Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
washingqueen · 02/03/2007 15:41

OMG what have I started with the fairy cakes?

I didn't realise how bad the midwife situation was in some places - that is really really bad. I agree that you should kick up a real fuss until you get what you deserve! Pregnant women should ALWAYS be indulged (says washing as she rams yet more fairy cake into gob...)

What is it with all these european weddings? I never get invited anywhere further than up the road

washingqueen · 02/03/2007 15:46

Mrsshuvel that August wedding looks a bit optimistic if you dont mind me saying? My DS arrived 1 week later than his EDD and I don't think that is too unusual!!

My advice would be.. when choosing outfit find something that will hide those GIANT maternity pads that you prob have to wear and that allows easy access to breasts (if you choose to bf that is!)

kiteflying · 02/03/2007 15:47

MrsShuvel are you honestly expecting to go to a wedding in August? You are a brave woman.

I know you are all right and I should be screaming like a banshee, but I have so enjoyed not FEELING like a banshee recently that I have been a bit soft, I think.

tokentotty · 02/03/2007 16:09

Mrsshuvel, I feel similarly about my September wedding. My dear friend was trying to persuade me that I should book to stay on the Friday night before the wedding as well as the Sat, the night of the wedding. After telling her the hen was a no-no I didn't have the heart to say that I thought perhaps it unlikely that we'd book 2 nights in a hotel on a jolly with a baby that could be anything from 6 weeks down to 2 weeks old....

Mrsshuvel · 02/03/2007 16:10

No don't think i'll quite make it to the August one. Not too fussed though, they are DP's friends and he only asked DP cos 2 others had turned him down. I warned them they'd better organise a spare Best Man as i could very well be in labour around that time and if that was the case there was no way that DP was going.

Mrsshuvel · 02/03/2007 16:11

We'd have to stay in a hotel too and i'm really not sure i fancy that let alone whether i'll be up to it.

kiteflying · 02/03/2007 16:42

I'm off for the weekend bed rest I am told I should be having. Have a great weekend everyone. Buy lots of nice things for yourselves. Make fairy cakes. Whatever floats your boat.

conkertree · 02/03/2007 16:48

no weddings around august/september but my dh is going off to zambia for three weeks in september. was either then or in june and we decided september once the baby actually arrived would be better, cause i can go to my parents or my sister for company, and he can have had at least the firstt few weeks with the baby so he will get all the exciting newest stuff.

still not 100% sure how i feel about it (and neither is dh), but not got a huge choice - he leads a youth exchange there every year, and there really is no one else who can go in his place.

stretchmarks · 02/03/2007 17:37

I've got 3 weddings this summer - 2 family and the other my best friend which I was suppose to be a bridesmaid at but she is getting married on the 26th July - followed by my cousin 2 days later on the 28th and I'm due the 4th August - should be fun !!!!

I found this dress which I liked as it was the only long one I can find :-
www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/detailfash.php?type=FASH&code=A9246&branch=IM&category=EOC71

Was worried anything else at that stage will just make me look like an egg on legs.

We went to a wedding 2 weeks after DS1 was born which was ok it was a smallish family wedding and was good to have parents on hand to help out although looking back I don't look great on photos - very pale as was anaemic after the birth due to blood loss thank god for tinted moisturiser now shouldn't have that problem this time

Washersaurus · 02/03/2007 20:01

Just to let you know that I have modified my name as am fed up of sounding like a tranny version of Pauline Fowler (washingqueen)

Maddison · 02/03/2007 22:43

Hi ladies, would it be okay if I join you?? My edd is 31.08.07 according to the dating scan I had today. I have joined the Due In Sept thread thinking I would probably be overdue, but who knows!! I have had 2 babies already, the first was 4 days early and the second 4 days late so this one may be bang on time

lizziemun · 03/03/2007 08:13

My date has now been confirmed as the 30.08.07 after dating scan yesterday.

Loulee · 03/03/2007 15:13

hi all, glad to see everyone's feeling a bit better - me too.
Welcome maddison - how old are your dc's - I'm also on my 3rd and right now feeling rather exhausted, but thankfully no longer sick. It's all that running around after little ones - mine are 3.5 and 18mo - when i just want to put my feet up!!
re; weddings, we took dd1 to a friends wedding when she was a few weeks old - it was fine. - was rather nervous, but she slept so much, i had lots of help and actually had time to relax - and that was after a section!
Still searching for something medieval-ish (it's the theme - not my personal taste!) for a wedding in april and am SO stuck.....

tokentotty · 03/03/2007 16:56

Medieval maternity wear....now there's a thought !

Loulee · 03/03/2007 17:01

and sadly I'm not joking!! what the f* am i going to wear? all i can think is to put some sort of flowers in my hair and ignore the dress code...HELP!

Washersaurus · 03/03/2007 18:54

Hi everyone, welcome maddison!

Loulee I did a google search out of interest and it instantly brought up this site

www.verymerryseamstress.com/maternity.htm

Honestly, you CAN get medieval maternity wear!

katybird · 04/03/2007 18:54

Hi everyone, can I join too please? I'm due 23/08 and it's my first time. How great is this site?!
Stretchmarks - thanks for the link to the dress, I've been stressing over what to wear to my cousin's August wedding.

tokentotty · 05/03/2007 08:25

Couldn't open the link Wanted to know what the well dressed 14th/15th century pregnant ladies were wearing this year.....

Katybird - big welcome ! You're not going to the same wedding are you ?

Right, off for a day's pampering at the Sanctuary in Covent Garden with some girlie friends so have a lovely day all and here's to the week when we all really start feeling great !

x

AllyPallyChick · 05/03/2007 08:37

Hi ladies

I'm jumping on board this thread in the hope that there are some of you who may be living in North London. Haven't been able to get on any NCT classes and worried I'm going to go doolally at home by myself with the little one for 9 months. I'm due 4 Aug. Hope all is well!

conkertree · 05/03/2007 09:03

morning everyone - hi to the newbies.

tokentotty - that sounds absolutely fantastic - hope you have a great time. its another monday morning in the office, and would rather be almost anywhere else - particularly at a spa.

hopefully that monday morning feeling will pass soon. at least its another week closer to august.

how was everyones weekend?

Loulee · 05/03/2007 09:34

blimey washer! - great link!! didn't find the maternity section tho.. Think I'm going to stick to improvisation and do a mix of high street and accessories....we'll see!

Washersaurus · 05/03/2007 10:09

Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

TT - Am sooo jealous of your day of pampering, hope you have a fabulous time

Not sure why my links never work???

Mrsshuvel · 05/03/2007 10:58

Hi Everyone

OOh i'd love to be at a Spa right now, really pi*sed off at the moment. Work are pressuring me into giving them a date for my maternity leave. I haven't a clue. I'd like to go now actually! I don't know how i'm gonna feel nearer the time, i could feel great or absolutely rotten. Surely i don't have to let them know now! Does anyone have any experience of this?

Loulee · 05/03/2007 11:09

You'd have to check it through, but i remember with dd1 things being very flexible and geared towards me rather than work. Never had any problems with the start date as i wanted all my leave after the babe was born. Remember being able to change my return date so long as i gave them 2 weeks notice - don't know where this rule came from - think it may have been from the uni where i was working - but worth checking out I guess

conkertree · 05/03/2007 12:24

mrsshuvel - as far as i understand it, you have to tell your employer (in writing if they want it) that you intend to take maternity leave, at least 15 weeks before your due date. You should tell them when you intend to work to by then.

But, if you want to change that date cause you feel better or worse than you expected, you must inform them in writing of the change of date, at least 28 days before that date - but even then, if thats not practicable cause its less than 28 days away, you should still be able to tell them in writing, as soon as is practicable.

thats the thoery at least. dont have any experience of it yet.
