Me too mrs rise and raspberry!! It's been over 20 years and tummy looks weird enough as it is at the moment without taking that out!! Still got normal one in and seems fine but will bookmark jo bananas for later down the line.

How's the pain autumn?

Finally got some over the bump leggings...... sooooo comfy! Only about £3 on eBay too!

FoxMulder · 26/01/2017 12:11

They call it "optimal cord clamping" round here. Sounds better Grin. I think they do a lot of things, like taking baby off to clean up and weigh, because it's what they've always done rather than for any medical necessity.

KLane · 26/01/2017 12:22

Did anyone read the delayed cord clamping section in the book "Expecting Better"? Essentially I think that through the author's research, she found delayed cord clamping had the most benefits for babies born before 37 weeks (36 maybe- can't remember) but for babies born close to/after 40 weeks, the benefits were much less and it increased the risk of jaundice.

If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it! It has put my mind at ease about so many things.

I'm so glad you ladies are super chatty - the thread is keeping me entertained while I'm back in bed again!!

Thought I was fixed yesterday, feeling no pain in tummy etc. Ate first proper meal all week (falafel wrap) and suffered from indigestion all night. So today I went to work and made it half an hour before running to the loo and not making it in timeShockConfusedBlush
I bet my poor class of 5 year olds were so confused when another teacher just turned up and said Mrs grow is a bit poorly and has gone home!

Luckily I managed to get a go appt for this afternoon so hopefully my bowels will behave long enough for me to go.

Anyone know anything about IBS in pregnancy?

teainbed · 26/01/2017 13:22

I think the problem with that book Klane is that some of it is already out of date.

savagehk · 26/01/2017 13:42

Also under the weather here, been in bed for two days with some cold or other. Ugh.

Just grabbed the three birth books i have handy (aware two might be a bit hippy). The newest and NHS centric one suggests delayed clamping might be the norm although I'm pretty certain it didn't happen with me, but they were concerned baby was in distress so that might have been an unusual situation.

The NHS book they gave me has two options... so it looks like the preferred option is to wait til it stops pulsating but if you've had a hard time they speed it up....

Hm 1004 interesting. I think they're conflating two issues there (placenta vs cord). I wonder whether or not you can wait for cord to stop pulsing before having a managed placenta delivery? I know i agreed to managed placenta delivery as they advised to do so due to the forceps, although was going for a physiological on birth plan.

Raspberry I love the wallpaper, I wondered if it was B+Q; we've just bought a roller blind for our extension from there in that exact pattern! I didn't know there was a matching wallpaper!

RasperryInAMelon · 26/01/2017 15:10

Cinnamon please don't tell me in the yellow??

I saw one in store, same pattern but in blues and greens

Loving the nurseries x
After 2 days of BH contractions, I'm taking it easy today, feet up and watching bump move beautifully. It fills me with loving feeling and the certainty that I don't want to know what gender I'm having!
I totally love reading your messages!
Went to tkMaxx this morning and found the perfect changing bag, as well as a gorgeous hooded towel with a fox on. It's special because my mum's maiden name is Vos (Dutch for fox). I also bought a few nursing tops from H&M.
I deserved my rest, look forward to reading more from a chatty bunch x

MrsJW15 · 26/01/2017 15:52

Feeling a bit sorry for myself as my stomach is a bit upset today - although not as bad as yours Grow - and I don't know what caused it. Plus my skin is all dry and itchy! I might skip the gym tonight in favour of buying lots of E45 products to pour on my skin and see if it helps Sad.

PeachIcedT · 26/01/2017 16:04

Thanks for the info savage I've been interested in reusables since buying a couple in Aldi and little lamb looks good - Shame the sale is on during work, I'll have to have a sneaky peek

growcookeat · 26/01/2017 16:34

Sorry to hear that mrsjw. Hope you rest up and feel better soon.

Doc seems to think I have long lasting D&V bug so I'm off until at least Monday now. Strict instructions to call her or MW if I'm at all concerned about baby. She prescribed meds for heartburn, stronger painkillers and rehydration satchets as my levels were getting a bit low. She did reassure me that even if I'm not eating a lot baby will be fine as long as I'm drinking enough so that's good.

Going to put my feet up and oversee DH continue the nursery prep I think!

MrsJW15 · 26/01/2017 16:42

Hope you are feeling better soon Grow rest sounds like a good plan. Someone once said to me that the baby will take everything it needs before it even gets to you, so even if you are feeling rubbish, hopefully baby is doing ok.

A cup of tea a piece of chocolate seems to have helped here...

Adventuregame · 26/01/2017 17:36

Rise thanks for the photo info. I'm Rhesus negative so wondering if that will be a reason I can't have delayed chord clamping. Will have to speak to my consultant x

savagehk · 26/01/2017 17:45

adventure if that's the case and it were me (I'm positive) I'd ask for a blood test for baby's father. If he's negative too so will baby be.

EsmesBees · 26/01/2017 17:48

Rise that article! That woman is amazing!

RasperryInAMelon · 26/01/2017 18:08

Adventure did I just walk past you or your doppelgänger near Embankment tube station??

I only had my first Jan last year in hospital and I'm pretty sure they didn't delay the cord clamping, in fact I've only ever heard of if during this pregnancy. I have high BP symptoms though so I'm guessing they needed to check her over. I also don't remember them 'asking permission' to inject to contract uterus! (Although I had previously agreed to this, as I had to have a slightly different drug to the normal) I do remember it coming as a total surprise that I would get another contraction and have to push out the placenta! Grin
I've been really mardy today. I've got a full blown cold, I didn't fit into my normal work dress this morning so had to put a maternity one on, people keep commenting that they can tell I'm pregnant now, and I've eaten 2 rounds of buttered toast, 1 slice with jam, 3 (small) chocolate bars, a bowl of bananas and custard, and some sweets. Nice and healthy and not at all full of sugar in advance of my GTT on Monday... Confused

RasperryInAMelon · 26/01/2017 18:31

I've been the same today wish filled up on utter crap all day and shamelessly polished off 3 cream eggs today to top it all off🙈
