Congrats pops what a gorgeous bambino! Love the name Flowers

Good luck fizzy!!

duxb the nights suck but it's generally the first 6/8 weeks I think then they get into a routine, well ds1 did. Either way the old mantra "fed is best" is what matters, not how you do it.

I'm currently dozing with ds2 on my chest, he's been on and off the boob for the last hour, ds1 snoring next to me and whatever rubbish film my DH is watching creeping up through the floorboards, git!

duxb · 17/12/2016 00:38

Congratulations pop

I wouldn't mind the waking up / relentless feeding. It's the fact that at night, she won't go down at all! Screams bloody murder as soon as she is placed in her snuzpod. She will sleep in my arms , propped up against a breastfeeding pillow etc but nowhere else. It's dangerous - a week of feeling myself jerk myself from falling asleep.

Only time she's slept is off 2oz formula. Expressing breast milk so we know she's full was one of our hopes but that doesn't seem to be the case as my husband gave her a bottle of it at 10.30 in the hope I could grab an hour or so and instead I've been in her nursety, sat upright in a chair feeding her practically since.

DartmoorDoughnut · 17/12/2016 00:49

Sadly duxb that's generally just what they do, formula or otherwise, I'd look into safe co-sleeping and maybe get that set up so you get some proper sleep? I love it, but with my first I hadn't looked into it so felt EXACTLY the same as you, I was so worried about crushing him/rolling over etc etc and was a sleepless mess, DS1 normally sleeps in his own bed now - has regressed this week with the arrival of DS2 bless him, he needs extra cuddles! - so no "rod for your own back" bollocks.

Seriously though you need sleep so get it however you can, if formula works for you do it, if co-sleeping does that's awesome too. Your mantra is "whatever works"!!

SolomanDaisy · 17/12/2016 00:59

duxb, I am currently lying in exactly that position with DD. She will sleep a bit in the bedside cot, but not for long stretches. Her brother was the same, we coslept in the end and he's asleep beside me. He's five!!

StubbleTurnips · 17/12/2016 03:07

duxb chin up, it does get easier. It is hard work x

Sounds like a film pops (your waters breaking during a shopping trip) she's beautiful & in absolutely LOVE that name, how unique but gorgeous! Hope you're OK after that scare.

duxb I think most babies are the same at night whether breast or formula fed, but you've got to do what's best for you both. I'm formula feeding and I've done the jerking myself awake while she's feeding thing a few times since she's been born, it's bloody scary but is probably more common than you think (we can't be the only ones) don't fret over it, your doing your very best and although soooo rewarding, looking after a newborn is also torture at times. I also Co-slept with all of my other dc, Dd3 is asleep next to me now while I feed the baby, if it's something you want to try, I agree with pp, look into the safest possible way of doing so and decide from there if it's right for you. Sorry for the marathon post! Lastly, big hugs! X

Bigfam · 17/12/2016 04:22

*in-i
*your-you're
Damn you tired brain!

Just to add, one thing about formula feeding is you can't dream feed. You have to wind them until they bring it up or baby won't sleep.

AppleMagic · 17/12/2016 05:23

duxb my dc2 would only sleep on my chest as a newborn. He was super gripy and windy. He matured out of it at 12 weeks or so and from then on was a great sleeper so all is not lost. I find watching a good series on the iPad helps with the frustration of night feeds. Dc3 will sleep in his crib if he's swaddled really tight and the head end is slightly raised so that's worth a try too.

Dc3 is rapidly gaining weight now which makes the round the clock feeding seem worth it. Gained 1lb 1oz in a week! It's odd to think I should be being induced tomorrow (at 39 weeks) but he's actually already been out a month.

Bumbleclat · 17/12/2016 06:06

Congratulations pops

I am 39+ 3 today and had some red pin prick sized blood spots on the tissue this morning after going for a a wee, I have the mildest of cramps so probably nothing but I've never read pin prick sized blood spots as a symptom of early labour... Anyone?! clutching at straws

Nuttypops · 17/12/2016 07:49

Congratulations pops!

Fizzyjo · 17/12/2016 08:13

Still here! Contractions almost stopped after hospital trip and now back to every 20 mins ish so have to wait it out at home until either more intense or gets near 5pm and they will start induction and antibiotics as waters went. Anyone had similar situation being induced when in some form of labour?

Nuttypops · 17/12/2016 08:56

Fizzy, yes, I was put on the induction drip during both labours after things slowed down in my first, and completely stopped in my second. I was 6cm dilated by that point with my first, and 9cm with my second.

It meant things sped up a bit more than I had anticipated, but with pain relief it was fine and I was glad they did it as I was tired and just wanted baby there by that point. The fact you have started yourself means you have a good chance of things starting up again later on hopefully. Get some sleep today if you can.

Fizzyjo · 17/12/2016 09:03

Thanks. I was hoping it was a positive thing that i am contracting already!

Good luck Fizzyjo!

Pops - wow that was quick!

Duxb I really sympathise. I'm going to be honest and say I don't really enjoy the newborn phase. It's exhausting and the nights are a killer. With DD1 I persisted for weeks trying to get DD to sleep in her moses basket and she wasn't having it. Would wake the second I put her down. I was terrified of co-sleeping but in the end it was co-sleep or no sleep for either of us. There are some safe co-sleeping guidelines produced by NCT which you may find helpful:

www.nct.org.uk/parenting/co-sleeping-safely-your-baby

I've also read before that actually re: SIDS risk the vast majority of cases involving parents smothering their babies have been in situations where either drugs or alcohol have been consumed by the parent and outside of these cases the difference in number of SIDS deaths between co-sleeping babies and babies in the cribs is actually very small (some info here):

kellymom.com/parenting/nighttime/cosleeping/

So far DD2 is better than DD1 at sleeping in her basket, but I've had to so-sleep a few times for my sanity.

Nojo82 · 17/12/2016 10:55

Cant believe how many babies we have.. Doesn't seem like that long ago we were discussing 20 week scans..

Im currently lying down, ive had 1 kick since I got up an hour ago. Had a lie in as i was awake for 3 hrs during the night, had only a few flutters then too.. so im trying to get baby to move, had something to eat and drink and he just moved there as im typing.. Im petrified of something happening to him. 39 weeks tomorrow.

Congratulations pop..

Minispringroll · 17/12/2016 14:29

Congratulations, pop. Flowers

41 weeks tomorrow. My cold is really irritating now and I hate coughing because it just hurts. As if that weren't enough, the squirmy one continues to live up to his title and just continues to have a party inside me. My stomach feels like it's all baby. I've taken some of the smaller sleepsuits out of the hospital bag and replaced them with the "up to 1 month" ones, so we should be ok with up to 10 pounds.

Nojo hope you are getting some movement soon. We had a quiet day earlier in the week and I nearly rang the MLU, but then he made up for that again at night...not really been quiet anymore since. (The last "quiet day" before that was when I was about 33 weeks...)

Azure83 · 17/12/2016 14:57

Congratulations popski! So jealous of all these babies turning up and lovely birth stories!

I'm still here, 41+5!!! It's been a week of sweeps, sex and spicy food (so hot DH couldn't handle it) and still nothing. I've got a scan booked for Monday and provisionally agreed to induction on Mon night. The birth centre option will be out of the window by Sunday anyway but I'm terrified the induction will kick off every intervention known to modern medicine. On the other hand I'm not sure I'm brave enough to go with daily monitoring and management for too long.. This boy already has a mind of his own!

Nojo82 · 17/12/2016 15:35

Yes ive got plenty of movement now thank god. These babies really know how to scare us..

TinyTickler · 17/12/2016 15:45

Well I'm off to the PAU at 6 as I've had a couple of incidents of damp knickers which Mayor may not be my waters going. Only he mildest of cramping and no other signs so thoroughly preparing to be old ice just started spontaneously peeing myself Hmm

Lovewatchingrainfall · 17/12/2016 16:14

Azure you must be shattered and so fed up.

StubbleTurnips · 17/12/2016 17:38

NurseRosie · 17/12/2016 18:32

Found the new thread. Good to get am update and catch up on all of the lovely new born babies.
My little man is 5 weeks old tomorrow, can't believe it.
Just wondering if anyone has tried the safe swaddle pouches/blankets. My boy doesn't like to go down at all but will settle if swaddled, I've tried with a blanket but aware it's not the safest. We are currently co sleeping as he hates the co sleeper crib and I won't swaddle over night. He sleeps well when in my bed but not a habit I want to continue. I can see we aren't alone with these probs and wondering whats been tried before.
Good luck to those still waiting x x

duxb · 17/12/2016 18:50

KitKat & everyone else, thankyou for the support and advice. It's a huge learing curve and in the middle of the night everything feels more desperate. We are getting through a night at a time - albeit a huge struggle with lots of tears.

We will find our own way, it's just finding it.

Sorry to all you ladies waiting, especially those overdue. Ruby arrived at term plus 13 so you have my sympathy. Induction for me did lead to all manner of things - however there were woman on my induction ward who had the pessary and off they went, so it isn't inevitable
