Hi

Just added myself, tried my best not to vomit on you all.

EDD 21st dc#3

Currently questioning why we chose to do this again. I'd forgotten just how awful the sickness is. Meet my buddy, The Bucket.

AnnaKateNZ · 27/08/2016 22:14

When is everyone planning on making their pregnancy public. We have told our parents but wanted to wait till the 12 week scan before telling everyone else but after meeting with our midwife she said that we won't get the results from the screening they do at the scan for 7-10 days? Do we now wait till the results come back? I think I will go crazy if I have to keep in in much longer!!

jobrum · 27/08/2016 22:21

anna I'm going as long as I can without telling anyone. At the scan, even though you have to wait for the results of the nuchal test, the sonographer checks that there is nothing 'obviously' wrong. So heartbeat, skull, spine etc. It's a relief when you see a little person wiggling about on the screen and you feel much better about telling people. I've told so far a good friend who is also expecting her second and a couple of managers at work, one of whom is a friend. I like to keep it an exciting secret for as long as possible!

jobrum · 27/08/2016 22:23

Hello to all the recent joiners. Smile

Great news celen!

AnnaKateNZ · 27/08/2016 22:38

Thanks Jobrum That's reassuring. Ever since the midwife mentioned the NT screening I've been stressing about it. I think we will see how we feel after the scan and go from there.

jpeg28 · 27/08/2016 22:41

celen that's amazing news!!! And strubo too!

Welcome to all the newbies!

anna I've told our parents and my closest friends already, I would tell everyone if I could! But I'll wait until 12 weeks before I make it properly public news! It's personal choice though.

No more spotting today thank goodness! Hardly any nausea today... Hope that's a good sign and not my symptoms going away. I really need to be less paranoid!!

naranciata · 27/08/2016 22:56

We've told our parents and our siblings. Three friends have rumbled me (not drinking at weddings and throwing up in my hands at work - high point in life) but I know they won't bring it up with me unless I bring it up with them first.

Going to wait until 12 week scan to tell other people I think. What's the consensus on Facebook announcements? I think they can sometimes seem smug and I know I HATED seeing them when we were TTC but then FB is a good way of reaching people and there are some very cute ideas.

I'll need to tell work pretty soon after that because I'm going away with work to a developing country around 15 weeks and my risk assessment will have to factor in pregnancy-related risks.

A very close friend is having fertility issues and I'm dreading telling her. Any advice?

AnnaKateNZ · 27/08/2016 23:06

Naramciata Yes we have friends who have been trying for three years and I'm dreading telling them. I thinking by text - even though it seems a bit cold at least they can have their reaction, whatever it may be, in private. I'm not sure if that is best or not. Advice would be great.

I'm not a big fan of Facebook announcements, I think we will try and tell people as we see them and message family overseas.

MumiTravels · 27/08/2016 23:19

Yay for wriggly beans.

We haven't told anyone yet. Not even parents until we get some more news.

With DS we didn't announce it on Facebook and I didn't post photos. Close family and friends we told and others just figured it out eventually. It was funny though as I found out so late that my bump just blew up overnight and people who hadn't seen me for a while were like where on earth did that come from. I also didn't look at all pregnant from the back. I don't mind seeing other people's announcements though. Just not ny own.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 27/08/2016 23:28

anna and jobrum - we're very fortunate that at our hospital they process bloods 'while you wait' so we get the full nuchal screening results the same day as the scan. However no concerns were raised at the initial scan and only after the nuchal results came in did they tell us there were various 'soft markers' that raised concerns - so along with the bloods we were high risk for T21 as well as a rarer set of disorders. Perhaps if we'd had to wait for the bloods then they'd have told us about the soft markers at the scan so we had some idea?

Sorry that's not hugely reassuring but given what happened last time I definitely want to wait until we've had any necessary tests before we share the news. Ultimately everything was fine but it was an intensely worrying time!

BertieBotts · 28/08/2016 00:31

Aah lovely pic Celen!!

I think we will tell important people first and then I'll work my way around various friends and we'll do an announcement on FB to catch anyone who was missed and/or to give a blanket kind of "It's OK to mention this on here" to people who might be holding off commenting on FB otherwise.

I also look huge and I think DS has totally twigged but I keep fobbing him off Blush I would like to tell him after we have a scan and see a heartbeat. I think DH wants to wait a bit longer.

naran I would tell your friend privately so it doesn't come as a shock.

BertieBotts · 28/08/2016 00:36

DS has also commented on:

  • Me taking vitamins (magnesium to reduce cramping) "Is that for a baby?" "Hmm yes just in case!"
  • My tummy being three times its normal size "Are you sure there isn't a baby in there?" (Well if there is it would be too tiny anyway, that's just all my food)
  • Not outright commenting but looking suspiciously at me and then giving up when I refused to pick him up (he's half my body weight!) and keep being too tired to read with him at bedtime and going to sleep in the day all the time.
Helbelle75 · 28/08/2016 01:40

Everyone knows we've been trying again after the mc, and I've been really tired and quite nauseous so I'm sure people have guessed, they're just too polite to say! We've told both families and my 2 closest friends as I know that I will need their support should the worst happen.

sarahhh1984 · 28/08/2016 06:12

DH told his boss at work in confidence so he could get time off for our appointments but that's all who know so far.

We're waiting until after our early scan on Thursday to tell our parents and siblings but after that we don't want anyone to know until after the 12 week scan. We've decided not to have the nuchal screening so assuming everything else is OK at 12 weeks we'll just tell others then.

Not doing FB announcements (I'm not on it anyway so that's kits DH and he doesn't want to) so just going to call close friends and family or tell them in person. Anyone else we'll just tell them as we see them!

MyGreenSofa · 28/08/2016 07:06

Congrats on the positive scan news!

I decided to book an early scan for the 11th when I'll be 9+5. I'm getting more nausea now I think and my boobs are still sore - they have definitely grown too as bras now very uncomfortable!

Was out with friends yesterday - think they sussed it when I didn't indulge in any of the really tasty ciders on offer! But they played along.

MyGreenSofa · 28/08/2016 07:14

Oh and I think if the early scan is good news DH will want to tell his parents, which will mean the whole of his family. I'd wait until after 12 week scan to announce generally but as I think mine won't be til the end of the 11-13 week window that wouldn't be til beginning October!

I don't think we will make a FB announcement. We didn't with DD, just waited until she was born. Of course anyone of any consequence knew before then although some people were surprised!

RaRa25 · 28/08/2016 07:17

Welcome to all the new joiners.
We are not having the nuchal scan. I had it the first time, only because I didn't know much about it. my reasons are because even if your results come back as low they are still risks and if it comes back as high it then would make me anxious for the rest of the pregnancy. If it came back as high risk I personally would not be willing to do any further tests.

Also no to Facebook. You will all probably hate me but I find the cutesy announcements a bit cringe to be honest. All I want is a healthy baby at the end and I personally don't want to tempt fate. Also I have friends and family who are going through IVF and for me it would feel insensitive.

Celen · 28/08/2016 07:23

With telling people, we've told people whose support we need if it ends in mc (we've had two mcs and an mmc in two years). It was was really horrible last year to phone up my lovely MIL to ask her to babysit DS while we went to hospital to deal with my mmc Sad

So we've told people who can give us emotional & practical support if it wrong. I won't be announcing on Facebook until it's born.

I've been ttc-ing for 2 years with 3 losses and seeing pregnancy announcements on Facebook can be quite hurtful when it's people who know you've been trying for such a long time. For my friends who have become pregnant while I've been ttc, a text message was perfect - it still stung a bit but I appreciated being told so I could process my feelings in private and then I felt able to congratulate them and be fully supportive.

OP posts:
sarahhh1984 · 28/08/2016 07:25

Don't hate you at all RaRa! Before I left FB I had exactly the same feelings on cutesy announcements!

Although this is my first pregnancy, they're my reasons for not having the nuchal test as well. No matter the outcome I wouldn't have further testing so I don't want to stress myself or DH out needlessly with worry. I can understand why some people want it, it's just not for me.

Celen · 28/08/2016 07:28

Also agree with tempting fate Rara. Facebook can be a wonderful place for reconnecting with people, local info, buying/selling etc - but when you've had trouble getting pregnant or had losses, it can be hugely painful seeing announcements on your feed, even if you're not particularly close to those people.

OP posts:
RaRa25 · 28/08/2016 07:34

I have friends who have done clever announcements of FB but it is just a personal preference, I would'nt want the world and their friends to know about it, (perhaps i need to edit my friend list!) Also I couldn't rube my SIL's face in it ( she has now given up on IVF) I am dreading telling her. Think I am going to tell her soon and give her a bit of time to process it before the rest of the family know. Not sure what the best thing to do is really.
