Been away for 2 weeks and just catching up on our threads 4 & 5! Exciting!

For those who were getting headaches, you could try Floradix? My midwife said my blood levels were a little low though not bad enough to need iron tablets yet and that the Floradix might help headaches and tiredness. It has helped the headaches anyway!

I have got a horrible outbreak of spots across my chest, shoulders and back , which was NOT a good look in the sunshine! Where is this glow they speak of?!

Hope you ladies are all keeping well x

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 09/12/2016 14:28

Raspberry do you really need one? I didn't for my first baby and didn't miss it for a second. They all seem rather bulky and a pain, I had a foldable matt and would just bung whatever I needed for the outing in whichever bag I was carrying (backpack, a canvas shopper or even directly at the bottom of the pushchair).

I would suggest hold off worrying about it until you need it.

savagehk · 09/12/2016 14:38

I wanted a backpack style one so went with this last time.
To be honest, you don't really need a dedicated change bag, you do need a mat (which is included in the one I linked to) and a waterproof wet bag was useful for us as we used reusable nappies (but you can buy these on their own too). I do like things 'compartmentalised' so this one did work for me, and I think I'm glad I did have a dedicated baby bag - noting, however, that I'm not normally a handbag type of girl so this was my only bag when I was going out with baby.

lullaby23 · 09/12/2016 14:48

I had a changing bag but found it too bulky, fiddly to unclip and I could never find anything as there were too many pockets for my liking. I now use a normal largeish long handled handbag which has an external zip pocket facing me when pushing the pram for easy access to keys and phone etc. Everything else bunged inside but nappies and wipes are segregated in one of these.

savagehk · 09/12/2016 15:00

Should be worth noting we didn't use the pram much at all anyway so matching wasn't an issue - and I suppose it is useful having a dedicated change bag if someone else is going to nip out with the baby other than you (eg your OH).

Autumnsweater · 09/12/2016 15:20

I plan on using a rucksack, something DH will use as well.

Am totally baffled by the insane choice of prams and the prices of them. Is there a reason I will need a pram in the first few months rather than the sling/car seat/Moses basket? Dog walks and shopping I would have thought a sling easier. I get that when bigger/wrigglier a pushchair will be required.

savagehk · 09/12/2016 15:25

Autumn if you're not sure on the pram my advice would be to wait, otherwise it could be an expensive waste of money. We didn't get a pushchair until he was 2.5 (!) until then it was sling (or later walking). We still sling him now occasionally & he's almost 4 - it's much more convenient than a pushchair in uneven terrain or in crowds (like the fireworks display for bonfire night, last time he was slung!). A sling was also way more convenient on public transport than a pram IMO.

EsmesBees · 09/12/2016 15:29

Thanks for the new thread!

I had a grey pacapod changing bag. It was my maternity leave present from work. The bag itself I didn't like. It was annoying having it dangling over the pram handles and it was bulky. However the two little pods (one for changing, one for milk/food) are great and I still use every day (chucked into the bottom of the buggy). Howver rather than paying ££ you could just buy a small cool bag and a small bag for your nappies.

EsmesBees · 09/12/2016 15:33

It depends where you live autumn. My friends just used a sling but they lived pretty rurally and drove everywhere. We live in London and rely on walking/buses. So for trips to the supermarket etc we definitely needed the pram to get both shopping and baby home. For short hops where we didn't need much stuff, I would often just use the sling though.

RasperryInAMelon · 09/12/2016 15:43

I don't really use a handbag - I'm more of a clutch kinda person so I do need something to put stuff in.

I wanted something that was neutral rather than girly or patterned... means DH has no reason not to carry it if needed Wink

Streaky17 · 09/12/2016 15:44

Sorry jonsnow I've been moved forward a whole week (not sure how - i was temping so know when i ovulated) and I'm never going to get there I'll be induced around 36-37weeks if we get there.

We haven't decided on prams or anything yet. We were a bit (understatement) overwhelmed in mother care the other day.

CinnamonTwist · 09/12/2016 15:46

KLane where did you hear that the prices will be going up? I was hoping to maybe get one in January sales... ConfusedSad

CinnamonTwist · 09/12/2016 15:51

Raspberry I've only had a brief look and been shocked how expensive they are for what you get. All of the more reasonable priced ones I have showed to DH have been met with a 'that looks horrible' so I have given up so far. I decided there's lots of time for smaller things like that and I'll leave it and see if I see something nice while out and about.

RasperryInAMelon · 09/12/2016 16:00

Cinnamon DH has been the same, the link I posted for the £100+ one is a bag he chose and is happy with... I've told him he can bloody pay for it!

Here's a question... someone asked me if DH is getting me nice a 'push present' to me the other day... I always thought an eternity ring was the done / traditional thing, but apparently not so much these days... those who already have DC, did you get anything and those who this is your first, are you expecting anything?

Be interesting to see what people say!

Sipperskipper · 09/12/2016 16:53

raspberry push present?! Sounds bizarre! Surely the present is a baby? I always find the concept of these sorts of things odd anyway, (baby showers, hen weekends) but maybe I'm just miserable!

savagehk · 09/12/2016 18:06

No push present here.

Rabbitykins55 · 09/12/2016 18:13

I don't think I'm going to bother with a specific changing bag. I think we'll get a messenger style bag and a folding mat.

No presents here either, although I have requested a dominos and pate with warm ciabatta as soon as we are home from the hospital! Grin

1004Rise · 09/12/2016 18:20

Can someone add me, on phone so copy pasting isn't working! #1 due on the 17th May

I've heard of presents when you give birth but never heard them called push presents.

As for changing bags we'll probably end up with yet another North Face messenger bag, cheaper and more durable and no arguments about it looking ugly from DHWink

RasperryInAMelon · 09/12/2016 18:24

As I say, I'd heard of perhaps an eternity ring and it turns out DH had already been thinking of it anyway bless him.

I have however said that I don't really want anymore rings, I'm too in love with my engagement and wedding rings that I don't want any others - to which I was told, oh ok - perhaps I could get you the Mulberry handbag you've wanted for so long!

Don't know if I can argue with that...
