Luchi he looks fabulous and I'm so pleased you have him home! We've been thinking of you xx

abeandhalo · 03/04/2017 09:56

Our lovely little boy was born a week early last night at 820pm after almost 48 hours of labour then an emergency c-section.

All that hypnobirthing I practiced went completely out the window it was just a horror show!! But no regrets at all when you look at this little face!

Congratulations on all the new arrivals!! What a cutestorm! Grin

Peanut - I've also just started to try hand expressing ahead of C-section scheduled for Monday (gulp). Tried twice in the shower but nothing doing alas. Maybe my technique is wrong - has anyone seen any good videos on this? I read to press about an inch behind the nipple with fingers cupped round the boob in a C shape - but although I feel like there's firmness there, nothing's come out so far. 38 weeks today!

peanut2017 · 04/04/2017 19:52

Hey cuppa still nothing has come out for me can see a tiny bit on each but nothing that would fill anything.

Stanford university have a video and yeah it's meant to be the c shape although my boobs are a lot bigger than hers in the video.

Said to me to massage with cream for 10 minutes and then try for 10 mins to express. Back in hospital tomorrow so going to speak to Lactation consultant again to look at what I'm doing

Good luck

LuchiMangsho · 04/04/2017 20:12

I had a midwife in hospital show me how to do it. Basically you actually need more pressure than you think. It's also actually easier if someone else does it for you. I felt like a cow being milked but it did the trick. 10 mins per boob is too long. 2-3 mins per boob then switch and then back again. Otherwise you will tire yourself out and it won't be as efficient. Again remember that 0.5ml is considered excellent POST delivery so don't despair. Also with son no 1 I had no colostrum but breastfed with ease.

Cuppaqueen · 05/04/2017 16:14

Omigod, that was good advice about someone else doing it Luchi! My husband had a go for about a minute and presto, drops of colostrum each side Shock I'm still in shock and I think he's a bit chuffed with himself! The strange things you do on the pregnancy journey...

This video helped as well re the technique - pressing back, then squeezing and releasing. m.youtube.com/watch?v=85l3rpsjyC4

LuchiMangsho · 05/04/2017 19:10

Erm. My lovely but batshit MIL did it for me. Actually at one point a friend came to visit and she was on one boob and MIL on the other and the midwife was chipping in. The husband walked in and was like WTF is going on?!

peanut2017 · 05/04/2017 21:33

That's a better video cuppa than the Stanford one. Was with the Lactation specialist today and she did manage to get some out! Yay! But boy did it hurt. I'm obviously going to gentle on myself.

Have the colostrum in the fridge 🤗 and will try again tomorrow. Said to then freeze it on Friday!

Showed my Hubble how to do it so think will get him to give it a go

Doctor bringing me in next Tuesday for a trace & an internal so will see what happens

Hope you are all keeping well

bangbangprettypretty · 06/04/2017 02:32
