morning everyone - really sorry about your news paula.

Thought i was maybe through the sickness phase as was feeling really good at start of the week, but it seems to be coming back. had really big craving for super noodles yesterday, cause someone mentioned them at work. went to shops on way home, but they didnt have the curry flavour which was what i fancied. got the nearest i could find, and was nice at the time but felt pretty sick later on

oh well only 7.5 hours till the weekend. Has anyone else started thinking (in my case panicking slightly) that they had forgotten that they would be taking a pretty sharp cut in salary, and its really in 6 months time rather than the 9 i keep thinking in my head (I'm in my 12th week). Have started realising that we are going to have to make some drastic budget cuts in order to afford for me to be off for up to 9 months. oh dear - wish i was one of these well planned people.

Uki · 12/01/2007 09:38

Hi ALL

Welcome newies- mum2 and lizzie, wow there is alot of us pg after m/c here. Hitting that 12 week mark will be good indeed.

It's been so hot here, today was nearly 40 degrees, I have been suffering headaches and feel like i'm melting into the floor and cannot pull myself back.

So i guess i feel pg, have my 2nd scan next week, and obstetrician check up. I am actually booking into two hospitals, so I will have lots of care. I guess I am preparing for the best and worst as I am suseptible to getting pre eclampsia again.

Enough about me, how is everyone else???

Hersetta -14 hour day sounds horrible, but BC and First Class sounds even better, I Love flying, when pg last time got 4 seats to myself which was good indeed.

Uki · 12/01/2007 09:44

Conkertree-don't worry to much about finances, it will all suprisingly work out, mainly coz with newborn you don't go anywhere, no more dinners out, movies, shopping for clothes, etc.

I sound pessimistic but I'm not you'll enjoy a different life. I just remember worrying too, but haven't found it that bad in fact better finacially, but we made big changes.

Not worried by no. 2 either as I enjoy spending money on them not me.

tokentotty · 12/01/2007 09:44

Morning all, hello to the new ladies too.

Quick question - anyone getting nosebleeds ? Had one this morning and it just did not want to stop. There was nothing I did to bring it on so was a bit shocked and it was pretty heavy. Is stopped now but have this dull ache behind my nose and left eye.

bresha · 12/01/2007 11:43

Paula, im so sorry, sending you lots of hugs xxxxx
Lovelybird- hope your scan goes ok
Welcome mum2g and lizzie, how many of us are there now?
Conkertree- iv had the same, Monday and Tuesday I was fine but iv slowly been feeling worse
I can?t Waite for my scan either hormonalwreck , only a week and a half, I can?t afford to have a privet scan at the mo so I will only get 2, or 3 if I have a homebirth.
I?m gona have to learn to drive I think, don?t think I?ll be able to cope with 3 otherwise, we live a 30 min walk from the school and a hour walk home coz it?s all uphill and dd1 has 2 stop at every bench, and there is no way I could push a double buggy up and dd2 will only b just 2 so I don?t think she will be able to walk all that way,
I?ve been putting it off coz lessons are so expensive

GillL · 12/01/2007 13:48

Afternoon all. Sorry to hear about the ms. I've been feeling terrible over the last couple of days and can't wait til 5pm.

Not wanting to sound negative but the amount of SMP was a real problem for us and we ended up in a lot of debt. We need most of both mine and dh's wages in order to pay the bills, run our cars etc. This is the main reason I am only taking 4 months maternity leave (that and last time I couldn't wait to get back to work after 4 months). I suppose that's what you get for living to your means. I would recommend saving if you can.

I'm really envious of everyone having early scans. I'm not even booking in til next week so it will probably be 3 weeks before my first scan. It will be great to see the heartbeat for the first time. Will definitely put my mind at rest and then I'll be able to tell everyone (although my mum seems to be doing a good job at that, even though I told her not to tell anyone).

GillL · 12/01/2007 13:51

Hi Tokentotty. I've not had any nosebleeds as such but I have noticed some blood when blowing my nose. I think it's quite common though. I've been seeing some blood when cleaning my teeth too. Not a lot though.

Catalepticdru · 12/01/2007 14:15

Panicking. On phone to NHS, got a clear yellow discharge.
Is this bad?? Or am I worried about nothing? PLease help!!

Catalepticdru · 12/01/2007 14:32

Been told totally normal. Just totally freaked out over nothing I think....

OP posts:
tokentotty · 12/01/2007 14:39

Hey, how are any first timers to know what's ok and what isn't ? It's not unusual to worry about stuff that's different at all, especially when it comes to something that's so dear and important to you.

Loulee · 12/01/2007 14:42

What a relief for you Cat. i just tried to post a few mins ago to put your mind at rest, but it didn't show for some reason..

Bresha, I'm in the same boat as you - never learnt to drive and now really needing to. Have the same thoughts on carting 3 around - a car would be very useful. I never seem to be able to find the time / motivation to do it though (it was the plan when i was pg with dd1 and then with dd2 and now with dd3!!)
Perhaps we can encourage each other?? 6 months - there's still time. What do you think?

And hi to all new ladies too!

Catalepticdru · 12/01/2007 15:29

Gill - it's ridiculous they way SMP is set. I've had to work really hard to earn the money that I do, and I admit dh and I do live to our means. But at the same time, we have paid the proportionate amount of tax! I do feel that working mums are penalised by the smp system. £109 a week works out £6000 a year. If I was looking after someone else's kid I'd get triple that! About time that this goverment start paying mums what they are actually worth... but then I don't think they can afford to pay us £100,000 a year..

OP posts:
GillL · 12/01/2007 16:50

Totally agree Catalepticdru. When I was paying a childminder recently she was getting more of my money than I was. She did work longer hours but it's still a bit annoying.

feedmenow · 12/01/2007 16:55

Hi all. Just thought I'd check in for the day and say hello. I've had an odd one today, lots going on, but at least it has taken my mind off ms! Took my dd to see the nurse this a.m. as I had been told she needed to have her ears syringed. She flipped out on the way there and started crying and running off saying "you can't make me! I won't go!" This carried on through reception and into the waiting room for a good 20mins. And then when we eventually saw the nurse it turned out she didn't need to have it done afterall!! Childre....don't you just love them

lovelybird · 12/01/2007 17:28

hello all
I've had my scan and everything is OK. I saw the baby and the hosp said everything looks fine, they can't explain the bleeding. If I have more bleeding I have to go back. Due date 13th Aug. Feel OK, but realise it's still early days

bresha · 12/01/2007 19:13

Glad your scan when ok lovelybird, fingers crossed there is no more bleeding

Loulee, I think that is just what I need, motivation!!!! there is still time, better get started tho, how about we both start arranging things next week? even if it?s just getting some phone numbers or asking family when they could babysit.

Mmmmm, warm homemade scones with jam, dp made them for me
All by himself as well

Hope you all have a good weekend
Bresha xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

loler · 12/01/2007 23:15

I've had a bit of spotting today - had it about this time with last 2 pgs but still can't help worrying - will be at least another month until scan.

I had a year off last time ( working on longer then that this time!!) - we've found that we too have been better off since we've had kids. Too tired to go out loads plus can't face hangovers, much cheaper holidays, shopping with toddlers is a nightmare and there's only so much you can spend going to baby and toddler groups (average £1.50 a family including drink and snack - bargin!). I supose as long as your mortgage is less than one salary you should be OK.

Catalepticdru · 13/01/2007 08:50

Morning ladies! Hope we are all okay! LB congrats on your scan, glad to hear your bean is doing well. Still no letter for me grrr...

We will manage... we've paid off most of our debts (apart from the Mortgage) and I now only have one loan which finishes in September this year. The only worry I have is that I might actually have to pay my student loan off, but I've been told I can re-defer it after I start paying it of my income goes down. Plus it's 50:50 whether I'll still be under the threshhold.
Anyway, we have been beudgeting quite carefully and have been putting money away every month as well for when I start ML. Plus I'll have 10 days holiday to take before I start my ML which will help!
So not all doom and gloom.
And I'll save loads on my petrol to since I atm I doa 60 mile round trip to work everyday... I'll be lucky if I can make it to the supermarket down the road

BTW I take it everyone's got their maternity exemption certs for the free prescriptions? Mine arrived yesterday, so will be booking myself into the dentist soon!

OP posts:
Catbabymummy · 13/01/2007 09:24

Decided on name change...
Dh said that when baby is born he'll come 3rd in my affections after Baby and Catbaby (my gorgeous brown tabby Barty).

Catbabymummy · 13/01/2007 09:38

So waht's everyone up to today? I'm off buyng baby clothes!!
Not for me, I have a friend who is due next month, she and her dh live in Latvia (moved out last year) and I thought I would buy some sleepsuits and body suits. Don't know the sex so going to go for plain stuff. Going to buy 3-6 and 6-9 month size to keep them going. Apparently stuff like that is quite expensive out there! So excited for them, new home, life and now new baby!
I keep thinking, "Oh I can't wait until the baby arrives" but thinking about it I should savour this time I have with dh, after all it won't be just the two of us after Bump makes his/her appearence into the world! We are planning some trips to London and Scotland by train, it'll be a long time before we can go off and do such things again...

hormonalwreck · 13/01/2007 11:01

tokentotty - yeah I've had nosebleeds too. I'm relatively prone to them anyway but I'm having nearly 1 a week at the mo, aswell as an almost constant feeling of being bunged up - not like a real cold, just like I'm coming down with soemthing. It's worse in the morning. Also sneeze ALOT. One of my books says this is normal and due to 'increased levels of oestrogen and progesterone resulting in incresed blood flow through the body, causing lining of nasal passages to become swollen. This can lead to congestion and over production of mucus. The increased blood flow also puts pressure on the delicate nasal veins making you more prone to nosebleeds'

The SMP thing is a killer for us too. I'm frantically trying to pay off all my debts before Aug. Fortunately, I've negotiated 'working from home' so my maternity leave can start at the birth. But the cut in salary is shocking. I think SMP should be a fixed percentage of what you earned before falling pg - 75% would be nice Anyone agree? Maybe we should pettition the government!

Catbabymummy · 13/01/2007 11:54

HW - I agree, 75% seems perfectly reasonable to me!
I'll sign it!
Ooh I've got my appointment for my first scan, 6th February!!
I'm soooooo excited, I'll be 12 weeks by then!
Think I'm over my scare yesterday, discharge cleared up now. I think I was just a bit freaked out because i was having a particularly bad day at work, and Paula's & others mcs were preying on my mind...

BabyMadwithBump · 13/01/2007 18:33

Thought I'll check in, everything is fine still feeling cr** but thats how things are going to be untill I see someone regarding my thyroid gland working far to fast (over-active thyroid) I dont do things by half's me scan on monday I'll be about 11 weeks let you know how I get on, cant wait, DH coming to!
Babymadxx

Loulee · 13/01/2007 21:37

Catbabymummy - you have the same scan date as me! 6th feb. I'm at 9am so will be a bit hectic to get kids organised in creche beforehand - but should manage it. How exciting!

Bresha - yep, motivation is what i need too. Would be amazing if it was all done and dusted in 6 months. Yes, lets make some calls this week to get things set up. Don't know if I'll have time to start until I've got our business accounts done (ms and kids making working (attempting to!) at home very slow indeed, but as soon as that's out the way - hopefully the end of next week - I'm ready.

Hope your scan goes fine, babymad, - wish mine was monday, it's so hard waiting.
and so sorry you're feeling so crap. when will you get to see someone about your thyroid?

Catbabymummy · 14/01/2007 09:15

Mine's at 9am too!!!! We'll be havinbg our scans at the same time!

Hope everyon'e okay and enjoying a nice lazy Sunday morning.
