Goodness, Cat! Sounds like you need a day of crap telly.

Still haven't got the results of my quad test, but they said that high risk results would be phoned through in a week (which has passed), so I think I'm waiting for low risk results in the post. Starting to think this might actually happen!

17 weeks tomorrow, allegedly. We told everyone straight after my 12 week scan (which was actually at 12 weeks) last time!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 30/01/2017 10:34

Definitely have a day of rest now Cat, what a scary morning!

Has anybody started thinking about when to take maternity leave / annual leave yet? Having never done this before I really don't know when is best to go on leave! Also getting confused about how to stager things with DHs annual leave and paternity leave.

glitterglitters · 30/01/2017 11:16

I'm working right up till this one is born but I went on maternity at 30 weeks last time. I'm glad I did as I'd had enough of my job and it gave me time to just mooch and chill before our life was turned upside down.

Paternity leave is trickier for us as hubby is on a rota system that is 10 days on 4 days off. He also gets two weeks of full pay. He can wangle it so we gets almost a full month off (though he will need to go in for a day or two). It's good to plan it all early I think but have a back up on mind because you may want to go off earlier etc

LuciBee231015 · 30/01/2017 11:17

Thumbs, I'm going on maternity leave the week before my due date. I don't plan on taking any holiday this year if I can help it, so then I will add it all on to the end of my maternity leave.

glitterglitters · 30/01/2017 11:17

Oooh I should have said I work from home, for myself, so it's a lot easier for me to keep going and I get the most from maternity allowance then too. X

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 30/01/2017 11:45

I think I'll need to get in touch with HR before I make a somewhat plan, it's a bit more complicated as our annual leave year is switching from Jan-Dec in line with the financial year this year, hopefully that works in my favour! I quite like the idea of having a few weeks off so my gut feeling is to finish up at 38 weeks.

Spindelina · 30/01/2017 12:30

I think it depends on how physically demanding your job is (including the commute, and remembering that sitting still when heavily pregnant is physically demanding) and how flexible your workplace is.

My work is a pleasant half hour walk away; I sit at a desk but am not tied to it (can go for a stretch any time) and my work are very flexible - if I change my mind, changing my dates will be no problem. With that in mind, I plan to work up to the weekend before the Tuesday which is my official due date, which is 10 days before what I think my due date should be, and at least two weeks before I'm likely to actually give birth (all being well). I might take a few days' leave and do some four-day weeks if it's getting too much, but I want to save most of it to extend my leave by an extra month or so (NHS, so pretty generous allowance).

I'm already thinking about making sure that everything that I do can be done by somebody else, but that's a good idea anyway - you never know when you'll get hit by a bus!

rhodes2015 · 30/01/2017 13:29

Thumbs, I've got finishing at 38weeks in my head too at the moment. Think my work would be flexible if I wanted to bring forward/push back a week.

I've got barely any time off between now and then. Got 2days left of this years holidays then they start again on May 1st. So will save all new ones and add all the 5weeks to the end of my 39weeks mat leave.

Notyetthere · 30/01/2017 14:52

Cat glad you are ok. That must have been a worrying moment this morning.

Got a stinking cold, taken the day off to wallow in my misery watching re-runs of game of thrones under a blanket. In a cloud of nose blowing and tearing eyes, tywin Lannister had me in giggles, "Wed her. Bed her. And put a child in her." Looooool

As for maternity leave, I plan to have my maternity leave start on due date. I will take the last week before due date as annual leave and also hope to work from home most of June just to cut out the 1.15hrs commute.

DrewOB0 · 30/01/2017 15:27

How late would anyone go on a long haul flight? How much time would you agree to fly?

CatRash · 30/01/2017 15:57

Thanks everyone!! Yes it's been a tough morning but bleeding has pretty much stopped but still getting cramps.

No they didn't do a scan kits. If they couldn't have found the heartbeat then they would have but she said they don't have the best equipment in that particular ward. It would have been nice to see bubs again and find out a bit more about the bleed but I was just thankful I had a living baby still inside me.

Lallypopstick · 30/01/2017 18:46

My maternity plans are probably going to change - I have a new job (they don't know I'm pregnant yet as I've not started) and feel like I need to maybe have a shorter mat leave and share parental leave with OH. I'm not sure though, there's lots to sort out!

Lallypopstick · 30/01/2017 18:47

Glad to hear there was a heartbeat Cat - hope you start feeling better soon.

Mawita · 30/01/2017 19:24

Cat that's scary! Glad it was all ok. I had my 16week appoiment today. It was utterly rubbish, felt like I jumped on a conveyor belt and got chewed out. She gave me a ton of information on pamphlets in a hurry then told me not to take notes as she was writing it all down. When I looked at it I can't read it as her handwriting is awful, she then told me to go outside for my notes as she had no time for me. Basically kicked me out. She didn't weigh me or even looked at me. Then she called and left me a voicemail to say I had forgotten my lucozade....grrrr. I am so angry. Do you all think is too much to call and complain and ask for the appointment again?

bluebird1235 · 30/01/2017 19:47

Cat that sounds really frightening! I hope you're feeling better now.

Notyetthere · 30/01/2017 20:27

Mawita I wouldn't bother with another appointment. She comes across as rude and probably rushed through your appointment. If you read this thread back a few of us had uneventful midwife appointments. Did she test your urine? How about blood pressure?

The other thing that is several people didn't even have the heart beat listened to. My midwife offered it but also said she doesn't normally check at 16 weeks as sometimes they can't find it.

Most of us didn't get weighed at the 16wk appointment. Apparently it's to do with every woman will gain weight at different rates so actually no benchmark to measure us by. They would only weigh you if their were other concerns like sugar detected in your urine.

OP posts:
Seahawk80 · 30/01/2017 20:53

That sounds scary Cat I hope you feel better now. Seeing blood is always so scary x

Mawita · 31/01/2017 07:53

Thanks Not that makes sense. I might just call my GP with my questions. Have a nice day everyone!

LuciBee231015 · 31/01/2017 08:55

Cat, how are you today?

CatRash · 31/01/2017 14:12

Thanks for asking Luci. Still getting 'old blood' but it's very light although it was 'clotty' at around 2am (TMI). The cramps seem a lighter today too - either that or I'm just not noticing them as sooo busy at work!! Serves me right for having yesterday off I guess!

I just want the bleeding to stop now so I know all is OK!

LuciBee231015 · 31/01/2017 15:36

Glad it's easing off. When's your next midwife appointment or scan, do you have long to wait?

Suppose keeping busy at work helps you get through the day quicker and not sat thinking about it, so not all bad. Make sure you rest up when you get home!

Spindelina · 31/01/2017 16:48

I hope it all calms down soon, Cat.

I've just got my quad test results back - low risk. Hurrah! Will probably tell DD at the weekend, and let her announce it to the world.

16 week appt tomorrow, which will probably involve a fight discussion about my due date.

glitterglitters · 31/01/2017 17:08

What have you guys purchased so far? We kept most stuff from when we had dd and because we didn't find out most of its unisex. I have bought a new car seat (same as her first one), new crib mattress and treated myself to a brand new connecta carrier instead of just using the local sling library.

Notyetthere · 31/01/2017 19:45

Glitter so far we we bought;
a snuzpod off eBay.
Cocoonbaby off eBay
I picked up Aden+annais muslins from tk maxx.
Got a pack of 8 bodysuits from Asda baby event when I bought myself some comfy maternity clothes.
A couple of sleeping bags off eBay.
SIL has given us a baby bath and a few toys.
We are going to start putting nappies(not too many though) and wipes into our normal food shopping after the 20wk scan next week.
We already know what nursery furniture to get so we just need to prepare the nursery. DH is chomping at bits to start decorating the nursery but I'm more cautious and have asked him to start after the 20wk scan.
We don't know much about prams /car seats but on paper we like the uppababy vista so we will go play about with them next wk.

Basically we will start getting everything else after the 20wk scan.
