Wow can't believe I'm here 😁 I had a look, but couldn't see any other threads. Hopefully I won't be alone.

This will be our second baby. DS is 3.... 4 in january. EDD should be about 2nd August I think.

Hope I'm not alone for too long!

Carlotta82248 · 15/12/2016 12:52

I would be 25th August (as you can tell by the choice of tense, I'm so doubtful but all signs pointing to this possibly being my turn!) x

ThirdThoughts · 15/12/2016 12:59

Honestly, I wasnt working at the time and didn't have many other commitments (I was suffering from poor mental health prior to getting pregnant, which gradually improved over pregnancy and the first couple of years after DC1 was born) so I had no idea how women working, sometimes full time jobs or caring for other children managed it either. I could rest all the time and didn't have to manage sickness in public etc.

This time around, I have an energetic 4 year old to look after and I work from home in the evenings and weekends. However, we're not reliant on that income (mine is a fledgling business so we're used to living on one wage) and I can be flexible about how much work I take on and when I do the work.

So although I'll find it harder than last time. I'm not going to have it as tough as those of you with full-time jobs and/or younger children to care for.

ThirdThoughts · 15/12/2016 13:03

That sounds like we're well off and I'm a lady of leisure! Grin I'm not really, the money would come in handy if I can earn it, but the business is new, our living costs aren't too high and we are used to making do!

Heatherbaby · 15/12/2016 13:23

thirdthoughts having a 4yo son and being preg will be tough! Before considering your other work! Hope the sickness isn't so bad for you this time round!

I have had my first puke of the day, I think my sickness is more afternoon sickness than morning, I puked this time yesterday too! Absolutely hate vomiting it's the worst feeling ever. I wish there was some medication I could take for this, how have they not invented a cure to morning sickness?

carlotta totally understand the feeling of ifs and buts. It hadn't sunk in for me either but past few days I haven't had a chance to feel anxious about the baby I've been concentrating on not throwing up hehe.

Seriously though, this is awful, I can't call in sick for months on end. Any other hints and tips on coping strategies are welcomed!

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 13:32

Heather I'm sorry it's hard for you to eat today. I managed two slices of brown toast with peanut butter so far which is an achievement. Hope it stays down. I have to go into work for a few hours this afternoon but then I'm off until January 4. Self employed so getting very little pay over holidays which is a bit of a bummer but happy to be off and finally have time to focus on me and baby Xmas Grin

firsttimer12345 · 15/12/2016 13:35

Self employed here too lizziedoll!
I finish next Tuesday so a couple of days left before January. We'll have to navigate all this self employed maternity allowance stuff together!

Loubella11 · 15/12/2016 13:39

Hi guys, sooooooooooo excited to be here. I'm 7 weeks exactly today after a mc at 5 weeks back in September. Due date is August 3rd, not getting first scan until 24th Jan which I don't know if I can wait that long!

side effect wise, I've been reasonably lucky, very tired, sore boobs and some cramping, but just cannot relax at all, I actually dream about being told the worst!

can anyone recommend an early scan and would the heart beat show up or am I still too early? just want to fall asleep and wake up at 13 weeks all healthy!

Sparklyuggs · 15/12/2016 13:43

loubella you can get an early scan from 5 weeks but it will show v little, 7/8 weeks should show a heart.

Ladies with NVP go to the doc. I'm on cyclizine after being bed bound and I'm finally back at uni after 2 weeks.

ThirdThoughts · 15/12/2016 13:59

I doubt I'll qualify for it first timer I don't think I'm earning enough. But I suppose it means I won't have the drop income to worry about if/when I can't work.

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 14:08

First timer yes please! So daunting. Not sure if I'm even entitled to anything?! Thankfully my uncle is an accountant (he does all my taxes for me) and planning on asking him for advice after my 12 week scan (January 19). If I'm not entitled to any maternity pay that means my partner will have to cover rent on his pay alone and that'll be a stretch Confused. I will let you know what my uncle says re self employed maternity pay. Is this your first baby too?

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 14:10

Loubella I would wait until your 12 week scan, I went for a scan last week and they only saw gestational and yolk sacs, no embryo. I am almost 7w4d but they think I'm a week behind on my dates

Loubella11 · 15/12/2016 14:15

it's such a worrying time isn't it?? this site is such a god send, so nice to know we are all experiencing the same emotions x

whoateallthejaffacakes · 15/12/2016 14:41

rang today to check about my first appointment. its not at the hosp like first pregnancy was, it's in the gp health center, not sure why though. i will be 9+6 by my dates/12w by gp incorrect dates Hmm.
in the hosp they did a quick scan, then bloods, urine & history. wondering if i'm guna miss out on my scan if it's being done at health center if someone has made an error somewhere Confused

oatybiscuits · 15/12/2016 15:03

Self employed ladies I seem to remember from last time that it's not about how much you earn but what kind of NI you pay but it's changed a bit since then, I will start another thread and ask Grin

MrsG280516 · 15/12/2016 15:08

jaffacakes my booking appointment is at my GP surgery with the midwife. I would have thought you would need to have that first then they request a scan date from the hospital? I've been told that after my booking appointment I'll get a letter from the hospital with a date for the 12 week scan (will probably be more like 13w for me by the time I get one).

Loubella11 · 15/12/2016 15:14

jaffacakes I have my midwife apt on the 16th January and I'm getting my 12 week scan on the 24th. I thought the mw consultation came first, that was the same as I had last time but unfortunately I had to cancel both as they weren't needed :-(

ClaraLane · 15/12/2016 15:59

I've got no idea when I'm having my first scan but my midwife appointment is January 9th and I'll be 10+6 so hopefully won't have to wait too long for a scan after that!

Itsalwayssunny · 15/12/2016 16:14

Midwife does your booking in appt at between 8-10 weeks usually, then you'll get a scan appt. That's how my trust works.

Whispers... Is anyone else symptomless? Other than sore boobs and dizziness I've got nothing. By this time last time my morning sickness was awful. I know no two pregnancies are the same but the lack of symptoms is so strange as it's not what i know.

I really need to contact my GP for my midwife referral. We just moved so i need to change GP surgeries! Not enough time in the day.

I've got my work christmas party tomorrow, i'm going to be sussed by a few people.

MochaChocaChino · 15/12/2016 17:39

Hi everyone

Sorry I've been a bit quiet it's been a crazy week! Hello to all the newbies Smile

I'm 7 weeks today too Loubella so exciting but nerve wracking too. I'm counting every day. I've got my booking in apt on 30 Dec too third Grin

I'm nauseous first thing and randomly in the evenings too, although finding my tips from last time paying off - dry cream crackers and ginger nuts are getting me through as can't even stomach toast. Definitely worth a try if you're struggling. My sickness seemed to pass last time about 16wks from memory so hopefully will be the same this time.

My DS was poorly at nursery today so we've had an afternoon of cuddles (& snoozes!) on the sofa it's been lovely. Off tomorrow but need to get on a Xmas wrapping mission haven't got the energy though...

Kirstyinnorway · 15/12/2016 18:43

Quick question regarding dating pregnancy, would be interested in what UK nurses say in comparison to Norwegian ones.

I know it's common practice to use LMP to date a pregnancy, but if you know when you ovulated, surely using that date as the conception date is more accurate?

Ulterior motive - I get to add two days to my foetal age if I go with the day I ovulated (which I presume is the day I conceived, unless I have vastly misunderstood)?

My cycles are regular as clockwork at 26 days, so I'm also wondering how that affects things (with average being 28).

I'm not particularly worried or anything, I'd just be interested to hear if anyone has chatted to their GP about the same.

Apologies if it's a stupid question, I tried to google but obviously didn't hit the right searches.

Fieldsandgrasses · 15/12/2016 18:52

It'salwayssunny, no symptoms here. Bit tired in the evenings but having busy days!

Loubella11 · 15/12/2016 19:47

Not sure if this is useful for anyone but I'm finding spicy tomato juice is amazing for settling my stomach. Fish seems to be the thing that I've gone off, especially tuna. Is it right that every day that goes by your chances of mc decreases?

Kirstyinnorway · 15/12/2016 20:18

It is Loubella, although the stats are often very varied so take with a pinch of salt.

Kirstyinnorway · 15/12/2016 20:19

Note the small print, percentages change depending on your age, DH's age, whether you've had a mc before, etc. etc.
