Morning Ladies.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Frenchsmallfry · 08/01/2007 09:12

Why oh why do we have to do the whole school thingy again.
We spend all our child years getting up to go to school and then when we have kids we have to do it all again. Grrrrrr I could have slept til lucnhtime. Not washed, dressed, fed, argued with and escorted to school a 4 yr old all before 9am. At least it's only one child at the moment, god lg&t how do you get 4 up and out?

Baby really quiet yesterday and this morning, mind you, have been really busy so hoping it's just worn out or I'm too busy to notice it's movements.

Good luck to those with scans today. Can't wait to hear your news.

Still raining here today, what's it up to in the UK?

Frenchsmallfry · 08/01/2007 09:14

I am rubbish TYG, I always forget about the Monday morning new thread. Haven't got a cluse how to link it though even if I did start it. Getting better though, managed to cut and paste message from other thread onto this one.

drkgpink · 08/01/2007 09:15

Hi there,

I'm 23 weeks pg with first child and new to MN. Expecting a boy on the 8th of May. Off work this week as the decorators are starting on the nursery, all a bit scary. Anyone else having trouble sleeping due to an active baby, religiously between 3 and 4 am he is kicking for an hour, used to drink hot milk to get to sleep but this seems to get him going more!!! Am I destined to have a nocturnal baby?

Have a good week everyone

ShowOfHands · 08/01/2007 09:19

Morning all!

Weather's quite pleasant here FSF. Sun's out, quite crisp, dry and very mild. However, I have heard rumours of snow for later in the week so it's not set to last.

LG&T I looked at your pic on your Windows thingy. What a beautiful little brood. That must be Phin in the corner in a dramatic pose and I'm assuming the mop of blonde hair belongs to Hugs? I would love a big family and you always sound so happy. Said it before, but it really is like The Darling Buds of May.

I'm at work, doing no work and about to go and see my boss to see if I can have tomorrow and Wednesday off. I was due to be off all week so we could move house, but the vendor's a numpty so we have lots of added issues to iron out before that happens and the 4D scan on Weds. Woohoo! Going to find out what this little kicky thing is.

Current strain in the SOH house is one of our cats being in heat. Poor old thing spends most of her time mewling, rubbing her stomach on the floor and rolling on her back. We're going to have to get her spayed, it's not fair to see her so unhappy- or so desperate. I'm not sure her looking hopefully at our other female cat is going to help her much either.

Anyway, off to sweet talk the boss...

ShowOfHands · 08/01/2007 09:27

Hello drkgpink!

Welcome to MN and congratulations on your pregnancy. Great to 'meet' you. Don't worry, I think most babies are nocturnal at this stage of pregnancy. Great trick of nature, they love to be awake when we're trying to sleep. I suppose it is all good preparation (what isn't good preparation is when at 4.30am I am awake yet again because the baby is training to be one half of a synchronised swimming pair and DH utters the immortal line 'well, while you're awake...' Yes while I'm awake, you can make me a cup of tea you cheeky sod).

This is my first too, so I'll be the one with the inane, paranoid questions. Currently averaging three a week which is set to increase in line with hormone levels.

Nurseries and decorating all sounds a bit serious. Still, we're in the throes of buying a new house so can't possibly think about that. In fact I haven't even thought about shopping for anything yet. Denial methinks!

twelveyeargap · 08/01/2007 09:34

SOH - at the grandparent's showing up! You'll have to get your DH to be firm with them and say you don't want anyone there. They'll just have to live with it. I mean, if you were in hospital, they wouldn't expect to be there with you, would they?

I had a chat with DD yesterday about the homebirth. Seems she was just worried about seeing any "gore", so we talked it over what might and might not happen and she's happy enough now.

Oh and I have a high anterior placenta, but DH can feel the movements right down low near my pelvic bone, particularly to the side. I expect as you get bigger the placenta will move a bit anyway.

SKYTV - Is there a midwife led unit near you that is attached to a hospital? I suppose you will have already checked that of course, but just in case, there is a list of hospitals on this website birthchoiceuk which tell you if there's a midwife unit in it. My friend only just realised one of her hospital choices had a midwife unit by looking on here.

Oh Scootermum! Poor you! It's everywhere at the moment. Get hold of a couple of tins of bicarbonate of soda. I had a horrid dose as an older child. Make up a paste with bicarb and a little water and dot the paste on each spot. Really time consuming, but I promise, it was the only thing that worked for me. It took the sting and the itch right out like magic. As soon as the paste dries it drops off so it's not a bad idea to contain kids in the bathroom and wrap in a towel and then shower them off once it's done or pour loads of bicarb in a lukewarm bath and rinse them that way so they get a double dose. As a kid, I remember the drying calamine lotion went flaky and actually made the itch worse. (Watched ER repeat last night and beefed all the way though, btw!) Oh and CP only has a possibility of complications before 12th week of preg. Looked it up the other day as my friend's kids have it. And you can get it twice, btw... Her son has had it twice in a month. Very, very unusual though. Depends on your immunity. It's the same family of viruses as coldsores and herpes. So just the same as some people get repeated nasty coldsores, but people don't; you can occasionally get repeated bouts of CP.

Creena & SOH - Maternity leave. I don't think you have to have worked a year to qualify - unless perhaps you're talking about Occupational Maternity Pay that your company gives. They'll prob have different rules. The rules for Statutory Maternity Pay (and therefore Leave I susppose) are:
To qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay you must have been:

  • employed by the same employer without a break for at least 26 weeks into the 15th week before the week your baby is due
  • earning an average of at least £84 a week (before tax)

Go on the directgov website (will post a link later, it keeps deleting my post at the mo for some reason) and "get personalised help" with maternity leave to check this.

Only got a few hours peace tho, dp coming home early to goto scan, typical lo was really quiet yesterday, as if i wasnt worried enough already, got out the doppler this morning and it gave 4 good hard kick as if to say "get that thing of me - im fine", so quite a bit of relief instilled

Welcome drkg pink, hope you have a happy healthy pg,

Good luck all over scanee's today, hope you get to find out sex if you want to know

largeginandtonic · 08/01/2007 09:51

Morning all....

Welcome drpink, are you a doc then? Sorry very nosey on here, not just me, 12weeks is the worst...

FSF it is organised chaos in this house in the morning, but as there are lots of them they are all quite good at sorting themselves out. The twins and dd dont need any help just a shout every now and again. Jonah can dress himself but it depends on his mood, and Hugs i usually ignore till the last minute as he always manages to do a poo as soon as i have changed him in to a clean nappy! By the way i bought the Cien nappies you recommended, they are fab!!! I got 44 for £5.39 and i think they are just the same as pampers, but alot cheaper! Thanx for that.

Its the 4 lunchboxes i have to make that i hate the most..grrrrrr

12weeks tell your dd that Jonah (aged 2and half) watched his brother come out. He still remembers it and it didnt affect him in the slightest, in fact i think he bonded with him far better than the others had. He wants to watch again, well they all do...

SOH bugger on your house, wtf is going on. I hate not knowing, it drives me mad. How can you plan anything??? Hope it went ok with the boss.

Could you do a link for me to the blog thingy, Mars did it for me on the multiples thread i post on. I hae no clue how to do it. I took a piccie of my bump yesterday and will attempt to post it later! No laughing, i bet im bigger than all of you!

I love ER and am so thrilled it's back. Was not sure about Ugly Betty though?

Am so tired, could not sleep last night. It's always bad the first night dh goes away. I miss him so much [sob]

On the plus side i made flap jacks and lemon drizzle cake with choc chips yesterday..mmmmmm anyone fancy cake at 11?

drkgpink · 08/01/2007 09:56

Hi large g and t yes I am a doc for my sins. Not sure whether its a help or a hinderance in pregnancy. As they say a little knowledge is worse than none. Am a GP trainee, just passed GP exmas but got obs anf gynae job to do after mat leave before I can leave the grim world of hospitals behind forever.

Good luck to everyone having scans this week. If anyone has had a 4d scan let me know what its like as we're considering it.

twelveyeargap · 08/01/2007 09:58

LG&T's lovely blog

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 08/01/2007 10:06

I say ignorance is bliss mostly drpink, i was a midwife before i started popping out my own babies (at an alarming rate) It just makes you bloody paranoid. It does mean that i know the medical profession do not have all the answers though so i dont blindly nod my head and bow down to their demands. It probably makes me a bit of a pain in the ass to them...

Thank you 12YG, only 11 weeks till you leave work...hooray!!!

Is it 11 yet?

twelveyeargap · 08/01/2007 10:22

What's your msn again LG&T? Just set up a new profile thingy as DH "appropriated" my previous msn login as his own. Cheeky moo. He can't be bothered to fill in forms and now all his contacts are on my thing.

WHY WHY WHY am I sitting here? I should be packing. Our move is Weds. DH was VERY bad this weekend. Slept most of Sat before we went out and then slept half the day yesterday. He packed, ummm, let me see, three small boxes with bottles of booze (ooh, hard) and I did six small and three large, mostly kitchen items, which mostly had to be wrapped in paper, so rather more time consuming. I did some of mine whilst jumping up and down in ad breaks of ER and in one of the breaks he calls from the pc, "are you making me a sandwich?". NO I'M FCKING NOT MAKING YOU A SANDWICH YOU LAZY etc etc... Then, when I fell into bed after midnight, he "apologised" for being so useless, gee thanks, and then seemed to think I'd be "in the mood."

I'm so cross. I took the entire week off work so there was time to pack and unpack and JUST asked him to help me get kitchen and utility room done yesterday as that was the heavy stuff (plus we have to replace the landlords things back in the cupboards) and he hardly got off his backside. So unfair. Plus I have to be careful what I lift, which he oh-so-thoughtfully reminded me this morning before he went off to bloody work leaving me to do everything. He'll come home tonight and say, "but I would have done some of it." Oh yeah? When exactly? At 3am the night before the movers arrive? GRRRRRR.

AND when we moved in here two months ago I arranged the packers/ movers and storage and he had f-all to do and PROMISED that I wouldn't have to do it all this time. AND he's going on a stag weekend to Barcelona Fri and Sat night.

Learn from my mistakes Lucy. DO NOT do any of the moving work the month you're due. Likewise SOH, when it all eventually goes through. Feeling your pain. There was no chain on either side of our purchase and the sodding vendor still left us waiting 4 months to move (so he could have a 4 week holiday before Christmas!), despite everything being ready to go within a few weeks of him accepting the offer. Bloddy faffer. And now he's called to say, "oh sorry, I have a bad back, so I've had to leave some sofas in the house. Can you get your movers to put them outside for the council to collect." WTF? Were his movers' arms broken or something?

Ranty, rant, rant. Sorry, I'll stop now.

Welcome Drkgpink. Nice to have you on board.

OP posts:
twelveyeargap · 08/01/2007 10:24

OMG, I just thought... I hope the vendor hasn't left stuff in the house because it doesn't fit out the door without dismantling or something. That would be just my luck.

To be fair, we have eff all furniture ourselves as we've shed a lot of things in all the rental moves we've done and the sofas might be useful - but it's still a big bloody cheek to have already moved out and then tell us.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 08/01/2007 10:41

Rant away 12YG, i would demand he removes the couch just in case. I hate packing and unpacking, book a holiday and leave dh to do it all. Tell him you are not coping with the stress and need a break, doctors orders. Get drpink to write one for you...

I just looked at the blog photo, it looks like dh is giving Jacob some wine...he is heee, heeee. Nah not really just fruit juice cocktail, they are all sat in the dinning room eating boxing day buffet. The table was too full of food to seat them!

My email is [email protected] 12YG.

Hugs just picked his poo filled nappy up from the stairs and opened it, bringing me in the wipes from within...arrrggghhhhh

twelveyeargap · 08/01/2007 10:57

Added you. I'm jlyonslowe at yahoo dot co dot uk for anyone else on msn or yahoo or aol for that matter. I've helpfully put my msn screenname as twelveyeargap - won't be using it for any other contacts!

I'll try to book a holiday after the move. My friend has a house in Spain so I'd like to tell DH I'm going with DD for half term and he can spend a week in the house getting jobs done. If I get his dad down, FIL will shame DH into doing stuff. In fact, lovely FIL said at Christmas, "Make sure you let me know if you want us down at half-term (they're teachers). I'd love to come and help out." He loves being busy. Shame DH didn't take after him a bit more in that respect.

Think DD's goldfish are about to kark it. One of them is swimming upside down. Feel sorry for them. I sometimes leave the water dirty in attempt to force DD to clean the tank, but it hardly ever works. I feel mean now, even though they're "only" fish. First and last pets we'll ever own I can tell you. If she can't clean a tank once a fortnight, there is no way she's getting a guinea pig/ hamster/ indoor rabbit or whatever her latest whim is. (Personally, I'd like a couple of cats but DH is allergic, dammit.) Fish have now had water changed and added some medicine stuff... Fingers crossed. They're only about 4 years old. I'm being soppy about fish, aren't I?

OK, going to finish kitchen. Back later.

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 08/01/2007 11:10

Oh 12YG you have my deepest sympathies re. the house stuff. I absolutely despise packing up to move- don't mind unpacking the other end, it's nice to be installing yourself somewhere new and to have it all nice and tidy and arranged for at least a day. Sounds like we're in similar situations. When we eventually do move we have to reinstall all of the landlord's crap...er...sorry... artefacts back to their original positions. Plus, DH won't pay extra for somebody to do the moving for us, we borrow a van from friends and have to do it all ourselves in three trips. At least this time I have an excuse not to be lugging stuff to and fro. Very briefly the problem with our house sale is that the numpty vendor didn't get planning permission or building reg approval for any of the work he had done, so not only will our solicitors not proceed until he takes out indemnity and accepts responsibility for his own stupidity, we also have to renegotiate the price as we have to do more work than anticipated to get the house up to spec. and to get permissions for everything. Main problem is that he converted the attic to use as a bedroom and it was sold to us as such, but it doesn't meet regs so cannot be used. We've lost a room and have to re-do the extension to the kitchen. Therefore we are waiting for the vendor to drop the price to a level our solicitors approve. It's a flippin' nightmare. Still, got tomorrow and Weds off work to try and sort it all out with the council/estate agents/solicitors/vendor etc etc. We may still move by May.

And the 4D scan's on Weds. I'll keep saying it over and over. I'm so excited!!

Your comment about wait until you're bigger and the placenta will move up nearly had me falling off my chair. I don't know if I can physically get any bigger. I can't wait to see LG&T's bump pic. I bet I'm bigger than her. Somebody asked me yesterday if I was close to my due date. Would be funny if it wasn't so bloody insulting. You're also right about the mat. leave stuff- it's the OMP that I have to have worked a year to receive so I'm hanging on for that!

So far at work I've eaten four biscuits and done bugger all work-related activity. Naughty.

Best go and earn my money.

Gingerbear · 08/01/2007 11:21

Don't mention the school run! DD was up in the middle of the night last night, and we were playing 'Musical Beds' at midnight. Consequently, we were both shattered this morning, and didn't manage to drag ourelves out of bed until 8.15!! (We have to be out of the door by 8.40 at the latest.) So it was a mad scramble to find clothes, shoes, grab a slice of bread on the way out. She cleaned her teeth in the car, and we made it just after the bell had rung!

It was only when I got back to the car to drive to work that I realised my heart was racing and I was breathless from panicking!

I spent ten minutes trying to calm down and lower the old blood pressure.

twelveyeargap · 08/01/2007 11:22

What a muppet, SOH. I just don't understand people like that, who think they can just go around knocking down walls and expect nobody to notice. I really hope you get a good deal now on the house. Perhaps it might work out for the best, in that you'll be be able to get it how you want it, at a cheaper price and then get the value later on.

Only good thing I can say about having to wait 4 months to move into our place, is that the value has gone up by about 4% since we agreed the price. Gives some comfort!

I'm not here, really. I'm typing this by telekinesis from the kitchen, honest.

Morning MKG! We are weird. Due in August had 700 and something messages in about 6 weeks... We had over 600 just last week. I suppose we use ours as a "chat about everything" forum and maybe the other ante-natal clubs keep it strictly pregnancy.

I like it though. Can you guess, huh, huh?

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 08/01/2007 12:16

Excellent use of telekenesis again there 12YG!!!

Pinktrappedwindjenny · 08/01/2007 13:18

OK so after all your messages last week, its been on my mind all weekend, and I finally looked at the scales.

I've put a stone and a half on. Could this be due to the fact that I am eating one creme egg every day?

Scan this afternoon, and I am definitely finding out. Dh doesn't want to know. That's so not going to work out.

Trapped wind much better thanks for asking.

Oh, and still nothing coming out of norks.

drkgpink · 08/01/2007 13:26
