Lilkel, I haven't seen the new P&T but would probably wait around for it. We did buy the travel bag but haven't used it yet - even if it is just used once tho it is worth it as even one long haul trip can ruin it. You have to take the wheels off to get it in the bag (not too difficult to do).
To give you an idea of the difference in aftersales service... we bought the first from kiddicare and it took ages to get them to respond to my emails, when they did, they were going to pick up (of course some time between 9 and 5) and examine. If it was deemed my fault, not manuf fault, then I would be charged for the initial pick up, repairs and delivery. I would also be without buggy for about 10 days. With Daisy and Tom, I took it in, they looked at it and rang P&T and picked up the new part within a week (zip stitching coming undone) - easy. Storage isn't great, especially with a newborn but you can get paniers (make it wide though with both on). TBH I wouldn't ever load the storage basket too much as it does stretch and scrapes if you go over a bump. You can also get a "bum bag" style carrier to put over the handlebar that will fit a couple of bottles and a purse and keys in the zip section. I could go on for hours but won't bore you any more...

TALLULAHBELLE · 07/02/2007 20:17

Re bump measuring.Wonder if it matters what brand of bog roll you use? Does it come in standard sheet size? Surely Andrex has greater girth than Tesco's own . I'm 23 weeks, and 8 sheets. Sounds small compared to some of you but I feel enormous! Still not one person offered me a seat on the Underground last week so maybe not that enormous after all.

bumperlicious · 07/02/2007 20:29

Hi all
Feeling more and more like a tellytubby! Anyone have any info about recommended weight gain at different stages? Think I may be over doing it on the biscuits!
Also very miffed to find that morning sickness has returned! Not as bad as before, but was giving a briefing at work then suddenly WHAM, hit me like a train and I totally spaced out whilst trying to present. Great, just when things were getting better! Grrr. Also, can I start a national campaign to rename morning sickness to 'pregnancy sickness' or something even more descriptive just so everyone else realises just how crap and debilitating it it! Votes please?!

hollyandalice · 07/02/2007 21:18

Good thinking on new thread!!

I'm with you on the "pregnancy sickness" bump! Mine hasn't been too bad this time, but last time I was sick constantly for weeks, had to have all sorts of medication and was signed off work for ages. Luckily my line manager was a woman with 5 kids, so understood my hell, but I don't think people realise how waking up every morning and feeling like you've had a massive bender the night before feels. I wish men could be pg for just one day, it would be so funny to see how they cope!!

Talking of buggies, I was looking on the John Lewis website today and thought that this Jane looked good. It doesn't seem to have the disadvantages of the P&T (shopping basket hell, little one wedged underneath etc.) and doesn't look as long as the old Jane tandem. Also buying from John Lewis means excellent customer service. I might drag my mum into town next week (she's a teacher and buys me loads of stuff at half term, HOORAY!) to look at it.

Lilkel I am still craving Krispy Kremes like you wouldn't believe and it's all your fault! Dp is in London tomorrow and he said that he'll try and find me one. I'll cry if he doesn't !

Happy Birthday to Lilkel, Seansgirl and Sputnik!

NattyThomasandBump · 07/02/2007 22:23

im looking at this one for a double pushchair link seems most practical.

thanks for everyones congrats, the weather was lovely. sunshine if a little chilly!

MagicGenie · 07/02/2007 23:17

Hmmmm...our thinking on the double buggy thing is to hold off. Reasons being...

We got an Inglesina 3-in-1 travel system for DS (chassis/buggy bit, carrycot/pram bit and car seat) which we still use. It's lasted really well (apart from looking a bit 'well-used'!)

I really enjoyed using the Baby Bjorn sling thingy when DS was really small, so plan to have this baby in the sling and continue putting DS in the current buggy.

DS was about 5/6 mo when he was too heavy for me to carry in the sling, so presuming this baby's approximately the same, that means we won't need to worry about it needing to be in the buggy til Christmas. At which time we might consider getting a single buggy for this baby and a buggy board for DS.

Of course this presumes DS will a) like using a buggy board, b) be able to/want to walk places and, c) the present buggy doesn't conk out in the meantime. We'll have to see how it goes.

marylou23 · 08/02/2007 09:53

Hello all and congratulations/happy birthdays all round!
So, question on cravings. Other than Krispy Kremes, which, quite frankly, I can crave pretty much all the time, I don't think I've had any pregnancy cravings yet. Have you? Am desperate to push DH out of bed at 4am demanding something strange and difficult to track down, but so far nothing. Is it because I'm taking vitamins so my body isn't crying out for anything, I wonder? Or do they tend to come later?
Am feeling much better today - had a good night's sleep and have put this Leiden Factor 5 in perspective (you google it and the first thing that comes up is 'higher chance of pregnancy loss and still birth' which is just lovely , but then you discover that 5-10% of the population have it, which suggests that the chances of problems are pretty remote - it's only passed on genetically, and they reckon it will have come from one person, so you've got to think that people carrying the gene have managed to have a fair few babies if such a large proportion of people now have it).
Although have decided to have baby in hospital instead of lovely birthing centre - am happy to sacrifice 'wonderful experience' for knowing a doctor is close at hand.
Phew, sorry for long post. Who's got snow today?

marylou23 · 08/02/2007 10:04

Oh, Bump, forgot to say, here's a link to weight gain in pregnancy site... weight monitor Although I say if the baby's hungry, you gotta feed it...

hollyandalice · 08/02/2007 10:23

Glad you are feeling better Marylou !!
No weird cravings here, only donuts (doh!!) and McDonalds caramel sundaes (I'm a veggie and hate McDonalds and everything it stands for, but when you need a sundae, you need a sundae!!), they stick apple pies in them now you know.

I'm really, really cross. There's no snow ! My poor dd has never even seen snow and I so badly wanted to show her it and play in it, she'd love it. All it's doing is raining, so there's not even any playing outside. I love snow more than anything ever and I nearly cried when I looked out the window and there wasn't any! I feel cheated by the BBC, they said in was going to snow down here, but it never does !

sputnik · 08/02/2007 13:25

Maybe tape measures would be a touch more scientific for bump measuring. Or we'll just end up getting bogged down in sheet lengths etc.

Seansgirl · 08/02/2007 13:30

Hi all, thank you for birthday wishes its really nice as the number of cards etc you have as you get older gets less ! Belated Birthday wishes to Sputnik and Congrats to NT&B on getting hitched! Had great lunch out and dinner at DPs and yes I will be the owner of a Cath hospital bag when it arrives as DBs have clubbed together to get it! Hoorah!(take note girls this was ordered last thu of website and although was in stock has not arroved yet!)

Glad to hear you are feeling better Marylou. No real cravings tho DH reckons I have a thing about chilli con carne, jacket spud and coleslaw...

Scan went well yesterday, we didn't ask the sex but feel relieved to see LO again, having a good move around first face down, and then turned over and everything appears to be in place. Only thing was the Consultant bought up again was my DD being 'small for dates' I know they are only being cautious etc, but TBH I cannot see what the stress is! She was 6lb 13oz, ok not huge but not what you would say was underweight. But these new risk assessments in the green notes seem to flag it up as a possible problem due to my height and size compared to DDs birth weight. If you could see her now you'd laugh. At 3years and 10 months she is in 5-6 years clothes (length wise as she is not chunky) and size 10 - 10 1/2 shoe so WTF does it matter??? So, have got to go back at 28 weeks and 32 weeks for a scan to check the weight gain. Quite what they are going to do if not happy I am not really sure, but of course am happy to have a scan again! Unfortunately it won't be a 3D one tho!

Sorry for long post and I should not moan really as everything else is ok and should be grateful for that. It just seems so over cautious to me.

Seansgirl · 08/02/2007 13:31

Sputnik LOL 'bogged' down!Tee Hee!

Daisybump · 08/02/2007 13:38

I've not logged in for two days and so much has happened on here I feel like a stranger!
to catch up......congrats on all weddings/birthdays etc etc(mine was last Thursday).
Re changing bags....I just used an old bag of mine with DS, so this time I'm determined to have a nice one, although DH thinks that the freebie from Huggies via the Boots Parenting Club is perfectly adequate if a bit plastic smelling (duh...men just don't get it do they!). There are some nice ones in the jojo catalogue (made by Oi Oi) and also in Vertbaudet...and of course the lovely Cath (drool drool).

Re weight gain...Prof Regan states that you shouldn't put much on in the first and then about a pound a per week in the 2nd (approx 1stone in the 2nd trimester), but I'm nearing the end of the 2nd (already...it's gone really quickly) and have only put on 8-9lbs overall. When I asked the doc, he said that all the weight gain charts are for twenty something first timers and that at my age (38) when already carrying a bit of extra weight (charming ), as long as baby is growing well don't worry about it. Mind you, although I've only put on 9lbs I'm feeling like a beached whale already, and noticed that my knickers are getting a bit tighter and have a tendency to ride up and give me a wedgie (tmi...) Didn't buy any pregnant pants with DS, but feel like I might have to...or a bigger size of my fave Next shorts. Oh the dilemmas we pg women face!
Does anyone know anything about the use of lavender essential oils? I was in Bodyshop buying some aching leg gel at the weekend and the lady there (who also works as a nursery nurse at the local maternity unit) told me that lavender based products can make the baby sleepy and I shouldn't use it anymore. I regularly use Lavender hand cream and bubble bath...I also got some boots Mediterranean range pregnancy goodies for my birhtday and one of the products has lavender in! confused...help.

Daisybump · 08/02/2007 13:45

Sputnik...crossed with your post. Congrats on the scan...and the CK bag, but at the medical staff...some people just have little babies so try not to let them get you down. As long as your DD was healthy when she was born and is obviously healthy now then I can't see why they are worried.

Seansgirl · 08/02/2007 14:11

Thanks Daisy and belated birthday wishes to you too Daisy! and well done at just the 9lbs. Dread to think what mine will be! Fully understand on the changing bag my DH thought that was perfectly adequate too! Is your DH an 'engineer' by trade by any chance and not esp. bothered by nice things like mine? DH runs air conditioning company and really hates spending money on fashionable/funky things. I buy most of his clothes etc for him as left to him he would buy everything from Matalan,Poundland,Tescos anything in the sales, just because it was in the sales...get the picture? He is sweet tho and have been together for 18years married for 11 of those!!

hollyandalice · 08/02/2007 15:36

Daisybump, belated congratulations to you too, funny lots of us having birthdays around the same time. I have been doing a bit of research into essential oils in pg, as I am making my own stretchmark cream, and lavander is fine, will dig you out a link in a moment.

mytwocents · 08/02/2007 16:39

laughed alot re cath kidston obsession, we've got the camping chairs and i love them, and the admiring glances they recieve...
Scan next week, very excited am currently 9 sheets of looroll,

So turns out I don't have hayfever but an unpronouncable virus affecting the inner ear, basically I get these attacks where I feel stumbly drunk and have to lie down immeadiately or throw up, for a first timer I'm working REALLY hard to try and stay positive, so far this pregnancy thing is a challenge.....

Does cheer me up reading all your posts though, will try to be more regular and contribute

Peace x

NattyThomasandBump · 08/02/2007 19:38

was considering the sling and buggy board myself but DS will only be 13 months, how old do you think he will be b4 hes walking well enough to use a buggy board?

notsolilKel · 08/02/2007 19:40

Seansgirl & Sputnik, happy happy shared birthdays!!! It's mine too and breaking out the bubbly here soon...

Holly re the Powertwin - a big problem I've heard is that the heavier kid goes in front, making it difficult to lever the buggy up over curbs and such. If you can, try it out with actual kid inside. Plus it weighs a lot more than the P&T. 14.8kg vs 9.7kg! Unless you enjoy a good workout every day... I do like Jane though, very well made. I think I have an offer for mine. just got to find a box to ship it in now...

MagicGenie - welcome back - I your back strength. I wasn't able to pack DS into the BabyBjorn carrier past 5 weeks.

Weight - I'm horrified to say with DS I gained the max (35lb) and on track to do so again...but I don't measure big. Hmm. It must be all in my @ss!!

Bump: 95cm

(will be back to catch up more in a sec)
