I'm so sorry Raspberry. I have a difficult relationship with my father, can imagine all the complicated feelings this is bringing up for your DH, especially so close to becoming a father himself. Take care of each other xx

Adventuregame · 14/02/2017 15:29

Is anyone planning on using the baby sleep/Gro bags from birth in a moses basket or are they only really for in the cot ?

savagehk · 14/02/2017 15:32

adventure the problem is size rather than location, you need to make sure it's suitable from birth - theoretically a smaller baby could end up inside the bag or something with the 'normal' sized ones. I used (and am going to again!) a cocooi from Merino Kids, it was fabulous. (bought 2nd hand off Ebay as they are a bit costly...) www.merinokids.co.uk/cocooi-sleep-bag

peasandquiet · 14/02/2017 16:50

We used growbags from about 3 weeks had to wait for him to regain birth weight as that was the weight limit on the ones we have. Will be warmer in May than winter when I had my son so plan to swaddle in giant muslin or use them as blankets rather than straight into a bag this time.

lucieloos · 14/02/2017 16:54

Adventure, I have a couple of the gro bags suitable from birth and plan to use them in the snuzpod. Also have a gro swaddle.

EsmesBees · 14/02/2017 16:57

So sorry to hear your news Raspberry. Having been through a similar bereavement last year, my advice would be to take as much of the practical, day to day stuff of his shoulders as possible so he has time to grieve.

Adventure I've bought a second hand grosnug for the early weeks. But in general, grobags can be used in any sleeping environment as long as that's all they have over them (so could be used for cosleeping but make sure none of your blankets fall on to the baby).

astormgivenflesh · 14/02/2017 17:04

Urgh, had first anti d injection today which I was terrified about as I've heard it's awful but midwife had made a mistake so after calming myself down and my husband taking morning off work, we got sent away as I'm 25 weeks and need to be 28! Had letter and everything but they've rescheduled to March 15th!

Also had consultant today: I have a chronic illness and some midwives and Drs have said I'll need an elective c section but this one was very insistent that no, I am having natural and will be fine so that's terrifying!!

1004Rise · 14/02/2017 17:12

So when you put baby in a grow bag, that's all they need to go in?

Storm sounds confusing!!

Rabbitykins55 · 14/02/2017 17:26

Raspberry so sorry to hear your news. Hope things calm down for you soon.

Adventure I've gone for the gro snugs for when it's tiny and then the bags. The gro snug is swaddling with the option of having it as a bag if it doesn't like it's arms tucked in. Normal swaddling would be cheaper but we wanted the option of both and also have zero idea about how to swaddle a baby! Blush

Rustler74 · 14/02/2017 17:54

Swaddling would be my first choice so I got a few swaddle blankets and big muslins as well.
www.nct.org.uk/parenting/how-do-i-swaddle-my-baby#how-to-swaddle
I'm aware that some babies hate being swaddled but there is still much to say for the grobag as opposed to sheets from birth.

Ladies hearing your stories made me think how lucky I am in this pregnancy. Apart from the work issues, which would have still been there if I weren't pregnant, I have not had any difficulties and a wonderfully supportive environment from family, friends and professionals. I know very well how I can't take that for granted. Whenever there has been a moan you ladies have been very supportive. I am trying to spare my partner from too much stress, although he says I should tell him whenever something is bothering him. He's been a star, reading his expectant dad book and learning, attending scans and talking to bump. The singing is slightly less talented but hey, Beatles songs belong in the culture baby should be learning, and the mouse on the stairs in a windmill in Old Amsterdam looks very funny with its clogs on!

I'm going back to work tomorrow on amended duties in the team that has been incredibly supportive from the beginning so I'm well chuffed! When I came back from discussing that, I had a good sleep on the sofa, aware that my Wednesdays and some Thursdays until end April will be napless

EsmesBees · 14/02/2017 18:08

rise they wear clothes (normally a vest) underneath, but yes, nothing on top of the grobag. There is a chart which comes with the bag which tells you what they need to wear depending on the room temperature.

vanilla8 · 14/02/2017 18:08

Thanks klane, mrsjw, lullaby and 1004rise i am going to check out those options for lip balm.

Anyone with heartburn Omeprazole really has been a help to me, I even sleep so much more now.

Sorry for your sad news Raspberry Flowers

I have been looking on the gro company website for weeks and still haven't decided on gro snugs or gro bags or tog types!

EsmesBees · 14/02/2017 18:11

storm to reassure you, the anti d is not that bad. Annoying you had to reschedule. That's not good about the c section, if you need it medically they should offer it. You can always request a second opinion from another consultant.

EsmesBees · 14/02/2017 18:12

vanilla 2.5 tog should be fine unless you have a very hot/cold bedroom.

vanilla8 · 14/02/2017 18:19

Thanks EsmesBees, I have just received a 15% off code from them so might take the plunge

growcookeat · 14/02/2017 18:39

Raspberry sending big hugs. You've got through the first day which is often the hardest. My DDad died from alcoholism 9 years ago so I completely sympathise with the huge range of emotions you and your DH will be feeling. Feel free to pm me if you want to chat more about it x

growcookeat · 14/02/2017 18:43

Had my 28 week appt today. BP fine, bloods taken and heartbeat heard. Baby got all giddy when she pressed my tummy and heartbeat sped up! Looks like I am measuring slightly large though - 29 weeks when I'm 28+3. MW said nothing to worry about as long as future growth follows the curve on the chart. But obviously it does make me a bit nervous. Found out from mil at the weekend that DH was over 9 pounds when he was born Shock

Anyone know if bump size is affected by height? I'm only 5'2" so wondered if that would mean a bump that sticks out more? Or is the growth chart personalised already?

Badgerbird · 14/02/2017 19:13

Oh raspberry how sad, I am sorry. Hugs to you both, such a difficult time Flowers

Thanks so much for all cot bed info and cox that thread was really useful thanks :)

Glad the Work situation seems to be getting sorted rustler.

claire I hope your scan goes well & little one is just being cheeky.

We are off out to get some dinner. Last valentines just the two of us. Sort of!

Hope everyone feels the love tonight Smile

ClaireSunflower · 14/02/2017 19:31

Well I'm back home from the hospital now and feel worn out.

They did a scan and all looked fine with the growth and oxygen flow. They couldn't see any cause for reduced movements and the baby actually seemed to perk up during the scan and I've since felt a few kicks.

The worrying news was he has developed an ectopic heartbeat. It seems to skip a beat every few beats then go really slow then back to normal. The doctor seemed to think it was nothing to worry about and should rectify itself before he is born but I am still terrified. It sounds horrible to hear on the Doppler because I'm used to it sounding normal and regular. I've not stopped crying since I got home and am so stressed out. If the docs say it's nothing to worry about I know I need to try and chill out but it's been a really worrying day Sad

MissMooMoo · 14/02/2017 19:34

claire sending virtual hugs. Will they do any extra monitoring? It must be so scary! I am glad the doctors don't seem worried.

beanandturnip · 14/02/2017 20:39

Wow! It has taken me ages to catch up.

Hello to the newbies 😊

rasperry I am so sorry to read about your tough week this week. I echo what others have said and just being there for your husband will mean everything to him. Sending lots of love your way.

grow your growth charts are already personalised. However, I am also a shorty (5ft 1inch) and I always measure big. I also look a lot bigger as I go out instead of up.
With my son they sent me for growth scans and estimated him to weigh 10lb plus, they tried to push a csection on me but I refused. He was 6lb 7oz.
With my daughter I measured hug again, and had growth scans but she measured average and was 6lb 15oz when born.
Unless you have diabetes it is very rare for your body to grow a baby that is too big for you. I remind myself of this when I catch myself in the mirror as my bump looks huge at 25+5!

I have GTT on Thursday and occy health tomorrow at work. I have done 9-3 Monday and 9-4 today and feel utterly rubbish. So Hoping they will tell me what I can or cannot do.

storm I also require anti-d. To put your mind at rest it isn't particularly nice but it isn't the worse thing ever. The liquid is fairly thick so does sting a little but nothing too major. I have my anti-d apt on 2nd march. Had husband give blood last week to see if he was negative. But he isn't so I must have the anti d 😩

savagehk · 14/02/2017 20:41

grow you'd think it was taken into account on the personalised chart but I'm not so sure. Last pregnancy I was continually above the 'top' line; and produced a 9lb4 baby, this time the chart seems identical and I'm again measuring above the top line (despite it having on it that I had a 9lb4 baby). I do think the bump sticks out more if you're smaller (there's less place for it to go! particularly if you have a short torso) though.

newbieho · 14/02/2017 20:42

Claire I will keep my fingers crossed - hopefully the baby will be ok and the heartbeat will go back to normal.

MrsJW15 · 14/02/2017 21:17

That's reassuring Bean. I am the same height and I feel huge - bump definitely has to go out not up. At my 25 week appointment I was 26cm (but at 25+6) but I'm worried about how big I'll get. I also have a very tall husband so anticipate a long baby!

beanandturnip · 14/02/2017 21:33

This is how big I look at 25 + 2. I have midwife apt next Thursday when I will be 27wks I didn't have a 24 wks apt so that will be the first time I will be officially measured this pregnancy.
