Gnat - eek! Good luck, and keep us posted!

Cheery1 · 12/07/2016 17:45

Good luck gnat! Just about to be examined so let's see if this baby is on his way.

beckslovestimmy · 12/07/2016 17:50

Woohoo gnat!!! Good luck!! I found keeping active really helped keep contractions strong and I think it sped up labour. Hope you have your baby very soon.

Good luck cheery! Here's hoping baby is on his/her way!

Cheery1 · 12/07/2016 18:24

bird - Annie is absolutely wonderful! Look at her personality already! And all that dark hair! Can't wait to hear your birth story (I think), hope you're recovering ok and not too sore...

gnat - go go go!

bluebell, mascara, cheery - it's a race to the finish...

I love the heightened tension of the baby countdown mixed in with some thoughtful chat about Theresa May..particularly ironic considering what brought Leadsom down was her cack-handed comments about motherhood. I really hope May lives up to the hype and just does her bloody job basically!

Cookiesandcoffee · 12/07/2016 19:19

Congratulations bird she is beautiful!! And a brilliant weight! Look forward to hearing your story

cheery that's a great score! I think mine was like 1 Blush don't think it will be long for you now! Go go go!!

Eeekk go gnat !!! Loving all this baby excitement!!!

I totally never even shared my birth story! Wasn't sure if those of you booked in for inductions would want to know!

julfin · 12/07/2016 19:28

Congratulations Bird! What a little cherub! Glad you're doing ok. Looking forward to hearing your birth story Confused

Ha ha Elliz glad you're enjoying the "thoughtful chat"! The current madness of British politics is keeping me distracted from my pelvic pain, and vice versa... Funny that your babies will have lived through one more Prime Minister than ours will, by the time they're just a week or two old! My older brother (born in early '79) used to taunt me with this when we were little what a loser.

julfin · 12/07/2016 19:34

Cookies - yes please! I'm booked in now, so would like to know what to expect!

Birth Story

Sunday
4pm -Waters broken by Community Midwife when doing sweep
5pm- Contractions start
11pm - contractions being to get intense and close together and need to start using TENS
1am - contractions 3 in 10mins, lasting 40-60 secs. I am checked by very unsympathetic community Midwife at home and contractions die down. Midwife says I'm only 1-2cm and leaves.
Within the hour contractions are back to 3 in 10, by 5 am I am slightly going out of my mind as I can't lay down, sit down or get into any portion where I am comfy. Pains are very intense. Still on the TENS only. Toying with the idea of going into the hospital but get talked into proceedIng with planned home birth. Unsympathetic midwife comes back... A little more sympathetic this time but I am only 3-4cm at a stretch. Pains still 3 in 10 and intense. No sleep or ability to rest. Contractions for 12 hours at this point.

Monday
9.30am -contractions feel like sharp painful spasms , only happening now on movement of myself or baby and start to die off. No build and irregular.
10.30 Another midwife comes to my home, baby happy but clearly things are not progressing. Tells me to keep using the TENS.... Midwife arranges for me to go into Delivery suite at 4.30pm as I would need to be induced at this point due to waters breaking the day before.
2.30pm comes and I find lots of mucconium on my pad.
3pm- Arrive at Delivery Suite. Assessed and offered pain relief. Started on some Meptid, then gas an air, then advised due to exhaustion to go for an epidural. Although it took 7+ times to site the epidural - the relief was anazing. Finally some sleep!! I had 1:1 care and was given the personal experience...lighting, food and fussed over / support tailored to me. Strangely I got from the midwives on the consultant led delivery suite what I was hoping for from having a home birth.
However at 11pm and 1am not further dilated. Showing infection markers and baby not happy.
So at 2.17am this morning I had my daughter by emergency section. Although it was medicalised and ended in an emergency, it was calm, I felt cared for and actually felt the experience once I got to the hospital to be a positive experience. Sadly, Can't say the same about the community midwives.... I was in lots pain and just left with no plan as to when I should call them again. No information. Just try and get done rests they said.

So currently sat on the postnatal ward. Sore but fairly content, baby sleeping next to me. Hopefully we can both go home tomorrow, that would be nice!!!

AnnaT45 · 12/07/2016 22:35

Congrats Bird. Gorgeous Annie looks lovely!
Your birth sounds quite similar to my first one. My advice is rest up and get the painkillers down you, it's so important to take it easy this first week or so. I hope you're feeling ok?

I'm going to struggle to read everything from today, I apologise. But Blue and Mascara I hope you're doing well? And to anyone else in the throes of labour good luck, you can do it!

My darling mum passed over earlier this afternoon. It was very peaceful and I had the privilege of holding her hand whilst she went. I'm incredibly sad but also pleased she is at peace. I've spent this evening crying loads and being a bit angry with the timing, but she's watching over me and I've negotiated a sleeper this time round because of it. I have the most amazing family and friends looking after me and im so honoured to have had such a special lady as my mum. I know this thread is all about life coming into the world but in a weird way I feel like one life must go for another to begin which is how I'm looking at mum and my baby.

Thank you all for your lovely messages during this time, you've all been incredible and let me use this thread to get things off my chest. Xxx

beckslovestimmy · 12/07/2016 22:56

Thinking of you tonight Anna. I'm glad her passing was peaceful and that you were with her.

beckslovestimmy · 12/07/2016 22:58

Bird well done. Congratulations. Shame about the community midwives but glad the experience as a whole was positive. Rest up and take those painkillers hoping your home soon.

julfin · 12/07/2016 23:00

Oh Anna, I'm sorry. But I'm glad that your mother passed away peacefully, and that you had been able to say your goodbyes. There is a sort of symmetry in life I think. And although your mother wasn't able to meet your little one, it was nice to hear that she liked to touch your bump during her last few days, and that you were able to spend that time with her - I'm sure it will have meant so much to her. My thoughts are with you and your family xx

Bird - thank you for sharing. The community care sounds less than ideal, but I'm glad that you got the care you needed in the end, and that all's well now.

tams13 · 12/07/2016 23:19

I'm so sorry to hear your news anna. So sad. Glad you were able to be there with your mum though and that she was peaceful. Thinking of you and your family.

Congratulations bird. She's lovely! Sounds like the plan went totally out the window but still overall a pretty positive experience. Just a shame about the community midwife.

Good luck gnat.

dats · 12/07/2016 23:34

Oh Anna, sending you lots of love at such a sad time. I completely agree about the life and death symmetry. Beauty in the natural order of things. Close friend's mum died a couple of weeks ago and DD's cousin born the same time so I was buying cards for both and it really made me think... But anger so natural, too - such heartbreaking timing. These next few weeks and months will certainly be emotional for you, but you've been immensely brave in facing your feelings which can only stand you in good stead. Keep talking - sleep well to your lovely mum xxx

Liz09 · 13/07/2016 05:19

So sorry, Anna. Flowers I'm glad that you got to be with her when she passed and that it was peaceful.

And congrats Bird; she's just gorgeous. Check out those cheeks!

We've finally picked names. I was starting to think I was going to be one of those mothers who didn't name their babies until they needed to be registered. Tomorrow will be 39 weeks and the date that husband predicted the baby would be here. Good joke.

pulpi · 13/07/2016 05:51

Anna, so sorry to hear that your mom has passed, but I'm glad you were there with her and it was so very peaceful. Hold fast to those closest to you and give yourself room and permission to feel however you need to feel.

Bird - that's one heck of a birth story! Glad to hear both you and your wee girl are doing well!

Hope everything is going okay, gnat!

Liz, my DH has also predicted 13 July, but I laughed right to his face on that one. No show, although he's dropped a bit, and no cramping or contractions. I figure I've got another week left, but more likely it'll be two weeks before this one makes an appearance. Good joke indeed.

38+6

Liz09 · 13/07/2016 05:56

pulpi Haha, glad we're in the same boat. I brought up his prediction this morning and he just said, "Yeah, I think there are better chances of a pig sprouting wings and flying to Mars", so that about sums it up.
