barnes slap him for me, it's your ribs expanding! nothing to do with calories!

Adventuregame · 07/02/2017 21:35

I've got GTT test week after next but I have to do the drink at home then go to have blood test within the 2 hours so not actually sat waiting ?

Badgerbird · 07/02/2017 21:39

Oh barnes try and ignore him Love, he's a bloke! You're growing a whole new person inside you for gods sake! Hope you can get bra sorted so you're comfortable.

peas I'm a pretty outdoorsy kind of person so need something that'll keep me warm n dry really for when I go walking.

Still squeezing into my normal sized puffy coat which apparently makes me look like the hungry caterpillar or a bigger boys parka coat which makes me look like the little lad off East is East at the mo which is giving everyone a good giggle. Funnily enough nether of those options is the look I was going for Confused

RasperryInAMelon · 07/02/2017 21:42

I'm going at 32 weeks. I've got 22 days leave to take and my midwife and physio had recommended I go early with SPD

Autumnsweater · 07/02/2017 21:56

Barnes are you finding it difficult to arrange appointments around patients in general?
I'm struggling (vet not Dr), work is great about it but I don't like letting regular clients down when I've already arranged stuff especially when their pet is really sick, which I can see happening more often if I get sent for tests more last minute as time goes on :( find it stressful but I work such long hours I can't arrange outside of work hours.

Barnes79 · 07/02/2017 22:06

Autumn- work are good about it but patient appointments are booked up to 6 weeks in advance (physio - not Dr either) and it creates so much hassle for the reception staff when they end up having to rearrange at the last moment. I could only make my 25 week midwife appointment when I was 22.5wks due to my GP practice not being able to book it in sooner as they'd not set up the calendar or something. I find it's more the stress of not knowing how long these appointments will take and worrying about not being back at work in time for my first patient that is most stressful.

ShiniBerry · 07/02/2017 22:22

Hi ladies, this thread moves so fast it takes me ages to catch up! Love that there are so many of us on here now!

We booked our baby show tickets a few weeks ago, there was a 45% discount on the made for mums site (think I linked it in on here at the time, looks like discounted tickets are still available www.madeformums.com/school-and-family/save-more-than-45-on-tickets-for-the-baby-show/23332.html ). Planning on checking out car seats, slings and pumps. Also hoping they might preview the new UppaBaby!

For coats I gave up and wore my DHs big puffy jacket when it was ridiculously cold a few weeks ago, it made me look like a big green blob lol. Back to wearing my usual wool pea coat just unbuttoned, but thinking i might treat myself to a nice spring jacket!

I've had two GTTs since December and a third next week as baby's abdominal circumference is still at 95% centile from the scan yesterday. I find the two hours goes pretty quickly if you have something to read. Also I made sure to eat something right before fasting ( just before midnight if my appointment was at 9.30am) as I'd be starving in the morning. I also bruise easily so request baby needles. I bruised horribly at my 1st GTT, my arm was sore for days and black and blue for a month.

Hoping to work right up to 39 weeks though as baby is measuring at 29+ weeks instead of 27+3 this might go out the window. My bump is getting so big now, I honestly am a bit worried about how much more this baby will grow in the next 12 weeks! Having pretty bad PGP these days too, so bad I have a hard time walking home from the station after work and have had to give in to the waddle :-/

My 2nd bout of sickness seem to be settling thankfully, was waking up almost every morning throwing up. Ladies who have had sickness throughout I really feel for you, it completely sucks.

Autumnsweater · 07/02/2017 22:24

That sounds very similar to exactly how I feel, not knowing how long these things take (how far behind they're running etc). Then you're rushing to get back so you don't start the shift behind that's a horrible feeling :( my 12 week scan ran two hours late so that put the fear into me..
And I feel like it's giving reception more hassle to rearrange stuff as well.

WishIWasSleeping · 07/02/2017 22:32

Oh I had lots to reply to and I can't remember hardly anything!
My GTT last week was starving for 12hrs before first appt. take bloods at first appt, (always in the morning) then drink the lucozade (no flavours allowed, only original) during the appt, sit and wait for 2 hrs, (last time was allowed to leave, but now they like to be sure you arnt doing any kind of exercise that would impact your results) have more bloods taken exactly 2 hours later.
They told me about the wait booking, although I already knew, but this obviously isn't the process nationwide given some previous responses!

Was going to share my birth story but I just typed it out and it's waaaaay long. Will try and condense it!

Rustler74 · 07/02/2017 23:06

Just come home from choir practise about 40 minutes ago and spent so much time catching up on all your stories. If we don't watch out (don't stop me now 'cause I'm having such a good time) we will need another thread very soon!
GTT on 8 March, hate fasting!
Next scan at 29 weeks as well as obs+endocrinologist clinic on 9th March
Going on Mat leave from 1 May! I'll be 36+3 by the last working day.
I'm finished ranting for today, knackered and BH (from swimming then singing?)
Goodnight ladies and thanks for your birth stories, keep'em coming FlowersSmile

stationaryace · 07/02/2017 23:09

My GTT last time was in the maternity hospital, after my bloods at the hv came back slightly high. All had to be there for 8.30, got blood taken, drank a glucose syrup then waited for 2 hours before next blood taken. Luckily the syrup was much more condensed and no where near the volume of lucozade you guys have to drink. My mum (retired community nurse) advises opening the lucozade the night before and drinking it flat so you don't puke it back up. Not sure how it'll work this time as we've moved since, plus I have a 2 year old to entertain for 2 hours unless I wangle her a sleepover at my parents.

Labour last time - waters broke around 8pm while I was on the loo (handy!) but I wasn't sure what it was so merrily put up the xmas tree just in case, as it was 2nd Dec. Went to bed at 1030 but couldn't get comfy to lie down, then started contractions while DH slept. Woke him at midnight after timing them on my phone (download an app, pushing a button twice is much easier than counting) and headed into hospital at 1. DH had a shower while I sat downstairs on the phone to the labour ward, convincing them I had to go in. They thought it'd be too early and would just send me back but was 7cm when I got in. Original plan of G&A went out the window as I just couldn't breathe properly with it so got my lovely morphine-type drug instead. Pretty sure the only thing I said to the mw was drugs! DD appeared just after 6am so fairly quick in all but it didn't feel like it and I still remember it now. I was exhausted after not getting any sleep that night, then had two nights in hospital (not sleeping there either as 5 mums in room) trying to get bf established, so by the time I got home I gave DH the baby and crawled into bed. Not looking forward to the 30 min drive to hospital again as I felt every bloody bump/dip the car took. Oh and the tens machine we rushed out for the previous week was useless. I didn't love it or hate it, it had to happen to get DD but this time I am insisting on going home earlier as 3 days without any sleep is a killer. And the mw noted my baby blues on day 4 - nope, that's what happens when you try to catch up on sleep after being awake for 72 hours lady!

lullaby23 · 08/02/2017 04:09

Yikes it's taken ages to catch up on the last few days!

Whoever was asking about iCandy I have the strawberry 2 but 2014 edition I think there was a newer version out last year. Really like it but in hindsight wish I had bought one that converts to a tandem. The adjustable handlebar is great I prefer it on the highest setting despite not being very tall. Happy to answer any questions. Going for the Orange once it comes out.

I'm surprised some people can do the lucozade at home as I thought your fasting level was a factor? Or is this the glucose challenge test as opposed to glucose tolerance? Here (not UK) it's baseline tested, drink, sugar tested at 1 hour and 2 hours. Only finger prick though not a proper blood test. Strange how it varies.

Had 24 week check today, baby measuring ok for dates and has gone breach! Also seemed to be eating her toes.

jennymac31 · 08/02/2017 05:28

Morning ladies

Not having a good night's sleep so thought I'd give you my birth story. Apologies if you've heard it before and have tried to condense it as much as possible.

Contractions started at 7am on the Tuesday so woke up hubby. Things were progressing throughout the day but was struggling to hold anything down (let's just say things were coming out of both ends - apologies for tmi!). Early hours of Wednesday (dd's actual due date) couldn't cope anymore so went to hospital but was sent back home as only 2cms dilated even though mw noted that I probably had an infection (hence struggling to hold things down). Was advised to labour some more at home and eat little & often. Went home and continued to labour for another 24 hours before going back to hospital on the Thursday, as still struggling to hold anything down. Saw a different mw who immediately put me on a drip as I was clearly de-hydrated as a result of the infection I had. Overheard mw telling her colleagues that I should never have been sent home yesterday as I would have had dd that day if I had been given fluids when I originally arrived. Was very angry to hear that but too tired to let it bother me (hadn't actually eaten anything since Monday night). Labour progressed rapidly and waters broke but mw initially didn't believe me as I didn't look like I was in pain! They reluctantly looked at my pants which confirmed waters broke and there was meconium so they were going to induce the labour and give me an epidural. Unfortunately when I was examined I had leaped to 8cms so too late for epidural. Was told baby would arrive in 2-4 hours but she made a quick entrance 45 mins later as her heartbeat started dipping (which led to rush of hospital staff coming into my room) so ventouse was used to help get her out.

Glad dd arrived safely but on reflection I was unhappy about how it seemed that assumptions/decisions were made that affected my labour. Had I not pushed the mw to check my pants God knows how long it would have been before they would have examined me to see that dd was possibly in distress. Had felt uncomfortable with some of mw decisions made at the time but as a ftm I had no idea and trusted mw knew what they were doing.

Really hope I have a better labour experience this time round that doesn't last 56 hours!

Morning all, bought discounted tix shini thanks for that link. Going on the Sunday as my husband loves to do a deal 😂
Birth stories, will share mine as it's super positive and I feel like all you 1st timers will be hearing mainly horror stories.
Waters went in the middle of the night at 39w. Contractions didn't start immediately so went to the hospital to be checked over and to book induction for 36 hrs time. Contractions started the minute I got home and got into bed at about 3-4am. By 6am I was in so much pain I was begging my hband to take me to the drugs. He called the MLU and they said wait home as long as possible, finally set off about 8am as I couldn't cope any longer. Arrived at 9am, the midwife took one look at me asked if I wanted a pool and turned the taps on, she took my BP etc and I got in the pool - AMAZING relief. Sent my husband off to park car... admitted to midwife I thought I could feel the head coming out 😂 Husband re appeared began pushing and had him not long after 10am. I am hoping for a repeat this time. But will go to the MLU a little earlier 😂
Have got GTT in a couple of weeks, dreading it as was horrible last time and worried I might get a positive due to fam history.

1004Rise · 08/02/2017 08:57

Jeeze! I leave you alone for what seems like five minutes and we nearly need a new thread!! Just placemarking so I can catch up!

coxsorangepippin · 08/02/2017 09:02

mrsjw, shini and badger I have been living in a gigantic cloak-like sheepskin coat for months but have to admit I now can't do even that one up! I find wrapping up warm helps with the PGP so I am glad I won't just have to wear it open Smile

barnes I really recommend the Bravissimo fitting service! They do a 'pregnancy fit' where they pick out brands/styles that inherently have a bit of stretch etc so the bras carry on fitting for a while. I am still comfortable in mine I got a couple of months ago even though I've grown even more in that time. Also they like to fit you with larger cup and smaller band sizes which was better for my self-image when feeling rather podgy Wink

Adventuregame · 08/02/2017 09:14

Rasperry has to start the new thread so the link to spreadsheet stays at the top. I'll get thinking of a title although I may have exhausted my creativity on the previous ones.......

Adventuregame · 08/02/2017 09:19

'Bumps, Bargains and Birth Stories' ?

Rustler74 · 08/02/2017 09:40

Great title x

coxsorangepippin · 08/02/2017 09:42

But the speed these threads go, we may not have any birth stories by the time it gets to 1000 messages!

coxsorangepippin · 08/02/2017 09:44

Bumps, bargains and Braxton Hicks? Wink

Brightsmoke · 08/02/2017 09:51

Loving all the birth stories, thanks and keep them coming! :)

I'm a bit worried about the Abdominal Circumference or baby, but I can't see what the centile is of it, but I've read about the diabetes risk. Is anyone with more experience able to help? 😩

Me and DH have chosen names wether baby is a boy or girl now, very exciting

All of us due on the 3rd, as of today we are in the 3rd trimester, and 12 week count down, eeeek!!

Brightsmoke · 08/02/2017 09:54

Oh and also, is debating taking a little kettle, tea bags and milk for DH (and obviously nurses or other people in the ward) when I'm in hospital, would that look completely bizarre?

savagehk · 08/02/2017 10:02

bright - yes, that sounds bizarre Grin - is there no cafe on site?

Adventuregame · 08/02/2017 10:03

Ah yes - I meant the birth stories being shared by the 2nd time mums ! Goodness not ready to contemplate a thread of our own birth stories yer ! Wink
