Congratulations to you too Becs! I really love the name, very very sweet!

soundbites · 06/02/2007 12:48

Hello

Just checking in today. Congratulations Becs! Lovely news and I hope you are enjoying your baby daughter. And this is too late for you to read Bubblebell, but I have been thinking of you today.

I had a little bit of a show today - not as much as some of you are reporting, but it was something. I am 40+5 today so am ever hopeful that something might start to happen, but I also don't want to get overexcited and get my hopes up too much. I went on a long walk this morning - 40 mins there, had some tea & cake at a cafe (I thought I deserved a treat, and as soon as the baby is born I'll be trying to lose weight so I may as well enjoy it now!) and 40 mins home again.

Good luck to all of you who may be starting. Please cross a few fingers for me too!

julezboo · 06/02/2007 14:03

congratulations becs! Love the name!

MrsJ - Im with you on the doppler/ growth scan and kick charts! Im back tomorrow too, usually ends up we spend the afternoon up there! But so long as things are ticking along they are happy for him to stay put! We have low fluid levels here though and a big baby.

Had alot of contractions last night, and the most awful period pain but settled down today, Ive just pottered about and slept and bathed lol!

Cadbury · 06/02/2007 14:08

Hello everyone.

Conratualations becs!

I've beeen having almost permenant braxton hicks all through last night and tried some nipple stimulation in the early hours of the mroinig whiuch made the contractions much more painful. They were about 3 mins apart for a while and as I got up to move about I stared throwing up all over the place. Sadly, this stopped the contractions for a while until some more nipple stimulation but then it all stopped again when I had a shower. I've since tried doing the 45 min school run/walk, bouncing on and over the gym ball, and even managed sex to try and get things going again but now I'm back to permenant tightenings, some painful, some only on one side, some just uncomfortable. I even managed a sleep fr a couple of hours. I really hope that something comes of this - I can't face the school run tomorrow morining with the baby still inside me - mainly becasue of all the comments!

How can I get things going again then? All your best ideas please.

Cadbury · 06/02/2007 14:09

Oh yes, and I'm 40 weeks today. Is it too much to ask for one of my children to turn up on time?

snugglebunny · 06/02/2007 14:26

Hi all - wow - everyone seems to be getting things rolling! Not sure if I'm jealous or down right petrified! :O

No show from me yet, but have had some strange niggly pains (although I could just be imagining them too!)

Spent 2 hours in bed this afternoon - am absolutely knackered and have no energy to do anything! Have also developed a really sweet tooth and want to devour anything remotely sweet tasting!

Exactly one week to go today - getting so very excited now.

Anyone with advise on c-section (before, during and after) for a first timer?

sorkycake · 06/02/2007 14:30

You know what's weird? Everytime I see someone has posted on this thread in active convo's, I think they're announcing they've delivered. I'm going NUTS!

MrsJ · 06/02/2007 15:51

Julezboo- with us fluids fine, they did think the baby was small and were concerned but now say shes under average but ok... But yep same here with the all afternoon thing lol.

Cadbury- No advice I'm afraid but I wish you luck!

qsack · 06/02/2007 16:19

congratulations becs. i'm due today but nothing to report. however spent 3 hrs at day care assesment this morning as baby hadn't moved much for 24hrs. found it all really stressful until i got there and totally fell apart when dh asked if i was ok, my response, 'of course i'm not ok!'. anyway, got strapped to a monitor and he got moving almost straight away, typical but a relief! just feel totally exhausted now from being so anxious and little sleep. oh well, all this talk of 'show's i've never had one or seen mine, they must have come out with my waters so it's all mystery to me!!

good luck everyone who sounds like their on the way.

Cadbury · 06/02/2007 16:54

my midwife has been - I am 2 cm's dliated (at least that's something) and she was able to do a sweep. Have had more irregular tightenings since then but nothing conclusive yet. No show. No idea what to say to my dh about going into work for his big meeting tomorrow, and now the baby has serious hiccups! It really didn't like having it's head touched when the midwife did the sweep and spent the next half hour kicking me to make sure I understood. I really hope something kicks off tonight. Fingers crossed, legs akimbo.

Tommy · 06/02/2007 16:59

It's all getting soooooooo exciting round here - nothing doing here except I bought a couple of sheets for the Moses basket today as DS2 purloined all the ones he had for snugglies and now they just get dragged round with him everywhere.
The woman in John Lewis was very sweet and offered to carry my basket round for me while I shopped. I had to buy cream though which look a bit dirty IMO but they only had pink or blue or white otherwise.

Also have washed all the bits and bobs for the pushchair, moses basket and bouncy chair so I'm more or less ready now.

Baby can come whenever s/he wants

suis · 06/02/2007 17:21

Congratulations Becs ! Lovely name !
I'm getting sooo jealous.. all these people getting ready to go... and me stuck here getting fatter and less mobile by the day, Any signs of actual arrival have all quietened down come to naught. I was so convinced it was going to be early, but now 39+2 so it's not looking likely.
The only excitement I've had all day is taking the cat to the vet with an infected bite wound (it was pretty foul) and with being so big now and having no grip from the carpal tunnel, I totally unable to hold the poor cat or catch him when he hid under chairs and the vet had to go chasing after him.

Well people another day past - another day closer to the big day for all of us. (hope that makes sense)
Spent the morning at day care assessment - bp is still slightly raised but bloods were fine and still only a trace of protein in my urine so they'r not overly concerned. Have to go back next Tuesday if the baby hasnt arrived yet and the consultant wants to do an internal examination then to see if my cervix is favourable for induction - that would mean LO is likely to arrive on his/her due date (valentines day - which I didnt want), however, it will come when it's good and ready and not before. Did hint to the doc that I wouldnt mind an internal today as that could loosen things up and poss start things off - needless to say he didnt take me up on it and made a joke about babies coming when they'r ready - typical man!
Anyway nothing much else happening here apart from the backache that I've had on and off since 5am and the really sore pubic bone (could be down to the sex this pm - poor dp has been deprived for months but I thought that it might kick things off - fingers crossed).
Again - any tips for starting things off at 39 weeks most welcome.
Mears - i did think of asking at daycare but figured that seeing as my unhelpful mw seems to be avoiding it I might as well make sure she does it with me - more to annoy her TBH. Am going to write up my preferences in my notes myself tonight - just incase I dont see Thursday (wishful thinking I know).

snugglebumnappies · 06/02/2007 19:19

Just a quickie to everyone who is batting eyelids at their DP/DH to say I read an article in a Midwifery Journal (last month I think, I will look it out) that looked into research about sex in the third tirmester and length of gestation and actually found that those who indulged had longer pregnancies than those who didn't! Don't want to rain on all these DH/DP's parades but I am so not feeling up to it so when DH goes on about it bringing on labour I just quote my new favorite piece of research! Well we all know that research is only there to manipulate for your own good outcomes!

suzi2 · 06/02/2007 20:33

lol snugglebum... DH has just been wondering when he's getting some and now I have a great excuse. Mind you, I read a piece of research that suggested that the prostaglandins in semen were better used/absorbed through the gut than the vagina. DH still likes to remind me of that research, which I should point out was definately written by a bloke

Sallyallyally · 06/02/2007 20:46

Ahhh...welcome little Tilly. That's fab

Ok...T + 6, no contractions, no show, not even a braxton flippin' hicks. I am entering the competition for who can go furthest overdue

leahsmum · 06/02/2007 20:58

Well ladies I did the deed 2day b4 snugglebum posted her wise piece of research. Since doing the deed my lower backpain has increased tenfold and getting lots of pain just under my bump and pubic area - as mentioned earlier this mayb from my spd - not really sure. Just off to bed incase this is the start of something. Fingers crossed xxxx

babydrivertoo · 06/02/2007 21:00

Hi folks - haven't posted for a few days because...

...DS2 arrived on Sunday afternoon all in a bit of a rush as it happened. I'll put more details on the birth announcements bit, but all went well and I had the water birth I wanted - though it wasn't quite the calm quiet experience I was expecting as it was still bloomin painful and I was yelling like a stuck pig! DS is called Evan David and is doing very well.

Congrats also to becs, and I hope all has gone well for bubblebell.

Will keep popping in here to see how you're all getting on, and will investigate the postnatal threads so hope to see you all there soon!

leahsmum · 06/02/2007 21:16
