Crazy that we are onto thread 4 already!

Just starting the 12-week scans, but still feet firmly in the anxiety-ridden first trimester, yikes!

twocats I feel massive too! And I weighed myself and put on more than I thought aah! I can't really worry about it though just need to get through the nausea. Fab news that you don't have to hide it for long, I've got 7 more days in work til I go on holiday and my scans just after that so not too bad.

Good news for you spin that's wonderful.

Evergreen17 · 13/07/2016 07:22

Bottom I am 9 weeks today and feel great! Mood and headache have lifted and feel more energetic.

Boobs dont hurt.

I am worried!!! But if it is happening to others at 9 weeks maybe I can relax Confused

Evergreen17 · 13/07/2016 07:27

SadSad I am too worried!!! I have nada symptoms how can I still be pregnant? SadSadSad
3 weeks and 1 day for 12 w scan oh dear

sleepyMe12 · 13/07/2016 07:49

Saving my seat Grin

MarjorySunshineDust · 13/07/2016 07:51

Thanks for updating the mega list Friendly

London I agree with sky about the job, for me it would probably depend on how much I wanted to leave current job etc.

Booking in appointment tomorrow finally, cannot wait to get that sorted!

twocatsandatoddler · 13/07/2016 07:55

evergreen most days I have no symptoms at all. It was the same last time round and I had a healthy pregnancy. It's perfectly normal so don't worry! Your body gets used to the hormones, and the placenta starts to take over. Symptoms will probably come and go - on Saturday I was so exhausted I needed a nap, Sunday felt totally fine, Monday I felt really nauseous for the first time in about 4 weeks, and yesterday was fine again!

FriendlyGhost · 13/07/2016 08:10

I'm also massive. I'm not quite in maternity stuff yet but not far off. Luckily as I'm at home with dd I can get away with leggings and a t-shirt.
jp there's no shame in never having experienced labour. You've made and carried a baby. That's what matters. I've experienced labour and honestly I wish I could go back and have demanded a c-section earlier as my body clearly didn't want to do things 'naturally'. It wasn't fun. I'm choosing a c-section this time.
Evergreen it's really normal for symptoms to come and go at this stage as your body gets used to hormones and the placenta starts to work.
I've got my booking in appointment tomorrow too Marjory.

Evergreen17 · 13/07/2016 08:33

Thanks twocats Smile I hope that is what is going on here Hmm
Thanks friednly I am hoping that this is the case and I just have a very efficient placenta already.

I was absolutely exhausted weeks 5 to 8, so maybe the placenta took everything I had and now is self sufficient Grin

ButtonTum · 13/07/2016 08:45

I may have spoken too soon ever. But of nausea back today and so so tired. Wide awake in middle of the night inexplicably too Sad I guess it's up and down til the placenta does its thing full time now

Dreamingoutloud7 · 13/07/2016 09:03

Wow we move quickly here don't we!
Had my booking in appointment yesterday, as predicted I completely lost it when it came time to do the blood test, mw was lovely though and has given me the forms to take to surgery so dh can be with me to get them done. I now feel so stupid like why didn't I just let her? Stupid phobias Sad

She's put me 3 days ahead of what I thought so apparently I'm 8+2 today, not sure about that so I'm not gonna change anything til we have 12 week scan to confirm...
We have our private scan next Thursday, was going to cancel as it could be close to nhs one but she said bbs prob wouldn't be until I was closer to 14 weeks, I absolutely cannot wait another 6 weeks so we're keeping our private appointment.

LondonGirl83 · 13/07/2016 09:03

I'm not worried about mat leave- firms in my sector have generous allowances and they know they'd have to wave any qualification period if they want to hire me.

I'm much more concerned about changing jobs with a new born. It seems like having colleagues that already know and respect you would be worth a lot when you are adjusting to a major life change like having a new baby.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 13/07/2016 09:05

ever my symptoms come and go so much, today I'm really nauseous and already exhausted but yesterday I barely felt anything, dh continues to assure me my mood swings are still there though Hmm

twocatsandatoddler · 13/07/2016 09:29

london that's definitely something to consider. My employer has been amazingly flexible with letting me return on a 4 day week, and I work slightly odd hours, getting in and leaving early to fit around childcare, and for the first few months I had to work from home a lot as kids pick up loads of bugs when they first start nursery. I wouldn't have considered moving jobs now or before DS but mainly because I don't think I'd be able to find many employers out there who are as flexible as this one (I work for a consultancy so they're used to flexible and home-based working).

I think if you're confident the new employer will be amenable to you balancing work with childcare then I'd go for it - there's never a good time for these things after all - but if you think it'll be a struggle in a new job where you haven't had time to 'prove yourself' then it might not be worth it. Depends on the employer I think!

I think you said before that you had childcare from your mum (was that you?) and if so I guess you won't have the same nursery drop off logistics and sick child considerations as we do!

FriendlyGhost · 13/07/2016 09:37

London I do think knowing your colleagues is important. At this stage you don't know how you are going to feel when you've had your baby. I was very glad my boss knew I was a hard worker and wanted to keep me so that worked in my favour in the later stages of pregnancy when I worked every other day from home, and on my return to work when I negotiated part time hours and had to leave early for childcare. Also when I returned to work I didn't feel my head was quite there for a bit so it was useful to be surrounded by people who knew what I was really capable of. It ended up not working out for me going back for a number of reasons I hadn't anticipated but I'm now on a zero hours contract which again I was offered because they know me and wanted to keep me on in some capacity. Saying that, if it's a really good move and you feel like you can make it work and make an impression before you leave then it may be right for you.

Evergreen17 · 13/07/2016 11:11

Oh no Button! Sad
Dreaming other half said "in my book says that by now it is normal for symptoms to disappear" Hmm His book?
He has actually been reading the book I gave him Grin

Witch91 · 13/07/2016 12:30

Hooray for new thread and epic list of due dates etc!

A number of people have commented about the 'placenta taking over', but I'm not quite sure what that means? What's been happening up to now and what will now happen? Sorry for a stupid question from a 1st timer! Blush

Mysterycat23 · 13/07/2016 12:51

Thanks friendly and wispa Smile

MarjorySunshineDust · 13/07/2016 12:59

Witch I think for the first few weeks the fetus is sustained by the yolk sac, then the placenta takes over that role. It means a change in the amount of hormones in your body which can make you feel less nauseous/tired.

I've definitely got a bit more energy this week but that hasn't stopped me snapping at poor DH! My appetite has decreased the last couple of days too I've noticed.

CeeCeeEnnEss · 13/07/2016 13:01

My symptoms have been coming and going. Last week, nada. This week I've had to work from home because the nausea is so bad!

AshOutside · 13/07/2016 13:13

Hi all, been following this thread for a few weeks now. It's nice to hear so many people supporting each other and good news about symptoms and scans! I am 9 (+4) with DC1 and just got my scan date for 3rd August so very excited!
Sickness has been awful over the past week or so, so I went to the doctors yesterday and got prescribed cyclizine. I'd definitely advise anyone suffering to go as I tried to hold out thinking it will go off soon but it got worse, I took it last night and have woken up feeling like a new person! I was being sick up to 10 times a day but I have been fine all day!
Good luck to everyone! Can't wait to read more scan stories! Smile

wm3010 · 13/07/2016 13:25

Still plenty of nausea here but I am definitely less tired. Welcome Ash - glad you are getting help. I haven't been sick but the nausea alone is bad enough.

Hazandduck · 13/07/2016 13:36

Excellent news Ash! A girl has just brought her 6 month old in to work to see everyone, and a few people who know how broody I am have been telling me to stand near them so it rubs off! I had to try not to smirk knowingly!

Jojoclaire · 13/07/2016 13:45

I'm just back from my private scan (10+6) today. Was so good! Baby exactly measuring to the date and was all over the place, I'm sure it was posing for the "camera" it turned round to face us and started waving!! So cute! DH was slightly in shock again, poor thing, he wishes I was a hamster so this would all be over in a few weeks apparently Grin

On the placenta chat, the sonographer said that it doesn't take over til 16 weeks properly (?) so a few more weeks of up and down sickness apparently. Mine has been on and off again, getting used to it now though Hmm. Tesco mixed nuts and nature valley bars are my best friends...

LondonGirl83 · 13/07/2016 13:45

Twocats that was me! I can't believe you remember that about my mom helping. This thread moves so fast I can hardly keep track.

I don't think I'll move but I think it will be good to make the contact so in a year or more from now, I am positioned well. I don't think they'd hire me pregnant anyhow. I think we both want to just meet and have the contact for the future.

LondonGirl83 · 13/07/2016 13:57

Welcome Ash!

Witch in addition to nourishment coming from the yolk sac, hormones come from the corpus luteum before the placenta takes over. The Corpus Lutuem is that large thing on your ovary after ovulation. You get it every month after ovulation and it keeps progesterone high. If you don't get pregnant it dies and you get your period. However, HCG keeps it alive which in turn keeps progesterone and other hormones pumping in early pregnancy. Eventually the placenta takes over progesterone and other hormone production.

My nausea comes and goes but isn't as bad as it was at its worst. Boobs still hurt a lot and am still fairly tired. My uterus hurts too (not crampy just sore). Also, I've been struggling with diarrhea. I am so very grateful to be pregnant but god its not glamorous at all is it!

When I read on some of the threads what awaits in the 3rd trimester I shudder. Do not look ahead first time mums!
