Thanks for the help everyone. I don't think I explained myself too well - my rational head now thinks today's movements were normal for today's routine (IE little movement when I'm running around work with no break for ten hours, lots of movement when I resting on the sofa at home) - but I am in general not sure what's normal as I haven't been paying that much attention, especially in work/when busy?

Eg that charity 'kicks count' that you link to savage - they have a kicks counter app which runs counter to the no more counting advice?

I think what I mean is I got all stressed today because I didn't really know what is normal for me, and was being a bit irrational Grin.

Teaspoon74 · 25/02/2017 00:29

Cinnamon - HV sounds like a right jobsworth! My view through pregnancy has been I'll be as accommodating as poss, but not if I have work/ family priorities. The HV has deadlines etc she has to show she's meeting too - all the flex can't be on your side! I would just say it doesn't work for me and leave it at that, unless there's something that you want/need from her at this stage.

Also, I'll try and get into the main site when in work next week (can't from phone) and PM you re FB. Smile

Good luck Bean!

Bit of a random question, but I am heading up North for family birthdays and have my anti DVT needles with me (self injecting every day for next 16-18 wks Sad). I've not brought my massive yellow plastic sharps box with me. Any tips on where/how to beat dispose of two small needles on a Sunday in central Liverpool? Alternative is I keep and carry home. Just a bit worried I'll smash them in my case once they're out of the protective wrapping.

jennymac31 · 25/02/2017 05:45

Just woke up from deep sleep and feel very emotional and weepy. I don't know if it's a mixture of over-tiredness and the overhang of stress from work (as I know I still have tons to do between now and Tuesday). Also know that I need to get arse in gear with getting stuff for baby and prepare for impending birth but dh seems to not be so keen as he still thinks it's too soon (am 28 weeks).

Gonna try to get back to sleep now.

mightymouse76 · 25/02/2017 07:16

Hey Jenny
I've had a few days like that recently, and am always worse after a heavy run with work.
Waking up daily around 5 isn't helping much either! Try to go easy on yourself, remember crying releases endorphins so has a positive side ; )

Re getting ready, I've avidly avoided sorting anything up until now but think 28 weeks is fair marker to start- I'll be that tomorrow and have started to order hospital bag bits (also spurred on by monday's visit to triage and the words 'possible preterm labour' being uttered!-proper reality check).
A bit of a nosey on the April babies thread showed a couple of babies turning up early (and are thankfully doing well) so despite that scenario being unlikely, now it's pretty rational to get a bit organised even for those in the ultra cautious camp like your DH (and me). Also, ultimately, you're the one giving birth so if you want to pace yourself on the prep and organisation, do it!
I figure I'll feel a bit better to get some things sorted as I'll feel more in control. Hope the same goes for you.

WishIWasSleeping · 25/02/2017 07:29

I got a letter from someone introducing themselves as my health visitor and wanting to come and see me in a couple of weeks... tried to call yesterday and got no answer.. (surprise!)
I'll be at work, so I'll be telling them no...
I didn't have a pre-birth visit last time?! I can't imagine what they think I need to talk to them about?!
They also attached info on classes which I didn't get last time... quite fancy trying those as I panicked a little towards the end, which I think increased my need for stitches.

For the kick counting thing - I never notice baby when I'm up and about and I heard the movement of your body acts to settle baby...

teainbed · 25/02/2017 07:37

I've had pangs of anxiety too, and feeling overwhelmed but can usually shake myself out of it. I think it's normal and worth getting used to because there's so much you can't control and when the baby comes I'm generally in the midst of a hormonal storm anyway!

I'm finally getting organised and Boots and Amazon stuff arrived this week. Looked at buggies and going to order the Babyjogger. New sling and just need to get stuff from my sister this week. Hospital bag stuff is bought just not packed! I'm nearly ready! I also saw a few early arrivals on the April thread which pushed me into action. My DD2 was born at 36 weeks and I'm 31 weeks on Tuesday. Shock But hopefully will make it a bit longer with this one.

Raspberry if you've had chickenpox you're fine. Varies from employers and risks in workplace whether you can come to work or not. As others have said the rash is generally covered by clothing.

savagehk · 25/02/2017 07:53

adventure but their app tries to get you to count "sessions" not kicks if I've read it right. My rule of thumb was always if there's something you know usually gets baby moving and you are in any way concerned, try that and if still nothing consider going in. Mine was always on the sofa around 7pm with my first, this one seems to like it when I'm lying down in bed on my side. As for getting ready, yes, from 28 weeks you have passed 'viability' so any labour from here on in and there will be a baby! Of course this early they'd be very prem but with modern medicine they should be fine, so it's probably worth getting a hospital bag packed (even though I've not done this yet!). Newborn clothes and things still won't fit at this point though so those could wait a little.

peasandquiet · 25/02/2017 08:03

Cinnamon I PM'd you please can you add me Smile

lucieloos · 25/02/2017 08:14

Tea, when I was doing ivf and was travelling with needles I would take one of the little plastic takeaway boxes to put the used ones in until I got home. So maybe that's an option?

teainbed · 25/02/2017 08:21

I do the same with insulin needles lucie. A small empty water bottle is good as it has a screw cap.

Sal1977 · 25/02/2017 09:16

Teaspoon - if they are the pre-loaded Clexane ones, just put them back in the plastic and shove them in your wash bag or makeup bag. They'll be empty anyway, so don't worry too much about them! I've got the whopping 5l bins too this time, but last time I had silly weeny Ines that got filled within about 2 weeks!

Cinnamon- not seen a FB invite yet. 😘

Bloody love Saturdays.

Rustler74 · 25/02/2017 09:24

Cinnamon me too re fb group x

1004Rise · 25/02/2017 09:47

Went to mothercare event last night, was useful as they had hypnobirthing and sling consultants in, so was good to speak to them. DH had a shot of the stretchy wrap and is totally sold on the idea Grin So definitely going to organise a meeting once baby is here to find one that works for us.

Took the plunge and bought both the car seat and the pram we wanted (only just still solvent Shock) keep telling myself that they're the most expensive things and everything else is relatively cheap. Wink

Think I'm in the mindset to start buying other stuff too, it's as if a switch has flicked and baby turning up now could be a possibility.

Very glad it's the weekend.... even if most of it will be spent on diy!

Badgerbird · 25/02/2017 10:19

mrsjw it is a bit scary when they hide behind that placenta isn't it! Most of my movement is felt low down with the odd bit to the side.

autumn I guess just take note of what's normal for you over next few days so you can tell when baby is deviating. Ask midwife advice though to be on safe side. Hope you're feeling less worried today :)

teaspoon maybe pop them in a Tupperware, then in bag and take home to dispose. You poor thing that doesn't sound like a pleasant thing to do!

jenny/ hope you're feeling a bit less weepy, it's a very emotional time and easy to feel overwhelmed Flowers

teainbed which sling did you get?

Have a lovely Saturday sal Smile

MissMooMoo · 25/02/2017 11:19

Interesting to hear people have had letters from health visitors wanting to visit! I am wondering if ours do visits before baby is born.

DH and I start our NCT classss on Tuesday, looking forward to them.

Someone mentioned a march meetup a few pages back. I can only do March 13 really but I would love to come if its then!

Went out to have dinner with a bunch of friends last night, one of them doesn't live in London anymore and I hadn't seen her in about 7-8 years. I only went to bed at 1am!! Can't believe how late I was able to stay up.
Feeling shattered today though.

MrsJW15 · 25/02/2017 11:34

Wow MissMooMoo, good work staying up until 1am! Good practice for baby maybe!

I think I was woken up in the night by some kicking. But I also could have dreamed that, as it was on my mind. Always something to worry about.

Rise I really hoped that our Mothercare event would have wrap people, but there weren't any. I think we are going to get an Ergobaby, but considering a cheap soft wrap option as well.

teainbed · 25/02/2017 11:45

Hanna Baby carrier badger. Have had one before. They do a wrap too.

jennymac31 · 25/02/2017 11:50

Well I thought I'd get the ball rolling with regards to prepping my hospital bag. I already bought a few clothing items for baby so decided to stock up on maternity pads etc for me. Might start getting things together so I can figure out what other essentials I really need. Despite doing this all once before, I cannot remember what I actually took with me as my hospital bag.

RasperryInAMelon · 25/02/2017 11:59

Jenny I've managed to pack a bag for baby but mine so far consists of a nightdress and slippers 🙈

OP posts:
MissMooMoo · 25/02/2017 12:04

I haven't packed anything! I have a pack of mat pads, nappies and some big pants for me.
The bag I want to use is the one I am using to travel with at the end of next month so I think I am just going to make a pile of stuff and if its needed before DH can grab it.

jennymac31 · 25/02/2017 13:03

Raspberry - am planning on getting the nightdress and slippers etc next week.

It’s been such a help having this group around so I can open up and vent my feelings, emotions etc. Not sure if I would have coped without you guys xx

mightymouse76 · 25/02/2017 13:14

I'm ordering pads, wipes and hospital/big knickers today...plus a nightshirt or two that could go in the bin if needed afterwards ConfusedGood call on the slippers raspberry! I'd have been in my socks...

I've also compiled a rather extensive list of snacks and drinks from Ocado. Stiff and ruthless competition from Dp means I can't skimp on this if I want anything left for myself! Grin

RedBlu · 25/02/2017 13:39

I missed our mother care event because of"storm Doris", it was bad here, trees blocking roads, etc and we lost power for ages.

Shame they don't do another one as I bet lots of people cancelled at ours

PeachIcedT · 25/02/2017 13:47

I went to NHS antenatal class today - learning mainly about the birthing process. Goodness me I left feeling a little more lightheaded than before I got there with all this describing squeezing out a watermelon! They are very pro-water birth locally which is good I think, as I've been leaning more that way recently. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

lucieloos · 25/02/2017 14:03

Where are people getting the big comfy knickers? Should I get nightdresses to throw out or nice breastfeeding ones? Are they likely to get ruined?? Sounds scary!!
