classes? We're limited on choice up here so I don't know what's reasonable... Confused

Dream that makes me wonder what they can hear... my cat is most disgruntled that he can't sit on my lap properly anymore, he tried a couple of times leaning on my bump but I think he might have got kicked so he just squeezes down the side now Hmm

Peas Yes I was admiring that range... might have to opt for something from that for going home outfit Grin (maybe not in a newborn size though... want to get a couple of months out of it)

newbieho · 26/02/2017 16:58

Hello Folks, is anyone getting more tired easily? I'm 29+1 today and my strength and stamina are out of the window. I feel knackered after doing some simple and light gardening work today. Bump goes in the way all the time. Kudos to all of you who are highly pregnant and dealing with a toddler at the same time 💪 Star!

KLane · 26/02/2017 17:17

1004Rise Our two day intense hypnobirthing class is ridiculously expensive, something like £385. More than we are paying for NCT! It's in London though with a woman who is apparently a hypno birthing legend. I have multiple friends who have taken the course though and they've sworn it's worth every penny (it had better be). I looked into alternatives and all of the two day courses seemed to be £300 and up around here.

MrsJW15 · 26/02/2017 17:26

We are paying about £200 for half a day so that seems like good value to me KLane!

I'm getting a bit annoyed by various relatives going 'oh so and so says x is the best buggy, you must get one'. Thanks, but we've spent a lot of time looking and we know what we want!

RasperryInAMelon · 26/02/2017 17:32

Newbie 🙋🏼 after yesterday's expedition around London I've done... NOTHING today. Literally only gotten out of bed to go for a wee (a million times)... I'm going to go for a bath shortly but feel absolutely wiped today.

MrsJW it's so hard with prams, it has to be whatever is right for you. My DM asked the other day whether I could collapse my pram one handed if I was holding the baby and was astonished when I said it was impossible to fold down with the bassinet attached. Love her to bits, but she's driving me bonkers! 🙈

1004rise our hypnobirthing course is £260 for 2x 5 hr sessions (I'm in Essex).

Hoping its worth it!

savagehk · 26/02/2017 17:59

Here £180 for two almost-full-day Saturdays for hypnobirthing. First session was yesterday, now we need to do our homework!

Re breast pads, I think I only have 10 'natural' and 10 'black' ones, at first if I had used them exclusively I might have needed more. You do tend to leak much more at first, but by the time I was using them later on there was much less leaking so that was more than enough.

EsmesBees · 26/02/2017 18:00

So tried here. Had friends and their kids to stay over the weekend which was lovely, and DD adored having her friends sleep over, but goodness I'm exhausted.

Peas I love little bird stuff (although the sizing of the baby clothes is all over the place). It sells well second hand on FB. They also do nice maternity stuff.

Mrsjw smile and nod. It gets worse when the baby is here. Everyone thinks their way is best.

RasperryInAMelon · 26/02/2017 18:02

I've also realised ladies... it's not going to be long before we need thread number 9... we've only been here three weeks! 😳

MrsJW15 · 26/02/2017 18:04

Raspberry we found very few where that was an option! I think it was MIL this week who told me that someone in her office had told her that Bugaboos were the best and we had to get one! I just said that they weren't what we wanted.

Esmes I'm sure you're right. A (slightly tipsy) friend started giving me parenting tips last night at dinner. She has no kids. I know it wont end there! Aargh.

jennymac31 · 26/02/2017 18:10

Evening ladies

Have a poorly household this weekend. Dh has been fighting an illness for weeks but finally succumbed Friday. Our 3 year old dd doesn't seem 100% and I know feel like I'm next in line. Have barely done anything today other than lay on our sofa. Really need to go to work tomorrow but it's touch and go whether I'll make it.

Rustler74 · 26/02/2017 18:28

JennyMac not what you needed surely...
thanks for the breastpad replies all.
About the pram, still not bought one and dreading the cost! Hoping to have a good deal at baby show next week. The ones of mothercare own brand are still not that cheap, and every single one of them has a carrycot that then becomes the buggy. And it's not suitable for occasional overnight sleeps (how important is that?)
Still love silver cross and Uppababy but some of the newer designs from Cosatto are really nice too.
Been quite short of breath today again, although the dusting may have something to do with that.
Well meant advice gets greeted with a smile and nod. My mum is quite good and only advises when I ask her, but OH parents tend to be a bit passive aggressive... from what I heard from him, I think I may do a better job without so much of an effort, but maybe that sounds too harsh?

peasandquiet · 26/02/2017 18:40

Rustler have you considered a second hand Vista? A pre 2015 model would be 250-300 second hand in pretty good condition I think. Depends where you are.
Littlebird maternity Shock be right back 😂

Badgerbird · 26/02/2017 18:43

mighty a new car seat doesn't have to cost lots, even ones at mothercare range from £50 in the sale that's on now upwards. The saleswoman there showed us a couple of good ones for around £100

dreaming that is soooooo cute!!

Hope you managed to have fun though page :)

rise our hypnobirthing is £250/£275 for 4 eves 2.5 hours or 2 full Sundays. Includes the downloads, support etc. Really looking forward to it :)

jenny hope you manage to dodge it!!

Driving all done on roadtrip, my work here is done :) We do it every year to get my mum back home but was def more tricky with my ridiculous "sleep" this time round. Fitted in 2 walks today, one riverside amongst mountains in France and one on beach this eve near Barcelona. Gorgeous. Back to reality tomoz and a crappy new part time job to tide me over till April. Confused

PeachIcedT · 26/02/2017 18:44

Another one struggling with being able to do much physical work (although I did clean all the windows today so not feeling too guilty). Any decent length walk causes my hips/pelvis too much pain, so having to be very careful.

Good to hear some of the NCT classes have started - I never really found a suitable class, and the one I was looking at has disappeared from the website so I guess that isn't happening now - hope I don't end up regretting that!

I bought the stair gate from the Aldi baby event (last weekend - they still had loads of the stuff in stock) but it's too narrow so now I have the faff of buying the extension part - so another thing for the list!

Badly wanting a bath this evening to have a nice soak - I so wish there was one in this house.

1004Rise · 26/02/2017 19:08

But we bought a Bugaboo MrsJW why would you want anything else Wink

Fortunately we haven't had many people tell us how to do stuff, what to buy etc. I've just had more sympathy from people about pregnancy symptoms - still to find anyone who really enjoyed being pregnant, think it's a myth!

I'm so much less tired after getting iron tablets, I didn't think I was that bad before but DH keeps pointing out how much more I'm able to do.... like take a pile of washing upstairs without needing to sit down at the top Hmm bump does get in the way of things though... particularly washing up... who designed kitchens to have worktops at bump height?!?

Sounds like the £250 for 5 sessions for hypnobirthing is ok, might ask if she can do compressed sessions rather than it take 5 weeks though.

Jenny hope you avoid the lergy Sad

peasandquiet · 26/02/2017 20:43

Just noticed that a perfect prep machine is currently only £51.79 on Amazon. Never seen them so cheap new what a bargain !!

mrspage1985 · 26/02/2017 20:58

Are all these hypnobirthing classes a group of people or private? I can't seem to find any group classes locally!

Barnes79 · 26/02/2017 20:58

1004 - I agree, it seems like no one I've spoken to actually enjoyed being pregnant (I assumed my sister did as she did it 4 times, but apparently not...). I'm defo not enjoying it - the constant worrying about whether every little twinge or symptom is "normal", the loss of control over your own body and the burps with follow through when you've eaten a bit too much (or is that just me Blush).

I've been fortunate so far in that no one has tried to force their opinion of birth/parenting on me. However, I do think everyone has told me their birthing horror stories 😱.

Finally built the babies crib and emptied the spare room to start decorating sometime soonish. Just need to decide on colours...

mightymouse76 · 26/02/2017 21:06

Badger thanks so much for the tip on car seat, much appreciated. I've spent a large part of today shelling out for lots of small but essential things. I don't dare add it up!

Peach I'm sorry to hear you're suffering.
Are you having physio, etc?

I thought I was getting over the suspected kidney stone issue (or whatever it actually is). After only one bout of mild pain in (a very restful) 48 hours, I felt emboldened enough to walk to the shops for a newspaper. Less than 5 minutes in and I was hobbling. Was determined to get sodding paper so carried on and got there, but cried my way back down the road the pain in my side was so intense.

I can't just stay sitting down for the next 12 weeks so am going to push for the abdominal ultrasound tomorrow- if I don't know what this is then I can't begin to manage it...
