Congrats Gnatt!

Just had another sweep and no progress made after 3 gels so no chance of waters been broken or going on the drip. Got to wait to see a doctor tomorrow and they will decide whether a fourth is needed. Luckily it's quiet tonight so hopefully I'll get some sleep. Shattered.

dats · 13/07/2016 22:42

gnat!!!! She's brilliant, well done! Glorious name. Sleep tight, mummy! Flowers

dats · 13/07/2016 22:43

mascara hope you get some rest and there's a decision for you tomor.

gnat99 · 14/07/2016 00:12

Good luck for tomorrow, Mascara!

Will be crossing fingers for you.

julfin · 14/07/2016 00:50

Congratulations Gnat and Cheery!

Loving the various baby pictures. Keep them coming, ladies!

So erm I think my waters have broken. Have been having occasional spasms and sudden short sharp pains in my uterus region during the day - not at all regular. Had a gush of white liquid in my knickers around 23.15 this eve. And now I've got a solid pain like a period pain. Whaddya reckon?

Maybe it's just the excitement of a new prime minister Wink

Have gone to bed and will try to sleep, and just see what happens. I have a MW appointment in the morning anyway.

Hard to stop wriggling though.

julfin · 14/07/2016 00:53

Good luck tomorrow, Photographer! And fingers crossed for you too, Mascara! xx

beckslovestimmy · 14/07/2016 02:52

Ooh sounds promising julfin. Try to sleep and hopefully things are happening for you!!

gnat99 · 14/07/2016 03:18

Ooh, Julfin - that does sound promising! Hope mw appointment goes well.

tams13 · 14/07/2016 07:32

cookies it sounds like you had a complete roller coaster of a birth. What's this becoming less dilated about - not helpful cervix! Glad she arrived safe and you managed to push her out after all that drama. Go you!

dats thank you for being sympathetic and supportive. I still feel daft and selfish but had a bit of a cry yesterday with dh and talked about how I was feeling. Part of it is probably because I was so convinced I'd go early but with edd tomorrow it looks like that won't be true. Feeling a bit better about it this morning and know there isn't really anything I can do. Worry what I'll be like if I do have to go to 42 weeks though. Sounds like you're having some cupboard progress. Still impressed that you're putting together a kitchen at this stage! Hope the midwife goes well today and enjoy snuggles with your friend's new baby.

gnat huge congratulations. That's a gorgeous photo too! Looking forward to hearing your story when you get a chance.

photographer good luck today. Got my fingers crossed for a quicker experience this time. Hope you managed to get some sleep/rest last night.

mascara poor you. You must be shattered after all this gel and waiting. Hoping for some more positive news for you today. Did you manage to get any sleep?

julfin how exciting! Fingers crossed this is it!

pulpi · 14/07/2016 07:38

Congrats gnat!

dats · 14/07/2016 08:05

julfin good luck! We're so close in EDD it made me go 'eek'!

tams it must be so frustrating if you just want the babe to show up, already. Are you finding it tough physically, or what? What distraction tactics can you deploy? I recommend a kitchen renovation Wink

tams13 · 14/07/2016 08:39

dats not really struggled physically at all so I've been lucky. It was only the complete exhaustion at the beginning and barrel ankles when I was close to finishing work and both of those are gone now. Not entirely sure what's causing this. Maybe I didn't mentally prepare to go beyond 38-39 weeks. I've gone from one extreme to the other recently (from thinking I'd have a baby by now to thinking that I'll end up with an induction). I struggled with finishing work too because I felt fine. It's better this week now that I'm getting into the swing of it but I felt useless and like I had nothing to do last week. Don't think dh would thank me if I started ripping the kitchen apart though! Maybe I'll settle for cleaning the oven again. Hmm

dats · 14/07/2016 08:47

I can identify with the feeling lost and useless. It's a big thing with your first, when you've been used to the routine of working and a sense of belonging and being expected to show up somewhere every morning.

If you can, try to think of some nice treat things to do while baby is tucked inside. Browsing in shops, going to the cinema, just wandering...or doing housework or making stuff. It sounds really trite but without wanting to come over all 'do it while you can because mayhem is about to ensue', this is you-time (bleurgh) that you won't have back for a while so try and give yourself something nice while it's easy. I'm finding his much closer easier with my second, mostly because DD showed up early and I felt very short-changed with my 5 days mat leave! I am milking it as hard as I can this time around! xx

dats · 14/07/2016 08:48

I have no idea what his much closer easier means Hmm

foobio · 14/07/2016 09:21

Wahey, congratulations gnat & cheery, and waving pompoms for quick and easy progress for mascara, photographer and julfin.

Still no progress to report here except low down general cramping and the occasional sharp twinge, but they last too long to be a contraction so think it is just baby pressing on my poor battered cervix. I've given up any faith in sweeps, they just make me feel uncomfortable for 12 hrs.

Glad you're finding it much closer easier this time dats. Not sure that your renovations can be classed as 'milking it as hard as you can' though. Wink Feeling more positive today so we'll just see how it goes. I'm sure I'm going to wish for a bit of time once the baby is here and I'm in the swing of it!

Oh dear foobio. Are you still getting the cramps after the latest sweep? Have you got another midwife appointment soon or is there a plan for what comes next? It sounds like the baby is just a bit too comfy where it is!

foobio · 14/07/2016 10:58

Feeling completely normal today! Next step is induction booked for Saturday, but since they moved my EDD forward by 3 days at the first scan, I'm going to ask to delay it until Mon/Tues as long as baby is still happy in there. Think they'll monitor me daily to keep an eye on things.

Won't steal the MN announcement, but there's just been a last minute inducton-avoiding baby on the facebook group, so there is hope for me yet!

Julfin I wonder if that power walk to your appointment the other day is what started things for you. My labour started after a crazy walk home from collecting Teddy at nursery and going to the school to get the older boys who had already left. I've never moved so fast.

Gnat yes I came home on Sunday afternoon. It's going ok so far the only thing is it's hard to do anything with Teddy when Monty is attached to my boob.
Huge Congratulations. Love her name. What a dot considering she's a week over due.

Cheery huge congratulations to you too. I hope you are enjoying newborn snuggles soon.

Cookies wow quite a birth story there. Seems like these babies are taking there time once labour eventually starts for a lot of us on here.

Mascara I really hope once your labour actually gets started its nice and easy for you. You deserve it. You must be exhausted.

Bluebell where are you? I keep checking for your baby news.

My milk monster has decided that today he wants to put his order in every two hours. This is hard going I'm soooo tired.

mascaraisamust · 14/07/2016 11:20

Fourth gel now given (I thought three was the max??). Now waiting to see if it works. Hope they can break my waters later so labour can actually start Sad can't believe it's taken this long just to try and get some dilation. Really thought I'd have a c section this morning after three unsuccessful attempts.

MrsRolly · 14/07/2016 11:44

Mascara you must be exhausted! Hope you get going soon!

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 14/07/2016 11:52

Mascara what do you want?? Make it clear to them. Don't ask demand. I was 3cm dilated for 7 hours and they wanted me to go home. I refused as my labour pains were intense even the midwife agreed on that from them showing on the monitor. I said I wanted my waters broken and if not I would camp out in their reception.

tams13 · 14/07/2016 12:24

Fingers crossed for another pre-induction baby then foobio.

Oh mascara I'm so sorry you're still being gelled up. Have you spoken to any of the midwives about the time it's taking. Good advice from beautician. Have a think about what you'd like and have a chat with one of the midwives you like.

Ellizardo · 14/07/2016 12:42

mascara - with ted i had three rounds of gel etc hence the 'tight as a packet of polos' comment and them offering me a csection (which i took). i just couldn't face being discharged and coming back a week later to go through it all again. as beaut says...what do you want at this stage? good luck!

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 14/07/2016 12:44

I'm angry for you Mascara sorry to swear but they need to get the fuck on with it. You must be sore by now. Remember it's your body. Midwifes piss me off sometimes. I even had one try to tell me at 6 cms I didn't need gas & air. Err excuse me love fourth child I think I know what pain relief I do and don't need by now. I actually told a midwife to fuck off this time. I liked her but the gas and air went to my head.

dats · 14/07/2016 14:12

beaut Grin

mascara hope you get a resolution, soon. I agree, it's not ideal - if they gave you a bit more info a made you feel like you had a choice it might help.

I'm just back from midwife. All ok with usual checks, she couldn't really feel head at all so pretty much fully engaged. I've got an appt at the day assessment clinic at the hosp on Tues morning when I'll be 40+2 to basically make a plan and prob a sweep if I want one. There's all this uncertainty about inductions for over-40s. They 'like' to induce you on your due date - in fact in my notes a consultant has written 'offer induction on due date' but no-one actually followed that up with an appointment until today Hmm I just don't want to feel pressured into anything without good reason. I'm just not sure if they'll let me go too far over. Or maybe it won't come to that. It's a really grey area because research is far from conclusive and midwives don't really know what to advise. Trying to be Zen about it!
