congrat Katpoo!

Smudgemum! Welcome back and I love the name well done honey!

Im sitting here green with envy lol they just shows a clip of viv off emmerdale giving birth! Im not ever over due yet and Im sooo fed up of waiting!

I got my paracetamol, had a bath, DS is asleep in bed bless him so Im roaming round the house helplessly whinging and growning to myself, using the online contraction timer (v irregular at the moment booo!) DP wants me to ring the midiwfe because of the constant period pain but I dont see no point tbh!

Alocin · 08/02/2007 12:46

Leahsmum - try and roll your hips on it!

snugglebumnappies · 08/02/2007 12:59

Congrats Smudgemum and dad, yet another baby!

Looks like Katpoo is in the race for the next one, nice to hear some hospitals are sensible and don't demand you produce a sprog within 24 hours of waters breaking!

ja(, sure your mum is talking about castor oil, was used frequently for induction in '60s and '70's but aqs suzi2 says stay well away, it will only irritate your bowel, dehydrate you and cause fierce contractions that will do nothing if your cervix isn't ready to dilate. The Evening Primrose is applied to the cervix by piercing the capsules and gently applying to the area with fingers, not sure how much but have been told by midwives who worked in a well known birth center that it does cause a funny greenish staining to the noraml vaginal discharge that can look like meconium, so be careful if you don't want an over zelous doc whipping you round to theatre!!

snugglebumnappies · 08/02/2007 13:00

sorry meant ja9

CanSleepWontStarve · 08/02/2007 13:09

Just popping in from Feb '06 to say congratulations and good luck accordingly to all the Feb '07 mums (to be). DD is one today and it's hard to believe that this time last year I was sucking away on gas and air!

marmitemad · 08/02/2007 13:36

leahsmum,
yes they are worried about pre-eclampsia, although I feel fine and there is no protein. bottom number was around 120 yesterday and has dropped to 109 today, so back to gp tomorrow for another check. feel very bad as have just told my mum that everything is ok - she has had a tendency to panic previously and shes already worrying about my sister who is having abdominal surgery today.
I love sitting on my ball leaning forward onto coffee table (although atm its a battle against ball deflating after yesterdays puncture), just do whatever feels comfy

Congrats Smudgemum and good luck Katpoo,
very exciting reading everyone elses news as I don't feel quite ready yet (guess that will change after DD next wed?), but dh says I am getting obsessed with MN!

ja9 · 08/02/2007 13:41

congrats smudgemum! great news.

anymore for anymore today?

did a MN seach on hte cod liver oil thing and reckon like you say, she actually meant castor oil, and it should be avoided. tho' i am desperate...

peachygirl · 08/02/2007 14:15

Hi everyone Congratulations smudgemum and dad. things much the same here. Was ging out but decided against it due to snow.

Alocin I would be tempted to press for a elective if there is any chance of it. I've said before that the thought of a prolonged labour and then an emergency is just totally abhorrant to me (get her with the big words). It may depend on your consultant though.

keep in there everyone, else especially katpoo.

qsack · 08/02/2007 14:42

congratulations smudgemum and katpoo, sounds like things will be on the move soon. now 40 +2 and still not really any sign of much. MIL staying at them moment and made spicy chilli, gave me pineapple and made me bounce on the gym ball until i had to stop!! still nothing. she's decided to stay an extra night incase it kicks off tonight and she can't get to us to look after the kids incase it snows again. how great is the snow. ds1 desperate to go out and play so we're off into the garden as soon as ds2 wakes up. much as i'd rather stay indoors it'd be pretty mean of me if i didn't let them go out!! looking forward to more news of babiesxx

andyrobo237 · 08/02/2007 15:16

Hooray another baby! Congrats to Smudgemum and it looks like another one or two are on the way! Bubblebell will have had hers (section) and Tuttifruti is down for a section tomorrow! Hopefully news will filter through next week!

Don't all be off having them next week when I am off having my section! Andy by the way - will someone take it upon themselves to update the stats in my absence - cheers!!

Been to MW today for LAST TIME(!!!!) and this LO has finally turned the right way - I thought he had - loads of wriggling over the past few days and I was sure I could feel a foot poking out the top - it was too bony for a head! Everything else is ok -so roll on the 14th!!!

MoosMa · 08/02/2007 15:27

Hello all, have fianally caught up on all the posts. I'm cross again today as yesterday evening LO was happily lying LOP (nearly there!) so I spent the whole night aware of how I was lying so she didn't flip back to my right side and I hardly slept. Then this morning I got up and while walking down the stairs she turned round again and is stuck ROP again. Harrumph.

I told DH that I was in a grump and unless he could magicly turn babies there was nothing he could do to improve my mood! It's really depressing me now and I was nearly in tears about it to my mum earlier as I'm really worried I'll go overdue and be induced again which really doesn't fit with my homebirth plan.

Alocin, is your baby still OP? If it is, maybe it's good that it isn't engaged yet as it will be more likely to turn. If it isn't, then I agree about asking for a cs, if I'd had to have one after all the effort with DD1 I'd have been mighty peed off!

Congratulations Smudgefamily, and good luck Katpoo and others

Alocin · 08/02/2007 15:41

Moosma - baby now left wotsit wotsit so good on that score, just doesnt want to go down!

MoosMa · 08/02/2007 15:54

Oh, and we have no snow here in the soggy south west so am very when I hear everyone else moaning about it!

Sallyallyally · 08/02/2007 16:32

Congrats Smudgemum/dad.

Just back from postmaturity clinic. Doctor did a stretch and sweep (internal exam when, if they can reach the cervix they run fingers around inside if poss to stimulate hormones!). Wasn't too uncomfortable..had DH sitting next to me making jokes about my big pants which strangely enough took away the tension! For those who have read into these things and are interested, cervix is 50% effaced, posterior but a stretchy 3cms. Head is low!!! (Basically, things are starting to kick off, but no promises yet!) Wanted me to go round to labour ward for ARM (breaking waters) but I said no! Frankly if nature is starting to take its course then I'll let it. Going in tomorrow for monitoring if LO not here by then. They've allowed me a weeks grace all things being equal.
Come home, had massive show, and am keeping fingers crossed. (not legs)
Will pop in if contractions start!

forgottenfreetime · 08/02/2007 16:34

Congrats Smudge family! Thanks to everyone re the physiological thrid stage. I was getting confused about the oder of events I think and imaginging cord cut in pool and lots of very red water (not nice)! Now think this would not be up anyones street so must be wrong. Commonsense prevails. Glad to see we all not sleeping - I would be very jealous if I was the only one up. I'm not bothered enough to come onto the computer though I just lie there. Did have lovely snow kicking, snowman making time this am with DS and have pregnancy yoga tonight that I think I will be able to get to. This will be my first comletely relaxing day of ML! Good luck to all those with labour imminent!

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 16:43

Sallyallyally sounds great! a bit shocked they wanted to ARM you at 3cm tbh. Got my sweep booked for tuesday officially, tho' still hoping I won't need it. Quick question Sally; are you likely to already be dilating if you have a show?
FFT pool will likely be grim before 3rd stage, I wouldn't worry about it all. Everyone will be looking at you n bub

Sallyallyally · 08/02/2007 16:52

Our hospital isn't tolerant of people being overdue and like to get inducing ASAP. Fortunately, being in the know I have the confidence to say no, despite the Doctors dire warnings of increased risk of stillbirth etc, so yes..at this place, if they can get in they'll ARM. I don't agree with it
I believe a bloody show can often be the sign of a cervix dilating, but people walk around partially dilated for days!!!! The latent phase takes its own sweet time

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 16:55

Cheers Sally, good luck!

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 16:56

What's partially dilated then? Is that up to 4cm?

Sallyallyally · 08/02/2007 17:00

Yes...the standard tends to be that once your cervix is 4cm and fully effaced (thinned out)onwards then you are in active labour!! xx

babydrivertoo · 08/02/2007 17:28

just popping in - congrats to the next batch of new arrivals and glad that plumpbump's LO is now at home.

noticed the exchanges on waterbirths and 3rd stage etc. As it's fresh in my mind... DS2 was delivered in the pool and I stayed in there while the cord stopped pulsating and then it was cut. After that I wanted to get out, and the pool looked like psycho had been filmed in it. I'd hoped to deliver the placenta unassisted but the contractions stopped completely and despite taking homeopathic remedies and suckling DS, didn't start again so they gave me an injection after 1 hr and the placenta popped out v easily after that. HTH.

fingers crossed for the next batch.

bubblebell1 · 08/02/2007 18:20

hi everyone.

wow cant believe everyone is popping. congratulations to everyone im so pleased.

i had my cs on tuesday it was nowhere near as bad as i thought. it was a really enjoyable experience.

will post story soon am still very tender and sleepy
xx

leahsmum · 08/02/2007 18:21

Sounds exciting sallyally - fingers crossed that things will mayb happen overnight for you.

I have had a right down day 2day. As i said earlier mw was supposed to come and surprise surprise still ahdnt heard from her by lunchtime so I phoned and left a message on the midwife unit answering machine. Finally gets a cfall back at 3.30 saying she had to help out at another clinic and that was her first chance to phone me, but unfortunately she wouldnt make it today - wanted to know if next Tuesday would do! I said that I had waited in all day for her and she didnt even bother to apologise! I am so angry!! So much else I could have been doing today but sitting in waiting on my completely unreliable mw! Anyway I told her that I'm due back at daycare on Tuesday and they wanted her to check my bp 2day - she didnt seem that bothered and said she was off 2morrow but would pop in on Sat morning - made it clear that she better come in the morning cos theres no way I'm wasting my saturday waiting on her to not bother turning up. She said she will def be here between 9 and 10 - we'll see thought not holding my breath. To top it off I then phoned my gp to try and see if he could check my gp - while I was trying unsuccessfully to get through the docs receptionist phoned me to tell me i have a urine infection and could I come and collect a prescription. I told her bout prob with mw and asked if doc could poss check my bp - simple answer 'no they are far too busy today with clinics all afternoon'. Oh well just need to try and make an appointment 2morrow - really want to chat to doc about mw and let him know my concerns about her and ask if I could request that my current mw does not come to my house postnatally - really dont think I could stomach her daily for 10 days - thats if she even bothers to turn up anyway.

Sorry about the long rant I;m just so annoyed with mw 2day - cried for about 10 mins after I got off the phone to her - not even sure why - anger I suppose oh and hormones! Sure my afternoon hasnt done my bp much good.

leahsmum · 08/02/2007 18:21

x posted - Big congratulations Bubblebell!!

peachygirl · 08/02/2007 18:25
