Ready have you told your midwife about your previous experience. If it was traumatic for you and caused damage they should be taking that into account. You're likely to have another big baby so they really should be monitoring you more often after about 28/30 weeks. Maybe mention this? Did you measure big during your pregnancy or was it a surprise at birth? If it was then you've got a good argument that they won't know unless they give you an extra scan or two. Apparently my trust does a tailored growth curve to determine what size is optimal for my body. I didn't have this last time so it will be interesting to see what my levels of normal are.

LondonGirl83 · 15/07/2016 08:53

Hi ladies-- congrats on the positive scans and sorry for the sad news.

What is GTT? I assume from context it has something to do with gestational diabetes but what is the acronym?

Also, is there a size threshold above which they recommend c-section. I know in Italy from my friends that anything over 8lbs is considered large and they will offer c-section as an option. Does the NHS have any specific guidelines?

2ManySweets · 15/07/2016 09:04

Hello folks, jumping over here from the March thread as my previous EDD of 1 March is now 25 February 2017.

I've already got a DD - born February this year by CS so if you work out the dates you might guess I need some handholding! 😶

Have been advised by midwife at booking in appointment that pregnancy is likely to be consultant led. Twelve week scan in mid August feels like a lifetime away. Don't "feel" pregnant at all, so hoping all's well.

Yours anxiously,

2MS x

FriendlyGhost · 15/07/2016 09:14

Welcome 2many. It'll be chaotic but wonderful having two so close together Smile
London the gtt is a glucose tolerance test. It's only needed if you have risk factors such as overweight, family history of diabetes or previous large baby.
I don't think that the bus automatically do c-sections for any size baby. They prefer natural if possible. My last pregnancy labour didn't progress past 5cm dilation so I had one and that's why I want another. Basically some people can give birth to large babies and some people just be a bit of help even with smaller ones.

SkyLucy · 15/07/2016 09:35

Morning everyone, welcome newbies!

9 weeks today....WHEN DOES THE NAUSEA STOP?!?!?!

Sob.

wm3010 · 15/07/2016 09:52

So sorry cat

Sky 9 weeks is supposed to be peak for nausea although mine went on to about 16 weeks last time round. Your chances of miscarriage are less if you have nausea apparently (not sure how true that is but choose to believe it).

wispaxmas · 15/07/2016 09:54

Friendly, that's interesting, I had a surprise massive baby (and 3rd degree tear!) last time and I consistently measured 1-2 weeks BEHIND! And a scan at 30 weeks suggested a bang on average baby. They didn't suggest anything other than gtt for me this time either!

OP posts:
wm3010 · 15/07/2016 10:15

They just don't seem to be able to accurately predict size. Anyone who I know has had a growth scan has had weight predicted inaccurately. Friend who was 43 had growth scans and average size baby predicted - he was 11lb9! Other friend told baby was worryingly small (5lb) was delivered at 38 weeks by c-section and was 7lb.

kikisdelivery · 15/07/2016 10:47

Morning all, thanks for the welcome Smile

Sky I'm 9+5 I think, and my nausea's eased off this week a bit. It now seems to be coming in waves rather than being there constantly. Of course, this now means I'm madly googling whether that's normal or not... but I've decided to just be zen about it over this weekend, because we have visitors who we'll be letting know (mostly because they're here to visit us and go to a beer festival that I won't be partaking in, which they'll find quite odd based on past experience!).

PhoebeGeebee · 15/07/2016 12:54

Fab news blueskies !!

Sienna9522 · 15/07/2016 13:03

8+5 today and nausea seems to have completely subsided since Wednesday when it was awful. I want to feel positive about this but of course I feel completely and utterly panicked that something has gone wrong Sad

FriendlyGhost · 15/07/2016 13:25

I agree wm3010 I had a private scan at 33 weeks last time and my baby was estimated to be just under 8lbs by 40 weeks. I think a tiny difference in measurements either way can really change things.

Ginger06 · 15/07/2016 13:49

Hello everyone I hope you all having better days I am 11+2 but still feeling sick I'm living on fruit and some veg because everything is making me sick. My scan is for next wednesday can't wait to see my little joy of happiness

Readyfortwo · 15/07/2016 13:52

Thanks friendly, maybe I'll try and raise it again at 16wk apt to see if they'll do anything. It's really bothering me, but I know growth scans are pretty inaccurate. Really I just want them to not let me go overdue by that long again (I was induced at 40+14 and had him at 40+16 ). I just think if they'd got him out earlier he would have been a more normal size.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 15/07/2016 13:54

Either 9 weeks or 9+3 today, nausea is in waves, usually it's a sign I need to eat, but it's a constant circle of needing to eat and feeling too sick to eat!
Had to buy new knickers today all my old ones cut in now and I've given up completely on tights until I can fit maternity ones. New bras will be next weeks aim if scan goes ok on Thursday.
I really didn't realise my body would change so quickly.

Hazandduck · 15/07/2016 13:54

Happy Friday yummy mummies to be! Ok so question: I'm just going to start dinner, trying a new spin on one of OH's favourite meals (chicken pie and mash) am gonna try filo pastry as I saw the Lean in 15 guy do recently, and in the spirit of lighter alternatives was thinking of making sweet potato mash instead of regular, I love sweet pots and enjoy them mashed. But I have read vitamin a is harmful and midwife said I should avoid too much vitamin a. Do sweet potatoes have a harmful amount of Vit A in it? Should I stick to safety and have normal mash? Xx

Hazandduck · 15/07/2016 13:55

Ps got my scan letter through today - 27th of July :)

wm3010 · 15/07/2016 13:59

www.babycenter.com/101_the-10-best-foods-for-pregnancy_10392775.bc

This says they are OK Haz, as they are only converted to vitamin A if needed unlike animal protein sources like liver.

twocatsandatoddler · 15/07/2016 14:23

Vitamin A is only harmful from animal sources, plant based sources are fine.

Itslittlek · 15/07/2016 14:35

Hi all,

Good news...all good at my 12 week scan today! Will read back through this new thread to catch up on everyone! X

LondonGirl83 · 15/07/2016 14:43

Congrats its!

Hazandduck · 15/07/2016 14:48

Congrats its what a lovely scan pic! So clear :) x

Hazandduck · 15/07/2016 14:50

Thanks twocats and wm30 I suspected it would be OK as the midwife didn't say about them, but just wanted to check! doing a Google search I found a few articles saying how bad they are in pregnancy, and a few saying how good they are in pregnancy! Bloody Internet 🙄

Tabitha78 · 15/07/2016 16:41

Congratulations its!

divadee · 15/07/2016 17:30

Evening lovely mums to be.

Well nausea is still as bad. The evenings I am terrible and keep dry heaving everywhere. Any unusual smell has me heaving away. When do I start to bloom and glow that's what I want to know????

Stressed with trying to buy a new property as well. And have to leave here in just 6 weeks. So not the relaxing first trimester I had imagined.
