I know but if the pains okay tomorrow then surely I can go?

Ive missed about two weeks since going back since xmas hols and they keep bringing out my full sickness record since I started there 4 years ago which panics me. I dont know if i can self certify as it being pregnancy related and hospital didnt give me a drs note or anything...

Pinklily1 · 27/04/2016 22:16

Nev, when you say they keep bringing your sickness record out, do you mean they keep referring to it? Have they been funny with you about your sickness?

If I were you and I woke up feeling ok, I would go into work, but I'd wait and see how you are in the morning.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 27/04/2016 22:22

nev hope you're feeling better soon mate. Flowers

Nevlet · 27/04/2016 22:22

Pink yes in return to work meetings they print the whole thing off and go through it all... I think its to guilt you and put the pressure on over time off. Teaching is bad for that!

Planeteer · 27/04/2016 22:30

Back from a lovely break feeling v relaxed (although joining you ladies in wishing for the poo elves to arrive. 5 days and counting! Apricot juice will be being purchased tomorrow - thanks for the tip!)

Potato and Nev, sorry you've been suffering ThanksChocolate. Really hope you're feeling better soon. Potato, definitely make the most of OH being able to bring you treats. Points for the most obscure thing you can think of to ask for!

Advice re 16 week appointment please ladies. Is this one at all time sensitive do you know? I'll be 19+4 at mine, and am wondering whether I need to phone and get it shunted forwards. What do you reckon?

IrregularCommentary · 27/04/2016 22:58

Not as far as I'm aware Planet. I was only in with my midwife 15mins. Urine sample, blood pressure taken, bit of how are you feeling form filling, couple of appointments booked and off I went.

shelbTa · 27/04/2016 23:05

I hear you nev - I worry about taking time off too - our number of sickness days are visible on our staff profiles firm-wide. If you feel you can go in, I'd say try, especially if they are being dicks about it. But never put yourself or baby at risk.

X

PotatosMum · 27/04/2016 23:09

Nev I would check what your contract says. Maybe this is another teaching specific thing but I've never worked anywhere where they can interrogate sickness history for more than 12 months.

planet I don't think the 16 week one is time sensitive at all. As Irregular said, it's another, check wee and blood pressure, listen to heart beat and a chat.
Hope the poo fairy visits soon Wink

Schools suck for that nev I got scarlet fever off one of the kids, went to the doctor and was told I'd be contagious for up to 2 weeks so should limit my contact with people. Our head was ringing me within 24 hours saying I needed to be in by the end of the week. We had pregnant members of staff and immune compromised kids. Her solution, I wasn't to go in assembly or the staff room and to keep using anti bac on my hands!

Don't let them push you if you're not feeling up to it.

LillianFullStop · 27/04/2016 23:49

Sorry you're not well nev hope you wake up feeling better tomorrow. You and bub come first!

potato hope the fibroid has stopped giving you grief!

14+3 and belly is looking like it's started to pop out - just in time for sneaky long weekend trip with DH. Not telling the folks about the trip as they are so old fashioned and so over cautious - they would both prefer if I just stayed home until the baby comes. And maybe 18 years after that - I sneezed the other day and my dad told me to be careful with sneezing!

LillianFullStop · 27/04/2016 23:50

bunch your bump looks lovely!! I wish I would look that good in a few months!

BunchOfBobs · 28/04/2016 05:40

Thanks for the bump comments ladies, I'm feeling particularly round at the mo. At the gym it really looked like I'd just stuffed a basketball up my top.

Nev as Potato says I've never known any business that brings up sickness longer than 12 months. School maybe different though. More importantly though they are not allowed to penalise you for pregnancy related sickness. It's illegal under the equality act for them to treat you unfavourably due to pregnancy or an illness relating to pregnancy. Do not go in because they're being dicks. Roll out the equality act if needs be. Put yourself and bump first. I'm so sorry if it is pgp. In suffering from it and have from 8 weeks. Physio finally told me that's what it was when I said "I'm just glad it's not pgp" her words "but you do have pgp, you have pelvic pain, hence pgp" pfft. I'm in agony at the mo with it, hips popping and pubic bone hurting all the time. Fx it's not that (or anything serious).

Co5mo · 28/04/2016 06:52

Looks like I should check in more often!

Bunch your stitches look great. My old lady of a machine doesn't have that option so I think I'm going to pick up some jersey and experiment this weekend.

Nev, the equality act means your employer cannot treat you unfavourably in relation to pregnancy related illness. They can make you feel guilty but they can't do anything about it. They also can't take pregnancy sickness into account when considering your general sickness history. If you need to take time off, take it. www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/women-suffering/employer-information/

Nevlet · 28/04/2016 07:06

Thanks for the support guys! Pain is much better this am ironiclly had awful night sleep due to coldy thing ive had all week. Am going to go in and see how I go. I feel well enough to and I dont want to waste a day off when I may need it more later on...

shelbTa · 28/04/2016 08:15

Morning.

Glad you feel bit better nev. It's true - employers can't touch you when you are pregnant, but, they can be awkward whilst staying within the parameters of the law - particularly when it comes to returning back to work and asking for flexible leave etc. Hope you feel ok as the day goes on.

Waves to everyone.

Another two pounds on today.

X

IndiX · 28/04/2016 09:03

Nev glad you're feeling better, never feel forced to go in to work if you're feeling ill though.
Lillian the sneezing thing made me laugh, my Nan is a bit like that. Every time I say I've been the gym she says 'oh be careful the baby doesn't get a funny head'..I don't even know what that means Grin

It's scan day today! I'll finally know if Bean is pink or blueSmileI have a feeling it's a blue one but we'll see. It's not until 3pm so going to get up, go to the gym and try to get some stuff done round the house to fill the time. I'm so excited!

shelbTa · 28/04/2016 09:06

Omg how exciting indi! Hope it goes well! X

Sodasoda · 28/04/2016 09:10

Morning everyone,

Glad you're feeling better nev. Everyone has already said it but my company's sick policy is pretty strict with warnings if you're off a certain amount etc but anything pregnancy related doesn't count towards your total.

Great bump photos ladies, really neat!

Should I be concerned that I was only weighed at booking in appt? Obviously I can weigh myself (!) but just thought they'd keep an eye on it. I haven't been seen by a midwife since then either - only doctors at the hospital.

I've given up on all remedies to poo after trying everything! Resigned to feeling bunged up Sad

I'm 20+1 and over half way - hooray! Last couple of days I'm sure I've felt baby move which has been really exciting Smile

IndiX · 28/04/2016 09:19

Thanks shelb!
No soda I had my 16w appt yesterday with the midwife, she didn't weigh me and I actually asked her if it was ok I'd only put 3lbs on. She said unless you are noticeably 'being a pig' and gaining a lot of weight then they will say something to you and keep an eye on it. Apart from that she said they won't weigh me until around 30/32 weeks. I'm just going to keep an eye on it myself anyway

Planeteer · 28/04/2016 09:25

Good luck today Nev. Go gently and be firm with them if they give you any grief. Hope the pain stays away.

Excited for you Indi. Can't wait to hear how you get on and what flavour bean you're growing!

Am on hols this week but at home having a life admin day today (with a slightly alarming to do list). Job 1 is trying on every dress I own to see if one will do for a wedding on Sat. Really hoping I don't have to do an emergency dash to the shops. Everyone think stretchy fabric thoughts!

shelbTa · 28/04/2016 09:30

Soda - I was wondering that last night! No I have only been weighed once too, and I had massive winter boots on so there is no way it's accurate.

Does anyone know when they start measuring your bump?

X

PotatosMum · 28/04/2016 09:45

Nev glad you're feeling a bit better.

indi good luck for the scan.

Soda I haven't been weighed since my booking in either and I'm not even weighing in at home I don't need that kind of negativity in my life!
Yay for baby movement and passing half way. I love watching the days and weeks tick down on Pregnancy+, it makes me feel like my life will be my own again some day lol Wink

Planet good luck with the dress hunt. I so miss normal clothes.

Shelb they measured my bump at my last midwife appointment which was at about 22 weeks. Apparently I'm measuring a little big but within acceptable (plus could be explained by fibroid)

Still struggling with poop here but have had a couple of mini ones which have stopped me from exploding!

I'm going to attempt a bath later (with OHs assistance as I feel revolting, but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to tolerate it for. Don't know what I would have done without OH. He's been a star!

You are having it rough potato Thanks feel for you.

Peaches8Posies · 28/04/2016 10:31

Morning ladies. Spent a little bit of time on the phone and finally got my scan, a week today, yeah! Hate being that person moaning but sometimes it's the only way. Sad

nev as the other ladies have said it's illegal to treat a pregnancy related absence in same way as normal absence. Wow, can't believe they pulled 4 years records out. That's over the top. Don't let them make you feel guilty. You know if you're its because you need to be.

potato the hot water might help. When I had my first the midwife ran me a bath in the huge big hospital baths, I floated around in there for an hour and it was amazing for my contractions! Didn't want to come out. Think water births would be a lot more soothing.

Good luck indi hope you don't have a cheeky one crossing their legs Grin

PotatosMum · 28/04/2016 11:31

peaches glad you got the scan sorted. Sometimes all you can do is get in the phone and be a pain until things get sorted!

Bath was good but painful and now all my muscles are exhausted. Still at least I don't smell like a dead animal any more. Grin

I've been trying to sort out the paperwork for my house sale/purchase the past two days and have a strong suspicion that the solicitor I instructed via my selling agent is useless. "Sigh"
As soon as I'm functional again I'll have to get really irritatingly on it! Wink
