Hi all, we had our baby boy on 21 December, 8 days overdue. Anyone have any recovery tips for forceps birth SadBlush? Home today and we're a little terrified!

NurseRosie · 24/12/2016 00:22

Congrats Mistletoe and good luck for your first night at home .
Bonkers I hope you have a good night too. Hope you find a plan that works until the tongue tie can be sorted. I'm sure your DP was just stressed, we all say things in the heat if the moment.
Another good weight gain Dartmoor, well done. What are we going to do with all of our guzzling babies? Someone commented that my lo is starting to look like me now he's filling out. Wasn't sure how to take that Confused.

sueevone · 24/12/2016 00:47

Another one to add to the list. My LO arrived on his due date last Sunday 18th Dec after a quick delivery. Had a bjt of an issue establishing bf as we were separated a bit in the beginning due to me needing surgery after a tear. My supplies come in now so fingers crossed he keeps putting on weight. Never been so excited to see poo change colour!

Chookchick · 24/12/2016 04:54

Hello all,

Flowers for all those still playing the waiting game.

Some more Flowers for those of you struggling with feeding.

Rory was born 14th Dec, 8lb 8oz, healthy and happy! My milk took ages to come in and he's a sleepy LAZY boy, so after initial weight loss I've been on a strict punishing feeding regime. All this time my stitches had come out and sprained all the muscles in my chest pushing LO into the world. I've spent the last week shuffling about like an old woman. I'm only just starting to feel human again. Rory is a little character though and don't regret for a minute!

My labour was brought on by an 'unfavourable' sweep attempt, so don't give up ladies!

What a cutie chook! Sounds really tough bonkers , I hope you and your partner make it up soon.
I'm also joining the overdue and fed up camp - 2 days of mild contractions that don't go anywhere and not being able to sleep - Id even take a Christmas Day baby right now just to meet my baby and be able to send a different response to all of the 'any signs...?' Text messages!

PlumpAndPlain · 24/12/2016 10:36

Hi all - baby girl born on 21st following planned section. Huge surprise as I was convinced she was a boy and after being told all the way through that she was a big baby, she was only 7lb 9oz. She seems tiny after 2 9lbers!

This was my 3rd section and recovery has been the best so far and breastfeeding is going well after struggling with previous babies. So we're feeling pretty awesome in the plump household at the minute.

Only difficulty is the toddler who is really struggling with the changes! He wants nothing to do with the baby and keeps shouting at me to put her down. I'm hoping he comes round after Christmas when we are back into his normal routine.

stripeyorangesocks71 · 24/12/2016 12:01

Congratulations on all the new arrivals Flowers hope you all recover well and have a nice Christmas!

Londonmamabychance · 24/12/2016 14:44

Congrats on all the arrivals! Wonderful!

Sorry for those of you still waiting, here's to babies staying inside until Monday and for m you to enjoy Christmas!

Bonkers I'm sorry that sounds so tough. Having a newborn is really tough and especially one that chess a lot and is difficult to settle! People say the worst things in the heat of the moment. I know Uranus easier said than down but this newborn phase is just a phase, it will pass and once the tongue tie has been fixed hopefully things will get better. In trend meantime, try to get rest when you can and remember this time will pass!

I'm in a right mood as ice for infected stitches and they've come
Out. I'm in so much pain and just lying in bed right now while DH has Taken DD to the park and mymparents are cooking Christmas dinner! (We are Scandinavian so celebrating tonight). Doctor put me on antibiotics yesterday but still isn't helping. On topmof it my engirgement is still out of control and have to go and massage the blocked milk ducts in the shower every 3 hours min. Also have an electric pump but that DK's f seem to be doing much. Just want to enjoy Christmas and be on my feet!

On plus side the midwife came yesterday and baby had gained 200 grams since being born 6 days ago! Smile guess the engorgwmwnt is good for something.

unashamed offloading rant coming up. Anyone else getting too many visitors? We had twins on the 1st, the nights are horrific patchy and we are exhausted. We always intend to try to grab an hour in the daytime, but not a day has gone by when some bastard family member has dropped round to coo at the babies for hours. I have thoroughly reached breaking point with it. I wish they would all fuck off and leave us alone!! Happy christmas all xx

StubbleTurnips · 24/12/2016 19:43

double I would be learning to say no ASAP. I learnt this lesson first time round, this time I have prepped people by saying if you drop in you won't be welcome plus bitch face helps. That, sleep deprivation and BF'ing is what tipped me over the edge.

Merry Christmas all. Sorry to those that are overdue.
long post sorry
Feeling a bit deflated today since coming home Wednesday we have had the midwife come every day who has told us different things. Baby rain has lost a total of only 10.4% of her birth weight which they are not happy with however she is a very sleepy baby. She sleeps for pretty much 23hours a day and will not wake for a feed so I have been finding bf very difficult because she has been doing it in her sleep and will not wake for a feed on her own. So I have been pumping/expressing every 3 hours and only getting at most 25mls which I then syringe into her mouth as she sleeps. One midwife told me this was okay however the midwife today had a right go at me and told me that i have 48hours to get her weight up or we will be admitted and to not syringe it in so I have now given up and expressing the milk into a bottle which I am also having to give her while she sleeps. I try everything to wake her up but she is just a sleepy baby. In all other ways she is health she is lovely and pink alert when awake etc.
I feel like such a crap mum right now it's awful.

Thisisbonkers · 24/12/2016 22:39

Oh rainfall, some midwives have no empathy at all. The one coming to reweigh on Monday isn't pleasant.

double I've had to tell my dad to stop turning up unannounced. Everyone else has kept a respectful distance to the point it's nice when people do visit.

Today has been much better. DP and I are back on speaking terms and we've had a good day. Baby has maintained his weight and has eaten lots today 🙂

Londonmamabychance · 24/12/2016 22:41

Oh Rain poor you! Don't feel bad, sounds like you're doing everything you possibly can to make your baby put on weight! Some babies are just sleepy and bf'ing can be difficult! Obviously I'm no expert and I haven't been in your situation, but my general experience with midwifes and general advice Is that they tend to stick rigidly to rules ignoring how the average baby should be and babies are just different! Really hope you feel a bit better and that baby picks up weight soon and midwives will be more understanding Flowers

Londonmamabychance · 24/12/2016 22:42

About not ignoring!

cnchapmanxx · 24/12/2016 23:21

Hi all!
So I was due yesterday and midwife couldn't do a sweep as baby was so far back and not even engaged. So I was upset and crying and then just watched Christmas films all nihhh with DH,
Wake up this morning about 8.30 stood up did a little fart sorry and it was so wet.
Went to the toilet, mucus plug came away, waters went half an hour later, fully dilated by 11 and had my beautiful baby girl by 13.38 weighing a whopping 9lb 12oz.
Evelyn Francesca Rosa Chapman xx

Had a forceps delivery at the end as baby was facing the side and got stuck. Epidural was the best no pain whatsoever. Merry Christmas to everyone and anyone overdue hopefully your little bundles of joy will be here soon xxx

Popskipiekin · 25/12/2016 04:03

cnc she is delicious!! Congratulations.

rain baby pops (DS2) had lost nearly 12% of his birthweight by day 5 which was a complete shock for me as bf felt it was going well and DS1 never lost an ounce. So we had the midwives out in force threatening formula top ups and hospital admition etc. Felt awful and got at. They came 48hrs later to re weigh and he was almost back up to birthweight again. Little bugger just playing about :) hope yours is the same.

Bigfam · 25/12/2016 04:36

Congratulations Chapman She's gorgeous.
rain you're definitely not a crap mum, it's amazing that you're doing everything you can to help with baby's weight gain.

double I think in your situation I'd post a festive note on the front door.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS
BUT PLEASE BUGGER OFF" Xmas Grin

NurseRosie · 25/12/2016 05:16

Double, don't answer the door. Keep them locked and pretend you aren't in.
London, infected stitches and engorgment! You poor love. Please rest and look after yourself. Well done on the weight gain.
Have you tried stripping her to wake her Rainfall. That would also give skin to skin which is good. I used a syringe at times with ds and it worked fine. Surely it's s good thing as you know baby is taking something. Could you cup feed instead? Have you thought about topping up with formula, did midwife suggest that to you? I know its prob something you don't want but could prevent admission and only for a short time. It's useless when professionals contradict each other. You are doing really well, please don't be down on yourself.
Glad things are looking up Bonkers.
Congrats Chapman. Baby Evelyn us lovely. Well done. You did really well having get so quickly. No wonder far got stuck and that weight.
I'm laid here at 5.15, feeding dear son and thinking how lucky I am. However, I can hear a dog barking, how inconsiderate at this time!
Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you all have wonderful days and we don't have any arrivals x

Chookchick · 25/12/2016 07:53

Rain this is exactly what happened to us. 11.4% at first weigh in- a total shock! How do you know what your boob is doing. We went to waking LO every 3 hours, fed from one boob and syringes expressed from the other, poor boobs really struggled. I was only able to get 15ml per feed. Emergency pre mixed formula was bought (but only used it when I was totally dry, maybe 50ml in total). We Often spent an hour trying to wake LO, stripping, blowing, putting LO cold surfaces- felt like child abuse. Google- there are lots of threads with ideas to wake sleepy babies.

Second weigh in he has gained only 50g in 48 hours. Similar conversation threats from midwife.

We were told to go to two hour feeds and to ditch syringes for bottles as we should be on 30ml per feed. I explained my boobs weren't keeping up. Midwife was like 'bothered'. I was distraught.

Thank fully expressing paid off and my volumes finally increased a little. LO has was able to swop between bottle and boob and doesn't seem to have nipple confusion.

Third weigh in he increased by 200g to 4.8%!! We were lucky. I've since found out some close friends had the same sleepy baby with lack of milk, it took them two weeks of weigh in's before midwifes were happy with weight. Bless 'em.

I nearly gave up several times, I'm glad I stuck with it Rain. However everyone is different, you know you and your baby best, you do what you feel right. We were lucky, I think if he hadn't gained on that third weigh in I would have swopped to formula, I just knew I'd given my best shot.
Good luck Rain, let me know how you get on xxx

Merry Christmas to you all! Grin

I'm keeping my legs shut today and have had kind words with my bump to not appear today (I'm 41 weeks).

StubbleTurnips · 25/12/2016 08:45

Congrats to new babies Flowers

I too am keeping still in case this baby decides to move!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope all the overdue babies let you finish your Christmas dinners!

OrianaBanana · 25/12/2016 17:08

Just to update the list, baby Banana was born on 20th December after a textbook labour with gas and air. Baby was fine, I had a lot of blood loss with retained membranes and ended up in theatre where I was 'cleared out', stitched up and given transfusions. I then had an infection, they took baby away to give antibiotics as a precautionary measure and then decided they would keep her in NICU and not give her back which has been upsetting to say the least. Various issues. An infection, jaundice, high hb levels and fluctuating glucose. None of her issues seem too serious thank God but taken together it's a delicate balancing act of treatments that they're trying to sort. She has catheters and monitors everywhere, a feeding tube and she's under a lamp. Current estimates are that all being well she could be out Tues but it might well be longer.
