Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mrsshuvel · 05/03/2007 13:06

Thanks guys, i work in a very male dominated company so i didn't expect them to be helpful or understanding at all. I thought there was something about 15 weeks. I feel a lot better now that i know i can change my mind if i like and the date is not set in stone.

On a lighter note. I have a party to go to on Saturday and was panicking as i can't fit into any of my nice tops anymore. I bought some maternity jeans a few weeks ago but needed something to wear with them. I went into New Look which is somewhere i don't normally bother with and they have a fantastic maternity range. I bought 2 really flattering tops that should last me all the way through and 2 pairs of leather pump / ballet type shoes that should do for the summer too and everything was a really good price.

GillL · 05/03/2007 13:50

Hi MrsShuvel. I've just checked out my company's official maternity guidelines and they say they would like to know as early as possible but no later than 28 days before the due date. You should get a copy of your company's guidelines. You shouldn't be pressured into giving them a date now. As you say, you can't tell how you're going to feel. I took a month off before dd was due and I felt it was far too long but it depends partly on what you do, how you travel and how your pregnancy is going.

I've missed 3 days and spent ages catching up. My sister's wedding is 4th August and my baby is due on 19th. We've got to spend 2 nights in a hotel as it's too far to travel there and back in one day. We're also going to have to find out where the local hospital is - just in case it's early - and take my hospital bag and car seat. I'll probably have to take loads of extra cushions just to make the bed comfortable to sleep in. I was going to be a bridesmaid before I fell pg but decided 2 weeks before my due date was pushing it a bit.

pinkranger · 05/03/2007 13:59

Hi ladies

Hope you all had a nice weekend!
Mine was eventful, sunday laid up in bed all day with REALLY bad stomach pains, Dh took me up A+E and they exameied me , they think it was a Gastro Virus and nothing to do with babe ( RELIF!) but they got me a scan today to make sure and there was my little bean jumping around and perfectly fine and they think a ................................... BOY so i will have two little men!!!
not going to tell Ds as he wanted a sister but thnk he will be happy with brother in the end!!

GillL · 05/03/2007 14:04

Hi pinkranger. Sorry to hear you were in pain. So jealous you know what you're having. I know it's not guaranteed but it's nice to know anyway. Should only be a few weeks til my next scan so hoping baby's in the right position. Hope you're feeling better now.

Mrsshuvel · 05/03/2007 14:13

Thanks for all the advice ladies.

Hope you're feeling better Pinkranger. I have my scan in 2 weeks and i can't wait.

pinkranger · 05/03/2007 14:19

Over the Moon to be having anthore Boy! _ dh will start up with the errol again

Mrsshuvel · 05/03/2007 14:23

Hahahaha i love Errol. We were discussing boys names last night and came up with Finlay. We found it in a names book that came free with pregnancy and birth magazine. So we have Lily for a girl and Finlay for a boy - at the moment. This could all change at any minute of course. The way i change my mind at the moment it probably will.

conkertree · 05/03/2007 15:44

its funny how protective i am of names- and its not as if we like really unusual ones or anything, but i cant really bring myself to share our current ideas. dont know why - maybe its cause my sister is on here too - although we have discussed ideas, and will probably have told her when we make more definite short lists.

at the hen weekend i was at this weekend, everyone was asking about names, but there was no way i was going to discuss them with rl people. maybe nearer the time i would discuss it on here - cause its really useful hearing people's ideas.

am still waiting for the perfect boys name to pop into my head - dont think its going to be errol though.

conkertree · 05/03/2007 15:45

not that there is anything wrong with errol of course - if someone on this thread chooses it thats great - dont want to offend anyone

Mrsshuvel · 05/03/2007 15:49

I don't mind discussing names on here but if anyone i know asks i say we haven't decided yet. I remember when my friend was expecting everyone wanted to give an opinion. I don't mind if people on here tell me my names are rubbish but not sure i could handle it otherwise especially as i seem to burst into tears over nothing at the moment.

conkertree · 05/03/2007 17:01

posted this on another thread but thought it was relevant here too when thinking about names - girl i was at the hen weekend with is a teacher and has a girl in her class called Khlamydia. K not a C but still - it surely must have crossed their minds when picking an unusual name for their daughter to wonder where they had heard the word before.

maybe type it into google just in case - although suppose it might not have come up with much spelt like that

Loulee · 05/03/2007 21:39

Conkertree and fellow scots - you might be interested in the scottish top 20 here

Thought Finlay would def be on it since I know at least 5 under the age of 4 - but no appearance. Also a lot of Rosie and Rosa's up here.

and here's the english ones girls!

LoopyLouLisa · 05/03/2007 21:59

Hiya, I recently found out that I'm expecting my second baby in aug (i already have a 12-month old son) and today I have been sent a letter calling me in for an amnio, as my down's risk has been calculated at 1 in 30. i am really clueless about this as no-one i know has ever had this. the midwife is trying to be reassuring but i cant help worrying

treacletart · 05/03/2007 22:36

LoppyLou - I wish I had something really clever and constructive to say, I'm not sure I do, but I didn't want your post to go unanswered. I think if you start a new thread in the Pregnancy topic you're likely to get help from the many Mumsnetters that will have been in your exact situation. For what it's worth, I think your first task is to work out how you would feel about having a baby with Downs and what your decision would be if the amnio shows a positive result for it. Get as much info as you can whilst trying to stay as calm as possible (But I do know this sounds impossible). Thinking of you and please do post seperately on this - x

tokentotty · 06/03/2007 10:53

Hey Loupyloulisa,

Am really sorry to hear your news. Do you know why or how they've come to this risk factor for you ? Obviously I don't know where you live but a few of us went to The Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street, London. For £150 they do a series of tests that take into account all the pointers to DS and work out a calculation from that. Might it be worth you perhaps trying that first before going for the full on amnio test?

pinkranger · 06/03/2007 10:56

hi loupeylouisa -

No different advice really, they thought my son has DS but as it was picked up early i had a cvs done nd all was fine. I had a nucal test with this preg, like TT i went private where they do scan long with bloods and other factors, NHS would have given me a 1 in 1700 chance , private gave me 1 in 17,000 ( hugh differnce) if you can go for a private screening x
Good Luck

Hi to everyone else hope we are all well today! x

tokentotty · 06/03/2007 11:56

Oh and Pinkranger...here's to the Errol conversations I expect you to start having. Please don't be selfish and keep any of DH's other wonderful ideas to yourself

kiteflying · 06/03/2007 12:55

Hi everyone. I am going to bite the bullet this afternoon and ring St Thommies to find out why I am still not approved and what the else I can do to get myself approved. I will let you know if I have any joy. Also, looks like we might be moving so really I am at a loss to know what to do.

Is anyone else finding themselves a bit faint and with a sudden headache if they stand up suddenly? Is this my punishment for not being more active in the last three months? I am going to a GP after lunch break to get my blood pressure checked in case it is a bit low.

conkertree · 06/03/2007 13:29

sorry to hear things are still not sorted kiteflying - good for you biting the bullet and putting the wind up them a bit.

i was having the dizzy heads when standing up a couple of weeks ago but think i havent been doing it so much recently as know it will go funny. am also trying to keep drinking enough but thats hard.

tokentotty · 06/03/2007 13:40

Oh kite, moving as well ?? You don't like things easy do you hun ? Anyway, deffo get on that phone and give 'em some grief. Refuse to be put off until you know what's going on and when you'll have a midwife, consultant etc etc.

As for the physical stuff - drink more water!! When my blood pressure was slightly low at first the doctor told me this can be because of too few fluids.

On a lighter note, Conkertree, absolutely pmsl at Khlamydia....

Washersaurus · 06/03/2007 13:46

Hi everyone, seems busy here today.

I have been busy entertaining another chicken pox kid this morning - DS' friend caught it too (so at least we had someone to play with). We've been getting terribly lonely trapped in the house

TT - how did your day of pampering at the spa go yesterday?

Washersaurus · 06/03/2007 13:55

Oh and best of luck with sorting out your antenatal care Kiteflying .

BTW I also get dizzy spells when standing up too quickly if I haven't drunk enough water.

LoopyLou - I'm sorry I can't offer any advice either, I don't really understand the downs syndrome risk calculations. Mine was worked out to be 1:480 but apparently this isn't anything to worry about. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that everything is OK with your LO.

tokentotty · 06/03/2007 14:13

Hey Washersaurus, (do like your new name I must say) sorry to hear you're still bloomin' housebound because of the pox. How's the little fella doing now - is there light at the end of the tunnel ?

My spa day was fab I must say. Had a body polish to start (basically a body scrub), followed by a massage for 50 mins which left me feeling almost stoned I was so zonked out!! Then I had a collagen facial something which also was really lovely and relaxing. Other than the treatments, I had a quick swim and just lazed around reading as I couldn't use the spa/sauna/jacuzzis etc that the other girls could.

loler · 06/03/2007 14:22

I go dizzy if I haven't drunk much too. Found it got worse last time - ended up havind drink with me all the time. Really looking forward to that hot summer!

We sold our house this weekend (was only on the market for a week) and in a complete flap about finding somewhere to live now. We decided that would be easier to move with 2 kids than 3 - not so sure now.

loopy - hope you've got more information now. Must be a shock to get that in a letter! Good luck with what ever you decided to do.

tokentotty · 06/03/2007 14:48

Congratulations on the quick sale Loler, that's got to be good news. I guess that at least you can rationally think that you do still have the best part of six months to find somewhere for yourselves and complete on it. Have you anything you're interested in already ?
