Luci that's amazing, I'll take a look!

CatRash · 01/01/2017 20:44

Does anyone know how much the NCT classes cost? I've been looking at the website but it's very vague....?

Would be good to meet some ladies who are also pregnant as I have very few female friends (most my friends are blokes) and none of them are pregnant or have children....or anywhere close to starting families so I don't really have anyone I can chat with.

For those that have been to NCT classes before what sort of age range were there?

Seahawk80 · 01/01/2017 20:55

Cat mine were £218 but that's in London. I am going to do it but am going to call them with a few questions first as there's a course that's slightly nearer but it's a bit different and I wanted to ask them
Where most people come from for both courses.

Seahawk80 · 01/01/2017 20:57

I will ask them the age range when I speak to them!

luci that is amazing value - I'm not sure I could get over the ickle baby name tho! I'd seen it before and discounted it just because of the name - maybe I should look again!

rhodes2015 · 01/01/2017 21:07

Haha sea! It is fantastic value though luci!!

LuciBee231015 · 01/01/2017 21:43

I think my nct worked out about £170ish and if you book early enough they let you pay in instalments over a few months so we did that.

I know what you mean about the name but it's such a good deal for good quality stuff, I can't justify spending more money just for a more popular name/brand!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 01/01/2017 21:45

It's around £170 here too, paying it over three months. I'm expecting the group to be older than me based on the area but that's not a huge problem for me.

I've fallen down the rabbit hole on pushchairs now, totally overwhelmed!

Harvestwidow · 01/01/2017 21:55

Please could some one tell me what NCT classes are?

Seahawk80 · 01/01/2017 21:58

I'm glad that you made me think twice Luci! I think I'm going to do one of the nursery tours in John Lewis in march and make a decision then.

For anyone in London Tfl have a top 5 pushchairs on their website. I want to make sure we get something that we can take on the bus / train easily as although we'll have a car I think we'll use public transport a lot.

I'm giving up on pushchairs now and looking at booking a city break for Easter as our last ever holiday just the 2 of us!

LuciBee231015 · 01/01/2017 22:00

Harvest, they are private birthing classes, learning how to deal with labour, breastfeeding etc for you and your partner.

Harvestwidow · 01/01/2017 22:10

Thanks Luci

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 01/01/2017 22:18

Seahawk that sounds like a much much better idea! I might take a leaf out of your book, though maybe I need to concentrate on the house move at the moment and this is all procrastination!

Seahawk80 · 01/01/2017 22:37

Ha ha thumbs I work in travel so it's more my comfort zone! I've only just confirmed that I'm off for Easter and we want to book flights with air miles so I think it will probably be Madrid as it's one of the few places still available! Plus as I can't drink it needs to be somewhere with good food!

Bawbles · 02/01/2017 08:20

The ickle baby system looks fantastic value and the reviews look great.

I'm relieved that DP has agreed to reuse DD travel system so that's a massive saving - I have the original bugaboo cameleon with all the accessories. I was really happy with it and it's a great condition so wanted to use it again.

I'm going to order a new fabric set for it to change the colour and upgrade the wheels to foam filled. We picked up a spare isofix base too for DP car but otherwise I'll just need a changing bag.

We also have loads of building with happening on house this year (and prob next) so baby won't have a nursery which simplifies the shopping - it'll just be a bedside crib and some storage in our room for the first six months.

CatRash · 02/01/2017 08:44

Thanks everyone, that's not too bad a price - I was expecting £300+ or something - always worries me when a website is reluctant to state the cost!!

Spindelina · 02/01/2017 09:04

My NCT class was 25, 29, 33, 34, 39, 40, 40, 41. So quite a spread! The social groups that have persisted are more about personality and geography than age.

We have c.30 steps between the pavement and our front door, so that was our number one requirement. No car, so didn't need to fit in a boot. Ended up choosing icandy cherry, then finding one on local small adds for £120 (inc carry cot). Also bought the ubiquitous maxi cosi seat for taxis etc.

You might find that once you announce your pregnancy, you get offered a lot. We got given a cot bed, Moses basket, and various other bits and bobs, and declined a travel system (crap at stairs). Also got a wrap sling and a load of toys from freecycle.

If shopping's fun and you can afford it, great... but it doesn't have to be really expensive (other than lost earnings - that's painful however you look at it) if you don't want it to be.

CatRash · 02/01/2017 09:18

Thanks Spind - quite an age range then which is good!!

Following on from what you said also might be worth checking out car boots. I went to a lot last year as was collecting candlesticks and cut glass vases for our wedding decor and you see a lot of baby equipment and clothing. I was surprised to see how much of it was brand new!

Obviously there won't be many on now but come April/May time there should be lots around.

BeapBeap · 02/01/2017 11:13

Hello all!

Changed username as lost login details, was MunchieSqueaks
Just found this second thread!

Been dying of morning sickness, so convinced it's another girl...

Had booking appointment on 19th Dec

Also got 12 week scan on 16th Jan like a lot here, can't wait. Anyone going to pay for a gender scan? I think we are, as if it's another girl we won't need to buy a thing, if it's a boy I'll have to go shopping!

In regards to the NCT question, I never went, all too airy fairy for me and I'm much more no nonsense/give me all the pain relief/not interested in breastfeeding sort of person, so won't be going this time either Grin

rhodes2015 · 02/01/2017 12:07

Hi beap I'm paying for gender scan it's on 21st jan when il be 16+4. Did you find out with your last baby or did you have a surprise?
Think I'm gonna be "give me all the pain relief/not interested in breast feeding" type too!!

BeapBeap · 02/01/2017 12:37

Hi Rhodes!

I'm so jealous I've got to wait until Feb! I didn't find out with DD as wanted a surprise, but I think finding out with help her and my stepson who is 14 bond easier with the new addition.

Plus I'm just so impatient! Teehee

Who have you booked your scan with? Was it expensive?

rhodes2015 · 02/01/2017 14:26

Beap, It was £45 with life thru a lens which i think is a chain but a small one. I had to pay £20 on booking and then rest when we go.
I'm too impatient too and despite having no preference I have no boys names at all! So need to really get thinking if it is a boy!

BeapBeap · 02/01/2017 14:55

Same here!!! We can't agree on any boys names so if it is one we will need the rest of the pregnancy to agree on one!

I'll see if they do anything near us x

TinklingTheIvories · 02/01/2017 15:07

I've made some enquiries today about NCT courses near me. I think as we're moving it'll be nice to get out and meet people.

We've also settled on a boys name and a girls name, though with another nearly 7 months to go, everything could change! We're not going to find out the sex, as it's our first. But if we have a second we will.

Can't believe it's this year! Eek!!

Notyetthere · 02/01/2017 20:46

I am a sucker! while looking through bounty app articles I came across this. I am in love! The price though, I could faint. obviously we can't use it immediately as baby will bunk in with us for the first few months. But the price...

I keep getting emails about the Vertbaudet sale. Looks good for maternity stuff. I'm hanging on and hoping there's still sale stuff around after my screening!

notyet, we're planning on using our cotbed (which DD still sleeps in...need to do something about that...) with one side off as a sidecar cosleeper. It's an investment, I tell you Wink.

For a girl, we would probably use the name which came a close second for DD. We'll come up with another one, and not officially decide until after the birth, but we'll know. For a boy, we have two names that we had ready for DD, plus I've fallen for a third (haven't told DH that yet though). We're a bit stumped for middle names, though. We only ever had one we really liked, and DD's got that (if she'd been a boy she'd have gone middle nameless for several weeks).
