...anyone else getting really ticked off with the "have you had it yet ?" enquiries. I'm running at 3-4 per day at present.. including a friend who I usually talk to on the phone once or maybe twice per year, who has now been on 3 times to see if anything has happened, including texting me at 1:30am yesterday.

And if I should happen to not answer the phone at anyone at any point (I'm in the garden, the bath, asleep, didn't hear it at the bottom of my pocket etc)then I start getting a stream of hysterical calls and messages to call straight back because they are all worried. My gay friend calls up every other day and says "still fat then?".. charming.

It's all just another example of how you suddenly become public property jsut because you are having a baby. Everyone seems to think they have a right to detailed and up to the minute information about your body and your baby. Asking nosy and personal questions seems to be perfectly acceptable to some people, classics include:

  • did you mean to get pregnant ?
  • were you trying long ?
  • you'll be getting married now then ?
  • are you lactating yet / how are your stretch marks / any piles ? ... and my personal favourite....
  • where did you conceive the baby ? You could use that for a name.

I mean really.... rant rant rant

Heehee! So pleased to see others up at 5am .
I'm now sick of Dh asking me every morning if he has to go to work today (meaning is the baby coming) that I've started to announce "todays the day" at 5am every morning just before I get up .
It's official, I'm turning eeeeevil!
I unplugged the phone yesterday and set off hysteria in our families apparently. I'm also ignoring the m/w 's calls as well.

Sallyallyally · 08/02/2007 05:58

Sorky and Suis..fancy a cuppa?
I have the same phone problem...lots of texts carefully worded from 'How are you?' to blatant 'Are you planning on keeping it in there for ever?'. DH got one the other day asking how Snow White and the sleepy dwarf was?!!!! I have been trying to avoid the school run as being treated like a time bomb!!! I too have avoided the phone on occasions and come back to full scale panic and deliveries of hot water and towels

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 06:17

God I'm so pleased we withdrew her from school before Christmas, there's no way I could do the school run now.
I don't fit in my car anymore either.
Dh is taking half day today to spend with the kids as we're limited in what I can manage with them. I want to have this baby so I can function as a parent to my other 2 more than anything else, not that bothered about being big/uncomfortable, more incapacitated really. Off to have tea/toast & lashings of marmalade hmmmm.

julezboo · 08/02/2007 07:37

Hey ladies!

How are we this morning?
Ive had a bad night with pains again. Plus DS had DP up a few times so we are all knackered!
And the worst thing ever! We ran out of paracetamol last night. I have constant period type pain in my lower back and tummy, hoping it things kicking off! Although we may be a bit buggered. We live in a Valley, only one road in and out, we have a couple of inches of snow this morning. Last thing we need.

Im exhausted and teary today could do with hugs!

hope everyone else is ok x x

leahsmum · 08/02/2007 08:40

Goodness!! Every1's been up really early this morning!! Really feel for you that are all overdue now - I've got 6 days to EDD and am fed up never mind baby being late.

Wonder who'll deliver today?

Sallyallyally · 08/02/2007 08:51

julezboo....big hugs xxxx
Hang in there.

Cadbury · 08/02/2007 08:53

julezboo - I have that pain too - ripening pains my midwife called them.

have tried to kick it off with sex again but nothing conclusive - i dids have a romantic dream about the comedian Bill Bailey last night though - is that a sign - and what of?!?

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 08:55

ROFLMAO Cadbury!

Cadbury · 08/02/2007 08:58

dh was laughing too - especially as he looks like Bill Baileys more sane cousin.

Bouncyminky · 08/02/2007 09:53

Good luck to all those with signs of movement.. I can't wait for some myself. It's SO exciting!! and I can't wait to be able to put my own shoes on again!!

I don't know. I don't post for a few days and how many posts are there to read!!!!

I'm much the same as everyone else on here - getting gradually more signs but nothing definite. I had a LOT of squwiggling (is that a word?) on Monday night and some KNUF's. But as you can probably guess seeing as I am posting - nothing came of it. The midwife said the baby was probably just getting into a more comfortable position.

To keep me occupied I went to a home birth session on Tuesday to meet all the midwives in the team, as mine is on holiday at the moment. It was more useful I found for meeting the new mums and seeing that they were coping okay with the sleep deprivation - which is my biggest worry at the moment. I can really see how coffee groups etc can be really useful - I think I may go and try to find one after I've popped.

Anyway as is human nature the midwives started to tell stories of when things had nearly gone wrong until the ladies with bumps said that these stories weren't helping us hugely!!!!!

Hang in there everyone - maybe a snowball fight might get things going?? On your marks, get set........

ja9 · 08/02/2007 10:15

morning. can't believe all those 5am posts. man alive! don't you know you're meant to be stocking up on sleep?

absolutely nothing doing here. this baby is still so highup that i can practically feel i t in my throat. still feeling sick but not been sick today.

my mum mentioned something about cod liver oil helping baby to come out. anyone else heard this. it sounded familiar to me but for some reason there were warning bells along with it too?!

looking forward to hearing about some babies today. surely we'll have a baby today between us all....

suzi2 · 08/02/2007 10:50

I got some better sleep last night - only a few hours of BHs! But feel more shattered today than ever. At my mums so she can deal with DS agian - was hoping to go out for lunch on the way to my mw appointment but dad reckons the roads are still "not looking that clever". We only have and inch or two of snow so not bad at all.

ja9 - perhaps your mum is thinking of castor oil? Not a good idea. It gives your bowel a good clear out and basically irritates the uterus into contracting. Which can cause the baby distress. And isn't very pleasant either I don't believe. OR of course she could be talking about evening primrose oil - the stuff in that is supposed to help ripen the cervix. Not sure if it's better ingested or applied to the cervix itself and I'm not sure how much it really works.

My personal favourite is that champagne helps things along I had a glass when in labour with DS and it did help chill me out a bit. We have a bottle in the fridge just incase this time.

Alocin · 08/02/2007 11:27

oh the rollercoaster of emotions!

Was all set for nice homebirth til yesterday when MW said (am 38+3) that baby is now only 1/5 engaged, she thinks its very big, I'm still measuring big for dates and all this is not good for a homebirth. She muttered about waiting til next week (!) and then going for a growth scan. So of course I went home and searched the net for info and managed to scare myself silly. Please correct me if I'm wrong but from what I gather, if baby continues to be not engaged for whatever reason then I am likely to go overdue, but that induction if not engaged is only 20% successful. So if we get to a growth scan, baby is massive (am 5 foot 2 with size 4 feet)and I go over, will they let me opt for a caesarean? Cant bear the thought of traumatic painful long induction then emergency cs. Advice appreciated!

TuttiFrutti · 08/02/2007 11:46

Julezboo and Cadbury, I know how you feel! Since lunchtime yesterday I have been having constant period-type pain in my lower abdomen and really bad backache, and my bump feels incredibly tender and hurts whenever I move. Turning over in bed is agony, and I was awake from 3am last night trying to find a comfortable position.

MrsJC and Moosma, thanks for the info about the 2/5 engaged thing being over-optimistic - although in my case I think I'd rather hang on till my booked c-section tomorrow morning, so it's probably a good thing nothing major is happening.

Alocin, you have lots of time to go yet so the baby could still become fully engaged. If it doesn't, I have to say I agree with your midwife that it's not a great indicator of success for a homebirth. I was in your position last time round (although not planning a homebirth, but wanted a natural active birth at the hospital) and ended up with a failed induction and emergency cs. It was only afterwards that the doctors told me my chances with a non-engaged baby had only been 20%!

Sorry for long post - kicking my heels today waiting for the trip to hospital tomorrow morning.

SmudgeMum · 08/02/2007 11:48

Smudgemum and Smudgedad are pleased to annouce that it was the real thing and Smudge (Dominic) was born on Monday 5th Feb weighing 8lb 7oz. It was a long experience but we survived. We came home from hospital yesterday and have had a very noisy long night but I'm assured it will be worth it in the end!

I think it'll take me a while to catch up with where you're all at but hope all is well and I look forward to hearing about all the other bump/babies.

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 11:55

Ooh Smudgemum! So pleased for you. Congratulations, I like the name too!

KatPoo · 08/02/2007 11:57

Waters broke 6.30am this morning (8 days early!!! - same as with DS1, weird!!!)
Bin hosp but as no contractions back at home & just waiting. Worse case scenario they will induce me sat am but hope things start theirselves off before then! Plan to chill & sleep as much as possible today!
Keep you posted! xx

leahsmum · 08/02/2007 12:04

Congrats Smudgemum/dad - lovely name - cant wait to read your birth story.

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 12:09

KatPoo · 08/02/2007 12:11
