Crazy that we are onto thread 4 already!

Just starting the 12-week scans, but still feet firmly in the anxiety-ridden first trimester, yikes!

Seen my midwife today at 8+3, where she's based at my GP surgery. Expected it to be the booking in appointment but apparently that is done on the same day as my scan at the hospital. She's sent a referral for both. I will have all my scans and antenatal appointments at one hospital and have the birth at another. I will also be seeing her at the GP surgery at set points throughout the pregnancy. Next time will be at 16 weeks. All seems a bit confusing and disjointed Hmm

Witch91 · 14/07/2016 16:16

The midwife that I saw said there is some new research that someone mentioned to her a couple of weeks ago that people with a higher BMI should take more folic acid and 'I should look into that'... Hmm

I haven't got round to it, and probably won't tbh!

wm3010 · 14/07/2016 17:11

Sienna that sounds very similar to here, and it seems to work OK. I got given a sheet showing all the appointments and what stage they happen as well as location. Essentially scans and booking in one place, routine midwife appointments at local surgery, birth in other hospital. This is my second time though do probably less confusing!

Catlady100 · 14/07/2016 17:26

Hi all, sadly after an early private scan at 10 weeks we found that the pregnancy hadn't progressed past 7 weeks. Hoping for better luck next time 😞

wispaxmas · 14/07/2016 18:02

marjory, I'd consider refusing the GTT if the only indicator was BMI of 30. My BMI is bang on 30 and they only advised GTT for me this time because I had a big baby last time, but when I told them there was never sugars in my wee and Every baby in my family has been in the range of 9-10lbs they told me it was probably an unnecessary thing, that I could cancel it if I wanted, but that they had to refer me for it based on their guidelines.

And I'm so sorry for your loss, catlady! Flowers

OP posts:
wispaxmas · 14/07/2016 18:05

Sienna, the only thing that sounds odd in that to me is the big about booking in and scan being done same day. My booking in was in one hospital, my scans all in another, all community midwife appts are at the GP, and then I'll give birth in a THIRD hospital! Was the same last time except that it was only 2 hospitals instead of 3 Shock

OP posts:
wispaxmas · 14/07/2016 18:09

ifatfirst, non-invasive operable breast cancer is a good diagnosis as far as these things go. Massive shock at the time, but DMIL had the same diagnosis 28 months ago and within 6 months she was almost fully recovered from the operation and reconstruction with absolutely no other treatment necessary. FX you DM is similar in terms of recovery. Flowers

catlady I'm so so sorry, look after yourself Flowers

Evergreen17 · 14/07/2016 18:21

Cat I am so very sorry to hear this. This is the fear so many of us have and so sorry it has happened to you SadSad

Catlady100 · 14/07/2016 18:45

Thanks all and best of luck to you all for healthy pregnancies Smile I'd hardly had any symptoms so now I wonder if that was a sign. Just want to get physically back to normal now. X

Sienna9522 · 14/07/2016 18:51

So sorry catlady, take care Flowers

Ah WM thought I might be the only one, everyone's process on here seems a bit different. Wispa, my thinking too - scan and booking in on one day seems like I'm gona be in for a long day.

CeeCeeEnnEss · 14/07/2016 18:52

So sorry catlady, wishing you well for the future. And ifatfirst sending best wishes to your mum.

I felt better today, much more like myself. I ate some vegetables and some fruit, a treat!

MarjorySunshineDust · 14/07/2016 20:01

catlady so sorry to hear your sad news, all the best for the future Flowers

wispa Yes I am considering declining the gtt. I did decline in previous pregnancy as felt it was unnecessary for the same reasons you outlined above. DD was not a huge baby either. I told the midwife today and she said we can discuss it at 16 week app so will see how I feel about it then.

Blueskies80 · 14/07/2016 20:15

Sorry catlady, such sad news, so sorry for your loss Flowers hope you get some support. Been there and it's horrid. Xxxx

I had my 12 week scan today and delighted to say all is Fine!!!
Baby was waving its arms and legs around! Rather surprisingly I was told my first was low weight for gestation (just under 6lb at 37.5) .. Never been told that before so I have to have two extra scans to check growth. Slightly bizarre as my second was 9lb3. Dated at 27 January which puts me a day ahead of where I thought I was. 12 weeks tomorrow then!

Blueskies80 · 14/07/2016 20:16

And for those who are at Kings, the new fetal medical institute at kings is amazing. Just opened three months ago.

kikisdelivery · 14/07/2016 20:26

Hi everyone! Can I join?

I'm currently 9wk and some amount of days - 5 I think! Scan's booked for 1st August. I keep paranoia-ing myself reading all sorts of stuff about what symptoms I should/shouldn't be feeling...as you can probably gather this is my first pregnancy!

FriendlyGhost · 14/07/2016 20:50

Sorry to hear that Catlady. I hope you're being well looked after.
Welcome newbies Smile
ifatfirst thinking of you and your mum Flowers
I had my booking in appointment today. I'm high risk due to previous humongous baby and because of that I'll likely get a couple of additional scans Smile They want me to do the gtt as dd was 10lbs1oz although apparently it seems unlikely that I had diabetes as she's stayed above the 91st percentile consistently since birth and didn't show a big drop in weight after birth. I think I probably just make big babies! They've also referred me to birth choices so I can confirm if I want a c-section. I feel really pleased I've gone for a different hospital than last time as they were really friendly and I get the same midwife each time. Last time I didn't ever see the same one twice!

LuckyinOctober · 14/07/2016 20:52

welcome kiki, so sorry cat, congrats blue skies. I'm 11 weeks today, have my 12 weeks scan next week and only 2 working days left before then. Really looking forward to the scan to have some more concrete info on viability and dates so I can then tell people - I've managed to keep it to only people close to us and people we met on holiday who we wouldn't see again, but I haven't enjoyed the sense of deceit and secrecy from not telling work people in particular. My Ovia app tells me that 11 weeks along = brussels sprout size. Possibly the least appetizing of the fruit and veg examples it's used so far!

wispaxmas · 14/07/2016 21:07

Ooh, blueskies, good to know, I'm headed there next Friday! And congratulations by the way Grin

OP posts:
Readyfortwo · 14/07/2016 21:49

Great news blueskies!

Friendly- Is ur 10lb1 Dd the 'humongous' baby or did you have another? I'm asking because I assumed I'd get extra scans/earlier induction this time after DS came out at 10lb but the mw just booked me a GTT (I know it wasn't because of that as I had one last time & it was clear). She said I might be able to push for induction at 12 days but they wouldn't do anything else unless advised by a consultant....not really sure how I should progress as very concerned about potential for an even bigger baby this time around!

FriendlyGhost · 14/07/2016 22:18

Ready yes my 10lb1 baby was the humongous one. I'm hoping that no.2 isn't even bigger! I think I come just over the threshold for extra scans and the gtt test as it's anything over 10lbs here. I'm intending to have a c-section again as there's no way in hell i'm going to even try to push out a baby that bigShock

FriendlyGhost · 14/07/2016 22:20

Lucky my app says 11 weeks is the size of a fig. That's a bit nicer!

BohemianRaspberry · 14/07/2016 22:51

Scan booked in 10th August here!

Telling my parents who are visiting tomorrow (as my mother is so nosey she will pressure until she gets the answers she wants) - not really in the mood for their gushing ... and trying to force them to keep their mouths shut.

No bump yet but certainly horribly constipated - I am eating so much fruit and movicol is doing sweet FA Sad

I am so sorry cat Flowers

Readyfortwo · 15/07/2016 03:49

I did manage to push my 10lber friendly big was in labour for days & pushing for nearly 2 hrs in the end. Over 10lb does flag as a risk factor but I think cos everything else was 'normal' they're not that bothered about it. I am pretty bothered tho, they spent 1.5hrs stitching me up afterwards! Sad
