Hi everyone, new thread...apologies for sorry attempt at poetry

I thought it was me going mad when I decided I wanted to completely re-arrange the contents of my kitchen last weekend. As with lo coming along the extension and new kitchen is on hold . Glad to see I'm not the only one nesting. I thought this only happened right at the end (what do I know!!)

I'm supposed to be working from home today as had midwife appointment but have only just got round to 'looking' at the work I'm supposed to be doing. Been catching up with people on email and searching for various baby bits and planning how I can get through to the start of maternity leave (end of may) without having to do a 5 day week . All my extra appointments for Anti-d injections are helping.

hollyandalice · 13/02/2007 15:36

Hi cocobear, I'm feeling kinda fat and kinda hungry all the time!! I can still fit in my normal jeans (thank god as only have one pair of maternity jeans and won't buy anymore until am a bit fatter!), but have a sort of overhang!

I finally got round to doing some housework, but am refusing to do anymore as dp decided to finish work early today and he's gone down the pub with his mate! Charming!

Sputnik we need to get the builders in soon as we desparately need a new kitchen, but have missed the sales this time round so will have to wait a few months. I really want it done before LO arrives so it's all nice and new. Also need to decorate every room, need new carpets etc. We moved in a year ago, but have been a bit lazy! At least you know it'll all be done soon and you can relax and enjoy!

marylou23 · 13/02/2007 17:56

All my sympathies to those of you undergoing building works - we did our place from scratch a couple of years ago (re-wiring, new heating, new plastering, new everything...!) as it was a wreck, untouched for about forty years, and it was hell on earth. Although worth it in the end - small pleasures like having the bath installed keep you going.. . Re. feeling fat, H&A I can't believe you're still in your jeans! Am super impressed. THere's no way I could put any of my normal pairs on - it's stretchy waist bands all the way for me. My bump is all out front, which is nice aesthetically (until it started properly protruding I looked like I had a beer belly; now I definitely look pg which is a positive move forwards in my opinion), but other than a couple of stretchy dresses and tops, it's ruled out any of my usual clothes - hence all the shopping at Isabella Oliver...
I'm starting to get backache - anyone else? It's mainly when I wake up, actually - I get really stiff like an old woman.

notsolilKel · 13/02/2007 19:18

LOL Marylou, I am an old woman!!!

Seriously I do feel horrific when I wake in the morning. Like I've been kryogenically suspended and must restart all vital organs before getting out from under the duvet. The lavender oil on the pillow doesn't help...

Last night I had the worst insomnia. I got up for a teeny wee break and presto, 3 hours later, I've been to bed and out again after failing to fall asleep about 10 times. GAHHHHH

I took down a bunch of paintings in my lounge today (my own) - had decided things were to cluttered in there. Also ordered some new carpets from Next - ooh this pg lark does bizarre things to you....what will it be tomorrow? Ripping out the garden??

Bit and about all your major bldg works. DH and I nearly, nearly bought a Victorian wreck in our town to do up from scratch (I mean, the loo was in an extension on ground level which was only half a step up from something you could build with kiddie blocks). Ooh the beautiful things we could have done... but it would have meant ripping the whole back of the house off, putting new kitchen in, plumbing the upstairs, stripping everything else down to foundations... Looking back of course I realise the idea of having a 1yr old in a bldg site, about to birth a second baby, with probably no kitchen or bathroom, is simply ludicrous. Just a dreamer, me....

Absolutely Marylou! always creaking around in morning like a pensioner! I wake up at night lying on my back quite a bit I think cos it starts to ache, so I get up for ANOTHER loo trip and really stumble with stiffness! I am super impressed too re. H&A fitting in her jeans! wow! I have worn my regular jeans since xmas but have to use one of those bump bands from jojomamanto expand the waist! Everything else is maternity or stretchy. Have even begun to abandon some stretchy tops as my bump takes up some of length and makes them look too short, which I hate as I prefer my bump to be fully covered and comfortable, can't stand those under the bump things so full coverage for me - very unsexy DH says pants the size of a small country and he can't wait for the small pants and lacy bras to return Its at times like this I feel i have to ask him if he has been sympathising with me too much by eating for two (possibly three?!) Tee Hee!

hollyandalice · 13/02/2007 19:36

I have to say the jeans were a bit big for me beforehand and are quite uncomfortable! Am going to buy more maternity clothes next week when I have some money, but am not looking forward to it! Maternity clothes are yucky!!

Seansgirl my frilly knickers and bras went out nearly 3 years ago when pg with dd and have not returned (prob coz boobs went from 34b to 36dd and did not shrink!). Know what you mean about short tops though. Mine were all too short beforehand, so are getting a bit silly now! I also hate underbump jeans- so uncomfortable and dig in. Am eating for 2 as well, I'm seriously hungry all the time, can't get enough cheese!!!

Seansgirl · 13/02/2007 19:38

Sorry, you're right sometimes I forget my age - I am an old woman too!! On the unwanted side affects of prg have noticed extra thread veins on legs (nice! ) and also had to pluck a horrible dark hair off my chin last night and when had bikini line waxed it really hurt more than usual and is still sore! Embarrassingly this was my first time at this salon (as can't go to usual as last time I went - without realising til I got home wore my knickers inside out !) anyway at this new place she asked me if that was enough off - I had trouble looking at myslef maybe tmi! But hey, I like to share!

Seansgirl · 13/02/2007 19:40

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.................. Did anyone say CHEESE!!!!!!

Have seriously stocked up on all nice cheeses from our local cheese shop - so good for furring the ateries I believe..........

hollyandalice · 13/02/2007 19:42

Can't get enough of the stuff!! Found some brie that can be eaten whilst pg as is made with pasturised milk. HOORAY!!! Had brie and tomato toasties for lunch, yum!!

Seansgirl · 13/02/2007 20:19

H&A, where was the Brie from? Just off to snack on cheese (hereford hop and murcia al vino....yum,yum,yum) whilst cooking our late dinner - DH late again tonight !

hollyandalice · 13/02/2007 20:33

It's President brie. I spent ages in Tesco reading all the labels to find one that was made with pasturised milk. Dp though I was mental!! Also found a cheese called Pié d'Angloys which is like brie, but even yummier and is made with pasturised milk. I checked these out with mw and she said it was fine! Hooray, soft cheese all round!

Seansgirl · 13/02/2007 22:36

Thanks H&A will be checking it out on next trip to Tescos!! Yummy yummy in my tummy.....

sputnik · 14/02/2007 09:41

It's really nice to have you lot and this thread, as all the things I thought it was just me being wierd turns out are happening to everyone.
Talk about cheese cravings, yesterday I had cheese on toast for breakfast, followed by pasta with four cheeses for lunch. Tommorow I'm planning a special trip to a delicatessen in Rome that specialises in foreign food, just so I can get my hands on a bit of cheddar.
Do you think it's our bodies requiring extra calcium or something? I reckon they should modify all those pregnancy calendars, like "this week your baby is the size of a small melon bla bla and you will suffer serious cheese cravings"

Seansgirl · 14/02/2007 10:30

LOL Sputnik, that was definately a cheesey day! So far no cheese as of yet for me. Having said that I have just bought a packet of salt & vinegar crisps (sub-consiously thinking at the same time that'll go nice with a cheese sandwich)

Does anyone know where can I get reasonably priced, but strong storage bags for clothes - you know the ones that you put the vacum on and suck all the air out of. Preferably on line too. Any ideas? H&A as this threads thrifiest bargain hunter?

hollyandalice · 14/02/2007 10:43

Hi Seansgirl, I am indeed a mega bargain hunter, or cheapskate, whatever you'd prefer!!! Was on ebay when you posted and had a look for you. There's loads here . I am pretty sad and spend way too much time on the computer, but I buy and sell things from ebay to make extra cash, that's why it seems I'm always online!! It's quite boring (so look on MN quite often), but I can make a lot of money. I haven't done it since I became pg, but I'm trying to start again as obv need more money. I can find things that are wrongly listed or spelt incorrectly and buy them cheaply and resell them for more. My best bargain was a Bugaboo Frog, I bought it at a car boot sale for £40 and sold it for over £450!!

hollyandalice · 14/02/2007 10:46

Sputnik lol at cheddar being foreign!!! Hope you enjoy it. Do they have pickle in Italy?

sputnik · 14/02/2007 11:12

Last time in was in this delicatessen I did indeed pick up a jar of Branston! They also stock Marmite. Exotic stuff

sputnik · 14/02/2007 11:13

And to think once upon a time I used to make my OWN pickle. Those were the days...

Seansgirl · 14/02/2007 11:14

Knew I could count on you H&A!! I am going to have a good look when have my lunch break (from doing boring domestic drudgery!) that is. Got to get off here to take my mind off the awful news today just been on a thread on MN and feel very very sad.

hollyandalice · 14/02/2007 11:19
Sad
Cocobear · 14/02/2007 11:21

I'm so of all you and the cheese. A modest hunk of decent cheddar in Ghana runs about 10 quid. The stuff made in UAE is somewhat cheaper, but cheddar made in UAE is about as bad as you'd imagine! I've never seen brie here, either pasturised or otherwise. Avoiding soft cheeses has not been a problem.

Calcium cravings... I've found myself pouring loads of milk into my mango smoothies (hey, at least the tropical fruit is good), which I would never ever have done before. I've also got a wierd desire to eat tons of cashew nuts (actually, I want peanuts, but I'm trying to avoid them). Protein, I guess?

sputnik · 14/02/2007 12:31

Cocobear, that reminds me of when I was in Indonesia and cheddar could not be had for love nor money (or any kind of cheese for that matter). Someone came from Australia with a lump of processed cheddar, and it was a BIG DEAL.
So here's an idea for you H&A. Pop down to tescos, get yourself a piece of cheddar, stick it on ebay with worldwide delivery and watch the bids from cheddar-hungry expats roll in

Taffindra · 14/02/2007 13:08

So glad I'm not the only one whose got the builders in. We are currently moving into 7th week of major building works, still with no functioning downstairs - so no kitchen/living room etc. I swear if I see another microwave meal I'll...... Madness.
Also pleased to not be the only fat one - am feeling really unweildy already, people are practically throwing themselves from their seats on the tube to allow me to sit down. Has anyone found out the sex at 20 wk scan? We are having DD, which is fabulous, but apparantly accounts for my huge size. A friend told me that pregnancy with a girl is an 'ugly pregnancy' and she has a friend whose nose grew hugely when she was carrying a girl. Uh-oh

I think we're all reaching the point of no return fatness-wise on here. I have made this week my official moving into maternity clothes, in a way it's a relief tbh.
Funny these old wives tales about different pregnancies for girls and boys, not sure if I believe them really but my MIL's neighbour (who's had 4 kids) also said the thing about being more beautiful if you're carrying a boy, and she guessed right on the sex for both my pgs. She also guessed I was pg this time just by looking at me, though she had met me outside the flat munching away on crackers, which may have been a bit of a giveaway.
