lullaby23 · 10/12/2016 01:41

I had a caesarean so don't think I qualified for a push present? Grin I do hate that term though, ugh. As it happened I was talking to DH about eternity rings and said I'd like one maybe for our 5th wedding anniversary which is this year but he bought one for my birthday last year a few months after DS was born. It's lovely with sapphires, oh and raspberry I wear it on my right hand so it doesn't interfere with my other rings!

RasperryInAMelon · 10/12/2016 04:45

Can't sleep... was just looking at the notes from my private scan and she's marked that I have an anterior placenta.

Not a term I was familiar with, but having read a little, it seems it comes with its own associated risks... anyone else in the same boat?

Streaky17 · 10/12/2016 07:13

raspberry I do. But I didn't find anything too worrying while googling it. Its a legitimate place for the placenta to form but it will cushion movements for a bit longer. And even if it is low at the moment it should rise as the uterus expands - mine extended quite low. Try not to worry...

Has anyone misjudged their bump size yet? I full on hit someone trying to get through a crowded pub. It was so embarrassing but it didn't hurt so hopefully no damage done and the guy didn't spill his drink!

WishIWasSleeping · 10/12/2016 07:38

Savage- what sling do you have that still works comfortably at 4?
Esme - I have that bag too as hubby liked it. Do you not use the clips that sit on your frame? Mine always gets in the way if I don't, plus it keeps the basket free on the pushchair.
I always had a handbag, but just put my stuff in one of the sections of the changing bag. Found I didn't need half the stuff I carried around!
We also did the 'ring' test and comments on my bump last time 'confirmed' my daughter was a boy. I had no idea. Hubby called it 'him' so I called it 'her' to even it out!
Love my wayfarer- wanted to use it for 'all' my babies, didn't anticipate only 16m between the 2! Think we quite like the donkey, although the name is awful. Apparently it was going to be called the spider so I'm glad it wasn't!
A push present was mentioned in our house many times (by a lot of family) but other than a bunch of flowers it didn't materialise! I'm not too bothered. Smile
I didn't want to make my thread really long (again) so won't post the whole list, but I'm
WishIWasSleeping #2, Due 11th May - S

Sipperskipper · 10/12/2016 07:45

Twinges- I've had quite sharp pains (like a stitch) on both sides of my abdomen when out walking. Think its ligament pain. Mine isn't there at rest though.

mightymouse76 · 10/12/2016 08:05

barnes how are you feeling this morning?

savagehk · 10/12/2016 08:07

rasperry there's nothing wrong with an anterior placenta, just means it's at the front so you may not feel as much movement early on. I had one last pregnancy. If it were lower down it'd be placenta praevia (?) not simply anterior. If you're worried about bleeding or it being in the way for delivery or for a c-sec don't be - all that happens really low down on your bump and I expect it'd be flagged in your notes as placenta praevia rather than anterior. If they do flag your placenta as being low down at the 20 week scan they normally book you in for another scan as most of the time it moves out the way anyway, but if not they'll need to want to be sure before you deliver.

wishIwas we have a toddler-sized solarweave connecta. To be fair I don't find it overly comfortable as ideally I need petite straps but it works for hubby and me for short distances, and it packs really small so easy to take along in case of emergency :) I have a much more padded wompat with petite straps if it's just me doing the carrying, but it's probably a little on the small side now - it was only a 'medium' so not a preschool size.

savagehk · 10/12/2016 08:13

Worth adding that people who 'wrap' rather than use a carrier can also wrap comfortably until kids are quite old. I did try wrapping but then found the wompat - most of the ways you tie a wrap dug into my shoulders. I found one method which was better but before I perfected it found the wompat which was just easier :)

We had a stretchy from birth (which was fantastic), then bought a baby-sized solarweave connecta (lightweight, easily packable, and good for hot weather or holidays!), then the toddler-sized solarweave when we outgrew that one plus the wompat for me.

Mighty - no twinges yet but I've only been awake an hour Blush. I did notice the right side of my abdo was a little sore this morning when I pressed it, but I sleep on my left so it could just be ligaments complaining (and I don't normally press my abdo in the morning so don't know if it's unusual for me or not).

I must admit, I'm not sure I'm enjoying the whole "pregnancy" thing. Too many aches and pains and worrying moments for my liking. Plus I'm a really impatient person so the time seems to be dragging. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end though...Smile

EsmesBees · 10/12/2016 08:28

The clips on ours snapped really early on Sleeping. I wasn't impressed with that bit of the design.

raspberry loads of women have an anterior placenta at this stage. In the vast majority of cases they move. You'll probably get an extra scan later on to check she has moved. Happened to me last time and I got an amazing extra scan (called a Doppler scan) where you get to see the flow of blood to the placenta. It was amazing.

jennymac31 · 10/12/2016 08:47

I'm probably going to use the 'tomy 3-in-1 changing bag', as it was quite compact but had lots of compartments including a nifty changing mat plus it turned into a booster seat that can be strapped onto a high chair or seat when you're out and about. As I used a baby carrier for most of my dd's first year, it was nice to not have to carry a bulky changing bag.

mightymouse76 · 10/12/2016 10:05

Barnes I couldn't agree more!! Weirdest, most confusing experience ever. I still feel sodding sick too! No evening meals here. 17 weeks tomorrow and I've almost resigned myself to another 5 months of nausea- maybe this is my new normal! Confused Upside being if I can hold my shit together through this, by god I'd make the most of feeling fit again after..Life!! Let me at it!!!
Glad your twinges are calming down. I think raspberry's midwife advice echoed mine- try resting if you can and they should ease up a bit if it is ligaments

Autumnsweater · 10/12/2016 10:16

savage thanks for that really good to know, wasn't sure if I was being mad not wanting to rush into pram! Good suggestions too I'll look into them.

Esme ah that makes sense, we are also quite rural which must be why I'm imagining more sling use.

Barnes I've had lots of intermittent twinges lower abdomen for at least the past four weeks. Gets worse when I do too much (I keep forgetting as I feel fine while I'm doing it, but regret it afterwards). Think is combination if ligament pain and poss a bit of abdominal muscle pain when I lift things bi shouldn't!

crazyzooo · 10/12/2016 12:34

Have been doing a bit of pram research and tried to discuss with my OH in the car today... When I told him the prizes, I was told I was wrong.. "Wrong?!", I said. "On what basis can you tell me I am wrong?". Apparently it is a ridiculous amount of money for what it is and therefore I am clearly looking in the wrong places... Oh good. He is in for such a rude awakening...!!

RedBlu · 10/12/2016 13:01

I am due 22nd May!

Anyone know what I can take for a cold, it's awful!!

savagehk · 10/12/2016 13:53

Tell him to go shop crazy :) but yes, some prices are ridiculous. Looking in different places isn't going to help though!

Barnes79 · 10/12/2016 15:03

I managed to get my DH to John Lewis for a brief look at prams. The thing that shocked him (and me a bit) was the weight of the things! The bugaboo weighed a ton and the silver cross was only a little better - I'd struggle to lift them without a baby in them! The oyster and baby joggers were much lighter. Still think I blew his head a bit with all the options and things to consider...

lucieloos · 10/12/2016 15:14

Oh ladies I'm going nuts trying to find maternity clothes! I have hardly anything left to wear but still haven't found anything! I hate internet shopping for clothes but no shops hold any stock. Ideally would like some things to wear with leggings. Anyone picked up anything nice? I need some inspiration please!

PeachIcedT · 10/12/2016 15:32

Lucie I have bought two things only - maternity jeggings and maternity trousers. Both overbump from Seraphine. Good quality but pricey, and I found I had to go a size down from usual despite their advice, I think because so stretchy. I couldn't find anything much in shops so went with two basics from online to wear with some of my baggier tops.

PeachIcedT · 10/12/2016 15:33

I also found UniQlo non-maternity dresses are baggy enough to do the job for quite a while so that's a cheaper option

savagehk · 10/12/2016 16:04

If your tops are baggy or stretchy enough you may be able to get by for a bit yet using a bump band combined with the hair band trick to keep your trousers from falling down :)

savagehk · 10/12/2016 16:06

And for tops, if you buy a few basic t-shirts or vests you can layer with a wrap jersey or cardigan (without buttoning up if necessary). Last pregnancy i was certainly warmer than normal so layering is the way to go.
