That is such devastating news Jess, I'm so very sorry. My thoughts are with you in this most difficult time. XXX

EdieMcredie · 20/02/2007 07:44

My god im so sorry Jess1996, it's horrible

Don't want to go on about this a) for those who still haven't had one and b)for Jess but I had my scan yesterday and it was amazing. Baby was moving so much that she had to wait a while to measure him!! Im now due 13/9/07 instead of 14th. xx

EllieG · 20/02/2007 08:34

That's excellent Edie! Am really pleased for you, is so exciting to see your baby move, can't wait to see mine.

Thanks for the advice about managing work/money folks - I have had some proper chats with DP about it all and feel much better about everything. I think you just have to grasp the idea that things are going to change, but that being a bit skint is worth is for a baby and everyone manages somehow don't they? And I don't want to waste time worrying anymore.

Jess - I was so sorry to hear your sad news. Everyone is thinking of you and we all send lots of love x

Nettee · 20/02/2007 09:00

so sorry Jess, thinking of you

Holly - hi, I also have no scan for another three weeks. Because this is my second pregnancy and it feels so similar to my first and because I have some sort of spritual sense of this babies existance (hard to explain I didn't have it last time at all) I am not that worried. But I do know what you mean about just not knowing - could be a phantom pregnancy or anything. Can't wait until the scan to confirm everything. Have been telling all sorts of people which is probably a bad idea as if there is no baby there I will have to do a lot of untelling.

Last time round I was convinced I was making it all up until I saw DS on the screen - a lovely moment.....

MrsMar · 20/02/2007 11:46

Hello there, I have been too scared to post on here before, I'm so paranoid that everything will go wrong, but I'm now 9+4 and got my first scan in two weeks and two days, so I'm starting to feel a bit more relaxed. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone having their Christmas babies. We're having our first, due on 21st sept (subject to scan results) We're in London, going to be having it at St Georges, where my sister had her two. I'm 36 and so is dh. I hope everyone else is feeling good and healthy!

So sorry to hear jess's news, but really delighted to hear yours, Edie. I'm worried that I'm losing my pregnancy symptoms (which were never very strong to start with). No tiredness or sickness any more, and my boobs don't seem as tender as they were. In theory, I'm 9 weeks today. I've got my dating scan a fortnight tomorrow, so am just going to have to hang on till them, but it doesn't feel good.

laksa · 20/02/2007 13:03

Hi guys,

sorry to post and run but have just been on the phone trying to cancel my duplicated nuchal scan dates. I wanted to cancel the 12th march date and retain the 19th march date as my dh is away on the 12th and would like to come.

But the receptionist at Kings college was saying that it was cutting it very fine as I would be 13 weeks 6 days on the 19th March and that is apparently the last day they will do the nuchal scan. She allowed me that date but said if I cancelled it for any reason then it would be on my own head.

I don't understand why 13 weeks 6 days is the cutoff, can they not measure the folds after that then?? Also was wondering about those ppl who have been given scan dates for later than this? confused...

xx

Atalantis, my boobs stopped being sore at 5 weeks so I am paranoid about that too, am trying to be positive as just think of all those ppl who have no idea that they are pregnant till 13 weeks etc. not everyone has dramatic changes early on...

fiofio, I am getting stretching pains but only if I actually lie on my stomach in bed

edie, great news, have images of your jelly bean bouncing around having a great time inside

Hi There

I had my nuchal and cvs at Kings yesterday at 12+2 and we were talking about the scan and apparently after a point the fluid filled cavity that they measure to get a risk of downs starts to disappear (they aren't born with it) and once this happens it can no longer be used as a diagnostic measure as the accuracy would go. Same with the cvs, the chorionic villi that they are sampling disappear after a certain time. They also do a blood test looking for markers of downs and give you your combined risk from both. They were very good - for maximum reassurance I would personally take the earlier appointment - is there any way your dh can rearrange his diary?

canadianmum · 20/02/2007 15:24

Hello Mrsmar, I am going to St. George's too, may see you there some time!! My EDD is 15/9 and I am 36 as well. How did your sister rate St. George's?? Obviously not TOO badly or you wouldn't have chosen it ...?

minniethemouse · 20/02/2007 15:31

Hi girls

can I please join you? I am 35 from London, this is my 2nd pg and terminated the 1st due to my illness. due date .. interesting question : GP said 13/9, birth chart said 11/9 but the midwife said 3/9. hi laksa

the cutoff of nuchal scan .. i have read the information from Fetal Medicine centre where explained a lots of the information especially CVS. I am going to have my nuchal scan next week where the hospital i booked they dont provide this facility. I have paternal family history of Down Sydrome, so a friend of mine (he is a GP) recommended me to go this centre. Also the centre is non profit making which mainly the database is for research. I hope the website can help.

Hello Minnie! Welcome. It's getting to be quite a busy list...

Nettee, hello again, I have been bad at keeping this a secret as well so am crossing my fingers for the scan. Hope I have a lovely experience like Edie!

I meant to say before that I was also really sorry to hear about Jess too. x

MrsMar · 20/02/2007 17:56

Hi Canadian mum, sorry I didn't reply sooner, I was at work messing up a job interview (!)

My sister did rate St Georges. I was offered (as I'm sure you were) the choice between St Thomas', Chelsea and Westminster and St Georges. One of the things that swung it for me was that the neo natal high care unit for the area is at St Georges. When Sophie Wessex's daughter was prem they took her to St Georges, and I thought if anything went wrong, I'd hate to have the delay and stress of getting the baby to St Georges for admission. If I'm already there then it's much easier. The other thing that my sister warned me about is that St Thomas' is really popular and therefore somewhat over subscribed, and she had someone in her NCT class who was turned away while in labour, which is my worst nightmare, especially as we are having babies at the most popular time (ie, 9 months after Christmas)

At St Georges they put you in a team of midwives, my sister was in yellow team. That way, you may not see the same midwife each time, but you do see the same team, so by the time you get to term you probably know them all.

I hope that all helps!

MrsMar · 20/02/2007 17:57

thanks minnie and Jdd, its too late to get back my date but I've just done my sums and the receptionist miscalculated...I will only be 12+6 (a week earlier than she said) on the 19thmarch, so thats not too late is it? Am quite relieved

welcome to all the newbies, wow there are alot of us now, do you think this thread has more than the average on it? If I have nothing better to do might check out the august and october threads for a head count and report back

xx

laksa · 20/02/2007 18:26

ok here are the stats,

there are 22 on the august thread (didn't bother with the october thread as ppl are still joining it) and 43 on ours...mmm hospitals are gonna be full to bursting, definitely going to go for a homebirth!

ok, I am definitely bored and am now off to do something more productive

missmapp · 20/02/2007 20:39

Hi all, hope you are all well.
So sorry jess ..... thinking of you

eddie thats great news - you must be delighted, theres nothing like seeing you baby moving on screen!!

laksa, i had a normals scan at 12 wks with my ds and for some reason they measured the nuchal fold( she thought it looked big apparantly) it was a nightmare - no one had a clue what size it should be at that stage, so i had to have follow up scans to check for abnormality. everything was ok, but it gave as a few sleepless nights, so if you can get it in date , its worth it.

Its my scan tomorrow and im excited and nervous - i just pray all is ok.

Fingers crossed all have a good week.

TOD · 20/02/2007 21:21

Hi all, sorry havent posted in a while but just too tired to face computer in the evenings after work and no access at work!
Thanks for adding me to the list...great to see my stats there....makes it all a bit more real!
Just read through the last week or so of posts....sorry to hear about Jess...you must be heartbroken..thinking of you and yours.
I have my scan in three weeks time, I will be 13 weeks then all going well! I wont have a nuchal scan as it isnt offered here in Ireland , I suppose because you cant really do anything about a positive result here.
Good luck to all who are waiting on scans and visits...I must visit my GP this week, just routine check up...system seems very different here!!!
Glad I'm not the only spotty, pale , nauseated, bloated woman on this planet!!! Feel very attractive at the moment!!!
Sorry to ask this but anyone really constipated at the moment....I had horrendous cramps over the weekend , I suppose I have only been eating junk food too and my system is revolting against it...have to make extra effort to ear healthy...but the sight of healthy food makes me sick...wierd or what!!!

EdieMcredie · 20/02/2007 22:00

Thanks to all those who congratulated me on my scan. Keep imagining it in there doing cartwheels like it was on the screen!! Even the pic is fuzzy as he/she was moving so much!!

Feel like my ms is starting to get a bit better but now instead im mega tired.

Is anyone else very big??!! I feel like im about 6 months gone!

emalushka · 20/02/2007 22:16

Hello to all and congratulations,

I've messaged a couple of times, but I'm not on the list. Could someone please add me on? I'm 27, first timer and baby is due 15th September.

It's been really interesting reading the messages. Where I am, a scan isn't booked until 20 weeks and I haven't been offered a nuchal scan. Having had little in the way of pregnancy symptoms, it would be nice to know there is something there. Is it like this anywhere else? Or is my area particularly slack?

missmapp · 21/02/2007 07:10
