Claire I realise it's easy to say but concentrate on the fact the doctors aren't worried. If they thought they needed to do something they wouldn't have sent you home. The good news that baby seems happy and is wriggling about well Flowers

Rustler glad work is getting better for you

Enjoy your night out badger!

Thanks esme size was confusing enough without adding togs into it! Though I still think they're a good idea, even if they are expensive.

Doctor prescribed me ranitidine (or something like that) for heartburn, said I could still take Gaviscon but not more than twice a day because the sodium can raise your blood pressure. He was a bit weird because he didn't know I was pregnant... surely the huge bump and all my notes would have given him a bit of a clue Hmm He started by asking me if I was stressed!! Anyway we'll see if this works...

I'm not that tall either, 5'3" and a bit (that bit is important Grin) my bump seems to have gone straight out. Haven't been measured yet but have my next appointment on Monday. I have the sneaking suspicion that this baby might be big... I was 8lb 12 oz and my brother was 10lb something, DH was only 7lb 6 but MIL was in labour for 36 hours whereas my mum was 5 hours at the most.... thinking I'd prefer the short labour big baby scenario!!

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 14/02/2017 21:48

Thinking of you and your OHs Rasperry and Claire at a really tough time Flowers

Had my 28 week appointment today and was measuring 29cm at 28+6, student midwife loving being kicked whilst wielding the tape measure. I asked if the baby had moved position because kicks in the side have now become simultaneous rib and groin pokes and I can feel something heavy round my bladder area all the time. Sure enough he's gone from transverse to head right down and feet in the ribs, it's very cool that you can feel the change.

Really glad to hear you're feeling more positive Rustler

growcookeat · 14/02/2017 22:09

Bean and savage that is kinda what I thought. There's not much space for anything to grow except outwards! I do have a short torso/small waist (but big bust and hips) so I think it's just my shape. Will try to relax and hope all is ok at next measurement.

1004 I am also confused by the gro bags! I've picked up some 1 tog ones. So I'm thinking a long sleeved babygro and the sleeping bag will be enough for May/June? Even the suggestions on the back of the pack are confusing.

Claire hope you manage to get some rest and feel calmer tomorrow.

yellowismyfavourite · 14/02/2017 23:29

bean and savage do you think the opposite is true? I am average height but with a long torso and am measuring small for dates. Growth scan on Thursday. Maybe long torso means a smaller bump? I have also not put any weight on in the last couple of weeks- I had been putting a pound or two on a week since Christmas. Trying not to worry because I am getting lots of movement but it's difficult!
claire glad scan was ok but sorry to hear you still don't know what is going on with the heart beat.
grow glad your appointment went well even if the measurement was big. I read somewhere that the fathers weight and height has less impact on birth size as it is the mother who has to cope with the birth- some kind of evolutionary thing to do with the survival of mother and baby. Don't know if it's true though!

Spam88 · 14/02/2017 23:32

For people looking at gro bags, I think there are some reduced in the mothercare baby event?

Brightsmoke · 15/02/2017 04:26

Hungarian, I could have written that post myself!! EDD the same, 29cm, even down to the student midwife and way baby is laying!! How freaky.

I'm really struggling to sleep past 3am, regardless of what time I nod off. I'm tired, but I just can't sleep. Anyone have any tips? There doesn't appear to be anything waking me up :( I work 10 hour days, so it's not that I'm not doing enough in the day. I'm so fed up!

lullaby23 · 15/02/2017 04:50

Raspberry sorry to hear about your FIL what awful news Flowers

Grow I thought they allowed for 2cm either way on the bump measurement so if you're 29cm at over 28 weeks it sounds spot on. I measured 25cm at 24+3 and doctor was happy just as a comparison. I am also short of torso.

I'm intending to swaddle this baby as long as they'll let me! I have some swaddle bags and large muslins. then have some light muslin sleep bags (Aden & Anais ones super cute!) to recycle from DS. Once we're back in the UK in the autumn I will get some grobags in a heavier tog, DS's are from Slumbersac and fit 12-36 months. I find poppers and zips better than velcro which doesn't seem to wash well. also for older babies zip down rather than zip up might be better as they are less likely to try and escape although DS has not tried this yet!

claire glad you have been properly checked out and the dr is happy.

Autumnsweater · 15/02/2017 06:33

I've not had any fundic measurements yet, apparently only start doing them at 28 weeks here. But I did a bit of reading on the research behind them at Cochrane/NICE evidence etc, basically although they can be useful there's a high rate of false negatives, so we shouldn't worry too much about them. High risk pregnancies get sent for additional ultrasound scans instead don't they.

Autumnsweater · 15/02/2017 06:35

I am preparing for them to tell me I'm measuring large as although they didn't measure me at the 25 week check the midwife commented about me being "a good size" Blush!! I've got a short torso too (and a tall husband.. MiL said both of her babies were very long so not to get onesies with enclosed feet as baby might not get much wear out of them Grin)

ClaireSunflower · 15/02/2017 06:44

I was expecting to get told I was measuring small at the midwife appointment as everyone is telling me I have a tiny bump and they can't believe I am so far along. At 25 weeks I was measuring bang on 25cm so I was surprised. I am fairly tall though so the baby probably has more space. They told us at the scan yesterday he is 2lb1 at 26 weeks so he is growing ok at least!

Jugoo28 · 15/02/2017 07:04

My sling arrived today, I'm so pleased with it but we have a lot of practicing to do to get the wrap perfected.

At my 24 week appointment I was measuring 24cm but I am scared of having a giant baby as I was a 10 pounder. 6 ft 3 DH was teeny, 7 pounds exactly so it could go either way!

growcookeat · 15/02/2017 07:38

Yellow I hope you're right! I was only 6 lb 7 so much better than DH at 9 lb! Smile

I'm taking it easy today as I went into work yesterday (half term) to sort my stock cupboard and set up my classroom and definitely overdid it with the bending/lifting. Hopefully rest will see me right before we go on our last couples break away on Thursday!

savagehk · 15/02/2017 07:46

Yep yellow you've probably got more space so less "out" needed. I think fundal height is most useful when you suddenly veer off the line, suggesting growth is either tapering off or ramping up, and that's when they send for extra scan. (Could also be too much/little fluid). Re growbags, long sleeved top and sleeping bag was enough for my first in December. Remember overheating is more dangerous than being cold for a newborn, so provided the house isn't freezing...

savagehk · 15/02/2017 07:48

Oh and the enclosed foot babygro tip is a good one, we had a baby with big feet, so they were also a problem. Footless + socks worked better generally (but some bigger-footed things were OK).

RasperryInAMelon · 15/02/2017 08:11

Thank you again to everyone for your kind words the last few days. It's been a tough time, but DH and I are back to work today and awaiting news from the autopsy next week.

Rose I hope your first class went well! We're due to start ours next month which is exciting! We currently have all the gear, just no idea so fingers crossed they teach us everything we need to know! 🙈

Those suffering with heartburn - I think I too will have to speak with my GP about getting something other than Gaviscon. Is there anything else available over the counter?

I've been given a couple of SwaddleMe blankets and some large Muslins so will give that a try with the Moses basket I think. Then move onto grow bags once in the cot.

Grow thank you - I might just message you later on when I get 5 minutes to myself Smile

Claire sorry it's been a tough day for you, I hope that they are wanting to continue keeping an eye on you and LO?

Bright I was having difficulty sleeping too, I got myself some lavender spray from Holland and Barratt which has made a world of difference!

Those due on the 24th... were officially in the 3rd Trimester!! 98 days to go... give or take!

OP posts:
MrsJW15 · 15/02/2017 10:23

Raspberry the trimester thing confuses me! I thought 28 weeks was the start of the third? Either way, we are getting close.

I want to apply for a job (promotion) at work to start after my mat leave. It now looks like the final round of interviews may be a month before my due date - eek. My bosses are very supportive, but that's pretty close.

My hands have been feeling quite weird the past few days - a bit sort of puffy and achy. Can't quite figure it out. They normally swell when it's hot, but my rings are still fitting so it's not that.

lullaby23 · 15/02/2017 10:36

You can buy ranitidine without a prescription (brand name Zantac) but assume free on prescription.

savagehk · 15/02/2017 10:53

As I've mentioned before, I find Eno good for anything digestive. It's an antacid. I think 'Andrews' might be similar, or 'Rennies' - worth asking the pharmacist.

RasperryInAMelon · 15/02/2017 10:57

MrsJW* - Different people seem to go with different weeks, my Pregnancy+ app has this morning changed to 3rd Trimester.

I too have been having the odd hand issue, rings are feeling tighter in the morning - but I seem to have little flare ups of the itchy swelling, especially in my thumbs Confused

OP posts:
PowerofThree · 15/02/2017 11:19

Glad its not just me who is confused by the third trimester dates! Across various apps and websites, I have seen 27, 28 and 29 weeks listed as the start. So on one I have just entered it but elsewhere I still have two weeks to go...

lucieloos · 15/02/2017 11:22

My app (pregnancy +) put me in the 3rd trimester at the start of 25 weeks which would technically be the 26th week when you start counting from 0-1, 1-2 etc.

Badgerbird · 15/02/2017 12:06

Catch up more later but for now...

Oh claire that does sound stressful and emotional. My friends little boy was just born with a heart murmur and after checking they don't want to see him for another year now as he's healthy :)

As I say I'm short and measuring bang on for dates but my bump is sort of flat rather than rounded?! I'm also carrying high and guess it's coz I have short torso.

Ha ha mrsjw that sounds similar to us! I'm 5'2 DH is 6'4!! I'm dark, he's pale..... who knows how our little one will turn out?! Exciting! Although it looks like she has his size 12 feet already Confused

Thanks rise it was lovely (apart from small quarrel at the end but that's RL eh!). Hope the new meds help your heartburn, sounds horrid!

RedBlu · 15/02/2017 12:09

Has anyone had a few days with loads of movement, really strong, etc and then it goes back to still movement but not as strong? After my midwife appointment last week, bump was moving like mad for about three days, really hard kicks and rolls and then on Monday it went back to movement but not as strong.

I am assuming she has moved to a different position as I am still feeling kicks and rolls but it isn't as intense as before!

growcookeat · 15/02/2017 12:23

Red yes I had that a couple of weeks ago. I think baby turned so was facing my back and kicking towards my placenta so couldn't feel as much. After a couple of days spun back again and started bashing my tummy. Today seems to be facing and kicking downwards! So although I'm feeling movement all the time, it doesn't always feel the same.

Adventuregame · 15/02/2017 12:24

Mine have definitely ramped up the last few days so maybe it'll calm down again by the weekend. I can definitely feel him moving positions ! Got 28 week scan tomorrow so the usual feelings of nervousness creeping in !
