Looks like we've nearly filled the last thread, so here is a nice new one for you all!

I've got my 20wk scan tomorrow too. I also have the pre-exam type anxiety!

Fortunately all the rest of my family have now recovered from the various viral illnesses that they had last week. (Hooray for my hand washing and dettol skills, I seem to have avoided catching anything this time!) now that they are all better I can have a bit of a rest!
Work has been busy so coming home after a full day and looking after ailing people has been exhausting!

Sorry to hear about various worries and work issues, everything gets so complicated with pregnancy doesn't it?

My bump is definitely larger than most of those on show here, but I'm blaming that on it being DC3! We are planning on staying yellow tomorrow, have told our two DDs that you can't choose what you are having and you get what you are given so felt this would be easiest for them to understand if they are presented with a fair accompli come August!

Sophia1984 · 15/03/2016 20:53

Thanks all :-) I think it's the fact that with the 12 week scan it was so quick to see that everything was fine, whereas I know this will be 20 minutes of anxiety! I'm a lot better than I thought I would be - can't believe how quickly it's come around! Before I got pregnant I never thought I was going to bother finding out if I was having a boy or girl, but I'm getting sick of referring to it as 'it' so will find out if baby cooperates. I'm not big on 'pink for girls' but there's an absolutely gorgeous pink romper suit with cats on in M&S that I have my eye on.

OwlinaTree · 15/03/2016 22:37

Hi guys, good luck for the scans tomorrow. I'm sure all will be well. I'm at the hospital for my first consultant appointment tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a sneaky scan but I'm guessing it will probably be more talking than action!

Great advice on here basket particularly plimsol's advice re normal range. Hope you are feeling a little less worried now.

Have just been googling how to tell the sex of the baby. Apparently you can boil a red cabbage and the add the cabbage water to your pee and if it goes purple it's a girl, red it's a boy. Never heard that one before! Seems like a lot of effort compared to the ring on a thread test!

Sophia1984 · 16/03/2016 06:39

Has anyone seen their belly move?! I was in the bath last night and pretty sure I could see roughly where baby was, and it kept changing. Freakiest thing ever! (obviously lovely too!)

bexh83 · 16/03/2016 08:12

Sophia my friend said she often lay in the bath and prodded her belly to move the baby - I thought it was the wierdest thing three months ago, now I cant wait to see or feel something significant. Best of luck today, it will be great

Good luck for anyone with scans today!

Christinedonna · 16/03/2016 09:49

Hello ladies. Sorry I went missing for a while, I was reading everything just didn't really have anything to contribute. Had a bit of a scare last night. Went to the toilet at about half 10 and when I wiped there was blood. Not bright red and not a lot but I wiped a few more times and there was blood every time. I rang 111 and they basically said if I'm really concerned I can go to the maternity ward at the hospital. I got the Doppler out and could hear the baby fine so decided to sleep on it, went to the toilet this morning and it appears to actually be in my urine. So when I wipe there's just coloured urine on the tissue but no separate blood. I said last night that I can't be 100% sure if it's me or inside me as I've been really itchy the last few days and sometimes itched to the point of bleeding. So it could have been a little cut on me or something? Anyway I rang the doctors to make an appointment anyway and they're fully booked for today. So do you think I should leave it until tomorrow? Or go to the maternity ward today? Also if I do go to the maternity ward and they scan me, will they take away my anomaly scan in 2 weeks?

LotsofDots · 16/03/2016 09:55

I think if you are concerned you should ring the maternity unit. They won't cancel your anomaly scan if you have an emergency scan. It sounds like you might be right about the source of the bleeding, but if you aren't sure they'd much rather see you and check you out.

Christinedonna · 16/03/2016 10:10

Thank you, rang and was passed around about 5 times but finally was told they need to see me and the best time to come so I won't be waiting too long is 2oclock

Sophia1984 · 16/03/2016 11:43

Scan went brilliantly and we saw a very wriggly, perfectly healthy little...

BOY! Completely unexpected as I felt like it was a girl, but am delighted as long as he is healthy. Midwife was so nice and reassuring even though it was hard to he measurements as he is a very wriggly little boy!

Only slight concern is a low-lying posterior placenta so I need another scan at 32 weeks. Anyone else has this? Midwife did say she thought it would shift on its own.

Been and bought some newborn clothes now- DP was so excited!

Fizzyboo · 16/03/2016 11:55

So no pink kitty romper suit then Sophia?! Congratulations!!!

I did text my MW this morning about the mucous discharge, she said all normal as long as no fluid, smells or itches, so I'm going to try and chill out about it (as best a worrywort like me can!) and look forward to my scan a week today

Fizzyboo · 16/03/2016 11:57

Also fingers crossed christine, I'm sure it's just a UTI or some such, try not to worry X

Mslg · 16/03/2016 12:03

Christine glad you got an appointment for today so your mind can be put at rest. Let us know know you get on Flowers

Sophia congratulations on your little boy! Must be such a relief to officially know that all is well in there Smile I have my 20 week scan on Friday, really looking forward to it now!

After very little sign of a bump for a while suddenly it's there and now I'm wondering am I too big for 19 +4! 😂 The difference between the pic I took at 15 weeks and the one attached is crazy!

PickleBot · 16/03/2016 13:25

I seem to be addicted to crunchy things. For lunch I've eaten mostly crisps, specifically wheat crunches and squares. 4 packets of crisps. Need that crunch!

Congratulations on your scan Sophia, you must be so pleased!
I'm slightly jealous that those who know what they're having get to buy all the cute clothes now! Struggling with unisex options a bit.

mslg do you feel like this is you 'popping'? You look great! Nice neat bump :-) I don't think its too big at all.

Thanks again for reassuring me yesterday everyone. I feel a lot better today. I have stopped googling and started looking at my test results in more rational terms and am feeling much more positive. I do think the baby is fine. Yesterday was just horrible, I started feeling resentful of my bump and detached from little one's movements etc. I don't want to feel like that again.

bearhuggy · 16/03/2016 13:57

congrats sophia !! So pleased all was well and you got a good look at your baby BOY :)

hope all well christine and it's nothing to worry about.

fizzy that's reassuring, def try not to overthink, MW would have 100% told you if it was something to be concerned about. 1 week until you get to see your babe again!

mslg great bump pic! amazing how they suddenly pop out of nowhere isn't it, mine almost appeared overnight.

basket glad you are feeling better today and you are looking at your results in a new and more positive way. Think of it as you get an extra scan where you get to see your little wriggly baby!

I am also buying gender neutral bits, to be honest tho I am really not a blue for boy, pink frills for a girl kind anyway, so I am loving buying mixed neutralish things and then when it arrives I am sure people will bombard with girl and boy gender gifts anyway! Went a bit mad on here yesterday www.milkmoustacheapparel.com/

bearhuggy · 16/03/2016 13:57

oooh and has mumsnet site had a bit of an upgrade with font and layouts?!

Jw35 · 16/03/2016 14:21

Christine I hope everything's ok? I'd absolutely crap myself if I wiped blood at this stage, even if it wasn't anything to worry about. I'd just panic so much! I really hope it's nothing and will be watching anxiously for updates from you x
Fizzy panic over I hope? Doesn't seem like anything to worry about!
Sophia congratulations!! I'm so desperate to find out, I have another whole week to wait and it's killing me! I think I'm having another girl so I'd definitely be shocked if it's a boy! I don't mind either way though!

I don't buy unisex clothes, I find them boring! (Sorry)! Also don't want everyone asking 'is it a boy or a girl'? That would do my head in. I like boys in blues and reds etc and girls in pinks and purples. I shouldn't care but I do! I keep seeing things in shops in the baby section and I'm desperate to buy something (anything)! It might feel more real then!

GlenCo you're so like me! I know 24 weeks means a good chance of survival so can't wait to reach that milestone!

20+4 today, bump obvious, maternity leggings on! Heartburn constantly, needing a wee more frequently and lots of baby movement! Feeling more tired now. Really feel pregnant!

Fizzyboo · 16/03/2016 14:22

Ah thanks bear! Yes I'm sure she would have said if she thought it was worrisome.

I too don't go in for the pink/blue thing, they're colours! They're for everyone! It's weird!
I'm into grey and green at the mo, prob inspired by the studio Ghibli film, my neighbour Totoro, I even bought a giant leaf canopy from ikea the other day as it made me think of Totoro! (Only the very young can see him)

hgleslie89 · 16/03/2016 15:45

Had my 20 week scan today - still firmly team yellow! Baby was not playing ball, got to see lost things ok but have to go back in a couple of weeks to check the vessels of the heart and cleft palate.

Sophia1984 · 16/03/2016 16:12

Thanks everyone :-D

Great news hgleslie898 Mine was playing hide and seek too for ages - he was curled up in a little ball and kept putting his hand wherever the sonographer was trying to look! She had to try for ages and get another sonographer in to see the heart.

Probably not Fizzyboo! though might still get the white one with the little pink hat. We got the turqoisey one, which has little puppies on and treated ourselves to a stripey sleepsuit from Polarn O Pyret. I'm not big on the blue for boys/pink for girls thing and if I had a little girl she would be in whatever, but it still feels like a big step to put a boy in 'girly' colours (which goes completely against my feminist principles to admit!) One of my best friends is Swedish, so she will no doubt deck him out in gender neutral stripes! Talking of Totoro, have you seen this cockatiel singing the song?

JW35 I was surprised by how much of a shock it was but am totally delighted with the idea of a little boy now. The constant needing to wee is driving me bloody mad (though now I've seen how wriggly he is I totally understand it!)

Hope everything went well Christine Sounds like it could just be a small cut or maybe you irritated your cervix somehow?

bearhuggy · 16/03/2016 16:20

I agree fizzy on the colours, I don't wear pink so I would find it odd suddenly buying loads of pink things if I were to have a girl! I know the canopy you mean, they are very fun...going to have a look on Ikea and get some nursery inspiration as so far we have nada!

Glad all went well today leslie and lucky you getting another scan!

Anyone getting a 4D scan? If so, when is the best time?

FourForYouGlenCoco · 16/03/2016 17:40

Hurray Sophia!! Congrats on your boy! I also felt sure I was having a girl - these baby boys like to trick us apparently Grin so glad all was well.
Same to you leslie - glad baby was fine (albeit not behaving itself!)
Dots how did you get on??
Christine hope everything was OK?
mslg that's a lovely neat bump! They do just seem to pop out of nowhere, like the stomach muscles suddenly give up Grin yours looks just right and not too big at all!

Not buying anything new here - we have lots from DD, mostly gender neutral-ish but some not so much. I said all along that if it was a boy, he'd be very a girly-looking one Grin In my experience it makes no difference anyway, when DD was a baby I'd have her in a dress and people still thought she was a boy. I personally don't like jeans, etc on baby boys as think they look really restrictive and uncomfortable, so he'll be in all DD's old leggings!

A letter randomly came through today for another scan. I honestly thought it was a mistake, so rang to check and no, it's been booked in, but no one can tell me why! Afaik everything was fine at the 20w scan and I've not heard anything since, so not quite sure what this mystery scan is all about Hmm am not overly stressed as they'd have had me back a lot sooner if they were worried (it's on 05/04) but am a bit confused! Hmmm.

Fizzyboo · 16/03/2016 17:50

Ahahaha! Sophia! I totally needed that! Got into a funny sort of fug, this afternoon. I know the midwife said all sounds fine but I've gone all bleugh for some reason, so thank you for making me laugh!

Bear they also had a circus canopy I so wanted but don't have the room for

Jw35 · 16/03/2016 19:17

GlenCo that's odd! It's usually just 2 scans on the nhs?
Any news Christine?

Christinedonna · 16/03/2016 19:45

We were there for over 3 hours! Sent to the wrong place, told they were busy when there were 10 nurses stood around in their little office, people making tea. I don't think they realise how worrying something like that is for someone. They didn't scan me. They done a urine sample, found blood, I think she said protein and something else which means I'm producing more white blood cells which means my body is trying to fight something. So they're sending that off and il hear back on Sunday. Done my blood pressure and that was fine and listened to baby and that was fine. She said she could hear that it was moving a lot and as she said it I felt a big kick! They said usually when you bleed they like to do something (can't remember the name) but when they put a plastic thing in you and get a torch to have a look around.. (Way to make me feel like a landmark) but told me that would probably be another few hours wait. As it wasn't fresh blood and I wasn't in pain I decided not to wait, and she just said to go straight back if I get more blood or pain. It's just slightly in discharge now as opposed to on its own and it's getting clearer although is still brown. I had really bad cramps in the side of my stomach two days ago, and then it went to my back and as its old blood she said it's commonly caused by something that happened a day or so before so I don't know if they're linked, and as my body is "trying to fight something" I thought maybe a kidney infection? It was on my right side between my belly button and side, I know your appendix are there but don't know what else?
