My sister just gave me all her old maternity clothes which has hopefully saved me some cash. Can't believe I'll be big enough to need some of them!

Notyetthere · 02/01/2017 22:08

Spin I know it is an investment but I have had to adjust my thinking drastically. At the beginning of our ttc journey, we discussed buying off eBay and restoring the nursery furniture but with time, I have been bombarded with lovely (very expensive) baby related items that I feel myself slowly being suckered into buying new. Or thinking of buying new. I don't how I will survive the next 6 months without blowing the budget. It's all in my head but I worry I will cross over to the other side and actually spend it.

But that is one pretty cotbed...

Not have you tried putting it all down in a budget spreadsheet? That really reigned me back in from spiralling (hypothetical) spending.

Bawbles · 02/01/2017 22:57

spin I bought a work dress from Vertbaudet, it's nice and doesn't look 'maternity' at all.

not is second making a list or spreadsheet. For dd I bought very lovely things, some was a great investment (a lovely solid wooden chest of drawers, the bugaboo etc) other stuff in hindsight was daft. I spent £50 on a playmat that she would lie on, £120 on a carrier that was used once, daft stuff. I'll buy a second hand play mat and jumperoo this time as they really aren't used long enough to warrant the expense plus baby might hate them

Read lots of reviews before making any big purchases.

This time around I'm in a stronger position financially but will spend less as I'm getting tighter with age.

I'd definitely advocate spending more on things that are classic and will last - dd bedroom drawers cost around £350 but are ten years old and still look good after daily use. We didn't get the cot from the same range but got a 'matching' white cot from kiddicare much cheaper, it got used for two years then resold on. She did then have a lovely handmade bed with truckle as I felt that would get used for many more years and be worth it.

Bawbles · 02/01/2017 22:58

That should read that she wouldn't lie on the playmat - wanted to he held constantly which was lovely but tiring

CatRash · 03/01/2017 08:13

I might have to check out the Vertbaudet sale...

After a week off and having already cleared out all my tighter clothes out the wardrobe I put on a pair of work trousers only to have to reject them too :(

The pair I now have on feel pretty tight also and not sure if I can last all day in them. Aghhhhh why are work trousers so unforgiving??!

It times like this I wish I wore dresses to work. However not having worn a dress in 10+ years I think it might just get noticed and everyone will click on straight away!!! Just under two weeks till my first scan and I cannot wait just to let it all out in the open so I can start wearing baggy clothes!!!

Notyetthere · 03/01/2017 09:33

cat you might have to open the top button by the end of the day. I normally wake with a flat tummy but by 4pm I look 6 months pregnant. The bloat/gas build up during the day is something else! luckily for me I have always worn dresses to work so no change there.

I won't(officially ) announce it at work. I will let them just work it out by themselves. Some people know so I will allow it to just slowly spread in our team.

Just bought a Love Your Bump Belly Beltfor £15 which will hopefully solve all my clothing issues.

I have also changed trousers again to the loosest pair I own Blush

Ml1091 · 03/01/2017 10:12

Hi, I'm new to this thread.

I am due 19th July. This will be my second pregnancy (after mmc in June)

I have my 12 week scan 5th Jan. I'm so worried. I already cant sleep.

I hope everything is going well for you

suntraveller · 03/01/2017 13:13

11+1 and with some bleeding/backache last night, then a night of tossing and turning with all sorts of things going around, I'm booked in for an early scan tomorrow morning,a week earlier then planned Confused

LuciBee231015 · 03/01/2017 13:17

Ml1091 - welcome and congrats 😊

I couldn't sleep the entire week before my 12 weeks scan, that's totally normal! It's a scary time isn't it. Your in the right place for worrying, ranting and anything else the pregnant hormones throw at you! Only a couple more days to go! Fingers crossed its all good for you!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 03/01/2017 13:23

The cold doing the rounds has finally got to me, I can't believe how much we can't take! I've got such a sore throat, honey and lemon isn't touching it. Any suggestions?

CatRash · 03/01/2017 13:43

Best of luck suntraveller, I hope all is well. If it helps I'm 11+1 also and back ache has been my faithful friend through and was particularly bad the last two days.

Notyet I don't think I will announce at work either, it's a large office I work in (about 70-80) so I will just let the rumour mill do its work. I'm surprised it's not already to be honest....First day back today and I arrived late because of a doctor's appointment and there was no where to park when I got to work, so I nipped in, grabbed a couple of files and my laptop and promptly flounced off to go work in another office in another town after ranting at a few people. Gotta love these pregnancy hormones!!!

I spent an hour crying at a broken drawer on Xmas day ffs! Definitely hormonal!!

CatRash · 03/01/2017 13:44

Sorry to hear that thumbs I got a cold before Xmas and it was grim. You can take parcetemol I think? Just wait till your nose blocks...that was fun....I was gross, majorly gross.

Spindelina · 03/01/2017 14:22

Welcome, MI1091! My last 12 week scan didn't go well either. Fortunately(?) I've miscarried again since then, so I've had a few early scans this time round. Even that hasn't entirely stopped the dread I feel about next Wednesday, so I can't imagine what it must be like not having had the early checks.

thumbsup it's crap isn't it. Para-flipping-cetemol. And rest. I've also used one of those throat spray things for sore throats. The packet said that you should consult before using it if you were pregnant. As that wasn't an outright ban, I decided getting at least some sleep was more important.

(That was a month or so before my MMC, when the pregnancy had already ended but I didn't know it, and one of the strongest emotions I felt was along the lines of "for fuck's sake, I went though that cold without taking proper medicine and for no good reason". You have my sympathy!)

LuciBee231015 · 03/01/2017 14:29

Suntraveller, hope you are resting up. Thinking of you and hope tomorrow goes ok x

suntraveller · 03/01/2017 16:13

luci thanks, yep today I'm resting and wishing the hours to speed by. So far today no more bleeding, hoping this is a good sign.

LuciBee231015 · 03/01/2017 16:56

No more bleeding is a good sign. Do you still have cramps? Fingers and toes crossed for you!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 03/01/2017 17:03

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm on the paracetamol and plenty of feeling sorry for myself rest.

Hope all is well at your scan Suntraveller, no more bleeding is definitely a good sign.

For those that were looking, I've seen the Ickle Bubba on sale here:
www.kiddicare.com/p/Ickle_Bubba_Stomp_v2_All_In_One_Travel_System_in_Silver.htm

I Keep telling myself to stop looking and get on with packing for the move but baby stuff is way more exciting!

Seahawk80 · 03/01/2017 17:04

Hi sun I've had lots of random bleeds and always been fine. Fx for you. No more bleeding is a v good sign Smile

Kitsandkids · 03/01/2017 17:25

I had a scan the other day which put my due date at 1st July instead of 30th June. So I feel like I can now be in this group 'officially!' Ha ha!

So from that date I'm 14+3.

Anyone else feeling totally exhausted at the minute? The last couple of days I haven't wanted to do anything. Yesterday I did summon up the energy to go out for a bit but all of today I've been lying on the sofa in my dressing gown!

suntraveller · 03/01/2017 17:26

luci no cramps since last night and that was probably only 3. sea it's reassuring to hear of others who had similar and are fine.

LuciBee231015 · 03/01/2017 19:11

Thumbs, that Ickle bubba package doesn't come with the isofix base, that might be why it's a bit cheaper?

First day back at work today since 21st Dec... A 10.5 hour day and I'm shattered!! Work is sooooo busy it's unreal! I couldn't cope! I'm used to napping!

Lallypopstick · 03/01/2017 19:14

I think we're going to look at baby things after the next scan mid-Feb. I want to decorate the little bedroom before we get anything, and that's going to involve some moving around of furniture. And we need to sort out the garage to make better use of all the space.

I have some cardigans and hats that my mum knitted, and a blanket we got for Christmas, so we've got a drawer of things started.

Kits I'm still really tired too. I'm focusing on getting my work life balance in check this year, because I'm sure the long days and long commutes aren't helping.

bluebird1235 · 03/01/2017 19:40

Had my 12 week scan today. Was all perfect. Measuring slightly ahead of schedule so puts my edd to 13th July but not sure what stage DHs genetics start to kick in (he's rather tall). They were wiggling all over the place and one looked like he was sucking his thumb!

Sun, I had lots of early bleeding. Made me panic like hell too. I hope all goes well for your scan tomorrow.
