I hope everyone's okay.
Anyone working full time still? I am powering through this term at school and hoping to at least complete the second half of the Autumn term but need to see how tired I feel.
When's everyone planning on starting their ML?
I'm going to try and go up to 38 weeks.

I had planned to work up til i was 34 weeks then take annual leave. But after spending a week in hospital and on advice from doctors i finished up at 24+5! Feel like a fraud being off so early but needs must.. if I didnt have such a physical job I would have been ok to go back..

Thisisbonkers · 07/10/2016 20:44

Im still full time and will be there until 38 weeks. May regret that but they we are! I don't know whether to ask for a couple of wfh days in my last couple of weeks.

I'm still working full-time Bumbleclat. My official maternity leave doesn't start until 39 weeks (my DH said that was early?!!) but I'm really lucky to have a good chunk of my holiday allowance left so I've got 4 weeks annual leave to use up beforehand so I actually stop work at 35 weeks (so just over 2 weeks to go)!

I worked up until 37 and a half weeks first pregnancy and then DD was born at 39 weeks and I don't think I really gave myself enough of a chance to have a break before the baby was born, or get into the right mindset, so I purposefully planned to stop a bit earlier this time. Plus I think I under-estimated last time just how tired, achey and uncomfortable I would be in that last month before the baby was born.

Nojo82 you're not a fraud at all! There's something lovely about just having to surrender to putting your baby's needs first, I hope you're enjoying restful times.

thisisbonkers sounds like we're in the same boat, I am flexible about the idea of going off earlier than planned if I'm struggling, part of me yearns for a week or so of pottering, meditating and getting my reserves up for labour but it's all so unpredictable I could go off on ML at 38 weeks and still have a month before the baby's born!

kitkat thanks I think I'll try to go off a bit earlier to sort of mentally prepare myself, days can go by at the moment where I forget I'm even pregnant I'm so busy.

bumble I don't finish until the 25th November - 2 weeks leave then mat leave! I work ft hours in 4 days so I'm knackered. I've got odd days off between now and then to use my leave up. I honestly can't wait.

Report
KitKat1985 · 07/10/2016 21:11

It's a tricky one and obviously everyone is different. As I say do be prepared that in that last few weeks sleep becomes really difficult as it's really difficult to get comfortable (plus there's a good chance you'll be getting up to pee a lot) so the tiredness really starts to kick in. Also it's likely you will have lots of general aches and pains in the final stretch, so you might not want to be as active generally. Obviously everyone is different though as I say. My former manager had 4 children and worked up until about 40 weeks each time (but all of her babies were late to be fair)!

I finished last week at 31 weeks. It's what baby and I needed. I am so tired and uncomfortable I don't feel guilty, I wouldn't have added much value at work!

Very exciting new pre-baby purchase arrived today .... a tumble dryer! We don't have anywhere for baby to sleep yet but we do have the ability to dry clothes. Yay!

My mat leave actually starts on my due date, I'm finishing at 38 weeks (well, 37+5 to be precise!) for two weeks annual leave 😳

I'm finishing work at 35 weeks pregnant, 3 weeks annual leave before Mat leave starts officially at 38 weeks! I cannot wait to be done now, I also work full time hours over 4 days and it is a killer lately. Thankfully my last 2 weeks in work are a phased management handover so I only really need to survive the next 3 flying solo! Has everyone decided where baba will be sleeping? Will anyone be putting baby in their own room straight away?

Jfw82 · 07/10/2016 22:02

I'm finishing work at 37 weeks with 2 weeks annual leave so maternity leave officially starts at 39 weeks. Very lucky in that they were so worried about covering my role that my cover started already - October will be intense as very busy time of year and need to train him up but the. Should make my last 3 weeks a lot easier as by them he should be able to take over everything with me only needing to provide guidance (that's the hope at least - knowing my boss they'll find me a 'project' to work on for my last month!)

Report
OrianaBanana · 07/10/2016 23:37

I'm working til 18th Nov - that will be 36 weeks, 2 weeks holiday then ML starts from 38 weeks. Well that's the plan anyway!

Last time I stopped at 36 weeks and had 6 long painful weeks of being pregnant and just waiting, massive and ungainly. Still, work would have been hellish too...

Report
barkingtreefrog · 08/10/2016 06:35

sunny we just bought a tumble dryer as well! On the basis that we want to try reusable nappies I figured it might not work if I'm constantly waiting for them to dry and probably not having space to dry all the extra baby stuff anyway on top of our current washing!

Grapefruit yes, baby coming in with us for the first 4-6 months.

I have two weeks left at work and I can't wait. I'm in so much pain and discomfort I just want to be at home, and I haven't slept through the night for so long I'm just exhausted. Have been awake since the early hours again with really bad back and spd pain. Have tried everything position with all combinations of five pillows and the only position that gave the slightest relief was essentially propping myself up to a sitting position, which meant I couldn't sleep!!
Fortunately the three people they hired to cover my job (?!) have already started, so they're taking a lot of the pressure off while I'm at work. Couldn't have handled my previous work load right now.

sunny tumble drier was by far the best purchase, warm blankets and towels!! Our cosleeper came from Germany yesterday - 3 days early, very exciting. We're off to IKEA today to get DDs wardrobes for her new room - she's also asked to go and get Turnip2 a toy, she wants to buy him a toy train ready for Christmas.

Report
Lovewatchingrainfall · 08/10/2016 07:04

Aww stubble that's so cute of your DD.

I emailed my midwife last night and she called me at 6am this morning to make sure I was okay even tho I was annoyed that I managed to get some sleep. She is going to see me in two weeks earliest appointment to run through what my results were from the scan and to reassure me. She did say like you all did that it's within normal so hang onto that. And they might want to scan me a bit sooner to see what happens but that is down to my consultant not her.

I'm taking mat leave from 37 weeks, working full time with a long commute on an active job...thinking I might be being over ambitious! I enjoy work though so if I finish earlier I think I'll be bored and miss it! Will see how things go.

I'm planning on having baby in same room as me for first few months. I have a Moses basket, cotbed and the sleepyhead so lots of options! Is anyone else planning on using sleepyhead? Where are you putting it? It doesn't fit inside Moses basket!

Report
firawla · 08/10/2016 08:19

I couldn't cope without my tumbe dryer! Definitely a purchse that has been worth it.

We're planning to have the baby in with us in a Moses basket at first, but if our loft conversion over runs (looking fairly likely now sadly) I might have to sleep downstairs with the baby for a couple of weeks. I'm getting one of those Finnish baby box things (this: www.littleun.co.uk) so hope that might come in handy if so!

Congratulations Notaclue! And we'll done on the expressing. I'm sure you're very busy, but I'm sure we'd all love to see you a pic of the girls if you do get a chance Smile

I originally planned to stop work at almost 38 weeks. But I'm 31+4 now and already tired and struggling. I'm a teacher so on my feet a lot and not easy to cut back or take things a bit easy. I think I may now just do a week or 2 after half term, but that would mean stopping at 35/36ish weeks and I don't know if that's too early.

My midwife did say I could easily fill the time by doing lots of reading on hypnobirthing and breastfeeding though, and I do love to read/ research so it sounds tempting!

Apparently the best way to prepare for sleepless nights with a new born is to buy a tiny puppy, according to dp. I couldn't help it, fell in love instantly...

littlebear I'm in the same position, sooo tired and feeling like I'm sort of starting fade and let my class down a bit. I'm lucky I'm that my maternity cover has been shadowing me since the first day back so she won't need as much of a handover when I'm utterly exhausted.

I think our bodies will just tell us when it's time to stop.

I've got a Chico next to me cot that attaches to the side of my bed with the side down so it's like co sleeping without the worry of rolling onto her.

I'm thinking she'll be in the Chico until 6 months then perhaps come into our bed and see how that goes.

Report
OrianaBanana · 08/10/2016 09:53

Bigfam you have a new puppy?? How wonderful (and BRAVE!!). Enjoy!

Baby will be with me in the spare room overnight, hopefully in Moses basket or crib but if not then in the double bed with me. She will have a sleeping bag and I'll have a single duvet. This is until she begins to be able to roll over.

DH is staying in our room (he has CFS so desperately needs his sleep) - hopefully we will be ebf so he can't help anyway and if baby is in with me I'll need the space in bed.

If baby ends up being bottle fed and sleeps elsewhere than in bed with me, we will revisit.

This is what we ended up doing with DS as it was the way everyone got most sleep.
