I like your thinking brightsmoke! Nursery nurses and midwives appreciate that. I would possibly not bother with the kettle as there's bound to be a kitchen on the ward or unit.

How about keeping birth stories separate on a thread? So we can add the new ones as they come?
Anyone going to excel on Sunday 5th march?

Brightsmoke · 08/02/2017 10:06

Savage, there is, but me and DH are very fussy with tea brands 😂 And I don't want him disappearing constantly to get tea 🙈

bright I'm not sure you'd be able to use your own kettle on the ward, it'd need to be PAT tested and there's probably need to be a risk assessment done. I'd have thought you should be able to get hot water to add your own tea bags to though :)

teainbed · 08/02/2017 10:22

I think there's been some crossed wires about the GTT (I've had a few!) and yes the first blood test is the fasting one. The second one is two hours after the lucozade or glucose drink.

I've just had a growth scan which showed exactly bang on 28 weeks which was exciting. The sonographer said diabetics are normally off the chart but I have very good diabetic control so that's probably why things are matching up well. The baby had his or hands hands clasped together, so cute!

I'm fairly sure kettles on a maternity ward are going to be a no no (boiling water and babies!) but where I've been there has been a trolley with an urn you could help yourself to. Amazing tea and toast after delivering too!

The instructions for my GTT include fasting, then the lucozade drink then the blood test. Is this different to everyone else ? Maybe I need to read the instructions again ?

ShiniBerry · 08/02/2017 10:57

Bright the usual range is between 5 and 95 centile, which it looks like yours is within. They will probably check your GTT, but if normal won't worry too much. I've added my measurements from 23 weeks where LO is within but at 95th but at 27+3 it is off the chart at 97. All my other measurements were ok apart from head circumference which is again on the high side but within 5 and 95. Since the AC is off the chart I need to have another GTT as this measurement is an indicator of GD and I also have a family history :-/

I didn't get any instructions Shock

PeachIcedT · 08/02/2017 11:17

I was woken up before my alarm this morning with another sodding calf cramp Angry. Never got those before pregnancy, maybe I need more calcium.

All those percentiles can be worrying, I know for me the head circumference was at the very lower end, a part of me panicked that I might be infected with Zika (I went to Central America last January) but another part of me told myself to be rational as that would most likely be picked up in the scan.

MissMooMoo · 08/02/2017 11:33

DH also wanted to bring his own kettle and tea bags and I've told him no way to the kettle.
I am imagining him unplugging things to plug in his kettle and what if there is an emergency and people come flying into the room and knock over his boiling hot kettle! I told him to pack his own teabags and bring buscuits for the nurses/midwives in exchange for hot water.

Speaking of hot water we have woken up to none! Angry our heating works fine and the boiler fires up when you turn on the hot water but it comes out freezing cold. Luckily one of DH good friend is a boiler man so can come and have a look.
Our boiler was brand new just over 2 years ago so I am slightly irked it may need a new part now!

savagehk · 08/02/2017 11:38

Thermos? For either hot water or for pre-made tea?

newbieho · 08/02/2017 11:52

Adventure your GTT instructions are the same as mine

Adventuregame · 08/02/2017 11:56

Newbieho phew ! Was starting to think I'd completely misunderstood the whole thing !! It is obviously different depending on the hospital which we've said before how things differ with appointments etc

Badgerbird · 08/02/2017 12:43

peach I believe it's magnesium rather than calcium for cramp. There is a magnesium spray you could try, not sure if ok when pregnant though so best check. Also apparently stretches before bed helps....

EsmesBees · 08/02/2017 13:04

My last hospital provided one mug of tea for both DH and me after delivery. It was the best cup of tea I have ever drunk! After that it was back to plastic cups and him having to source his own drinks!

PeachIcedT · 08/02/2017 13:18

I wouldn't be surprised if that was low too badger I think baby has been borrowing it all from my supplies! Wish I had energy to stretch before bed, bedtime is creeping closer and closer to 9pm for me now, I'm normally fine during the day and then the tiredness really hits early evening.

CinnamonTwist · 08/02/2017 13:22

Bright 12 weeks... that's quite scary! I still don't have a nursery 😂 Also there seems to be a bit of a trend in my family for babies coming early... so I might not even make it to 12 weeks ConfusedShock
Anyone packed or planned their hospital bag yet? I was thinking of starting mine at 30 weeks ish - just starting to get stuff together ready to go in, then maybe packing it around 35-6 weeks ish?

rose7120 · 08/02/2017 13:24

I've posted a couple of times, but struggling to keep up with thread. Learning lots though! Just realised I can reply on my phone Blush I was thinking i had to post on my laptop!

My baby has been in the higher percentiles with both scans and at my 26 appo, measured 28cm. I know it's still normal, but convinced he's going to be a big un!

For those with anterior placentas, are you still feeling light movement? I'm almost 28 weeks and whilst I feel movement, it's still very gentle!

The only thing I've bought so far is a pram (Urbo 2). Just trying to create opinions about other things, as still feel it's too early to buy everything! I'm so lost with feeding. I intend to breastfeed and hope to express too. What should I buy beforehand? Do I bother with bottles and a breast pump? As things can be delivered pretty quick offline, I don't know whether to wait to see how he feeds? Hmm

For those with spd, the ikea support pillow is a cheap basic solution. A birthing/gym ball and swimming help for me too Smile

peasandquiet · 08/02/2017 13:32

Hi rose, I didn't buy anything with my first as intended to BF. He wouldn't latch and I had to panic buy bottles and my mum went to a friends to borrow a breast pump for me- not ideal when your already stressed/emotional and tired. I think if you know that you would only BF for 3-6 months so you will need all the bottle stuff anyway then you should buy before as you'll use eventually. Likewise if it's breast milk all the way for you then buy a pump as you would prefer to express in early days than give formula. Or you may feel if baby doesn't latch then you would go straight to formula in which case I wouldn't buy a pump... hope that all made sense !

savagehk · 08/02/2017 13:34

rose I think most people are moving to thread 8 now :)

Re phone replying, there's a Talk App which has (finally) been released for andriod, I think the iPhone version has been around for a while. (You can use the website on your phone too)

If you're petite I think measuring big is pretty normal. I'm petite and I grow them big though. I note my 'personalised' growth chart has the top line on the normal '1cm per week' basis though Hmm so I'm already topping out my range. My last baby was 9lb4 so no idea why my chart assumes this bump should be smaller.

I've not got an anterior this time and am feeling lots of rather uncomfortable movement if I'm honest - but apparently baby is breech ATM so hopefully it's busy moving itself head down. It was very uncomfortable y/day when mw was feeling for the head up near my ribs.

If you're intending to express, you'll need bottles. Some women hand express (I never tried). I had a good experience with the Medela Swing pump, but if buying again this time would probably buy a Lactiline with a closed system so that you can resell / reuse without issue. (People do resell the Swing, but there's a chance milk could have got into the pump itself, which is obviously not good as it could grow nasties)

mrspage1985 · 08/02/2017 13:41

Looking at these charts - does anyone know about this one? Midwife did it at my 24week check up, but didn't tell me she was doing it and I didn't really realise until I saw her marking the paper.
Am I right in thinking this is the height of baby?
I was 23.6 when I went so at 90% for 24 weeks? X

savagehk · 08/02/2017 13:48

That's your bump measurement - same thing we're talking about. Rule of thumb is 1cm per week. (Not sure what the first word with 's' is on yours). Mine is allegedly 'personalised' based on various factors, judging by what's written on the chart - think it's spat out after the 12 or 20 w scan.

They'll probably be happy if you're vaguely following a line, but if you suddenly shoot up/drop will want a scan to check if baby's OK or if you have too much/little fluid.
