That's good to know, I'll get that booked in. I feel a bit like it's easy to slip through the cracks a bit with the NHS unless you're really clued up and do lots of research.

I'm just on the way home, standing as usual as no one ever offers me a seat. What I find really galling is that at the station people see your badge and still push to get on the train / tube taking the last available seats. I don't mind today too much as I've sat down all day but once I'm bigger I'll just stand in front of people with my bump out or just ask for a seat!

Notyetthere · 13/02/2017 19:38

Spin thank you for the better explanation. That does make sense.

Sea that must be rubbish. Even if you are ok standing, please ask for a seat as other people standing might bump into your tummy when trying to steady themselves. That is my biggest fear. I am lucky in that I take the southeastern trains on the Charing Cross/Dover line where there is a seat at least 98% of the time. There might not be seats if their have been delays and cancellations.

Glad the 20 week scans have gone okay Luci and Sea - it is good to know what to expect from this scan re: checking all the different parts of the baby.

Congratulations on the girls Not & Thumbs! :)

I have also been offered the whooping cough vaccine after 20 weeks. I had whooping cough when I was a baby and DM said it was awful.

I definitely have a bump now (18+1) and getting lots of staring at my midriff at work Hmm I have to go for my third lot of booking-in blood tests tomorrow after they failed to get enough blood the first time and then forgot to label the samples the second time - frustrating. The receptionist said very loudly to the entire reception area "are you the one who has special blood tests?" Now convinced all the village think I have special blood Blush

Kitsandkids · 13/02/2017 23:12

It's my 20 week scan tomorrow. Looking forward to it but also a bit apprehensive just in case any problems are discovered.

Once I've had the scan hopefully I can get started on the baby shopping!

I went to IKEA on Sunday and looked at the cots etc, which was pretty exciting!

We've got the pram so the next big thing to decide on is a car seat I reckon. Do people generally get one for babies then buy one for the next few years once they're out of that, or is it best to get one that goes right up from birth to 12ish?

Also, is anyone else getting cold after cold at the moment? I get better for a few days then another arrives! I've been full of cold for at least a couple of days a week since early January!

DrewOB0 · 14/02/2017 07:21

Morning all! 16 weeks appointment today. I'm getting really bad sharp pains around belly button, especially in the morning. :(

DaisyQueen · 14/02/2017 07:25

drew it's probably just muscle and ligament stretching so try not to worry but mention it to your midwife

DaisyQueen · 14/02/2017 07:28

For those who have had your 20 week scan did you get a hospital appointment letter through the post? After my 12 week scan the receptionist gave me an appointment and wrote it on the back of my notes but I've had nothing through the post. For 12 weeks there was information saying to arrive early and how much to drink prior etc Confused

rhodes2015 · 14/02/2017 07:33

Kits, same! Swear I've had some degree of a cold since Xmas! so sick of having a blocked up nose now!
Good luck for your scan tomorrow! I have my 20week scan on Thursday (and a transvaginal scan again Confused ) although I did have all the measuring and checks done at 17weeks but still a bit nervous just incase!

Kits we are just getting a maxi cosi car seat for now as that's what is compatible with the pram we have bought, the shop through in the adapters for it when we bought the pram.

Kitsandkids · 14/02/2017 07:55

Why have you got to have a transvaginal, if you don't mind me asking? I had to have one when I had a bleed at 11 weeks. I was mortified! Ha ha!

No letter to tell me about the 20 week scan. We made the appointment at the 12 week and I've heard nothing since but I'm assuming it's still on!

DaisyQueen · 14/02/2017 08:19

Kits oh well that's reassuring. I'm gonna give hem a call and double check because the scan is tomorrow and just assumed I would get something through the post too

rhodes2015 · 14/02/2017 08:33

Kits, haha I was mortified too! I asked my bloody midwife if that's what the appointment was for and she said they wouldn't scan me! So don't so much mind stuff like that but I like to be prepared!! DH didn't know where to look Grin
The transvaginals are to measure my cervix as I've had 2 lletz treatments (had stage1a cervical cancer ages ago) but the treatment can cause short cervix or incompetent cervix but mine looked fine at 17weeks so hoping all will be ok at this one and I don't have to have it measured again!

Kitsandkids · 14/02/2017 09:04

Ah, I see! Good luck! Xx

Seahawk80 · 14/02/2017 09:34

Drew I had those exact pains at 16 weeks. I think it's just your uterus pushing things out of the way.

Good luck kits I know how you feel, I was so apprehensive. Are you finding out the sex? (Sorry if you already have and I've missed it)

No advice on car seats I'm afraid - I'm having one my sister is giving me!

I had a transvaginal at my 20 week yesterday to measure my cervix, be warned it is routine at some hospitals! It was optional but I've had loads because of pcos tests before I was pregnant and early bleeding, it's not the nicest thing but it's ok and now I know my cervix is all good. My friend and I call it dildo cam!

bluebird1235 · 14/02/2017 11:05

I have my 20 week scan on Friday (so excited/nervous!) and am also having a transvaginal scan to measure cervix length. They're doing a study on twin pregnancies in women with short cervixes and want to see if I can take part.

Re: letters - I got on about 20 week scan but never got one for my consultant appt which midwife made and noted in my notes. She said I would get a letter but never did. I rang up to check a few days before and it was a good job I did as the appt was in a completely different hospital!

Good luck to everyone with scans soon!

LuciBee231015 · 14/02/2017 11:32

I made the 20 week appointment at my 12 week scan and don't recall getting a letter for it, I just turned up!

Kits, Rhodes, Blue - good luck with your upcoming scans!

I've bought a group 1 car seat that will only last a certain amount of time, it came with the travel system I bought. My pram is compatible with maxicosi, cybex and another brand so will just buy the next one up when I need to.

I'm 22 weeks on Friday and starting to feel rather big! My belly is growing every week now and I'm noticing getting out of bed and up off the sofa is different.

Notyetthere · 14/02/2017 11:46

Daisy nope I didn't receive a letter. The appointment was made there and then at reception and that was that. I went with a full bladder but the sonographer advised me before the scan to empty it as it wasn't required.

OP posts:
thumbsupforthesixbillion · 14/02/2017 11:51

Luci I know exactly what you mean, I'll be 21 weeks on Friday and my centre of gravity has shifted, I feel totally unbalanced. I'm getting some huge vertical stretch marks right down the sides of my tummy too, if I didn't feel pregnant before I certainly do now!

DrewOB0 · 14/02/2017 11:52

Im back from appointment, different midwife today. We got to hear strong heartbeat and BP was much lower :)

DaisyQueen · 14/02/2017 12:12

Not I'm glad you don't need a full bladder for this one because last time appointments were running really late and I felt like I would explode! I'm so excited for tomorrow Smile

DaisyQueen · 14/02/2017 12:12

Great to hear Drew

LuciBee231015 · 14/02/2017 12:44

I didn't go into my 20 week scan with a full bladder either. I just carried on as normal but didn't pee beforehand.

Drew, sounds amazing and good that the BP had dropped.

Notyetthere · 14/02/2017 13:26

Drew glad all went well.

Dasiy sonographer had just started my scan and she could see that my bladder was full and that baby was head-butting it! She could see I was dying for the loo.

OP posts:
DaisyQueen · 14/02/2017 14:17

I am hoping this scan is alot more gentle than the last, my stomach hurt for hours after the 12 week scan.

glitterglitters · 14/02/2017 15:03

They can be quite rough can't they Daisy 😣

bluebird1235 · 14/02/2017 15:30

My letter says I need something in my bladder but not so much that I'm uncomfortable. Quite how you plan that when you need to pee every 5 mins I don't know!!

When I had my gender scan the lady was bouncing the probe up and down on my tummy trying to make them roll over!! They didn't look too concerted though...
