Crazy that we are onto thread 4 already!

Just starting the 12-week scans, but still feet firmly in the anxiety-ridden first trimester, yikes!

I don't have to pay for photos or parking. The parking situation is pretty dire though so aiming to get there early.
I'm starting to get a little bump but it's still mostly bloating and chocolate. I didn't properly show until after 20 weeks last time.

Evergreen17 · 30/07/2016 05:46

Shell my inly symptoms for pretty much this past 11 weeks and some have been none. Sore boobs, bloated and tired and thirsty.

I saw my bean at 7 weeks, otherwise I have no pregnancy related nada

I dont think they will let us take a pic of the screen for free if they can make £5.50from us Hmm

Readyfortwo · 30/07/2016 07:02

Mine said you weren't allowed phones in the scanning room, and explicitly said no pictures. Clearly depends on how progressive your trust is.

divadee · 30/07/2016 07:31

Our hospital charge £5 for 2 pictures or 5 for £10. Robbing swines!!! I bought 5 so we could give some to our mums.

As for maternity. It's poor for me. 6 weeks 90% of pay and then statutory for the rest of the time up to 9 months. Then the last 3 months is nothing. I will be going back about September I think. Can't afford to be off longer.

2ManySweets · 30/07/2016 07:34

Dutchy do many workplaces have childcare facilities seeing as the paid mat leave is so little? And do some workplaces give you more paid mat leave at their discretion?

might be moving to NL in 2018

Dutchy88 · 30/07/2016 08:57

2ManySweets none of the companies any of my friends work at offer more but I don't know if any do. Also paternity leave for the dads is 3 days. But I suppose 16 weeks of full pay is quite a lot. A lot of parents go back 4 days after they've had children.

There are so many nurseries and childcare provisions to choose from over here, but most aren't at workplaces.

MarjorySunshineDust · 30/07/2016 08:59

During my scan the sonography said she' a few times referring to the baby but think it was just a generic term rather than a clue Smile I cannot wait to find out!

MarjorySunshineDust · 30/07/2016 09:00

wispa I've inboxed you about joining the fb group.

Shellbell0403 · 30/07/2016 09:11

OK random question... do you's feel as though your boobs get smaller during the night and then get bigger again during the day?

2ManySweets · 30/07/2016 09:22

Dutchy that's really good to know. We are thinking of having our third baby (if possible) in 2019 by which time we will have hopefully moved to Rotterdam.

4 days for dads is so little; we knew that and also the childcare provision is very good (in comparison to London) but I'm still quite shocked at the pay only lasting for 12 weeks.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 30/07/2016 09:31

Ooh is there a FB page? How do I join?

Evergreen17 · 30/07/2016 09:49

Silly question here
I am planning on taking all my maternity leave (1 year)
Can my partner take paternity leave as well???
Smile

ScottishSnowflake · 30/07/2016 10:01

Hi Evergreen. I think partners get two weeks SPP as well as your maternity Smile

gumbootsandjandals · 30/07/2016 10:03

Definitely still allergic to plasters/bandaids. Anyone else? Also have a contact allergy to latex and sanitary pad adhesive. Not sure how I will manage post partum.

February 2017 - Thread 4 (are we the chattiest bunch or what?!)
SpinALittleFaster · 30/07/2016 10:24

Looks like we need a new thread already!

evergreen your OH's company will have a paternity leave policy. My DH gets 1 week full pay and 1 week either half or stat. Last time he took 1 week paternity then 2 weeks annual leave but agreed it with his boss upfront so that he didn't have to book the holidays until he needed them.

SBSparkles · 30/07/2016 10:27

Diva mine is similarly bad!! I'm a supply teacher so rubbish benefits! I'm trying to work out how we can live off 130 pounds a week!! Might start planting some more veg in the garden?? Grin

SBSparkles · 30/07/2016 10:28

Also, just wondering anyone here from the Midlands? I'm in Worcester x

ScottishSnowflake · 30/07/2016 10:37

SBS, I'm not to far away from you. I'm Black Country (although not born and bred)

divadee · 30/07/2016 10:38

sparkles I'm in education as well. FE and they are notorious for being as stingy as anything!!!! As I'm on a term time contract I did um and ah about going back for the last couple of weeks of term in June and then have the summer holidays but would feel very cheeky doing that. Also don't know how it works with term time pay. As I work 37 weeks of the year and get a holiday uplift thing. So it might not work any better for me.

SBSparkles · 30/07/2016 10:53

Scottish hehe I can tell by your username! I'm not from Worcester either but still a midlander!
Divadee yeah it's awful really - in Scandinavia they get a full year on full pay with loads of support! We shouldn't have to stress and scrimp when we are raising the new generation!! I think they work out my pay over the 16 weeks before I leave or something and I get 90% of that. Because I'm with an agency they changed who does our payroll do I'm classed as having a new employer! So don't get paid by my job but by government!! It's the same so no point making a fuss! It is a worry though! I don't want to be back at work too early with leaky nipples and wanting to be back at home! Lol! Might look into childminding! Ok essay over x

SBSparkles · 30/07/2016 10:54

May I add only 90% for 6 weeks!! Then statuary!

SausageDogGeorge · 30/07/2016 11:51

I'll get nothing as I'm self employed - if I don't work I don't get paid Shock

Shellbell0403 · 30/07/2016 11:56

My work is three months full, three months half then stat! Hubby can take two weeks.. my works a joke though because if ur on the sick for 6 months get full pay for that 6 months?!

FlipperSkipper · 30/07/2016 12:48

I get 12 weeks full pay, then SMP. I'm pretty pleased with that to be honest, in my old job I'd only have got SMP (by the way, the 6 weeks at 90% is part of SMP).

I've not had to pay for any scan images so far as they've all been in miscarriage clinic or EPAU (I'm 10weeks tomorrow and have had 4 scans already!) and they give you the prints for free, but I think I'll have to pay once I'm in normal antenatal care. I think a token charge is ok to be honest, but £5 is a bit steep.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 30/07/2016 14:13

SBsparkles My place is the same - 6 weeks 90% then SMP. After 9 months nothing!

With DS we had some savings to tide us over do I was able to take 12 full months, the last 3 unpaid. I was also travelling a lot to work and back so saved a lot in petrol while I was off.

This time, not as much savings, having to pay £500pm for DS's nursery fees, and work is only 10 mins away. And to top it off DH's car is on its last legs and looks like it'll need replacing soon! Sad
