Glad everything is ok Barnes

growcookeat · 19/02/2017 20:07

Hmmm just got home to a letter from my surgery asking me to make a phone consultation with the GP about my bloods from 28 week appointment last week. Any suggestions what it might be? I don't want to Google in case I worry myself.

EsmesBees · 19/02/2017 20:21

It could just be that your iron levels are a bit low grow. Try not to worry. If it was urgent I'm sure they would have phoned not written and/or made an appointment for you.

growcookeat · 19/02/2017 20:29

Thanks Esmes that's what I was thinking. So would just be a case of taking iron etc.

Could it also be something to do with diabetes? Just wondering if that is linked to baby measuring slightly bigger at my check?

I know I just need to put it out of my mind until I speak to the GP but arrgghh always something to worry about during pregnancy right?!?!

Barnes79 · 19/02/2017 20:29

Just realised that I only have 99 days to go - anyone else with EDD of 29th May?

savagehk · 19/02/2017 21:34

grow probably iron as others said, are you negative blood type? Think that's the other thing. Diabetes usually done by gtt not bloods thought.

yellowismyfavourite · 19/02/2017 21:50

barnes glad all is ok
grow I am lucky that my head is supportive but we are a school in challenging circumstances and everyone needs to pull their weight. Am sure once I get there tomorrow I will just get into it... am being grumpy tonight! Using lunchtime wisely is a good plan- I am great at wasting lunchtimes so will try to be better at that. Hope you have a supportive leadership team too?? and all is ok with your blood tests...
tea 6 weeks will fly by I hope!!!

stationaryace · 19/02/2017 22:00

grow it could be that your blood sugar levels have come up high in the blood tests. In Scotland we have blood tests done at 28 weeks, then if your levels are noted as high you do a GTT to check for GD. I thought this was a UK-wide process but might explain why so many people here are doing GTTs already. It could also be iron. There was a third thing the mw told me they checked for with the bloods, as they take three vials, but I can't remember what/may have tuned out a little Blush

Sal1977 · 19/02/2017 22:55

Hiya

Long time lurker here!

Due #2 (team yellow still) on 3rd May so currently 29+4. My little boy turned one only 2 weeks ago! ShockConfused

Took us 3.5yrs and 4MC to have our DS and one unplanned quickie to see us in this situation!! I guess life had a plan for us!

I'm opting for an ELCS this time after an EMCS last February so have been given dates of 26,27,28th April or 2nd May. We won't find out until the week before.

Hope you don't mind me tagging along for the ride?

Badgerbird · 19/02/2017 23:03

Welcome sal! Congratulations and what a journey you've been on!

Glad all ok barnes :)

vanilla hope you aren't aching too much now busy woman! My latest diy project is the bathroom but mainly just sanding and painting which is nice and straight forward.

newbieho · 20/02/2017 07:07

Hi Sal!

growcookeat · 20/02/2017 07:08

Welcome sal!

Stationary* yes I had routine bloods done at 28 week check. She took two lots from me, said testing for iron and blood type again. I'm definitely positive blood type so won't be that. I'll just have to stop obsessing until I've spoken to GP!

Yellow yes new head last year and she is great. Deputy recently off on mat leave so lost a friend there but KS team are all nice enough. Hard getting up this morning but I'm on it! 6 weeks really isn't long.

growcookeat · 20/02/2017 07:09

No idea what it's done to my post!!

Rustler74 · 20/02/2017 07:56

Welcome Sal!
Not long to go for you. Keep up with this thread regularly as we are a fast moving bunch!
Back from West Sussex yesterday. Back didn't do too bad until 8-9 pm, took paracetamol when in bed, but woke up this morning with so much more pain.
I'm going to call gp or midwife again to make that referral to physio, and head out of bed as soon as this morning's paracetamol kicks in.

lullaby23 · 20/02/2017 08:39

Glad all ok barnes.

badger when in Rome France it'd be rude not to!

Welcome sal

EsmesBees · 20/02/2017 08:47

Welcome Sal. Many congratulations, and well down you doing all this with such a small gap. Is your one year old walking yet?

Rustler hope the physio helps. I have my first physio appt on Thursday, but it's a group session so not sure what to expect.

1004Rise · 20/02/2017 09:03

Badger I'm not sure French wine counts as alcohol (champagne definitely doesn't!) Grin

Welcome Sal & congratulations!

Glad all is ok Barnes

After shopping on Saturday and working to get the garden presentable yesterday I was knackered.... feels like I did elventymillion squats because I couldn't bend over Hmm

28 week appointment for me today Smile

Jugoo28 · 20/02/2017 09:13

Had my first pregnancy massage, it was glorious! Would highly recommend.

Brain is starting to turn to mush at the moment as I get tired so easily, 12 more weeks of work to go :)

uptown8617 · 20/02/2017 10:09

I had a super productive day yesterday including sorting out the front and back garden which I've never done before! I've been lucky enough not to suffer with tiredness (or anything really, sorry 😳) but all that bending over wiped me out!

I started hypnobirthing at the weekend too, not doing a class but have borrowed the Maggie Howell cds from a friend and have bought her book. 28 weeks this week so plenty of time to get my head into it.

1004Rise · 20/02/2017 11:27

28 week appointment went well, it's so cool to hear the babies heartbeat again.

Like Stationery said the bloods they check (in Scotland) are blood sugar - a screening test rather than a diagnosis which explains the fasting, and if there's a problem then you do a GTT. Your iron levels and the 3rd one is to check is any of the baby's blood has mixed with yours somehow.... although the midwife did say in 30 years she's lucky if she's seen 2 or 3 people where that's happened!

My height measurement is way off the scale (30 at 27+5) but the midwife said that the 28 week one is almost always squiffy (medical term) they don't worry about it Smile

beanandturnip · 20/02/2017 11:39

I have been in krakow for the weekend for a hen do! Wow it's been painful. I have dipped out of the hen action today and gone for a wander on my own!

I am currently sat in a little coffee shop watching the world go by, it is a sunny day here. Spud is wriggling away too, I feel so peaceful and have just taken half an hour to catch up on this post 😊

I can't remember who said what, but 28wk bloods from what my mw has said is full blood count (check iron etc), double check of blood group, blood sugar check. I have our 28wk apt on Thursday and can't wait. I feel like it has been forever since I saw my midwife.

For 2nd plus mums when is your next apt after the 28wk apt?

savagehk · 20/02/2017 11:42

bean 4 week gap for me. I'm also in Manchester but think my appts are a bit out of sync. (I'll be 31w+a few days); last one was 27w+ a few days

RasperryInAMelon · 20/02/2017 12:40

Welcome Sal!

Sounds like there have been some lovely busy weekends! DH and I took the opportunity of the dry weather to fit the car seat and ISOFIX base yesterday so that's another thing off the list!

I haven't got my 28 week appointment until the 8th and my next physio isn't until the 20th when I'll be adding shin splints to my list of complaints 🙈

Anyone else suffering with that?

OP posts:
MissMooMoo · 20/02/2017 12:50

WelcomE Sal
DH and I also did some tidying this weekend.
Its taken me YEARS to figure out that DH can only really cope with a few tasks a weekend.
In the past I would have made a huge list of everything that needed to be done,we would do a bit of 1 and DH would take a "break" and we would end up having a row Blush
This past weekend we cleaned out under our bed and did the front garden. Next weekend I think we will build the cot and possibly a bit of the back garden weather permitting.

Its a lovely day here in London and I did the school run with my coat undone this morning, got lots of comments on bump! Lots of people hadn't even realised I was pregnant.

I don't get my 28 week appt until march 4 where I will be 29+3. Eager to hear baby's heartbeat again.

MrsJW15 · 20/02/2017 13:37

Esmes I had a group physio appointment. It was a small class where they talked through things that make SPD worse, things to make it better etc. Then they offered follow up one to ones if you wanted one. I thought it was quite helpful, but mine is much better now.

Badger, Rise French wine definitely doesn’t count!

I had my 28 week appointment today as well. They said they check things like iron in blood, as it’s been a while since they last did that. After my problems with itching, they are also checking liver function and have asked me to call and get my results, not wait for the letter, just in case. They didn’t say when to call, but I think I’ll give it two days. They wouldn’t give me a Fit to Fly letter because of the breathing problems I had a few weeks ago, so now I have to go to the GP for that. Sigh. And I failed to mention the heartburn because I always have such a long list when I get there!

Rise I was 28+3 and also measuring 30, which she said was high, but also seemed unworried. She said if it they were worried, they’d just send you for a scan.
