Quickly checking in - thanks for the new list and thread KitKat.

HUGE congratulations Notaclue! What lovely news to hear they're doing so well, really thrilled for you and your family!

Hoping to post more on this thread as life calms down a little bit, hope everyone is doing ok!

Many congratulations and well done on your arrivals notaclue!

After a couple of weeks of bad sleep and generally feeling a bit sorry for myself, I've decided to stay at home today instead of going into work. Slept on and off until 11 (usually up at 7am) so that was nice. I plan on doing a lot of nothing for the rest of the day!

Must think about packing my hospital bag soon, I've started buying a few bits here and there for it so hope there isn't much left i need to buy.

Hunting around on gumtree finally paid off, managed to get a mamas and papas baby snug with play tray for £20 yesterday locally, just needs a good clean.

Congratulations notaclue! Glad you're all doing well - the first babies in our Dec group, how exciting! Flowers

moz the consultant sounds horrible, hope she improves or you get someone else!!

I'm off to see my consultant at her private practice on Tuesday, because via Nhs they're only booking me in to see her registrar, and I want to go back on the meds I had before that the registrar took me off! Not massively impressed that I have to go the private route for it TBH! Lucky I have insurance, I feel like my hospital is quite overworked so they're only concerned if something is really really serious - for anything borderline they don't care!

kitkat I'm fairly sure over looking you for a promotion based on pregnancy is illegal?!

mozfan what a fucking bitch! I hate this "women must suffer" BULLSHIT no we don't have to, prolapse, tears, stitching etc aren't just what happens and we shouldn't just put up with shit care! Angry

Oh wow congratulations NotAClue! No doubt you are under a lot of stress but it's great to hear that the girls are doing well. If it makes you feel any better I know someone whose girl was born at 29 weeks, and she's currently a very healthy 2-year old, and you would never know how premature she was. What date were your girls born on? Sending you all loads of love and support. xx

Does anyone have any thoughts/experience regarding going part time after maternity leave? I'm wondering when it would be best to raise this with my manager/put in the formal request: before I go on maternity leave or some point during it? I only want to go from 5 down to 4 days, and ideally would like one of those working from home. All entirely possible as my job is changing a lot once I come back to become much more adhoc/project based, and the team is expanding accordingly, so I wouldn't be foisting work onto anyone else.

I just don't know if there is any "danger" in flagging it now - will I be treated differently? do I risk them making it difficult for me now or when I get back - or whether it's actually more sensible to discuss now when I am still at work and doing my job well, as opposed to that person who's no longer in the office and they've forgotten about!

Report
Londonmamabychance · 05/10/2016 16:17

Big congrats, Notaclue that's wonderful news, glad the girls are doing well.

Popskie think it depends on what your job is like, at my job any signs that you end to go part time immediately puts you in the "not a serious contender for juicy work or promotions" category, so I'd always hold t off as long as possible. If your employer is more understanding, there shouldn't be any problem flagging it now, in fat they may appreciate you giving a heads up early on.

Report
StubbleTurnips · 05/10/2016 16:29

Popski If you can I would do it now, you are allowed 1 statutory request for flexible working per year. So if they reject it now, you can formally apply next year again.

Saying that I'm too chicken to mention it to my boss until I go Blush

Hello Dec crew - sorry it has been so long since posting. Happy to hear of the safe delivery of your daughters notaclue, warmest congratulations!
All ok here, though a growing fibroid next to my cervix requires regular scanning and I'll have a section if it doesn't move by 38 weeks. Disappointing as I'd hoped for another uncomplicated natural delivery at the local mw unit - but content to go with the safest option for us both.
Only issue is getting to hospital on time if they recommend a natural labour but not at mw unit as hospital is around an hour away (dc2 labour was 52 mins). Just concentrated the mind a little!
Freelance here so no mat leave as such - will work up to date if possible and then start in a home-based, part time basis from March. Unless baby says otherwise!
Anyway, sending thoughts to you all - hope the next weeks and months go smoothly and happily. And any babies who make an early appearance grow well and make it home to join their families soon x

I lost the old thread as I hadn't posted in so long - hello again!

I might hunt out all the links to previous threads if I remember, they are handy to have.

30+5 here now and first ante-natal class today - I was only one of two Mums (out of about 15) who was on their second or subsequent baby (I'm on no. 3)! A bit embarrassing as I'm also planning a home birth (only one in the room) so m/w kept asking me for my input! I have lots to say about birth and birth choices but I would like some Mummy friends and really hope they all weren't put off by my being asked all the time and didn't think I was a horrible know-it-all!! They all seemed really frightened and wary of what is to comr.

I ordered my tens machine today - it gets delivered 3w before my due date and needs to be returned by 3w after it (although I might need to extend this if I'm late and with Christmas post etc). I've not organised anything else. I need all the basics for my home birth (go on call at 38w) although did get my birth pool back from a friend at the weekend. I also need lots of baby stuff inc. somewhere for it to sleep and a bouncer, , a sling for DH (he won't wear my wrap sling) and basics for me like pjs, pads etc - a huge list of stuff basically. We are saving hard so I can go on a mad spending spree pre baby!! I think because it's my third, I don't have this need to have everything sorted by now and also just don't have the time to get it all sorted between kids, work, house. I finish up for maternity leave at just shy of 37w but then not due back until January 2018, yahoo! I have contacted a childminder re. c/care from January 2018, meeting up with her soon.

Kitkat - I'd have a good think about your promotion chat and make sure you have not been discriminated against due to pregnancy/working p/t. This opportunity should be open to you too, as I understand it. This person doesn't know that you couldn't change your c/care/working pattern for the right job (even if you realistically couldn't in practice).

And lastly, congratulations on your twin girls NotAClue82!!! I wish you and them all the best - and well done on the expressing, keep it up!

Evening all, it's been an absolute age since I last posted. Hope everyone is well and congrats to notaclue! Amazing news. Think I had better get myself organised!!

I've had (knock on wood) quite an easy pregnancy by all accounts - apart from extreme tiredness but I think that's to be expected. I attended a water birth talk at my local hospital (KCH) last night and got to see one of their midwife led birthing rooms which was fantastic. I'm a first timer so am quite nervous about the actual birth and I hate** hospitals but the tour made me feel really positive about what's to come. Have also been reading the Maggie Howell hypnobirthing book which has also helped, though I'm not sure many of the strategies will work for me.

Anyway, all to say I am following along with you all but not the best at posting! Grin

Hi Oriana,

Thanks for the welcome back! I ordered my tens from New Road Clinic (www.newroadclinic.co.uk) - it's £21.50 inc. postage for a 6 week hire (arrives 3w before your due date and you return it 3w afterwards, extension possible if you contact them). I've used them twice before - the service and the tens itself was excellent.
