That's how I felt cheery, at least you haven't got much time to think about it now!!

Cheery1 · 11/07/2016 14:37

I'm ok dats just getting used to the idea of being on the ward not the lovely birthing suite. Think the midwife was pretty shocked when scan said he was already likely 9.5 pounds! I'm quite small so think it's for the best.
mascara - exactly! No time to get anxious is sometimes best!

primarynoodle · 11/07/2016 14:41

Cheery - i know its not ideal but at least theres a plan in place and also i was in the midwife led unit but dd had meconium in her waters. Cue me bring wheeled butt naked and contracting through the labour ward... so you never know where youd have ended up anyway!

Cheery1 · 11/07/2016 14:45

Ah, thanks primary! There are no set plans eh?!

mascaraisamust · 11/07/2016 15:06

My midwife told me this morning that the induction suite is really nice and has lots of facilities, hope yours is too! X

photographerlady · 11/07/2016 16:02

mascaraisamust I am eating my way through mine as well :)

Bluebell Hope things are going well. Thinking of you today and hope the communication is a bit better this morning than yesterday.

I am in full pineapple, fruit and curry mode. T-minus 3 days til my induction. DH is keeping me busy but today I had quite the lazy afternoon. Just didn't have the energy to do anything.

41+2

Cheery1 · 11/07/2016 16:25

mascara Think I'll be on the ward for quite a bit and then on the delivery suite which is pretty nice so all will be fine I'm sure!

Cheery1 · 11/07/2016 16:47

Anna - sending love to you and your family. xxx

gnat99 · 11/07/2016 16:49

Goodness Cheery that's a bit of news! Hopefully the shock has died down a bit by now and you will be Miss Zen by tomorrow. Please take the advice given by the ladies so far - just try and go with it - if your baby is so big he might well be nearly ready to pop out anyway so the induction should go swimmingly! (Although not actually swimmingly, sadly Wink).

I too would far prefer a midwife led birth, but if they tell me at my 41 week appointment on Wed that induction is better for me and baby, then that's certainly a route I will willingly take.

Only update here is that I think the spotting that started on Saturday was actually my mucous plug starting to go, as its continued to appear but in steadily more mucousy fashion... No other symptoms really. If anything, my pelvic pain is lessening since last week, although baby still seems low down and leaning to the right a lot as before. Perhaps I've finally managed to rest more without realising it. Although now that Wimbledon is over, there is definitely less incentive to stay on sofa instead of tidying and clearing the flat.

What else? I'm so impressed at those if you who've managed to follow the postnatal thread as well as this one - I'm finding it hard enough to manage this!! Will check in soon. Am having real trouble imagininf that soon I will be 'postnatal'. It all seems a bit surreal still, notwithstanding the mucous plug factor....

Bird, that is amazing about your waters breaking! I know they say it can happen, but obviously not v often by your midwife's reaction. Hopefully you are happily giving birth to bubs right now, or even snuggling happily in recovery. And Blubell too! Can't wait for news of you both GrinGrin

As for food bags, mine sounds quite similar - I've got a mix of health bars too - Nakd, Eat Natural, and some Quinoa ones I came across in H&B - maybe the same ones Elliz mentioned... Also some Bounty and Snickers, some dried figs and some decaf and herbal tea bags. Waiting in the fridge is some coconut water, and elderflower cordial, and when the time comes will add clementines and grapes and some sandwiches.

I am only starting to wind down now really. Went for last Pilates class on Wed and last swim today. If still ok tomorrow will go to yoga class as it will help with relaxation/stretching/breathing when I need it most! Have finally stopped making social plans, though I may venture out to NCT coffee tomorrow too. We'll see.

Julfin, I keep meaning to write about DH's anxiety, in case it makes you feel better! He hasn't been like this consistently through the pregnancy, and he really does want this baby and has been as excited as me. But he has been up and down a lot in general and is certainly letting his worries get the better of him again as the birth approaches, and it's really not helping me! I need him to be calm and relaxed and organised just now, not distracted and exhausted with his mind racing, so I have to tell him everything 3 times over. I find myself constantly reassuring him instead of the other way round. Confused

Pulpi and Kaytee, I can't believe people have been that rude and horrible to you. I've been quite lucky really. Until that stranger in Asda yesterday put her hand on my belly and said 'boy?'. Angry

Anna, am thinking of you, and your lovely mum, whatever the day may bring. Love the image you described of her lying there with her hand on your bump. Hope you get your spa day - you certainly need and deserve it.

Finally - I too have been craving ice cream! tried to buy the Haagen Daz salted caramel yesterday after your recommendations, I even found it in Asda. So pleased initially, but then I noticed that the freezer section it was in was all frosted up as though something was wrong with the thermostat, or it had defrosted and re-chilled or something. So I was too scared to buy it. Maybe next time I'll get lucky...

Allthegood, think it was you who posted the funny image about people constantly asking if baby's arrived? I feel your frustration.
WE'LL TELL YOU WHEN THE BABY ARRIVES, PEOPLE!

Right, this is getting long. Better post. Sorry to everyone I've missed out. And good luck to all!

Gnat 40+5

dats · 11/07/2016 16:57

Coconut water! That's what I need gnat, thank you!

gnat99 · 11/07/2016 17:18

Glad to have set off a reminder Dats :) How are the domestic transformations coming along?

MrsRolly · 11/07/2016 18:21

hey ladies,

Long afternoon at the day assessment but they were very lovely and I didn't feel like I wasted anyone's time but in hindsight I do wish I had asked DH to come with me.

I was offered an induction tomorrow which I turned down but if I get any more reduced movements I have to go in and be induced.

Growth Scan and Movement monitor showed all was well and they gave me a sweep and sent me on my way so waiting to see if that starts anything! Have had a fair amount of bleeding and the registrar wants me to have two a week until I go into labour. They couldn't measure the size of the head as he was too far engaged so hoping that is a good sign..

Have midwife tomorrow so will see what she says but also open pass back onto the induction/day assessment unit which is nice. We don't have a midwife led centre but I am still leaning towards a home birth if I can.

Hoping I don't know go overdue and end up being induced anyway and look back in regret at the offer of being induced now!

Cheery & Mascara will be exciting to think in 48 hours or so your babies will be here :)

dats · 11/07/2016 18:37

gnat had DD today so no progress. Unless you count Playdoh Smile Although after yesterday's tennis elbow, I made DP go and buy me an electric screwdriver so I'm going to build another cupboard while he does bathtime!

Cheery glad you're cool with things. I'm the same in terms of a plan, what can you do?!

MrsRolly phew glad things are all ok. I'm a bit concerned that I'll be in a similar boat. Having been trying to keep my legs crossed, now I'm 39+1 I suddenly got the fear that I might go overdue and be pressured into induction, due to my age. I think my local policy is that they'll allow you to go to 41w but that probably doesn't apply to old biddies. Like you, I'll try and fend them off unless there's a genuine concern, because I am also planning on a homebirth.

Cheery1 · 11/07/2016 18:38

Thanks gnat! I'm ok, getting used to the whole idea now - probably should've thought more about induction scenario but thought I had another 10 days! Going with the flow Smile

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 11/07/2016 18:41

Bluebell I really hope you are in labour now or enjoying newborn squishes.

Bird fab that your waters have gone. Hopefully won't be long now.

Gnat Monty-Beau has met his brothers and they adore him. The older two want to hold him all the time. Teddy is being lovely with him. He makes me laugh. Every time Monty wakes Teddy says "mummy get your boob out as he needs to eat you".
Spotting is how my labour all kicked off. Fingers crossed for you.

Photographer my cervix was really high and posterior even at the beginning of labour they had to bring it forward when breaking my waters.

Anna thinking of you lovely. Your strength and positive outlook is truly awe inspiring.

Cheery ooh you get to meet your baby soon. Exciting. Hope everything goes well tomorrow.

For those talking about labour bags I found lots of snacks were used after birth rather than during labour. I get really hungry feeding. Dried apricots a big hit here as they also get things moving for that lovely first post birth poop.

Anyone having an induction or c section please don't think it means your birth will be any less special. I've had four very different births and all were pretty positive. I had forceps with ds1 it wasn't ideal but it certainly wasn't a bad birth experience. With ds3 I wanted the water birth but the hospital had no pools available so I had him on a bed on all fours for most of labour then turned onto my back for the crowning. I felt so empowered as I felt everything with ds3.

Hope there are some more babies arriving soon.

Photographer I'm still hopeful labour will start tonight! But think I'm being a bit too optimistic. What will be will be right?! Can't plan these things I guess. Birth plan has gone completely out of the window! Time to go with the flow. Confused

julfin · 11/07/2016 19:13

Thanks ladies for the advice re food! Have added some things to my list.

Rolly - glad your assessment went well and set your mind at rest. Fingers crossed that things start moving for you soon.

Liz - sorry you're suffering - hope it improves soon. End of work so close - whoop whoop!

Gnat - sorry you're having to reassure DH rather than the other way round. Frustrating, and I sympathise. But on the positive side, his anxiety is a sign that he cares. Gosh, 40+5 eh? Good luck!

Beaut - gorgeous boy! Love the picture of you two together.

Dats - impressed that you're still building furniture. I'm struggling to bend over nowadays so I think that would rule me out of the ikea game.

Anna - thinking of you, your ma and your family x

Bluebell and Bird - hope you're doing ok - looking forward to hearing from you on the other side!

Cheery and mascara - all the very best for tomorrow!

Sounds as if there are quite a few people on the cusp now. Exciting! Good luck everyone!

I was running late for my neuro (epilepsy) check-up this morning, so power-walked all the way there (half an hour). Regretted it immediately - it feels as if I've dislocated both hips and my bum! I think my hips had been seriously loosening over the last couple of weeks anyway, and now it feels as if they're ready for the baby to just fall out (wishful thinking - wouldn't that be nice?!) My favourite word at the moment seems to be "Oof", every time I move.

gnat99 · 12/07/2016 05:01

Beautician - delighted to hear your boys have taken to Monty-Beau so well - thanks for more gorgeous photos! Thanks as well for mentioning all your positive birth experiences - it's very reassuring for us first timers. Are you home now and enjoying settling in?

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes. The second year of marriage will definitely be very different from the first Wink

Julfin - thanks for sympathy - and I can relate to the oof noises btw!

Mrs Rolly - so pleased that the day unit monitoring reassured you and everything is alright. Good luck and fingers crossed for the home birth.

Liz - I have had mouth ulcers the last few days too! Seem to have cleared up now so fingers crossed. Hope yours do too.

Mascara, Bird and Bluebell - hope babies are happening out there!

Photographer - must be induction day minus 2 now... Still time for something to happen! Fingers crossed for you.

I'm in a bit of confusion right now - am starting to wonder if I'm in labour..... We dtd last night, and when I woke for a pee at 3ish, I saw some light spotting - think that can be normal at this stage? But I've been awake ever since and feel a bit leaky. Can't tell if it's waters breaking or just more post-sex erm, moistness. Also I have pain that feels like trapped wind. Could easily be just trapped wind.... DH is fast asleep here next to me, totally oblivious to my dilemma.

Didn't think dtd would bring results so quickly! Blush If it has, I wish we'd waited till the morning, as now I've had less than 3 hours sleep.

beckslovestimmy · 12/07/2016 05:26

Gnat, DTD started labour for me with DD, as soon as we'd finished and erm cleaned up. I'd just laid down and contractions started as waves of mild back pain. I stayed up all night thinking is it/isn't it. In hindsight I should have stayed in bed as DD was born at 4pm the next day. Take some paracetamol and try and get some rest for now. If it is labour you'll need all your energy. Good luck!! I've got my fingers crossed for you.

gnat99 · 12/07/2016 05:36

Thanks Becks! Very useful to know. Am trying to rest but easier said than done! I might ring the maternity assessment line shortly.

Cheery1 · 12/07/2016 07:24

Oooo good luck Gnat! Xxx

dats · 12/07/2016 07:39

Good luck gnat! (for arrival of baby or poo! Grin) xx

MrsRolly · 12/07/2016 08:04

Good Luck Gnat!

pulpi · 12/07/2016 08:49

Good luck gnat!

gnat99 · 12/07/2016 09:07

Ha ha Dats - I did have a little poo actually!

Thanks for all the cheering ladies. No dramatic news yet I'm afraid - leaking stopped but I phoned the assessment line anyway to be sure. Because I'm not having any obvious regular contractions and the leaking wasn't too much and hasn't continued, they decided it was probably just normal discharge caused by sex as well as advanced pregnancy, but said to monitor it. They told me to put on a fresh sanitary towel and try to stay sitting for 2-4 hours to see if that helps ascertain what's going on - she said something about the juices 'collecting' before I stand up. Lovely. Not sure what that's supposed to prove, but I guess I have a midwife appointment tomorrow with sweep, so hopefully will get more idea then what this body of mine is doing!

In meantime I have to be good and sit - does that mean I can sleep as long as I'm sitting, I wonder?!

Happy Tuesday ladies.
