The thought of twins terrifies me - there are twins in the family, on my side. I have no idea how I'd cope with two newborns and DS, who will be around 28 months.

I had my scan and booking in appointment through today. They do them together here, so I've already met the midwife and filled in forms, but had no bloods taken or anything. It's not until 20th April, when I'll be 13+1 going by lmp. Does anyone know what time frame they can measure the nuchal fold in? I can remember my midwife saying something about it, but not exactly what she said.

FuzzyOwl · 10/03/2016 20:18

Sch it is 11+2 to 14+1.

ditsygal · 10/03/2016 20:18

I think they say the 12 week scan needs to be between 11+1 and 13+6

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 10/03/2016 20:25

Thanks. I'm a bit worried that if I'm a bit further on than I think (last AF was way shorter and lighter than usual, sorry if TMI) then I might miss the window. I'll call tomorrow and see if I can rearrange it, which I was going to do anyway, as I'd like DH to be there if possible - I don't think I'd want to go for the scan on my own in case we get bad news.

IrisPurple1 · 10/03/2016 20:26

Oh we would love twins! Particularly as we're getting close to the stage where pregnancy becomes more risky and as an only child myself I'd love for ours to grow up with siblings. My husband's dad is a twin, but I think the family trait is down the maternal line.

goldenpineapple I'm glad your scan was good news.

BigPigLittlePig did you locate the smell in your kitchen? I normally walk to work but had a lift this morning in husband's car which smelled. Stuck in traffic and could smell other car fumes coming in through the vents. Yuk.

Ate chilli burger for tea with coleslaw, fries and corn on the cob. Could taste the fries and the corn, that was it.

Can anyone tell us when the lack of taste / lack of appetite and horrendous bloating goes away? LOL

pod100 · 10/03/2016 20:38

I'm now 7+2 and the bloating has got crazy! It's only been happening towards the end of the day since Monday, but last night the difference in my stomach between 4pm-7pm was huge! It actually looked like a beach ball Shock

Jubaloo442 · 10/03/2016 20:51

Yes to the bloating! And also burping. Sorry....
Lots of nice scan news :)

Figgygal · 10/03/2016 20:53

Gah scan letter arrived today Saturday 26th we fly to Scotland 24th to 28th going to have to phone them tomorrow and rearrange.

Funnily enough I'm barely bloated at all today and weighed myself only put in 2lbs so far. Must avoid the 3+ stone gain I had last time

LisaTheGreek · 10/03/2016 20:54

Oh god, yeeessssss.

(TMI warning) Some trapped gas has now resolved itself. Feel soooo much better.

Right, where are we? How is everyone tonight?

evs34 · 10/03/2016 20:59

I'm with all you windy ladies! Soooo bloated. Friday tomorrow thank goodness. The lack of taste affecting me too and my husband smells funny!! Xx

BigPigLittlePig · 10/03/2016 21:07

I seem to have the opposite problem - everything tastes, revolting, and everything smells. And no, kitchen smell not located Iris. It may be the dogs dry food but am wary of getting too close to find out. At the moment i just sort of merrily gag my way through the kitchen.

I am dreading this weekend. 9pm is pretty much as late as I can cope with, and evem now, am pukey and headachey amd knackered. I'm working 9am - 10.30pm for the next 3 days, and will be lucky to get a proper break. I'm going to keel over aren't I Sad or com and get sent home as an infection risk

MyBreadIsEggy · 10/03/2016 21:09

I'm suffering with gas too Blush I'm farting like a foghorn, and it's also way worse at night!!
I my scan letter too! 18th April Grin

goldenpineapple · 10/03/2016 21:18

Ha, yes to the wind! And everything smelling strongly. DH is a landscape gardener and oh god, the smell of him when he gets home from work. The smell of his van. Bleeeeauuuurrghhh.

Hooray for people getting their scan date!

Errrrr.... so I've got a really weird one and possibly tmi...but...- I've just discovered a bald patch in my pubic hair..... is there no end to strange pregnancy symptoms?!

Figgygal · 10/03/2016 21:45

£15 for scan photos was £5 back in 2011 that's some price hike

FuzzyOwl · 10/03/2016 21:46

£15! 😱 It was £5 for one last year.

pod100 · 10/03/2016 22:12

What questions have you all been asking at your booking in appointments? I have a couple in mind but as this is my first there are bound to be things I've not thought of before

FuzzyOwl · 10/03/2016 22:38

pod it is usually health questions (including on the father's side of the family), other general information (smoker, drug taker, medical conditions, home owner, occupation), blood pressure, blood test (depending on how far into the pregnancy you are), urine test and a general chat.

FuzzyOwl · 10/03/2016 22:39

Sorry pod, I thought you asked what you will be asked! Blush No questions really as everything you go through in the booklet is quite comprehensive about your health and previous pregnancies and you have later appointments to discuss birthing plan.

Bluecarrot · 10/03/2016 22:58

My booking in appointment was

  • name
-address
  • phone number
  • how many babies
  • which hospital do you want to give birth in?
Then they tried to give me 6 booklets ( politely declined them all) In and out in 10 mins.

blood tests etc all done at the 12 week appointment around here. ( NI)

Gigglebert · 11/03/2016 05:12

Morning all, just checking in :)

re: decaf coffee, I have a student just now doing his advanced higher chemistry project on decaffination. Although the chemicals used (for some of the methods) aren't things you would ever want to drink they are no longer present in the final product (and are highly volatile so if there was any left it would instantly evaporate when you added the hot water). In terms of 'adding stuff in to counter the caffeine', they do sometimes add in further flavourings once the caffeine is removed as caffeine is part of the reason for coffees bitter taste. There are methods that use high pressure CO2 instead of organic solvents to remove the caffeine and if you are worried you could seek out products decaffeinated in that way :)

Gigglebert · 11/03/2016 05:18

whoops, meant to add, if you are in Edinburgh, artisan roast decaffeinate their coffee using the Swiss water method (or CO2), and apparently Starbucks use it but only for their Sumatran decaf!

I have a private scan booked for tomorrow afternoon, want some reassurance that everything is ok in there before we tell family over Easter :)

All the chat about dopplers has reminded me I loaned ours to my SIL, can't really ask for it back until she knows we are pregnant which is gutting as I first picked up the heartbeat of #1 at ten weeks so could have used that for my reassurance and saved myself £50!

TheCake · 11/03/2016 05:56

Good morning all,

Gigglebert all of your talk of coffee has made me kick my other half out of bed to make my morning cuppa (fully caffeinated). I'm just on one a day and it is heaven :))

I've also got a private scan with a NIPTY test booked tomorrow. I will be 11+2 or 3 by then so I'm hoping they can do the nuchal translucency test then too. Feeling a bit nervous about it....

Hope everyone has a lovely Friday!

Alwaysinahurrynow · 11/03/2016 06:16

Thanks for the heads up on Edinburgh coffee gigglebert. Artisan Roast coffee is yummy. Feel I may need a fully caffeinated job today though as waking at 4am and having another shocking cold.

DisneyDiva87 · 11/03/2016 09:07

I forgot to update the list yesterday, who still needs added?

MyBreadIsEggy · 11/03/2016 09:15

The hormones have hit me this morning....I've just had a little cry in the kitchen because I burnt my crumpets and I was really looking forward to them Sad
