Sophia I had a low lying placenta with Ds at 20 weeks. I was rescanned at 36 weeks and had moved up.
The 36 week scan was an internal though which they hadn't told me before hand! They need to check its moved so many cms clear of cervix

Jw35 · 16/03/2016 19:57

Christine try not to worry as they're obviously not too concerned. I don't know what it could be but it doesn't sound dangerous just scary. I hope your ok? Pain in the sides is common in pregnancy as ligaments are stretching so might not even be related

OwlinaTree · 16/03/2016 19:59

My sister had a low lying placenta, it had moved by the time she gave birth, that's 2 out of 2 with a moving one!

Christinedonna · 16/03/2016 20:15

The cramps were horrible, I was just about to get in the shower, got off the toilet and it smacked me as I stood up, basically crawled back to my room half naked and cried in bed for an hour. Then it went to my back..but as it wasn't near the baby it didn't concern me. That..and the fact that I've had a lot of discharge lately and the day before yesterday it went green are the only things I can think of being a cause so it doesn't seem like anything too severe, if there was a lot of blood I would be a panicking mess but luckily it isn't. I may just find myself using the Doppler more to reassure myself. She said it sounds quite far back, towards my back so I wonder why that is? Just a difficult baby maybe. It won't hear the end of all this stress it's put me through when it's older! It will be on tea duty forever

LotsofDots · 16/03/2016 20:48

20wk scan all fine, we kept our resolve and remain firmly browsing in the unisex department! Had to go for a walk and a Mars bar halfway through to try and get it to change position so that the Sonographer could get views of the heart, but one or the other did the trick!

christine was it a speculum examination that they were talking of? Sounds like they think you have a UTI, or a kidney stone, which would fit with the pain and blood in urine.

Biscuitswithtea · 17/03/2016 07:06

That's odd Four. We have an extra scan too but that's a specific cardiac scan of baby because I have a hole in my heart (which I've had from birth). The nhs letter is v clear that it's an obstetric cardiac scan. Your midwife should know what it's for?

lilygirl81 · 17/03/2016 11:00

That's me back from our scan, went really well though baby was wriggling around loads. Managed to see and measure everything and all looking good, though seem to span percentiles, head was 54th, abdomen was 24th and leg was 36th. They didn't seem concerned though, so I'm not worried. Right at the end the baby stuck 2 fingers up which was very funny.

Glad Alls well Grin

plimsolls · 17/03/2016 11:30

Amazing picture! Congrats on a good scan.

Sophia1984 · 17/03/2016 11:45

Lovely pictures Lily Mine has a completely average head, a big belly and little legs! Sonographer said everything looked perfect so am not going to look anything up!

Basketofwool · 17/03/2016 12:22

Congrats Lily
I think the 20 week pictures look so cute. I was very cynical before becoming pregnant and always thought 'its just a scan they all look the same, how can it be cute???' but I appear to have gone soft now!

Christinedonna · 17/03/2016 13:07

LotsofDots something like that. By this point I just wants to get out of there so nothing really sunk in!
Lily what great pictures! And a little insight into how cheeky I'm sure your little one will be!
I'm getting very impatient with my scan, I know 3 people that are all a week-a few days behind me in their pregnancy and they've all had theirs!! Mines two weeks today when il be exactly 21 weeks. Time was flying until this scan, now it'll drag while I wait and hopefully fly again when that's done! I've kind of changed my mind about wanting to find out the sex, before I was dead set on needing to know! And now I just feel like we've waited this long, we've got everything brought any none of it is with colours (I don't really like the whole pink and blue thing) so why find out? That would just be the ultimate surprise wouldn't it, and an extra little incentive during labour to hurry up and find out! But OH is sure he wants to know so I suppose we'll be finding out

Jw35 · 17/03/2016 13:38

Congrats Lily! Such a funny pic too for the album Grin
I'm the same Christine my scan is on Tuesday and I'll be 21+3! I'm so impatient! I will be finding out (hopefully), I really want to know!

Christinedonna · 17/03/2016 13:49

I just said to him to consider it, like imagine ringing everyone and being like "it's a girl!" Or "it's a boy!" I do really want to know, just like I really want to be able to cuddle him or her now, and put their little toes in their little baby grows and everything else I'm looking forward to! But I have to wait for all of that. And as amazing as it is to know, I'm not discrediting finding out at all because I'm quite 50/50 about whether or not il be able to manage not crumbling..but I have to wait for all those other things, and they're all decided already, one final surprise would be lovely! Also, I feel terrible for saying it & maybe this is why it's thrown me a little bit but I'm scared that il be disappointed at the scan and it'll be obvious. Even though I don't have a hunch of what it is, or a preference. But I have so many reasons of why I'd love a boy, and different ones for why I'd love a girl and when I hear one or the other I'm losing all those things I'm looking forward to for the other. It's silly I know but it's just been playing on my mind a lot. I don't want the sadness of losing that to over shine the excitement of what I'm gaining.

Mslg · 17/03/2016 14:35

Christine I want a surprise as well but my OH is the same as yours and wants to find out. Sorry, but we're not finding out!! I'm the one that will be in labour, tough shit love I get the final decision. It's just that he's a control freak and want to 'mentally prepare' himself. He's coming round to the idea of a surprise.

Basketofwool · 17/03/2016 16:43

Christine I think mslg has the right idea....who is the one actually giving birth?! Losing the option of having a lovely surprise is something you won't get back, but your OH doesn't really lose anything by not knowing. See how you feel on the day.

We were considering asking the sonographer to write it down then giving it to a trusted family member to look after while we decided whether or not to look...maybe you could do that?

We didn't do that in the end and have stayed team yellow but I think the only reason I have the willpower to do that is because I'm 99% sure I'm team blue anyway!!

Christinedonna · 17/03/2016 16:48

I would like to put my foot down..but I feel bad as we both said we definitely wanted to find out, and I'm the one that's changed their mind. I'm hoping he'll come round by the scan. Maybe il say "maybe we can find out at a 3D scan" (thinking of having one around 30 weeks) and then seeing if I still feel the same then. I think we may get the sonographer to write it down though as if I do change my mind I don't want to not be able to know! But then again maybe that will tempt me to just open the envelope and find out! Ahhhh decisions!!

Mslg · 17/03/2016 16:59

Keep it as a surprise! Imagine how amazing it will be. I plan on getting my OH to tell me if it's a boy or a girl at the birth. Not many amazing surprises like this left in life!

Mslg · 17/03/2016 17:00

P.s christine you're perfectly entitled to change your mind Grin

Sophia1984 · 17/03/2016 20:51

After a day of horrible back and prlvic pain, I asked my yoga instructor why the midline of my belly 'pops' when I do a sit-up. Looks like I have diastatis recti (separation of ab muscles). Couldn't care less about flat stomach after baby but looks like it might cause me back pain as it overcompensates for lack of abdominal strength. Feeling a bit fed up with my body today! Wasn't expecting aches and pains this early. Reassuring that it doesn't affect baby in any way though.

Dileas29 · 17/03/2016 21:41

msg that'll be a lovely surprise! christine I hope you both decide and are happy with decision!
20 weeks today and another week till scan cmon! Excuse the odd socks

MrsTickleMonster · 18/03/2016 07:54

Hi all. I've been lurking on Mumsnet for a week or so while I've been off sick, but only came across this thread. still getting to grips with all the acronyms haha!

I'm due on 26th and got my anomaly scan booked for 2 weeks time, but got a scan at the EPU today after bleeding again... 3rd time so far.

hope everyone and their little bumps are well x

ToElleWithIt · 18/03/2016 08:29

Christine - hope everything is okay

Sophia congratulation on your boy! I had a low-lying placenta on DS and it moved at the end. I remember reading up on it at the time and I think 95% move enough for vaginal delivery so the odds are really good.

Fizzy hoping that you're feeling a bit reassured? I love Totoro too. We were in Japan a couple of years ago and went to Studio Ghibli - it was so cool. I'd love to bring DS back there.

I would definitely buy loads of pink if I had a girl. Not because I believe girls "have to" wear pink, but just because I love it as a colour.

Welcome MrsTickle

Love that picture Lily - hilarious!

Has anyone who's having a 2nd / 3rd etc done any thinking on room sharing? Obviously the baby will be in with us for 6 months, but after that? We're really lucky that we have room for the baby to have it's own room (albeit that it would need to be done up - painting curtains - the works), but I love the idea of them sharing and DS's room is v big. Any advice on whether this would be practical with a 2.5 yr age gap or will this be a nightmare in reality with them keeping each other awake? I have fond memories of sharing a room with my sister which is why I'm tempted. If not I should get thinking about doing something with the other room.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 18/03/2016 09:52

Fab scan pics lily!! Love baby swearing at you - you're gonna have your hands full with her! Grin
Dots glad your scan went well, well done on staying team yellow!
Sophia sorry about your diastis recti. Good that it's not a worry for baby, but frustrating for you! Did they mention any physio or anything to correct it after birth or will it just go back to normal on its own?
Hi MrsTickle and welcome! Hope your scan today goes well, sounds like you've had a bit of a worrying time. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
Elle DD and this baby will definitely be sharing for a while - as we're moving from the Midlands to Hampshire, we could only afford a 2-bed, so until we upsize in a few years they'll be in the same room! I think it'll be fine, I shared with my little brother for years when I was a kid and had a great time, we were thick as thieves. If it's a total nightmare we'll look at other alternatives, but I'm not too worried.
Happy 21 weeks today bear and any other due date buddies!! Just think, no matter what, we're absolutely, definitely halfway through now, even if we go to 42 weeks!
Bump is growing by the day here, I'm laying on weight scarily fast and feeling enormous! Also still no closer to finding out what my mystery scan is all about - need to remember to ring my mw on Tuesday and see if she can shed some light. I think it's a bit shitty of them not to bother telling me what it's about - surely they know that's a guaranteed way to panic people?! I'm keeping it at bay but feeling a bit uneasy, even though I know it's 99% likely to be nothing to worry about. Not wildly impressed with the total lack of communication to be honest.

Loving the gorgeous bump pics Dileas and GlenCo 😀

Welcome Tickle! 😁

I have my 20 week scan today at 4.30! Does anyone know if I'll see a midwife after it? I did at my 12 week but wasn't sure for this one.

I'm almost sure I have thrush again and it's driving me mental 😑 It's itchy and burny and feels swollen but no discharge. I had it a couple of weeks ago, got the pessary, then they found he GBS infection so was on a course of amoxicillin for a week which I think flared the thrush right back up. Just wondering should I pop to my surgery to catch my midwife there or maybe someone will see me at the hospital? I hate having this chapped sore vagina!! 😣😣
